Bradaís Pledge #1

Touch of Faete

Rate this book
Curiosity kills little seers who get too close to bradaís, the eternal foe of the fae.

All Ryanne Kelly dreams of is a normal dating life, which is impossible when her fae gift of foresight tells her exactly how badly each romance will end. Just when Ryanne decides to give up on dating, she meets a mysterious stranger who doesn’t activate her seer gifts.

Titus Doyle has adjusted to modern living despite the fact that he is an immortal bradaí who yearns for the good ole times. He and his band of mercenaries use the internet to find new clients to quench his thirst for gold. His lust to kill fae, however, is much harder to satisfy. When Titus meets Ryanne, he recognizes her as a seer and knows what she is worth.

As their two lives collide, the primeval battle between fae and bradaís reignites. Ryanne’s human side sees more in Titus than the killing machine the fae claim him to be. Meanwhile, Titus must fight his primal urges as his feelings for Ryanne grow.

When an ancient queen of the fae gives Ryanne a special mission, Ryanne’s success holds the fate of all fae, and maybe bradaís too, in her hands. If she fails, not only will she lose her touch of fae, but the land she loves will be obliterated, and so will the fae.

I'm Ligia de Wit, author of the Bradaís Pledge series—a fantasy romance adventure with a unique twist on pirates and a touch of twisted Peter Pan vibes.

Writing in two languages has been both a challenge and a rewarding journey, but I wouldn’t have it any other way.

If you love characters who are strong in more than just a physical sense—who face their fears, embrace their vulnerabilities, and carve out their place in the world—then you're in the right place. That’s my vibe: crafting powerful women who fight for themselves in the heart of fantasy.

Beyond writing, I love getting lost in a good book, watching movies, indulging in delicious meals, exploring new cities, hiking through forests, and—when the mood strikes—acting like a total goof at theme parks. I’m a kid at heart, and I own it!

Come join me in my world of adventure, romance, and just the right amount of magic.

This urban romantasy adventure about a fae with a seer gift and a pirate with dark powers and immortality is as creative as it is witty , with a rich blend of dark elements and enticing chemistry. 🩵 Containing tropes of slowburn, forced proximity and enemies to lovers, this got me “grinning from pointy ear to pointy ear” should be put on your reading list, you will not be disappointed!
Titus’s sky-blue eyes sparkled, and a deep emotion flickered on his face. Not Titus the murderer pirate but a Titus who loved this creation, who loved life in all its glory, who felt joy in looking at life around as I was feeling it.

[ Contains some spoilers ]

PLOT SUMMARY
There are three dimensions: Tír na Daonna, the land of humans; Tír D’aois, the land of fae; and Tír na Vraoichta, the land of darkness.

22-year-old nurse Ryanne Kelly is a human touched by fae when she was younger, meaning she has the gift of foresight. This has unfortunately resulted in her being unable to get past the first date with someone, because she can see who they end up with in the future. She has a few rules when it comes to dating: never date a coworker/boss, ignore her tiny yet bothersome pixie friend Bricius (who others cannot see), avoid hand contact (as this triggers visions)…

But with the encounter of Titus Doyle, a mysterious mercenary who doesn’t trigger her seer abilities, a new rule is added: no weird pirates. But the oddities do not end there: he has lived hundreds of years, cannot be killed and wields dark powers. For he is a bradaí, created by the evil creature Anord from Tír na Vraoichta, who controls him with an incessant thirst for blood (specifically fae’s) and gold. And Titus knows people will pay a pretty price if he sells Ryanne.

Marking Ryanne as prey so he knows her whereabouts, he tries to kidnap her but is captured by the faes and taken to Tír D’aois. The fae and the bradaí have long been enemies but the Lady Cuidigtheach “Cuidi”, queen and most powerful of fae, believes that Ryanne is the key to ending this rift. There is supposedly a “spark of creation” dormant in bradaí, the same spark all creation has.

Ryanne must find a way to awaken this within Titus. But that’s easier said than done when it comes to a pirate who does not literally have a heart. Though with Ryanne’s mark, there comes a connection between them that shifts everything they know. Should Ryanne be unsuccessful, she will lose everything.
Dating Rule Number Nine: It’s okay to break the previous eight rules once in a while.
This is told from the first-person past-tense POV of Ryanne and Titus.

OVERALL OPINIONS
I wish I had encountered Ligia de Wit’s work far sooner than I have, because this is some of the most creative pirate stories I have read (though, I confess, there are not enough stories in this genre)! de Wit has a remarkable way of telling a great story through a contemporary style. Like Titus’ ship with its old-fashioned façade but up-to-date tech, electricity and plumbing within, this story looks like something traditional, but it has amazing modern touches and it is a really cool concept! You could even say it was “Grand”, as Titus often says.

The first sentences hooked me right in: “First dates were my speciality. To be more precise, *ending* first dates was my speciality”. It’s a unique and intriguing opening. And then, of course, you know the Titus fellow will be the man she bumps into, simply based on the description.
A tall, dark-haired man bumped into me. He was freakishly tall, more than six foot two, for sure.
“Watch where you’re going.” He threatened in a husky tone, sparkling blue eyes hardening. A black leather jacket fit his well-defined physique, and a scrubby beard hugged a firm jaw.
The enemies-to-lovers quickly established. Perfect!

I absolutely adore the tension and chemistry between Titus and Ryanne! I will now be using the phrase “Butterflies yelled Huzzah!” because of this book haha!! They have such perfect banter where they tease each other, and the scene where she throws anything and everything at him! And then there are things like when Ryanne gets Titus to become more polite, they play chess, he repays her kindness, taking her on a proper date, buying her a lovely dress. Oh and the way he does the charming smile all women can’t resist – and Ryanne just walked past! I bet Titus had that shocked Pikachu meme expression. They are similar, both live in two worlds. But I like that we do get this constant reminder that he is a pirate and he can double-cross. Gosh like look at this tension ahh:
“I like your eyes.” His hand slid up my cheek. The contact was surprisingly soft, tender, matching his gaze, totally in discordance with his previous attitude... “I’ve wanted to do this since the first time you fed me.” His hand slid over my hair, running his fingers through the strands. “Soft as I imagined.”

This reminded me a little bit of Bardugo’s Shadow and Bone as we have a girl with unique and desired magical powers and a romance with a dangerous man who wields dark powers, as well as mild spice – but that’s where the similarities end. The vibes were ever so slightly like the anime Sugar Apple Fairy Tale and Fena Pirate Princess as well, I say that because of tiny fairy companions and pirates respectively.

This story harkens greatly to Celtic mythology, especially with the use of creatures and names.
To list some examples:
• Faes are prominent in Celtic folklore and mythology. Pooka is a mischevious shape-shifting creature in Irish folklore too.
• The use of otherworldly realms are common themes in Celtic myths.
• The name for the realm of darkness, Tír na Vraoichta, directly references Tír na nÓg which is the Celtic Otherworld. This is also known as the “Land of Youth”, and those who inhabit it possess eternal youth or immortality – which is exactly what the bradaís are!
• Bradaí is the Irish word for “pilferer” or “thief”, clearly a deliberate choice. Titus’ surname itself Doyle is an Irish surname and his family is Irish.
• The wise queen of the fae Cuiditheach (who reminds me a lot of the Lady Galadriel from Lord of the Rings) means “helpful” or “assisting”, which works as she gives Ryanne advice plus also assists the realm itself from evil through her magic shielding the land.
• Gallchobhair means “foreign help” or “lover of foreigners”, which is either ironic or fitting as he is a mentor helping Ryanne, a foreigner to the fae world, yet despises the bradaís who are also foreign.
• Fé Erie could be a combination of things. In Irish, Fé means fae and the Erie could have connotations with Éire as in Ireland, as in brave – this would excellently tie in the fact she has a deep connection to the roots of the place. It could also be a play on the French word Féerie, which means “fairy play” or “magical spectacle” which works rather well as she manifests herself and also disappears, but also conducts their meeting – destiny at play. It could of course just be a pun on the word fairy.
• The name of Titus’ ship Scáil Dragún means “Shadow Dragon” or “Phantom Dragon”, which is like Titus’ place of origin, the realm of darkness, and his dark magic, and it is made of Dragonwood.

Overall, just about every name used is made of Irish or Gaelic words or drawn from Celtic mythology, with a few European folklore making an appearance (like dryads and nymphs from Greek mythology). But this story is undoubtedly Ligia de Wit’s own creation – and an incredibly inventive one of that. I could talk about this all day. I loved everything about this!

The magic trait is interesting too, having a literal beast within that has a mind of its own that always wants to kill or plunder gold.

<< Positives >>
🠚 Pretty cover!
🠚 Quick and easy read
🠚 Intriguing characters, all with a purpose.
🠚 The chemistry between Titus and Ryanne
🠚 Amazing plot twists!
🠚 Extremely interesting concepts that diverge from stereotypical ideas
🠚 Integration of Celtic mythology and folklore while also being its own unique thing.
🠚 The different pictures for each part (fae castle for part 1, ship for part 2)
🠚 While some books might not explain character motivation or world-building choices, de Wit ensures that such things are addressed. For example, Ryanne asks “Why didn’t you train me to prepare for this?” which is actually a good question and the fae queen emphasises the importance of free will otherwise they’re not any better than Anord and his puppeteer-like hold he has on everyone. That makes so much sense!
🠚 I really like the character of Fé Erie. She is so mysterious and a pivotal, mythical-like figure who orchestrates the central relationship and the overarching plot, seeing the potential in both Ryanne and Titus.
🠚 Realistic aspects such as the prejudice and racial hate between bradaís and fae.

<< Negatives >>
🠚 We jump straight into some of the world-building aspects. For example, Titus sensing préachta for the first time in ages – this is just quickly inserted here, what is préachta?
🠚 Chapter 16 felt a bit too info dump. I would have spaced it out a little more.
🠚 Ryanne’s family are barely talked about. The first time I heard she had a sister was Chapter 14. I feel this could have been established earlier. I think a good part to have included this would have been around the time Samantha mentions “I promised my sister I’d babysit” – Ryanne could have been like “Sister promises are important” and reflected on her own relationship with her sister (whatever that may be, depending on how close she is this could have been an ironic statement that she doesn’t agree with)
🠚 How/when did Titus find Bricius?
🠚 It would have been nice if there had been more of Ryanne’s visions, as she is she seer, but I’m sure there’ll be plenty in the next books!
🠚 I love Mouse and Ryanne’s friendship, it would have been lovely to have had more interactions between them, where they just talk to each other rather than part of a group with Titus or the sailors. Again, I’m sure this will be covered in the next book.
🠚 There are more POV chapters from Ryanne than Titus. I would have loved a few more chapters from him.
🠚 Minor but I would have liked to have known what the other 5 dating rules were, for fun.
🠚 I love the reveal that Ashtore means treasure, but I would have omitted its meaning from Chapter 35 and had the reveal at the end.

CHARACTERS
-ˋˏ ꒰ Ryanne꒱ ˎˊ-
↳ When Ryanne said “There was no man out there for me, but warm coffee would do. Coffee filled in the blanks and never let me down.”, I couldn’t agree more!
At least she is self-aware: when things are her fault, she acknowledges it.
Time to act. I wasn’t going to play coy anymore. Gloves off from now on. I’d gain his trust that way and he’d open up. Kindness always found its way back.

-ˋˏ ꒰ Titus꒱ ˎˊ-
↳ Tall, dark handsome, a “three-century-old pirate adapting to the Internet” haha. He likes classic elegance, like me. He doesn’t read romance books, that’s the only way.
The way he makes sure none of his crew glare at her! The “that’s my girl”? Giggling and kicking my feet. I do like him! A darkling-like figure who turns good? Sign me uppp!!
Titus’s eyes shone, matching his predator smile. “You can’t escape from me, no matter how hard you try, little seer.”

FAV QUOTES
• Humans could be so easily deceived, seeing only what they thought was true. What they wanted to see.
• A flicker of a smile broke his grave countenance, as brief as lightning in a ragged sea storm.
• “if the fantastic world you live in helps you cope with this depressing place … whatever works.”
“You have such beautiful eyes,” Titus said. “They remind me of high seas when the ocean turns deep green.”
Curiosity killed stupid seers if they attempted to go near evil bradaís.
• I could still feel it. Her purity, touching me briefly. Soft hands on my broken skin, the crease of a furrowed brow as she wiped my face, or her smile when she gave me food.
Her touch had awakened something in me. Something that had nothing to do with my beast. It was … different. Similar to when I was at sea.
• I was alone, at the mercy of a bradaí. He could now say, “please” and “thank you,” but that might be, “*Please*, I’m handing you over to these unknown guys as a guinea pig for them to do whatever they want. *Thank you* for your understanding.”
• Of course he’d have me in dresses, this twenty-first-century pirate lost in the past.
• The chill breeze gave me goosebumps. I embraced myself, caressing my arms. I took two safety steps away from the railing and closer to the mainmast. Titus followed me, shook his jacket off and put it on my shoulders. I blinked at him, but his gaze kept steady on the ocean. I closed the coat tightly around me; it smelled musky. He must smell musky, too. My cheeks burned.
“Do you trust me?” His expression changed and, for a second, for a brief moment, he looked eager, like a teenager looking for praise but not wanting to show it. I offered him my hand. Crazy, I knew, but he wouldn’t let me slip. Maybe I was being stupid. Maybe my brain had developed some anomaly. But I smiled.
• Despite the fact I wasn’t bedding her—yet—I needed her by my side, even though I didn’t know exactly why. Like asking a bradaí why they wanted to be at sea. It was a need beyond comprehension.
Stupid pirate. Five-star mercenary? Five-star moron! Worse, he almost convinced me he’d cared for me.
I sucked in a breath. She had kept the beast away. It had been her. She had inhibited the beast. Her energy. Our energies.
• *Blood. Kill them.* Aye. I’d indulge the beast to protect Ryanne.
• “What’s the rush?” he said, eyes twinkling and arms spread apart. “Let me show you my world.

3.5 / 5 Stars

Ryanne Kelly has been given a touch a Fae Magic. Little did she know that her sly use of the magic to get a date would turn into being marked by a pirate, and that her life would change forever.

This is an urban fantasy/fairy tale with hints of romance, and swashbuckling adventure, but with a twist. I’m not one who enjoys romance, but I like fantasy stories with romance in them, and I love pirates. The pirate is not your typical pirate the likes of Jack Sparrow and Captain Hook. No, he is an altogether different creature, but I won’t spoil it for you.

I really liked that this book only had two main POV characters. Flipping back between Ryanne and Titus made the story easy to engage with, and the characters easy to dive into. I also like that we don’t get all the answers about them right away, or even by the end of the book. The ending is satisfying, and yet definitely leaves you looking for the next installment. Ryanne’s companion, Bricius, brings some extra comedy relief to the story and serves well as Ryanne’s connection to the Fae Realm.

There’s a strong emphasis on the theme of not being so quick to assume you know everything about a person.

There’s also a definite crisis of choice as Ryanne realizes she may have to choose between two worlds.

There were definitely some moments where the romance was a bit much, but that’s just my personal preference being a non-romance reader, so that isn’t swaying my rating. I do feel that the times Ryanne did training with her budding magic skill could be a bit more fleshed out, and happen more often, but maybe this will happen in future books.

This was a fun book, full of romance, adventure, and layered with Fae magic. The plot is simple and straightforward, but that’s not a bad thing. English is not the authors native language, but her command of English is excellent.

For a debut novel I’d say this is a win.

Thank you to Netgalley for the ARC.

The beginning of this book was really hard to get into. It seemed all over the place. About halfway through the book I started enjoying it. It had fun world-building, tons of adventure, and development between the characters. I'm looking forward to the next book

Touch of faete
Wow what an amazing deep adventure.
In this book we follow a girl called Ryanne. She look like an ordinary girl to anyone there but in truth she isn't ordinary at all. She can see other creatures and have visions if she touches people sometimes. She also have an annoying little sidekick called Bricius, now Bricius isn't a human, and no one can see him or hear him apart from Ryanne as he is a pixie.
We also follow Titus, Titus had a dark beast inside him, telling him to kill, craving for murder. Titus is also not fully human either, he is a pirate, from a different realm., he misses the old days back on the sea where he could actually be himself, he hates this human modern world where technology and guns have taken over, he longs for his ship and his sword, but he has to please the beast inside him before it takes over fully. He is an important creature with no soul.
Titus bumps into Ryanne and soon finds out she isn't fully human and she is touched by fae, he could fetch a fair price for her so tried to kidnap her, but things don't go according to plan as he soon finds himself in custody of the fae world. Ryanne has to now choose her destiny and path, to help the fae and discover the pirates weakness or go back to a full human life and never see the fae world again.
This book was amazing, I love the description of everything, so you can see and truly appreciate the world around. I love how tense things were, it was a very good flowing read. I wanted to know more, it kept me reading and wondering. The betrayal, romance, adventure and magic within made this a beautiful read

Thank You BookSirens for my ARC ebook.

This was a fun book to read, and the pacing felt good. I did enjoy the story, and I'll be looking forward to the second book.
This is a contemporary fantasy with fae, a seer, and immortal pirate.
I liked Ryanne's character. She just wants to find love, but being touched by fae, how will anyone understand her life and pixie guardian. Then enters Titus, he is an immortal old-fashioned pirate with a darkness in him that feeds his mind. She is sunshine, and he is a grump. Titus is the first person she can talk to about her life. But can he be trusted? And why does he deserve redemption. But after the epilogue, I think I understand why him. It was a good little cliffhanger to lead to a second book. I am definitely intrigued and wanting more.

Thank you, NetGalley for the ARC & opportunity to read & review!

Although this is an “Adult” Fantasy Romance- imo it had more of a YA vibe. The FMC- just had a naivety & personality that felt more like a teen/early adulthood outlook. This is a high/low fantasy in the real world, and Faery realm. It was a little bit of a Peter Pan & Pirates twist but with Fae.

I thought the plot was interesting, and tropes that I noticed were:
-Forced Proximity
-Captor/Captive
-Tend to wounds
-Enemy to potentially lovers
-Morally Gray MMC redemption
-Grumpy Sunshine

I think anyone who like fairytales & contemporary romance chick-lit would find this fun. The FMC is big on “rules” in the dating game, and I found the main romantic interest to teeter on a balance between someone I could root for & someone I loathe. The romantic interest was a bit too unrequited and questionable- but perhaps this will be explored further in the series?

I wish the author included a glossary of terms, bc it contained a lot of (what appeared to be) Gaelic/Irish terms in classic Tuatha De Danaan terminology- but in a very RomCom & American Setting. This felt conflicting to me- and I would have liked to have more information with terminology etc.

All in all, this was an easy read.

I received a copy of eARC for my honest opinion.

To be Fae touched is it a good thing or bad thing? What if in order to continue to be Fae touched you were asked to complete a special mission, one that you might live to see tomorrow or maybe you might be able to complete the mission and save the Fae & Bradais too.

I really enjoyed this book a lot. I love that we get to see the Fae world a little differently but at the same time you still get to see all the wonderful parts that I have come to love when reading any Fae book. You will get to see Fae, pirates, pixies and so many more characters in this book. You will not be confused or bored while reading it as well. Always something else going on or Ryanne trying new ways to get the information that she needs. I thought the plot was different but with the same Fae vibes that almost everyone loves. The writing style was great, and it flowed well. I loved the details that helped to bring the Fae and bradais to life for me and I loved learning about the difference between those two. I enjoyed having the dual POV from Ryanne and Titus.

It really helped me to connect and understand the characters more. I love how Ryanne is strong, determined but at the same time knows what is right and what is wrong. She is caring but not a pushover at all. I loved her sidekick so much; he is so funny and you will find yourself laughing at some of the things he does. He is a pixie and he kinda acts like her big brother, he trains her, guides her throughout life, and even when she was in school, he would correct the teacher when he would say something wrong that happened in history. Titus is an interesting character; I loved his broody, bloodlust, gold loving, stuck in the old times personality. He is a complex character and I think we only got to see a glimpse of all of him. I loved the banter between those characters and the slow burn but can see/feel the chemistry between those too. I cannot wait to learn more about both of those characters in future books, also I really, really, really hope that we get the next book soonish lol.

If you like forced proximity/enemies to “hopefully” lovers/one bed, Fae worlds, action, romance then you should pick up this book.

I want to thank NetGalley and Cursed Dragon Ship Publishing for the opportunity to review this book.

Received as an ARC from NetGalley and the publisher, this review is of my own thoughts and opinions.

This has been an amazing book! I called in to work just to read it 😌 i love the characters and the whole plot is excellent, I am truly looking forward to reading the next book!

The writing style is actually one of few that I don’t find myself skipping through descriptions or skimming through paragraphs. There is a lot of world building however it does seem necessary and definitely helps to paint a picture!

I would definitely recommend this book to anyone! Adventure, romance, fae, it has everything you need!

"The drug addict needed drugs. I needed to kill to appease my beast. The war had been lost the day I bequeathed my will to the gloom. Nevertheless, this was who I was. Not matter my pathetic struggles, the beast would always fine a way to control me. Always."

Wow oh wow. I am very happy to have the opportunity to ARC read this book. Touch of Faete (clever play on words btw) is a very quirky, unique story that will have you laughing from the first line. This book is "The Cruel Prince", meets "The Bridge Kingdom," but add a little pirate fantasy with a touch of "Beaty and the Beast." To top is all off, Ryanne is such a great FMC.

Summary:
Ryanne has a gift, the touch of fae, that connects her to the faerie realm. Unfortunately (or fortunately), she meets a vicious pirate (Bradais) who has been created to kill fae. Titus is controlled by his darker magic, he calls it the beast, and suppresses all goodness (emotions, thoughts, fae magic). Ryanne and Titus meet, igniting the spark of goodness in Titus. Ryanne is pushed by her Faerie mentors to fulfil her purpose, which is to build a bridge between the Bradais and the fae where her emotions will also be tested and she will learn that her touch of fae is much more than she thought.

Review:
Ya'll this book had me feeling all kinds of things. It comes out in a few days so please add it to your TBR's, you won't regret it. Ryanne is the cutest character. I love her stubborn spirit, and her banter with the other characters had me uncontrollably laughing. However, Titus was an interesting character. I loved him for the first half of the book, instant new book crush. Titus' beast is a large aspect of his character, and the readers get to see his inner dialogue as he tries everything to keep the beast ruling his body. Around the second half of the book, his dialogue changed to reflect his internal struggles and lack of emotional intelligence. Ryanne causes Titus to question things and good magic begins to push through the beast. Though, I understand this is purposeful, it gave me the ick. He often said things like "be my lover," or "let me bed you," and repeatedly called her "woman." This probably was my only complaint throughout the book, and the only reason why it is not a five star read for me. I do think the author did this purposefully so us readers can truly appreciate Titus and fully understand that he is more beast. I do love that and appreciate this style of writing. However, the Titus I loved at the start of the book had come back by the end. I cannot wait to see his development in the next book. I hope Ryanne stays the same cause she is just perfect.

Overall, I loved this book. I couldn't put it down. I cannot wait for the next one!

It’s been awhile sense I felt like I was thrown into the deep end of an amazing adventure. What a delight! I couldn’t put the book down whenever I got the opportunity. The author certainly knows how to capture her audience, and I can’t wait for the second installment!

I read the ARC of this book which I received for free from booksirens and this is my honest review. I was going to read a couple of chapters as a preview before deciding if I wanted to download this as my next ebook then on the second page of chapter 1 I read the question and answer below.
What kind of books do you like?
Oh I love dragons!

Me two and no more information needed I am reading this book next lol

Overall I enjoyed reading this book it has an interesting plot and a lot of world building. It is full of magical places, creatures and interesting characters. I liked the way the book was written from both Titus and Ryanne’s pov it really helped you to understand both of the main characters more and meant that you could see the inner struggles of Titus and his evolving feeling as the book went on. I enjoyed the way the relationship between both the main characters progressed. I did find myself at times especially earlier on thinking to myself I thought Ryanne was 22 but the way she was written and some of her dialogue felt like she was a lot younger which I was finding a little frustrating but then it was mentioned about halfway in that the fae touched can be slower to mature and then I found it less frustrating because it made more sense to the story line lol. I also really liked Bricius’s character he was a very fun edition to the book I think everyone should have a bug in their life lol

I am thankful to have received this book as an ARC.

The storyline of this book appealed to me, and I found it a cute book.

It took me till about 40% in to start truly enjoying this book, but that was just due to lack of understanding. As a fantasy novel, it has made up elements that I found were not explained quickly or thoroughly enough for me. Once I got things figured out, this book was a nice light read that I enjoyed. My teenage self would have loved it.

Yeah… no. DNF at 13%. It was apparent very quickly that I would not enjoy this book. I’m a stickler for good writing and authentic characters, and based on what I read at the beginning it was clear that this book was lacking in both categories. The female main character seemed pretty immature for what is supposed to be an adult/new adult fantasy, and her pixie sidekick felt like a caricature. The male main character felt too stereotypically villainous, from his actions down to his appearance, in a way that, in my opinion, showcased the room for growth in the author’s writing and not in the potential for the character’s, well, character growth. Overall, I think this book had some good ideas going but it needed a lot more work before being released, even as an ARC.

Thank you to the publisher and to NetGalley for this ARC ❤️

I am enjoying this series thus far. I am a big fan of any kind of fae magic books and pirates, although the pirate in this book is not your typical pirate.

We have Ryanne who is a young 22 year old woman who is working in a nursing home leading a quiet life. She is a seer with a touch of fae. Her visions complicate any dating she finds herself in and then Bricius, her pixie, gets in the way of any situation she finds herself in which can be good or bad depending on the situation.

Titus is our pirate who isn't a pirate per se but an immortal bradai. What is a bradai you might ask? Well, Ryanne spends most of Book 1 trying to figure that out herself. Mostly bradai are enemies of the fae. Their mission is to kill all fae but Titus is continually trying to fight his "beast" as he refers to the voice in his head always telling him 'to kill' and to 'get the gold'.

The fae task Ryanne with figuring out if Titus can be 'cured' of his will to kill all fae. She is looking a for spark within him, some kind of link between he and his 'beast' that could potentially be severed.

I like how Titus keeps his word and is always trying to push the voice in his head away. Almost like Titus is always conversing with himself or mocking his inner 'voice/beast'.

I love alternating POV especially within the same scene. Always love to hear what is going through the other person's mind in a scenario.

Love when Titus is imprisoned in the fae realm Ryanne is always feeling sorry for Titus being bound constantly but there is good reason for that. Then we hear Titus's POV and he starts falling for Ryanne when she takes compassion on him and starts caring for him and making sure he gets food and water. All the other fae are too leery of him to get too close to him for good reason.

I love the place in this book where Titus figure out why he needs her near him and why he shouldn't ever be parted from her. Just really, great action packed novel and I love the banter between the main characters. Looking forward to reading Book 2.

I received an advance review copy for free and am leaving this review voluntarily.

Thank you so much to the author and publisher for giving me the opportunity to read this as an ARC.

This book took me for a ride in the best way possible. We open with our FMC Ryanne who is human but has been touched by fae, meaning she has the ability to foresee how events turn out (a seer if you will). We also meet Titus, our MMC who isn't human but also isn't fae. Their meeting sets forth the adventure they set out on and we learn more about each of the characters, their backgrounds, and their abilities as we travel with them.

My initial opinion was that Ryanne was a bit naive in her interactions with Titus but it was kind of a refreshing take. It was a nice way to follow a character as she's trying to navigate a world she has been kept in the dark by and trying to navigate who is telling the truth and who is clouded by bias. Ryanne is an easy character to root for - she's compassionate, kind, and willing to give the benefit of the doubt while also maintaining her reservations and doubts about people/situations.

Titus took a bit of getting used to for me because some of his interactions with Ryanne sounded so old-fashioned but it makes more sense once we get more insight into his background and how he became who he is.

I found myself smiling as I was reading the book. The world-building was so interesting and ethereal, the characters are ones you want to root for, they have their flaws and their redeeming traits. I thought some of the expressions were a bit unique (Bricius is so funny) and finding out that English is not the author's native language was surprising to me because of the way the story flowed.

It did take me a few chapters to get into the characters and the story but once I did, I was thoroughly enjoying the adventure. The story has an open ending which sets the stage for the next book but a major plot point is resolved in this book.

I had a hard time rating this one for some reason. I really enjoy fantasy, so I think I'm inclined to enjoy elements of pretty much every book in this genre. I went with a middle-of-the-road rating because I think this book had a lot of give and take in pros and cons, but if half stars were available, I think I would give this 2.5.

First, let's start off with what I liked—I thought the premise of the book was very intriguing once you got to it. It does take a bit of the book to get there, but I enjoyed the charge of the FMC and what she was created to do. I also enjoyed Titus' character development throughout the book. He and Bug were easily my favorite characters in the story.

What I struggled with most in the book was the world-building aspect. I felt like it was rushed and had SO much language that wasn't explained—I kept feeling like I must have missed something. Additionally, it took the story a while to pick up. I felt like it was hard to get into at first, which is interesting because a lot does happen at the beginning of the book, but somehow it just was missing something that kept me excited. Lastly, the immaturity of the FMC was annoying to me for much of the book. At one point, the MMC does explain her immaturity due to the way she is treated by the fae, so honestly, it ended up making sense. I had just spent much of the book being annoyed by it.

The intriguing thing about this review is that despite the lower rating, I still find myself wanting to read the next book. I feel like there is more potential there because I'll already understand the world (which took me a while in this book). Additionally, I believe the second book will be more about Titus' world and background, which I think I'd enjoy after how much I liked him.

Ultimately, if you are a fantasy fan, I'd encourage you to give this a shot and would be intrigued to know if others' thoughts align with mine.

I was lucky enough to receive both Touch of Faete & Burden of Faete as an ARC. I am so thankful for the opportunity to read these in an ARC. I do believe this one is already out, but I know Burden has not come out yet & I truly cannot wait to dive into it today, since I finished Touch last night.

I really enjoyed this book. I always enjoy fantasy, but I haven't read a book with "pirates" in a long time. I always love when fantasy novels use other languages in their writing. This novel uses Gaelic words for names of energies and other names. Dorcha for the dark energy in the Bradaí (which is also a Gaelic word for thief) & they used to all blend in as pirates. Out MMC Titus still works as a mercenary or pirate.
He uses another word for the other energy that emerges in him from time to time, but to prevent spoilers, I won't talk about that one.
Our FMC Ryanne goes through a lot in this book. She doesn't fit into the human world or the Fae world because she is a human touched by Fae power. She struggles with humans thinking she is crazy & Fae looking at her like she is a little child. She faces her fears to try to help others. She is loyal to those she considers friends, but it seems some are very deceptive with her (the Fae "friends"). She doesn't have anyone she can relate to, because the Fae only touch one human with their gift at a time. Ryanne is honestly just lonely for companionship, but rarely finds anyone she feels she on on the same level as. Her "little Bug" is her closest friend & even they don't quite understand one another.
.
All in all, this was a good, fun read. I am excited to start Burden of Faete today. I didn't go into much detail because I don't want to spoil anything. I would recommend this if you like fantasy.

Touch of Faete by Ligia de Wit is an exciting and immersive fantasy novel that explores the complex world of faeries and their gifts. The story centers around Ryanne Kelly, a young woman with the gift of foresight, who is targeted by dangerous pirates known as bradaís. When Titus Doyle, one of the bradaís, kidnaps her, Ryanne must confront the truth of her power or risk losing it forever.

One of the strengths of this novel is its well-developed characters. Ryanne is a strong and relatable protagonist, and her struggles with her powers and the danger they bring are compelling. Titus, the bradaí who kidnaps her, is a complex and intriguing character with a dark past and a conflicted nature that makes him both terrifying and sympathetic. The relationship between Ryanne and Titus is both tense and intriguing, adding a layer of romance to the story without overpowering the plot.

The world-building in Touch of Faete is also impressive, with vivid descriptions of the faerie realm and its inhabitants. The magic system is well thought out, with different gifts and abilities that are integral to the plot. The conflict between the faeries and the bradaís is also well-developed, with both sides having their own motivations and prejudices that make them feel like real factions rather than simple villains or heroes.

Overall, Touch of Faete is a captivating and well-crafted novel that will keep readers hooked from beginning to end. The combination of strong characters, intricate world-building, and high stakes make for a compelling and enjoyable read. Fans of fantasy, romance, and adventure will all find something to love in this book. I highly recommend it.

Touch of Faete is the first book of a series taking place where the magical and mundane worlds meet. Ryanne was gifted with foresight as a child from the fae. While working as a nurse, she struggles to master her gift and operate as a liaison between the fae and humanity. Unfortunately, her gift appears be of little more use than seeing who everyone ultimately ends up with romantically. Seeing so many dates ending up with anyone but her has unfortunately made Ryanne a bit obsessed with finding her own boyfriend. When she finally finds someone who doesn't trigger her foresight, Ryanne finds herself center to a conflict between the fae and their long-time enemies, the bradai.

Ultimately, Ryanne is a likable protagonist. While grooming her, the fae have kept her largely ignorant of the way their world operates as well as her role within it. They've also interfered with her own education on Earth. She is forced to recognize and confront her own ignorance and naiveté as the book goes on. Titus, the bradai she is charged with investigating, is similarly forced to confront his urges, desires, and control.

A great start to a series ultimately about growing up and self control, with a bit of a pirate twist.

I don't typically read romance-driven books. I enjoy romantic subplots, spicy or otherwise, when they are done well and contribute to the overall story. And Touch of Faete fits that bill admirably, all the more so because this is the author's debut novel.

Ryanne is a young woman who struggles at times to fit in with normal society. No wonder, for she has been marked by the inscrutable Fae for some unknown purpose. I enjoyed the Fae-human dynamic, and I especially loved Bricius, Ryanne's pixie guardian/companion, who just might have stolen the show!

At first, Titus's character appears to be a modern take on pirates of yore, but I soon learned there's something far more sinister going on. What exactly is a bradai? Finding an answer to this question drives Ryanne through this first book, and I won't risk any spoilers!

I particularly enjoyed the alternating POV between these two characters, sometimes during the same scene. Ryanne is certainly more relatable at first, but Titus evolves in interesting ways as their paths intertwine. The pantheon of other worlds is imaginative, and I expect we'll see far more of them as the series continue.

Ultimately, this book was just great fun to read. And isn't that the whole point? Highly recommend.

I received a free ARC, but this review is my honest opinion of the book

Rating: 4.5 stars
Perfect for anyone who loves fae, pirates, pixies, and a bit of romance!
Touch of Faete was the perfect read to get me out of my reading slump. I found the world to be refreshing, and the characters entertaining. I look forward to reading future books from this series and other books from this author!

Characters
The dual POV between Ryanne and Titus suited the story well. Ryanne is a strong-willed heroine who is sweet without being a pushover. I also loved that Ryanne has an adorable sidekick. Titus was swoon-worthy and quite guarded. He was a character with complex motivations, but someone I could empathize with despite his bloodlust. The banter between Ryanne and Titus was entertaining, and the developing relationship between Ryanne and Titus was my favorite part of this book. I can’t wait to get more of them in future books!

World Building & Writing Style
The writing style was good and flowed well. At times, the descriptions could drag, but I still found the story captivating and I definitely stayed up late reading this book.
I found the bradaí and their history with the fae to be fascinating. This book had a lot of unique elements with respect to the fae and their powers. There appears to be a more complex history of the world that I would be interested in exploring in the future.

I got this ARC from BookSirens and I got to choose this story to read and live vicariously through and it made me so happy!

Ryanne, a human girl gifted by the fae finds herself on a conquest to find real love. Or at least try because her visions always let her know how terribly her relationships would end if she decided to start them. However it is when she meets Titus Doyle that the adventure of her life really starts, even tho she doesn’t recognize it like that at first.

I felt like overall it is a very interesting story and plot, with some side characters that really made it feel light hearted and fun — Bricius I’m looking at you!

I’m super invested in knowing what happens next and learning more in depth about the MMC backstory!

I liked the adventure and the development of the relationships — Ryanne and Titus but also Titus and Bricius.

I wish there was a little more romance — although as I finished I got the sense that it was more subplot than the main one. But as it was advertised for Ryanne romance fails because of her touch of fae, I wish there was more to it. However, it makes me curious to see how it will develop in book 2!

If you like fantasy with magic, pirates, fae and pixies, romance and mystery, I highly suggest reading this one!

This was such a good fantasy filled break from my normal romance reading. This book is all about this girl, Ryanne, who is touched by fae, meaning she has some small fae powers even though she’s human. A man, who is essentially a pirate, tries to kidnap her but instead gets kidnapped himself by her mentor. She realizes that she had been kept in the dark about a lot of the fae world and about her own background and is set upon a quest to see if this pirate had a spark in him like fae do. Through this quest, she is able to learn more about her powers and also ends up having feelings for the pirate.

Overall, I felt like this was such a good and well balanced novel. I loved the characters and I cared about what happened next to them. The world building was also awesome. I loved the building dynamic of Titus figuring out emotions while Ryanne is teaching him and they end up building their relationship. I hope there is a sequel about what happens next!

Thank you to Net Galley and indie publishing for the ARC!

The cover is what drew me into this book. I mean, look at it! It’s lovely!

What I enjoyed about this jaunt into pirates (of a sort) and all things Fae was the introduction to lesser talked about creatures. Brownies, pixies, trolls and such plus a raft of other creatures I’d never heard of before all make an appearance in this world.

The world building was most of the time beautifully handled and rich in descriptive scenes to really paint a vivid picture. This was probably the best thing about the whole story.

The story arc was expected and kinda a little boring if I’m being honest. Where that changed was in the epilogue, I’m interested in seeing where things will go.

The writing was, at times, a bit juvenile, yet at others quite adult which made this book a little confusing. It’s almost New Adult, given the protagonist is 22, but she behaves younger and makes some very silly mistakes.

I’ll most likely pick up another story by this author again, particularly if there’s a continuation of this story.

'Touch of Faete' by Ligea de Wit is the story of Ryanne, a human seer with a touch of Fae, and Titus, an immortal bradaí pirate ruled by a need for gold and death.

Amidst a glut of Fae-based fantasy right now, 'Touch of Faete' manages to add something new and original. The world and its races are interesting and unique, particularly the bradaí. Fae and pirates is a mash up I hadn't thought I needed but it worked really well, even with the modern setting rather than something more historical which I've seen more of alongside the Fae world.

The book was incredibly easy to read and I'm definitely interested to see where the second book goes! I hope that we get a bit deeper into the characters in book two and learn a bit more about the world now that it's all been well set up in book one. Luckily I have book two to hand so no need to wait!
