Mildly amusing book about Santa drinking lots and needing a wee. Illustrations are pretty basic and there are no layers to the story. Counting and repetition for younger kids is good but not much else for me or my daughter.

Oh goodness, this may be our favorite Christmas book ever.

We do the tradition where you wrap up one book for each night of Advent. (We dont do 24 books, we actually follow the advent calender.) Everyone tries so hard to get this book.

I think what we love most about it though is Dad. He reads it with an English accent, because it's obvious pretty early on that this is an English book. (We ordered it from an English book seller.) AND he changes some of the words to make them even funnier.

So we are all rolling around, holding our stomachs, every single year.

The year dad was on a business trip during part of Advent was excruciating for the kids. They DID NOT want to pick this book with him gone.

But even without silly Dad the book is really good!

Father Christmas Needs a Wee by Nicholas Allan is a fun, festive counting book which I first came across in my SBT1 reception class's book corner. The story follows Father Christmas as he eats and drinks an increasing number of treats at each house he visits, only to realise at the last house that he has forgotten to leave any presents and that he desperately, desperately needs a wee! He delivers 10 presents at house number 10, 9 presents at number 9 and so on as quickly as he can before returning home and finally finding the key to the loo!

My SBT1 class loved this picture book and found it very funny. I would use this book with children in EYFS in Maths lessons to teach adding 1 and taking 1 away, and also to reinforce counting to 10. I would ask the children to predict how many drinks Father Christmas will drink at the next house and how many more has he drunk than at the previous house.

What a treat this book is for the Christmas season....whether to add to your own collection or give as gift it will have you laughing all the way....with Santa....to the potty. Yes, poor Santa overindulges on the drinks and the results are quite hysterical. This rhyming counting book will visually track his antics of sips and swallows and lead you to understand his predicament completely. The very worst part is because he is so focused on his liquid entertainment he forgets to leave the presents behind. He hastily beefs up his deliveries at the next homes...why?... because Santa just must get home to wee! After work he hops in his sleigh and heads off for home and for much needed relief. What happens there is very comical. Will Santa make it in time? Will he have that satisfied look of contentment on his face after his bladder is finally emptied? No spoilers here but you will enjoy how his big Wee caused Santa to flee.....get out of his way before it's too late.....it's time NOW!

The illustrations are colourful and Santa's expressions priceless. This book will certainly appeal to the younger kids (boys especially ages 3-4) and have them giggling away because they all love toilet humour. Many children have wondered how Santa manages so many visits in one night but how many have thought about how he copes with all the tasty food and beverages that are left out for him to enjoy? Can we expect a sequel about Santa and his other body functions? I hope so. Now that would be worth checking out wouldn't it?

Father Christmas needs a wee is one of the most unique Christmas stories I have read and the children love it.

The book is aimed at KS1 and EYFS but could be used in KS2 for creative writing.

The story tells the journey of Father Christmas delivering presents on Christmas eve. This is a fabulous counting story as each house he goes to he eats and drinks one more thing than the house before. By the end of the book Father Christmas is desperate for a wee.

This book can be used for so many different areas of the EYFS and National Curriculum and children can really have fun with the book developing their own ideas. How I would use this book as part of the run up to Christmas would be over a series of lessons across the curriculum. I would use it for children to write their list to Santa for literacy. For Maths we could look At counting and exploring number bonds. Children could also make their own version and as a fabulous finish we could make the food in story for a party.

I really loved this book and I look forward to using it in the future.

A favourite with both my daughter and my niece, this one comes out every year in our house. I like the idea of books that only come out for Christmas and this one always raises a smile even when children get older. The book tells the story of Father Christmas on his rounds and what happens when children leave lots of drinks out for him. The story is told in rhyme and some are a bit clumsy and don’t quite flow when read aloud, but some numbers are quite hard to rhyme to be fair. Anything even slightly lavatorial goes down well with children and this stays well on the right side of crude and is nothing but silly, Christmas-themed fun.

Reflections and lessons learned:
“At number 6, fruit mix (all SIX)”

Even Father Christmas over indulges during the holiday season… a desperate moment that surely we’ve all had, and many of us laughing at the same time! A rhyming book, where our copy is well loved and scotch taped - ironically the felt accompanying character has held up better than the pages over the years… A first solo read from my son too

Two things that children love…Father Christmas and toilet talk!
My daughter loved this book. Counting, rhyming and the anticipation of whether Father Christmas actually makes it to the toilet in time!

The rhyming isn’t great and the story is just a bit lame. It’s like a bad mix of The Hungry Caterpillar and Father Christmas. Luckily the mention of wee was enough to keep my son interested in an otherwise rubbish book.

It's summer reading at the Stow library, and you know what that means: time to corrupt my year in books with horrible children's literature! Speaking of which, my family learned about this gem a few weeks ago, and we have been referencing the title ever since. I told them that I was going to read it at the start of my 2023 book surge, and here we are.

While I found the premise to be downright hilarious and borderline crude for the intended audience, the actual execution was like a more boring Very Hungry Caterpillar. It is a counting book, and the way that "sentences" and phrases are formulated is downright bizarre. They have the integer and then the bolded word in succession instead of one or the other, which could theoretically increase understanding for an older child. But again, this is intended for children ages one to three approximately, so it would be verbally repetitive in a reading session. The title is what grabs you with its humor, but the inside is just Santa forgetting to leave gifts because he drinks so many fun drinks. I think the author would have been more successful with darker humor throughout, but I would say this is pretty harmless and not the worst kid's book I've read...somehow.

This is a funny book about Father Christmas drinking too many liquids on Christmas Eve and desperately needing a bathroom.

It’s also a number and counting book for littles to review and learn their numbers and really entertaining for the the toddler set.
