Volume mangiato in pochissimo tempo, mai noioso.

VIZ Media provided an early galley for review.

Once again, an interesting cover design with complimentary covers easily caught my attention. Behind that look of content contemplation by Haru, we are presented with the first seven chapters of this story.

The artwork inside is outstanding. The use of shading, textures and gray tones make the black and white artwork jump off of the page. The attention to details in the backgrounds and the objects with which the characters interact is top notch. The visuals move the story along effortlessly.

As for the story itself, the unlikely pairing of the two lead characters who were brought together by circumstance works well. The flashbacks show how Haru and Gaku balance one another on various levels. And thrown into the mix is Kirika, the daughter of the president of Dragon Bank, who is willing to invest in the guys when no one else will. But she has reasons of her own.

The story ends, as expected, on a cliffhanger moment to entice readers to come back to learn more of how the two guys became the huge business successes. I know I am eager to read more of this tale in the future.

An unlikely pair, Haru and Gaku, meet by chance and form a friendship after Haru saves Gaku from a mugging and Gaku deletes the security footage of Haru's vigilante justice using his super computer nerd skills.

Later, when they're both job hunting after graduating high school, Gaku is passed up every time (despite having actual skills) and Haru is picked every time (because he's a Grade A smooth talker). Gaku's final rejection from Dragon Bank prompts Haru to ditch new employee orientation and the two of them start a business together. What are they doing? NO CLUE! But the goal is one trillion dollars and they somehow made it because this whole story is set up as Gaku's flashback.

It's like reading anime Shark Tank except the duo asking for investors are playing some of the longest and craziest odds without actually having a product, getting by on pure charisma and tech skills. It's really fun to read because you never know what crazy twist is coming next, but at the same time, it feels like you're getting a crash course in business. Delightful!

A good start, interesting characters, in particular it is nice to see a female character that is interesting and not just simply physically attractive. Very nice panels with a particular style, the plot is interesting but developed a little too simplistic, I expected a staging a little less childish, especially since it is a seinen

It's been a while since I've read such an entertaining manga.

This reminds me of Liar Game crossed with Sanctuary (which Ikegami also did), smart, funny and interesting.

I'm definitely invested already.

Fun conflicts setup in this first volume. And panels by manga legend Ryoichi Ikegami make the storytelling all the better. This is one series to look out for!

Manga gracioso.

I'm not sure about this one yet. I'll have to read another volume to see if I want to continue. The story was pretty good, but business and finance are not something I usually read.

Full review in Booklist Magazine.

This story was a hoot, though the art wasn't super my style. It does match up with Haru's laissez faire mentality, so in one regard, it was the perfect choice. People are a little bit too noodly for me, but the book itself is funny, and proves you should never judge someone. Haru is totally (probably) a good dude! But this one is definitely for adults, hence the mature rating.

I still love this first volume on the re-read. Gaku and Haru are both fun protagonists, and I like their relationship already. Plus, I like the idea of a manga about building up a business from nothing - I don’t think I’ve ever seen a manga about it before. My thoughts are pretty similar to my 2024 read.

2024 review:
I picked this up on a whim since I heard good things about it, and was pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed it.

The art was really nice and old school. I recognise the artist from some older Yakuza manga series, and I really liked the style of the art. I also didn’t realise that it’s written by the same author as Dr. Stone and Eyeshield 21 lol.

I also liked the main plot, since I like series where character’s have to build something up from nothing - which in this case was a business. I loved Gaku and Haru’s interactions, and even Gaku’s character growth over this one volume which I assume will develop even further later into the series. The occasional comedy usually hit its mark as well.
Haru is a very interesting character to watch. He does a lot of crazy shit, but all of it is very calculated at the same time. I’m interested to see where his character goes into the future.

Volume 1 contains Chapters 1 to 8 with 208 pages (according to www.japanzon.com).

Anyway, what a startling volume. 🤩 It took a while for me to finish it cause it's releasing weekly. Then, I stopped following it after Chapter 7, but now I'm resuming it.

At the time of writing this review, it has 17 chapters altogether. But, I'm just recording my strong first impressions on this impressive manga. Good job Inagaki-sensei on this Seinen series!
