This was cute and sweet with some beautiful art, but I dropped the rating just because the topic of dumping a dog because you no longer want it is just sad and makes me mad.

I began to read this book for my class and was horrified. Happy ending or not it was way too sad and scary for children and even I am adult to process. I have been upset all day at the wording of this poor abandoned puppy who didn’t know why his FAMILY DID NOT COME BACK FOR HIM! The way it describes his situation is genuinely traumatizing. I have been so upset all day from how the story effected me hours and hours ago.

This book is a fiction storybook and would be great for pre-k to grade 3. This book is about a abandoned lost dog who finally finds home where he belongs for Christmas. This book has several illustrations and the pictures of the dog help capture his emotions regarding the situation he is in. This book would be great for young readers and would be a nice to read around Christmas time.

Want to teach your child about feelings - this is a great book to show them how to feel empathy as well as joy. I get a lump in my throat when I read it, but it does have a happy ending. Short and punchy dialogue a two year old (and above) can enjoy and react to.

Glad Buster found a welcoming home but had to rephrase sections of book to make it toddler appropriate.

This is a story that holds a special place in our family, as it was used by my sons to beat me into submission and adopt the dog we found, cold, injured and abandoned, the week before Christmas. 9 years later and he is an arthritic old dog with a permanent spot by the fire, but he looks so like Buster it breaks your heart every time you look at the pictures.

The story is a familiar one - a young and lively dog abandoned by his family, left to wander the streets until a kind old man, who has always wanted a dog for Christmas, takes him in. It should be on the compulsory reading list of all people who think they want a puppy, to remind them that a dog is for life.

Both Buster and Tips had a happy Christmas ending because of this story - totally recommended, but be careful how it may be used against you :)

Update: Read this year in memory of Tips x

This is a heart warming Christmas tale about a dog who gets abandoned on Christmas Eve.
The tale follows Buster as he meets a hostile cat, a mean dog, and other scary things in the world.
But all gets better when he meets a group of carolers. Finally, someone takes him home just in time for Christmas.
You will fall in love with Buster through the story and the pictures.
Your kids will beg to hear this book read again and again, and not just at Christmas time.

I've liked this book since I was little. The illustrations are really beautiful and you don't even really need the words to get story, which makes it a good children's book. The beginning of the story is pretty sad, but the ending is sweet when the dog finds a nice new home with the old man who was also alone on Christmas.

This book was a favorite of my now young adult children. In fact, my daughter asked about it the other day as she wants to buy it for her library, even though she doesn't have children. A sweet story with nice illustrations.
