Years ago Amazon used to do lists of self-published books for free and I got a lot of books during this time (well why not, it cost me nothing). Anyways, this is very clearly a book from that time because WOW this is juvenile. I think the afterward mentioned that these books were written whilst the author was in school so that does tally up with me calling these juvenile. Again, I think someone who had the guts to write a book and put it out there is far braver than I am so I don’t say this to hurt, it’s just my opinion.
The adult scenes are oddly placed, oddly phrased and I can’t help but feel that they’d fit in with a porno – or were written by people who only had that level of experience. The action scenes were like something out of a film, with the protagonist somehow managing to do miraculous things that an uninjured person would struggle to do, whilst severely bleeding… The ONLY reason this book got 2 stars from me is because that the first two stories had somewhat interesting criminal elements and I was curious to see how they’d run out. But everything just got more and more OTT as the books progressed.
Sometimes, for some reason, the line between lawful and unlawful needs to be crossed In these books that happens and shows how far we, in our modern world no longer believe in our criminal justice system. Somtimes there is cause to disregard the system. This book finds all the reasons a vigilante is born and it makes for a good read to stay with the series. I rated it 5 because I found myself wanting to read on without stopping..
These stories show a world which exists today. It is not so,impossible to imagine the horrors a man chooses to face.
Finished all four novels. They are loosely linked by character and location. Found evidence that the books would have benefited from one more good, solid edit. A few grammatical errors scattered about provided evidence of my observations.
Over all, the books are a romp. Keep your attention and the pages turning. I have long been a fan of Lee Goldberg's work. These early work-products were enjoyable - especially when compared to his later crime novels.
Really violent and filled with teenage boy sex scenes
I loved Spenser for Hire and Monk, even Hunter. So I had hopes for this series. I found myself rooting for Brett Macklin but I skipped through most of the pillage and adolescent boy sex and rape portions. I always finish a book once started. I’m sorry this time that I did so. My advice—don’t even start reading this...
If you want blood, gore, and senseless killing this is your book. If you want to feel that the good guys win, this is not your book. Good writing but it is hard to get through the sadness and nobody wins philosophy. For me books should be an escape, not an in your face, the world sucks experience. I did not enjoy this book.
I simply wasn’t impressed at all. I have lived all the other books of his that I’ve read but this was awful in my opinion. I have a promise to myself that I always finish a book even if I don’t like it and in this case I did finish it. I won’t stop reading his books as I’ve said I liked all the other but this one was not one I would recommend.
This is an intense story of violence, vengeance and death. The criminals described in these four books are vile and without mercy. A good man is turned into a vigilante style killer. Stories are suspenseful and at times very gruesome.
Finished book #1, Judgement. Good book, but I don't think I can stomach 3 more of the same. Thankfully much of it is outdated. [Interesting though to crawl back into 80s language, some of which I hadn't even realized was gone.]
Guessing non-violent solutions don't come soon enough if it all.
Four connected stories, each beginning where the previous one leaves off. Main character sort of like Charles Bronson on steroids. The writing style readable and plots just OK. This was the first time I have read this author and I don't think I will be seeking out any more of his novels.
A riveting saga that starts out simple enough then steadily builds and builds. Each book flows seamlessly into the next. Could it really happen that way? You decide...
I don't think it is even worth 1 star. I can't believe I actually read the whole book except I liked the Eve series so I thought this one could get better. I was wrong. in fact each story became bloodier and more horrific. don't bother reading it.
A little too gritty for me but. Very well written with real characters. A lot of violence, some of it involving children. Not my cup of tea but slot of people will love it
Fast paced, many times I felt myself holding my breathe. I thought it would take me awhile to finish this 4 books in 1 and then it was over. Great story
This eBook contains all four of the original .357 Vigilante novels that Goldberg originally published in 1985 under the pseudonym Ian Ludlow. Good value! The stories feature lots of blood-soaked violence served up at a fairly rapid pace. Think Death Wish merged with Dirty Harry and with a generous dollop of gratuitous sex tossed in for spice. What's not to like?
Entertaining and predictable. Nothing original here but it's easy to get lost in simple entertainment. A man's version of a sappy romance. Sex,guns and hot cars who could ask for more?
If you like a good story, action and surprising ending, Lee Goldberg gives you what you like!! I genuinely recommend The Jury Series!! Enjoyed immensely!!
