Sedonia Guillone wanted to be an author since the age of six when she first volunteered in the school library and the librarian had to put a limit on how many times she checked out her favorite books. Then at sixteen, a short story she wrote won honorable mention in a contest by the League of American Pen Women and there was no stopping her. Since then, her first M/M mystery/suspense, His Beautiful Samurai, was nominated for a Gaylactic Spectrum Award and has been required reading in a college gay and lesbian literature course. Her M/M romance, Men of Tokyo: Sudden Bliss won a Rainbow Awards honorable mention in the Conteporary category and her historical romance, Lady of Two Lairds was a finalist for The Romance Studio's Cupid and Psyche Awards and A Passionate Plume Ink Chapter of Romance Writers of America. When she's not writing, she's baking something, talking baby talk to her two cats, Iroh and Zuko and hiking in the woods of Maine with her partner.

“I’ve got you. You’re safe now.”

When he was just 12 years old, Kenji fell from the sky. Before he hits the ground, a military man saves him. Though Kenji never saw the man’s face, he never forgot his voice or the feel of his arms around him. Years later, while serving the rough patrons drinks at Spike’s Bar, Kenji has no memory of his life before.

Kenji still has vague memories of the man who saved him and often has strong visions and dreams that affect him physically and emotionally. When he meets Jake Fallon, an Intergalactic Space Patrol (ISP) officer, at the bar, he is immediately taken by the man and feels inexplicably safe with him. Jake is equally attracted to Kenji even though he is still grieving the loss of his partner and lover. Though they have sex early on, their emotional connection is deep. Kenji makes Fallon feel alive again and Fallon makes Kenji feel protected.

As Kenji and Fallon gradually unravel Kenji’s past, it is not long before Kenji is in danger with a vicious bounty hunter on his trail. And that is only the beginning of his troubles.

I know amnesia plots are a bit cliché, but I rather liked the way it was done here. Kenji’s amnesia wasn’t caused by a bump on the head; his memory was deliberately erased. When Kenji starts to regain his memories, he retains his kind nature, but reveals another stronger side of his personality and his ability to “see” becomes more pronounced.

I loved this gripping, fast-paced, and very romantic space opera. It was as comforting as a steaming mug of hot chocolate.

Thanks to Vivian from Bookie Nookie's Erotic Lending Group for lending this to me.

Fallon’s Jewel by Sedonia Guillone may be one of my favorite novels I’ve read by her. Not only was I immediately caught up in the mystery about Kenji’s past; I fell in love with the heroes, Kenji and Jake. The intense emotional connection between them kept me enthralled with the story early on in the book and left me with a very satisfied feeling at the end of it.

Kenji doesn’t remember who he is. From the moment he woke up on a strange planet with nothing but a gold statue in his possession, everything that happened before that event in his life is nothing but a blank. Kenji is haunted by this reoccurring dream about being saved by a faceless man, but other than that, Kenji has no idea about the life he led before. He’s taken under the wing of some nice people, and to make ends meet, he takes a job as a bartender at a local dive.

Even though Kenji gets hit on by men all the time, he can’t bring himself to sleep around with just anyone. Even though he has no idea about his past, he feels like he hasn’t been involved in a relationship before, and is determined to wait until he feels something special and have an emotional connection with someone instead of just sleeping around.

Jake Fallon is an Intersteller Patrol cop. His job keeps him busy fighting evil from different universes. Because of this, Jake really hasn’t been able to have many successful relationships, nor has he been able to make a house a home. Instead he lives off a small aircraft alone and this causes him to have a lonely life. When Jake first lays eyes on the mysterious and exotic looking Kenji, he’s immediately smitten with him. There is something about the sweet, sexy, innocent and mysterious Kenji that calls to Jake’s heart.

As the men just start getting to know each other, Kenji’s life becomes in grave danger. To keep Kenji from harm, Jake whisks him away on his aircraft and both men become determined to solve the mystery of Kenji’s past for they can hopefully have a future together.

Both Kenji and Jake ended up being very fascinating characters. You would think that because of Jake’s job, he would have been some hard-nosed cop who would have been hard to love. Wrong…he was tender, loving and smart and his inner strength and determination to do the right thing made him the perfect man for the sweet and sexy Kenji. I easily rallied behind both men and I rejoiced at the ending they shared at the end of their story.

I admit that Science Fiction based homoerotic romances aren’t usually my favorite books to read, but as usual, Ms. Guillone, swept me away in the love that Kenji and Jake shared between them. Plus, the mystery behind Kenji’s past kept me intrigued throughout the book. Fallon’s Jewel is a very fast paced read and I loved every minute of it!

Pretty entertaining

I bought this book because I saw it on The Tonight Show when Jimmy Fallon used it in one of his skits. I like to read sic fi of almost any type, but I really do love gay sic fi romance. This one had a bit too much sex for me - I ended up skimming most of that - it was okay, but too much erotica doesn't always makes story better. I am glad I bought it. The characters were very likable and the overall premise was pretty entertaining.

The garish cover art gives all away - this is spectacularly shallow, trope-y and contrived in the worst ways, crammed full with everything one finds in a penny dreadful apart from the decent writing: whimsical world and character building, bland, unimaginative dialogues, awkward as well as tasteless overuse of the alpha hero's magically healing penis, the other protagonist's disabilities tiresomely dwelt upon to drive home some plot point and then shoven away whenever the need for energetic, borderline acrobatic, sex with his lover asserts itself, ridiculously crotchety plotting that rests on devices so silly and foreshadowing so childish (my gosh, the dream!!!!) that one blinks hard in doubt of one's own eyesight, and no sci-fi atmosphere whatsoever. Mrs Guilone must have suffered from a dry spell with looming bills on the horizon, for it would have taken but a few tweaks here and there, along a more logical plot, to heighten the reader's pleasure up to tolerable levels.

Kenji is a young beautiful man without memory living in a post apocalypse out of Earth planet. He has no memory of his past but one thing he is sure of, he is waiting for Mr Right: world can crash down, millenniums can pass, but Mr Right is still the strongest force to motivate the people with a pure and innocent heart.

Even if Kenji is working as bartender in a lap dance bar and bordello, he seems detached from what happens around him; he is kind and gentle with everyone, but, even if he has desires, like any other young man, he can’t bring himself to satisfy them, at least not until Fallon enters the bar. Kenji is always dreaming of an handsome fellow who is saving him, and Fallon seems to perfectly play the role. An Intergalactic Space Patrol officer, Fallon has just arrived in Terran A during his usual lap; recent widower, his partner has died in an accident two years before, Fallon is not really searching for solace, but Kenji is sweet and tempting, like a forbidden fruit. After only one night together, Fallon knows he will do everything to protect his “jewel”, his beautiful and precious Kenji.

This is your classical adventurous romance, with the protective hero, Fallon, who has to play his role with the damsel in distress, Kenji. Fallon is not exactly an Alpha man, he is not so stubborn and callous, and actually sometime he is more Han Solo than Luke Skywalker, but in the end he is able to do the job. The story has also its funny moments, especially when we “meet” Fallon’s parents, a Manchester housewife with the body of a quarterback and her “couch potato” husband: Fallon has not exactly aristocratic origins, all the opposite of his refined and gentle lover, Kenji, that even when has no memory of who he is, is able to behave, and even dress, like royalty.

The author has for sure a fascination with everything from the East, culture, religion, fashion; it’s clear in her description of Kenji and Kenji’s people custom: she put it in contraposition with Fallon’s culture, highlighting how Kenji represents peace and balance, but Fallon is strength and passion. A mix of both of them, represented by their relationship, is the perfect solution. Fallon has to protect Kenji, and what Kenji represents, even at the expenses of his own happiness.

Even if this should be an adventurous romance, with the crash-bum-bang of intergalactic fights, sometime it seemed more a video game, with the easy safety exits if you play the bonus; I haven’t really had the feeling that Fallon and Kenji were really in danger, it always seemed like they were able to find a way to escape. And then, both of them seemed more interested in what they could share in bed, then what actually was happening outside. In any case, even if the sex was plenty and good, the romance was always more, and romance “kisses”, with the damsel running into his hero arms, were plenty available all along.

I will admit this is my first review and the first book I've read by this author.

Fairly certain, it's my last for Ms. Guillone.

With all due respect, the first obstacle for me is the cover. It denotes roots in Sci-Fi and yet, there is little to no real SF element in the content beyond a passing scene or two. The writing is heavy handed and I felt it didn't flow, as though the author wasn't putting 100% into this and gave up on her own work less than halfway through. Clunky, unimaginative and long winded, there were so many times I wanted the author to find the chase and cut to it. The plot premise sounded good but ended up being vague and weak with no substance.

In the act of fairness, I did force myself to finish the book because sometimes the writer can spin it and redeem themselves before the last page but this wasn't the case. Maybe I'm picky but another thing that turns me off is lack of good editing. Toss in less than basic grammar skills and an obvious dearth of actual research and I'm actually disappointed because I've had a couple of friends who recommended this author once they learned of my reading preferences.

My biggest problem these days with so many authors is you can tell they're churning out book after book after book, seemingly more concerned with quantity than actual quality.

With the right guidance and attention to detail, plus perhaps more study in grammar and editing, the author will improve but for me, I'm giving them a hard pass.

Not the best written book, but not the worst either, it's riddled with typos and formatting issues. However, the characters, while not tremendously well developed, are interesting and enjoyable to watch. The action scenes in the first half are well paced and keep your attention in the grand tradition of space operas through time.

The second half of the book, sadly, is less interesting and more cliched. The dialog is stilted and the book tries to be something more grand than porn. The politics are religion are barely poked at and the conclusion is a grand deus ex that should cause civil war, not a lot of boinking.

I basically read this book as a joke so I was surprised by how readable it was... but my expectations were set pretty damn low.

Some of the dialog is laughably clunky, the actual plot resolution hinges on magical healing cock, and I was somehow strongly reminded of Piers Anthony's Phase/Proton novels... and yet, I was kind of charmed by it? Interracial romance, visibly disabled MC, honestly just an unexpectedly engaging story.

I couldn't honestly say I would recommend this book, but I enjoyed reading it.

(This review may contain spoilers).

This book succeeded in pulling me into it almost straight away. I liked the characters and the growing romance between them - even though I kind of felt it moved a bit too fast and that some periods of time were skipped over.

I really liked Kenji and Fallon. I thought that the book was pretty well-written and the emotions that the two characters felt for each other came across really well. It was also really nice to read a romance book that wasn't filled with crude language and constant swearing.

I was a bit confused about what Kenji was supposed to be, though by the end of the book, the bounty hunter's actions made sense. The religion that Kenji seems to be a part of looks like it's a mixture of different religions and I would have liked a bit more detail about it.

The other characters were interesting and really well-written. I would have liked to see more of Fallon's parents - they seemed like they would be interesting characters.

I noticed a cliche that I see a lot with bad guys who aren't the main bad guy in the book/film/TV series/etc. Apparently, there is no honour among the bad guys. And, speaking of the bad guys, I felt that they moved somewhat slower than they could have done. After the drugging, I couldn't see much danger to Kenji. And I wasn't sure how what they were doing was supposed to work in any case.

I did find this book to be quite well-written on the whole. I was able to see a lot of the scenes happening in my mind and I cared about the characters. Kenji's relationship with his sister and others of his people were quite good as well, I felt. I would definitely be interested in reading more books by this author in the future.

This was an Amazon freebie I picked up in December 2011 and its number came up in the tbr lotto and I really liked it.

Jake Fallon and Kenji meet at the bar Kenji is bartending at since he turned up a few months previously with amnesia. There's an instant connection between them. The next time they meet, Kenji is being chased by a bounty hunter and there is obviously much more to Kenji's history and Jake and Kenji's connection that he can't remember. Right amount of sexin' and suspense.

Will definitely read other book I have on tap for this author Flying Fish by Sedonia Guillone - seriously, aren't these great covers?!

Kenji doesn't remember much more than his name, he has strange dreams about a man that catches him as a he falls. He only remember waking up naked and alone. Working as a bartender, he decides to stay last one night and meets Jake a cop with the interstellar police. Jake and Kenji start to get close over one weekend.

I enjoyed this book, it was a bit of a mystery, but the relationship between Kenji and Jake was great. Each of the characters had a nice bit of growth.

Simplistic language with clichéd sentences, simplistic plot, stereotyped characters.

Space, the future, the final frontier and all that jazz had me hopping and praying this was going to be a good book, something I could get lost in. I'm happy to say overall I was. I found the story well crafted. It was predicable, which is fine, because I don't think the author had any intention of making this a heady book with some great lesson we were to learn. What I liked most about this book is that everything got wrapped up and brought to a conclusion, even for background characters. Additionally, the two main characters were charming and different enough to make them interesting and readable.

With all the gay themed books out there I'm finding the rush to get the character in bed and having sex to be getting in the way of the story. I get it, people want sex and romance but does it have to be in the first or second chapter, is it possible to have the characters get to know each other? I know I'm asking for a lot, but I'm just asking. I think these writers use sex between the characters as a bit of a crutch there are other ways for two people to be intimate without having to be naked. By no means get rid of all the sex, it's fine and if done well, as in this book, can add to the story.

It's a short read but well worth it.
