The Game of Thrones continues, but I felt like I was reading an entirely different series. I use that analogy specifically, because people die in this book in quite unpleasant ways. No, it’s not incredibly graphic, but there is blood, which is very different than previous installments. Given that this series wraps with the next book, I almost wonder if Endo started this series without a clear plan. You see, it’s about a girl…no, wait, that’s getting mundane (which it was) so let’s add magic, and politics, how about a boy, and now they grow horns. A disorganized grasp for plot points to see which feels right to hang onto.

This is the fourth volume of a five-book series from Tatsuya Endo, the author behind the fantastic Spy x Family series. This is sort of an updated version of the Tale of the Bamboo Cutter, a Japanese folklore story about Princess Kaguya, a princess on the moon who is sent down to the Earth.

Much more action, as Toyo, the younger sister of Kiruhito Matsunouchi, travels with Kaguya to get her sword back and clear her mother's name. Kiruhito finds out Toyo is still alive, and joins with her to fight their father. A pretty good action-packed penultimate chapter.

I found this one tough to follow and the artwork is not as compelling as other manga I've read. Deciding whether to press on with the series or not... stay tuned.
