Introduces the reader to Alfred Adler?s (1870 ? 1937) influential approach to psychotherapy, that human behavior is goal oriented and socially embedded, and emphasizing understanding individuals? characteristic ways of moving through life?the life style?before working toward change. Illustrates how Adler?s ideas have influenced current practice and highlights the short-term nature of its interventions with individuals, couples, families, and groups, as well as in educational settings. Readers will find a model of diagnosis that can be used to complement DSM diagnoses, many case examples to illustrate important Adlerian concepts, and helpful therapist-client dialogues with interpretive comments that show the counselor?s active approach to assessment and collaborative problem-solving.
This book is a very good primer on Adlerian psychotherapy. The authors cover the foundational assumptions and guidelines of this counseling perspective in a succinct manner. They describe several Adlerian techniques and include two case studies. Future directions of modern Adlerian psychotherapy are also suggested. If you are looking for an introductory text on Adlerian theory, this book is for you.
Adlerian Therapy : Theory and Practice is a truly outstanding book about adlerian theory and strategies, techniques, and tactics, including all kind of therapies (individual, group, family, couples, brief and play therapy). A full descriptive material is presented, including very good examples. This can be a very good manual for all adlerians or other psychotherapists, but it could serve as a base of useful information for people who want to get better ideas of how to improve their lives. Adler’s ideas seemed out of step with the zeitgeist of his times. Today’s world is perfectly suited for Adler’s ideas. More and more people seem to be searching for answers to how to be happy and satisfied person. Adler’s practical, down-to –earth methods are being used in school, child-raising, and clinical settings.
Core concept-nya dibahas, tetapi cuma sekilas... dan ketika udah "mulai seru", kembali lagi ke format "[some researcher] says that blablabla... ([some researcher], [some year])" bikin sebell.
tldr: lebih kayak jurnal ilmiah daripada buku (but in a bad way [kinda])
This book is so helpful! Adler contributed to so much in modern psychology and yet is hardly mentioned outside of play therapy. This is such a shame, the way he views the world makes so much sense and the interconnected nature of humans and how we can collaborate to change our lives. His ideas go beyond his name, and apparently that’s what he hoped for.
Very easy to read and grasp Adlerian ideas in different contexts. Super helpful for diving deeper into how to use this theoretical perspective.
I read the book for a class, and it was a tremendous help. It was brief enough to explain the major tenets of the theory, but in depth enough to also describe the techniques. I was able to conceptualize through the theory, and got more information on the theory than I have in class.
