Quick easy read. I read this book to my 8 year old son. He has seen the Disney movie on Johnny Appleseed which reinforces the myths of Johnny Appleseed. This book does a good job separating fact from fiction. All of my kids have enjoyed learning the truths of Johnny Appleseed through this book.

John Chapman, known as Johnny Appleseed, was a real man that became a legend that tall tales arose from. Johnny went ahead of settlers and planted apple orchards so they would be grown before they came and was known as a friend to people and animal alike. The book ends with a timeline showing important dates in the life of the real man John Chapman. This book will tell the true story that led to the legends to children, so that they know that he was a real man and can be educated about his true actions.
