Sex is the most powerful and important thing in the universe, and if you aren't instantly good at it, you probably never will be and everyone will laugh at you. This is something you should know before even attempting sex. Fortunately, you hold in your hands the ultimate guide to getting your rocks off, rigorously field tested by the authors. Every sexual technique they have tried. Every erogenous zone they have erogenated. Every STD they have suffered from - sometimes for way too long - just to see what would happen.
But beware - this sexy knowledge comes with a terrible price: After you have read this book, there is no going back. Once absorbed, the wisdom contained in The Sexy Book of Sexy Sex cannot be unlearnt. You may easily spend the rest of your life orgasming your brains out, and neglecting your friendships, your career, and every other aspect of your life that doesnt involve constant genital stimulation. To call you a mindless sex zombie would be putting it gently. But you will be completely satisfied . . . as will your legions of sexual partners. WELL, ARE YOU IN?
Comedy team and real-life couple Kristen Schaal and Rich Blomquist went to the mattress (literally) to bring a whole new brand of sex advice to the masses. In The Sexy Book of Sexy Sex, learn about SandWhispers, the world's premier erotic destination. Hear the untold story of the discovery of the female orgasm. Uncover the secret world behind the Mile High Club.
With full-color illustrated advice and information on everything from orgies ("the more the hairier"), to sex toys ("Cupid's toolbox"), to masturbation ("the auto-erotic fixation"), Kristen and Rich explore, celebrate, and ridicule humanity's most treasured pastime the sexy world of sexy sex.
Kristen Schaal is an American actress, voice artist, writer, and comedian, best known for her roles as Mel in the HBO series Flight of the Conchords and as a contributor on The Daily Show.
Coffee table books: who buys them? I ask you. I got this moderately amusing coffee table book from the library, and, as I suspected when I leafed through the soon-to-be-remaindered copies at the local book emporium, it is never more moderately amusing than its moderately amusing title, except maybe for the "Where's Waldo at an Orgy" two-page spread (dirty!), which is, at the very least, fitfully amusing.
Well here it is; a book so sexy that it has the word ’sex’ in the title three times. Now that’s gotta be sexy!
Well it is, sort of. What this book actually is, is a look at sex from all angles (no laughing please). Authors Kristen Schaal and Rich Blomquist have put together the latest compendium of all things sex in a style somewhat reminiscent of the old Spy magazine or National Lampoon books (or even Jon Stewart’s latest works). A veritable hodge-podge of information, essays, charts and parodies covering the ins and outs (did we just say that) of sex throughout the ages.
Topics here include sex through the ages (A Brief History of Sex in chart form), a Sex Hall of Fame (from Casanova to Hef), tips, tricks and tools of the trade, as well as more personal pursuits for every orientation imaginable. There is also a section on the future of sex, for those that don’t want to be left out of the before, after and afterer life. (their words – not ours).
While certainly comical and well laid out (or is it layed? We never know.), The Sexy Book of Sexy Sex is about as clever and over-the-top as one could imagine on this subject. If that was not clear to the reader by the end, it should be by the time you get to the acknowledgment section, where the authors have made such a mess that they have to apologize to their families and closest friends.
Not as funny as Colbert's I Am America and so Can You but funnier than anything by Rush Limbaugh, The Sexy Book of Sexy Sex* is an encyclopedia of all the things you want to do in the bedroom but know you probably shouldn't since it was, after all, written as a joke.
*Not recommended for readers in the middle of a serious and depressing break up. DEFINITELY recommended for couples, singles, polys, readers going through an un-serious breakup, virgins, liberal grandmas, and gazellemos.
Received this as a gift from one of the masters of awesome. I laughed, I cried, I laughed until I cried. I yelled for my partner in crime to come over and see things. All in all, I loved this book. It's everything I could say about sex, but in a much better package.
The fake quotes on the back of this coffee table sized book are what got me to read it: “Even hotter in Braille” made me giggle. But, I have found Kristen Schaal hilarious in just about everything I have seen her in (especially “What We Do in The Shadows” and “Last Man on Earth”), and Blomquist writing for “The Daily Show” sealed the deal. I will say, I was not sure what to expect, but holy crap, that was shockingly filthy. Yet, I have to admit, I laughed. Actually, I laughed a lot. I mean, the title of the book does not lie: this book is all about sex. I found the narrative interjections to be a bit too much of a good thing (felt like those parts were fairly one-note and went on too long), but honestly, as long as you are not easily offended, and you are comfortable with risqué and “taboo” topics relating to sex, with tons of…imaginative images…this is a hoot.
Of course, now I need to take the advice on page 11 and hide this book somewhere where my children will not find it: they are just ready for “masturfiction” (page 66) or the best selling sex toys (ex. “Sleazy bake oven” on page 54) or any single page of this book.
I expected this to be really funny and maybe a tiny bit sexy. What I got was a boring, cringeworthy book. All the humor can be summarized as "lol I am so random" and trying to be quirky. Quirky is not funny. A lot of the humor was also really immature in the "I am 13 and this is funny" way. For example that bit about Anne Boleyn and Henry VIII was distasteful and kinda vulgar in a bad way. The continuous mention of politics and making jokes about republicans was also in very poor taste and seemed uncreative. Very low quality humor altogether, not to mention that I was flipping through the book quickly after about 60 pages in because it became really annoying and borderline unbearable. I did consider not finishing it but somehow i pulled through and speed read it. & personally the illustrations were ugly but I'm sure this doesn't play a role to other people.
Not funny enough to dedicate the time to read every page, but flipping through the lists was enjoyable enough.
The section on straight sex got a few chuckles out of me (probs because I'm the most familiar with it):
"One of the biggest mistakes couples make is letting the hustle and bustle of modern life interfere with their sex lives. ... That is why we recommend making your bedroom a Slow Zone. That means no clocks, no responsibilities, no anything that takes away from dedicating yourself to satisfying your lover's needs, which, as you will soon discover, takes longer and longer the more they get sick of you."
Married and comedians, Schaal and Blomquist compile all the social and biological aspects of coitus into this comedic collection of textbook style lessons, book excerpts, illustrations, and how-to guides. The history and development of sex is explored with areas touching on homosexuality and sexuality spectrums, transgender, fetishes, teledildonics (the future of sex), and so much more. As promising as this concept is, the book starts off really strong and increasingly becomes less funny (much like bad sex). Sadly, I didn't enjoy this book as much as I would hope. It is worth skimming through though.
I felt like this was more of a joke on me than it was actually funny or sexy. Or that it was funny once but got translated to another language and then back again and lost 99% of the funny. Or that it got written in the middle of the night when the authors were all slaphappy and laughing and no one who wasn't in the room would get it. There were a few pages that were kind of silly/funny but overall I would not recommend it.
I randomly found this on Amazon & the cover just looked so funny, plus I adore Kristen Schaal & after receiving it today in the mail from a very sweet friend I did a brief scan through the pages & I was delighted to discover how brilliant & funny the chapters are, so many awesome details, pictures & notes, like a scrapbook of sex & humor, I can't wait to really dive into it.
A friend suggested that comedy books are written with such a strange in-crowd syncopation nowadays that unless one is a prolific reader of them it's difficult to "hear" the funny. I would agree after reading "Sexy Sex," which felt forced, ran too long in the story sketches, and just never really lifted above the smirk level.
Funny if not hilarious. I got it for $10 used hardcover, but it's more of a $5 used paperback book, if you see what I mean. Not as out-and-out funny as the Jon Stewart & Stephen Colbert books of a similar vein, but good for a flight or weekend reading. I won't be keeping it, but I'm glad to have read it.
I about pissed myself when I saw that this book needed to go on my New Arrivals table at the bookstore so OF CORSE we had to read through it.. it was a must!! and it was friggin great... laughed for two days with people from work about it.
I'm not sure if this book was supposed to be informative and/or funny, but it was neither. Having seen Kristen Schaal's stand up comedy I went into this really wanting to like it but couldn't find a single redeeming quality in the entire thing. I hope others get more out of it than I did.
Pretty funny. Read EW review and saw her discuss on talk show. Had never seen her before, she was of-beat and seemed like she'd have some entertaining stuff. Quick read, since it's formatted like John Stewart's America: The Book.
ooooooooh my god this is so funny. kristen schaal is the butter to my biscuit and i wish i was married to her. or on an intimate level with her.. with or without sex. i will take either one (but i prefer with).
Kristen Schaal is my hero for making my favorite new coffee-table book. Sexy Sex purely makes fun of formulaic and annoying sex guides. This is a hilarious breath of fresh air in a world of stupid sex books.
One of the funniest books I have read in my entire life. I had to read most of it aloud to my fiance because the book was so funny! OMG! A must must must read. I would give it more than 5 stars if I could.
Not very funny, sadly. It's essentially a version of The Daily Show's "America (The Book)", but with all of the cleverness and wit removed, and a bunch of naughtiness thrown in. I like naughtiness as much as the next person, but it got tiring really quickly.
Eh. Like her, love the Daily Show, don't mind disgusting humor, but this was all a bit much. Maybe it's better read a little at a time, instead of over the course of the week, but it wasn't humorous by the end.
Didn't know Kristen Schaal (Mel on Flight of the Conchords) lives with a writer for the Daily Show. Can't tell if it's actually funny or not--check the library.
