13 books23 followersElizabeth Wagele was an American artist, musician, and author best known for her engaging and accessible works on the Enneagram of Personality and the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator. Raised in Salt Lake City before moving to Berkeley at age 10, she was drawn to creative expression early in life, spending her time drawing, playing piano, and inventing stories. A talented pianist and composer, she studied under Bernhard Abramowitsch and Andrew Imbrie, graduating cum laude from the University of California, Berkeley, in 1961. Music remained a central part of her life, both personally and professionally.
Wagele began writing books in her mid-fifties, often infusing humor and self-drawn cartoons into her work. Her 1994 collaboration with Renee Baron, The Enneagram Made Easy, became a bestseller and was translated into 17 languages. She continued to explore the Enneagram through various lenses, including parenting (The Enneagram of Parenting), relationships (Are You My Type, Am I Yours?), and even the experience of grief (The Enneagram of Death). A champion of introversion, she authored The Happy Introvert, blending psychological insight with personal reflection.
Beyond writing, Wagele produced music CDs like The Beethoven Enneagram and Enneagram Variations, where she interpreted personality types through musical performance. Her multidisciplinary approach brought psychological concepts to life in a uniquely creative and compassionate voice. May 3, 2016Many books about the Enneagram personality typing system focus on self-understanding and personal growth, but few focus on how the Enneagram can help people of differing personality types get along. This easy-to-read cartoon-illustrated book goes into detail about what every type likes and dislikes about every other type, which types are most likely to pair up in romantic relationships, and how partners, friends, and coworkers can best support people of different types. It also explores how the Enneagram relates to Myers-Briggs. It’s a great book to read if you’re trying to better understand yourself and your relationships.

Like the previous title by the same authors, this is a good book if you don't expect too much. There is some repeated information from the other book, mainly for figuring out your number if you're still uncertain, but the emphasis is definitely on how each number relates to another. The relationship examples seem to be predominantly relevant to romantic relationships, but any close relationship could benefit as well. I found the information about common traits in relationships between numbers helpful for clarifying certain people's numbers. Also like the other book, this one also brings in correlations to MBTI types in the last chapter. Overall, a quick read with some good insights.

I enjoy reading about personality types and theories and a friend recommended I check out this book. I had never heard of the Enneagram model for personalities before and after reading this I found it to be a little bit disappointing. Each type is vague and overlaps quite a bit with the other types and they give you lots of wiggle room to fit into each one. It felt more like a choose your own adventure of personalities. There is no scientific basis for any of it. That being said, I'm not sure many of the popular personality models have a strong scientific backing either.

To some, this book or type of book might sound "corny" but I actually loved it!
I am a fan of the enneagram as a means of better communicating with other personality types.
This book gives great and relevant examples of each type and how each type relates to other types. If you are into the enneagram, I would reccomend!

This book is an excellent tool for authors. I have used it to help define my characters in my last four manuscripts, and it has helped me "get to know" them before I write the first word.
Are You My Type, Am I Yours is a psychology book that contains nine basic personality types. It details the best and worst attribute of each type, gives a personality inventory and talks about social and relational characteristics. One of the things I like best is at the end of each personality description, it talks about what each type likes and dislikes in the others.
This is fantastic fodder for the fiction writer. For example, in my manuscript, Captured by the Pirate Laird, I identified my heroine as a perfectionist and my hero as an achiever. Ones and threes are not connected in the enneagram, which can make the relationship a bit more challenging.
To give a tidbit of an example of what I'm talking about, perfectionists are ethical, idealistic, productive, etc. They like achievers because they work hard and accomplish a lot. They have trouble with achievers because they are overly sensitive and withdraw when confronted.

I got to meet one of the authors when she came to my clinical book club. Cool! I'm finding that the more books I sample on the enneagram the better handle I get about what it is and the potential for illumination that it provides. This book was particularly interesting b/c it talks about what each number type is looking for in relationship and hits on how different ppl of different numbers interact when in relationship. Especially interesting are the appendixes that correlate the Myers-Briggs types with the enneagram types. Hmm.

I generally prefer the more conceptual writing on the subject, but this was a lot of fun to read! And, it does give some good advice on how different personality types can better get along with each other.

A bit of cheeseball to it, I still like this book and refer to it often. It's great for when people need some "Enneagram Lite" explanations. Plus the drawings are cute.
