Five hundred years ago, Grace Gladwell had captured Christian Durand's heart and then abandoned him in his darkest hour. Seeing Grace again after all these years has sent Christian reeling-even though she seems to remember nothing of the medieval soldier, he wants her more than ever. But is Grace merely a pawn of the vampire queen who has set her immortal sights on Christian?
I'm a USA Today bestselling author who LOVES the hot stuff, both to read and to write. My favorite obsessions are all things coffee, almost everything on HGTV, and dreaming up new stories.
Oh! This was so much better than Devil at Midnight! This tenth installment in the Midnight series (a.k.a. FitzClare Chronicles) was a delightful exploration of making a movie in the Hollywood of 1956 which just happens to reunite Grace with Christian (Devil at Midnight). An unknowing Grace with an angry Christian.
I did enjoy this very much in spite of all the weaknesses in the story. Holly has sunscreen making it possible for Christian to film during the day. Nor does Holly take a stand as to whether Naomi (Nim Wei) has any knowledge of Grace and Christian's earlier encounters---there's just this hint that maybe Naomi knows. I know, I know, there's supposed to be mystery but there isn't enough suggestion to provide this, just my own sneaking suspicion. Grace is a little too easy in her succumbing to Christian whereas Christian is not believable in his anger toward Grace. Yeah, I'm being picky. I would have liked it to not have been so easy.
I do like the change in Nim Wei...but does it last? It seems so contrary to her approach in the past.
This is the final conclusion to the series in my understanding. Upon completion, there was no indication of any further instalments but I may be wrong.
We have gone full circle with Christian and his life. Redemption for a past conflicted, further understanding for Grace for a life in turmoil. Feeling past lives memories.
As always, no spoiling. A emotional roller coaster of a series, with loveable upyr characters. For Emma Holly lovers do add the series to your library. For Paranormal lovers, don’t miss out on a great read.
Conclusion, do we further down the road read about the Queen of the upyr, Nim Wei. Do the Fitz Clare’s make another appearance. Suppose we may wait and see.
Angel at Dawn by Emma Holly Paranormal Romance – Jan 4th, 2010 4 stars
Emma Holly's much anticipated conclusion to the star crossed romance between Christian and the ghost Grace from Devil at Midnight is concluded in this 1950's era, paranormal romance.
What I loved about the 1st book, Devil at Midnight, is the fantastic tension when Grace becomes a ghost and could not be materialize when Christian is human. So although their love bloomed, they cannot physically touch each other, which made it very intense since they were so attracted to each other.
In this story, we discover that Grace was dead for 6 minutes. During those 6 minutes, she traveled back in time to the 1400’s and met Christian as a ghost and they fell in love. When she was brought back alive she returned to her own body in the future (1950s). But she left Christian when needed her and he thought she deserted him every since. Now it is hundreds of years later and Christian is an immortal vampire turned by the evil Nim Wei, and he just wants to be left alone.
Christian lives on an isolated farm in the 1950s when Nim Wei, the vampire queen who turned him, visits with an unexpected guest. Her fresh faced assistant is named Grace Gladwell, and she looks exactly like the love he lost 500 years ago except a little older. Nim Wei is producing a film and she wants Christian as the main lead. With his handsome looks, Nim Wei knows the movie will be a hit. Christian doesn’t want to do anything with the film or Nim Wei but her assistant, Grace is another matter. Grace is sweet, innocent and full of life.
He soon realizes she must be the Grace who left him when he needed her many years ago. But then Grace was a ghost and this human Grace is not the same woman who pledged her love to him. This Grace has no memory of their past. Christian is troubled and frustrated when she doesn’t remember him! Can he get over his sense of betrayal and convince Grace of their past love?
There isn't as much tension in this story as the 1st. The sexual tension between the 2 main characters is scorching but it doesn't have the angst and longing of the prior book. Mainly because Grace doesn't remember Christian which is a little frustrating and slightly anti-climatic. Also Nim Wei has a soft spot for Grace and is unaware of their past together so she isn't as evil as the 1st book, which makes it less tense, too. This is a solid romance and a satisfying conclusion to their romance but I didn't not get as emotionally involved as I did with the prior book.
Scenes between the main characters are blazing but the story lacks the sweet wonder of 1st love from the prior book since Christian is now hardened and much older. Still, his undying love for Grace is touching and poignant as Christian tries to help Grace remember him.
A worthy and satisfying conclusion to Devil at Midnight.
Ok I loved how this story went if u didn't read Devil at Midnight ur not going to get the full effected of the story. Grace ends up coming back to her time and not remembering a thing. Leaves her mom after her mom decided to go back to her dad. She ends up working for Nim which is so werid but it works for them.. Nim decided to make a movie that is based off of Christian past and who's better the play the part but Christian. She try to talk him into it which he wasn't going for it until he seen Grace and all them feelings came back plus he was mad at her but for some reason she didn't remember anything the only thing she knew was that she wanted him and didn't know why. Christian decided to do the movie as long as Grace was there. Not to give it all away u get to see how the movie goes and the heat between Cristian and Grace Plus how some of Cristian odd friends come back in some way. Crazy!!!!! Lol plus love that the movie their making is also in the book at the back !!!!!! Hope U ENJOY as much as I did!!!!!!!!!! <3
Christian and Grace’s story transcends time and dimension. Angel at Dawn picks up where Devil at Midnight leaves off.
Intriguing look as reincarnation from the perspective of a centuries-old vampire. I've long been fascinated by Christian, his story does not disappoint.

One of my favorite authors. I love this series in particular, as I enjoy her paranormal romances more than the contemporary ones. What I love about Emma Holly (and Kresley Cole too for that matter) is that the worlds they build around their characters are so very different from what you usually find in a paranormal romance series. And you never ever get a cookie cutter format out of either author. You never ever feel like this book is just like the last book in the series only the names have been changed. Her originality is what makes this author, and especially this series, so very good.
I love the continuation of the upyr stories, and enjoyed Christian and Grace's story. the sex is hot, as always, and the characters are well rounded and the stories all fit. no incongruities or dead-ends. sadly, I didn't stretch it out; I read it in one sitting and now must wait impatiently for another. nah, I think is calling out for another reading :)
This book caught my eye at my local library's new shelf, because the bright cover. And since it is from the mind of Emma Holly. She has a way of telling a tale that just wraps you up. I couldn't help re-reading certain sections. This was my introduction to this particular series, these alphas are hot. Sexy Read!
I got an ARC of this book and LOVED it as much...if not more than the previous book Devil at Midnight. I recommend to anyone who likes a hot, keep you on your toes story. I can't say enough about Emma Holly and her writing...it was fabulous! :)
Definitely enjoyed the 2nd book of Christian & Grace alot more. Storyline moved smoother & quicker. If you enjoy the steaminess of Ms. Holly's sex scenes...there is no let down here. Emma more of the Fitz Clares please!!!
Just okay. Sex scenes were good, but I found the story lacking. I was skimming the story to get to the good bits, so you know that isn't a good sign. Just didn't love the plot, characters, or anything but the steamy sex scenes!
This was the follow up book about Christian Durand, a mercenary captain, and a beautiful ghost. The ghost is no longer a ghost and not half as intriguing.
I like how these last two books are very different than the other stories. And the ever changing Nim Wei! The modernizing of being a vampire in the 50's! A great finish to Durands story.
you know how, most of my reviews of series are all like, come on hurry up and get to the point already?! well, not these. i could read this series for ever. really hope this isn't the last one
