A second art book featuring even more stunning artwork from Kaori Yuki, creator of the shojo/goth manga hit Angel Sanctuary. Along with the full-color, full-page illustrations, Lost Angel presents highly detailed character and series information indexed to help fans navigate the knotty Angel Sanctuary universe. In addition to all this, Kaori Yuki sits down for a nine-page interview. Highly recommended for angels and devils!
She debuted in 1987 with Natsufuku no Erii (Jap: 夏服のエリー) on the manga anthology Bessatsu Hana to Yume published by Hakusensha. She is best known for her gothic manga works, such as the Earl Cain series (Jap: 伯爵カイン, Hakushaku Cain) and Angel Sanctuary (Jap: 天使禁猟区, Tenshi Kinryōku)
Her work is typically serialized in one of Hakusensha's two shōjo manga anthologies, Bessatsu Hana to Yume and Hana to Yume. In 2010, Kaori Yuki was one of many manga artists whose work would appear in the new shōjo manga anthology Aria by the publisher Kodansha on July 28, 2010. Her doujinshi-ka name is MoonClock.
The second art book of Angel Sanctuary is another beautiful collection of illustrations, though not quite as nice as the first. It has fewer illustrations than the first but has some character information instead. Some artworks are from the earlier volumes of the series, but the majority is of the later ones and can probably be more appreciated after having read the entire story - otherwise, you might end up finding spoilers.
The main reason I like this one a little less than the first is that several of the works include mechanical motives which I'm not really a fan of. There are also some illustrations where Kaori Yuki goes for a more realistic style showing details such as the creases on lips - I just simply don't like that for manga art. Those, of course, are all personal preferences and it is still a great addition to any manga collection or Angel Sanctuary fan.
I'm a fan of Kaori Yuki's art style so I found this to be a bit light on the art, but it has tons of information on characters, settings, and the story arc if you're a fan of Lost Angel.
This book covers various illustrations from Angel Sanctuary as well as information about the series such as original character designs and development and bits Yuki removed from the original drafts such as the Angel of Yoke and Sakaki. The art is beautifully drawn and If you love Angel Sanctuary, you will probably love Angel Sanctuary:Lost Angel.
This art book feature amazing art work of Setsuna and the other Angel Sanctuary characters, a profile section/information of the characters' backstories, concept art, characters who never made it to the finished manga and a exclusive interview with Kaori Yuki.
A feast for the hungry and thirsty Japanese art lovers!
To get a hold of this jem is quite a little miracle for me, after almost 20 years trying to acquire it! (Yes, 20 years – let’s say I was a little too young to be diving headfirst into Yuki-sama’s twisted world.)
I can’t put the blame on pure nostalgia – up to this day, there’s no other mangaka as Kaori Yuki for me! Not only her art is breathtakingly gorgeous, but also the characters, their development, the storytelling are equally as mesmerizing and complex.
She definitely has that gift – to coin the twists and turns that play on the readers’s most delicate strings. Her stories are alluring: both frightful and captivating, beautiful and cruel, heart-breaking, but funny, profound – and absurd – at places. And all that just proves to be the perfect mix for my little disturbed soul!
