Thank you to Annie Anderson for an Arc of this book in exchange for an honest review.

This is the last book in the grave talker series. BOOK 7! Can you even believe it? Darby's story has finally concluded in this epic book!

The story continues with Darby and her wildlife. Darby is a detective who can see ghosts ( Hi Hildy 👋 🤣). Darby is done with the bs that has become her life. It's a series of unfortunate and horrible turn of events that just keep coming. The twists and turns in this entire series will leave you reeling.

I love Annie Anderson's writing style. She just knows how to write an epic story that is highly entertaining and suspenseful.

Darby has to be one of my favourite characters of all time. She's snarky, witty, foul-mouthed, badass, and overall Queen. The side characters in this are perfection, Hildy and Jay are just some of my favourites that come in throughout this series. There is such an array of characters that stole my heart!

“Dead Buried” is the seventh and final instalment in the “Grave Talker Series” by Annie Anderson, a fantastic, original, good, solid, classic urban fantasy, that has followed Darby Adler and ex-cop and very relatable, witty, somehow hangry character, with an unending love for coffee, who gets thrown in the middle of a carefully crafted urban fantasy world, and manages to keep her cool (or hot depending on the pov) in even the most outrageous situation. Her very special necromancy gift, brought her to the attention of the ABI (Arcane Bureau of Investigation), put her in jail and eventually even got her a job as Warden of Knoxville, just before reaching the end of her rope on her last adventure (Dead Wrong). But this all in the past, now Darcy has ‘different’ problems, which are make even worse by the fact that the ‘old ones’ give getting in the middle.

A wonderful closure to this very entertaining series. Well-written story, full of interesting plots, unexpected twists, and situations aimed to an adult readership. Thus, one last time: turn the cell on silent and prepare to sacrifice your beauty sleep once more, because – as usually when it comes to Darby – it will sheer impossible to stop ‘watching’ the plot unfold; and while you’re at it grab your beverage of choice and some snacks 😉.

Ehh…. How do I explain this rating? Well… at the first of the book the author warns the reader that the book contains effluent situations with cursing, sex, heartbreak, corruptions, love etc. etc. etc. Then, it seems she sets out to prove the first two with a vengeance. So much so that it honestly reminded me of a teenager who goes bat-crap overboard trying to prove to people they’re tough by using every curse word available in every sentence while going into extreme detail touting their sexual exploits. At which point everyone in the area (me) just rolls their eyes, knowing the kid is trying WAY too hard to prove something that’s not all that important.

As the story progresses, however, the author ahem… character settles down and forgets they’re trying to impress and in doing so actually becomes a great and enjoyable friend. The cursing et all doesn’t go away but it does calm down to manageable levels that don’t sound ridiculous so the reader can actually enjoy the story. At that point, it gets back to what made us love the series in the first place, and that is Darby, her crazy friends and all the trouble they get into and out of!

Good

Darby’s story comes to an explosive conclusion in this book, as she begins the search to stop-and preferably kill- Bishop LaRoux.

So much happens in this book, but it can be simply summarized by the sentence above. We see all our favourite characters from the series, and some from Sloane’s series, with a number of happy endings suggested.
The story is action packed, as Darby and Aemon try desperately to find Bishop and stop his reign of terror, the fast pace keeping the reader on edge the whole time (yes I did have to stop and breathe a few times!)

This has been a fabulous series, and I was very happy with the ending, despite the huge curveball the author threw at us regarding Bishop! It was well done though, if insidious, and may warrant a re-read knowing what we now know.

A fantastic series which ends on a Big Bang- well worth the read for the urban fantasy fan, and anyone who has enjoyed the series so far.

Oh wow, I was worried I would need a refresher. But nope, the way the author wrote the characters, it didn't take long for my memory to resurface and their different traits to come back.

This is the last book in the series. And I was sad to finish it. I forgot how much a bad arse Darby and Slone were...are!
But it all came slamming back into mind. All the bad and good they went through.

Slone makes a few appearances. After all, it's no longer about her world, but she has a part to play as death or sister.. read to find out!

The world build is still standing strong, and the characters have racing through all the emotions. Joy, fear, anger, hot hot hot, fury, frustration!!! And more!!!!

Spice level is lovely and hot, with massages if smut in the Spice to keep things flaming.

It's a great book and series, with fierce, strong, sassy, scary FMCs. The MCs besides our hated Bishop, the magical gaslighting arse&%£&£*!!! Well, they are sweet even when they try to be fierce 😉

How can I write a review without spoilers?

This is the last book of the series (but not the last series from this magnificent world!). Have you been waiting for the awesomeness that is Darby? Now it's here!

I highly recommend this book to everyone! If you haven't read the previous ones, you should, because you are in for one hell of a journey.

Magic, power, vampires, shifters, witches, Death (who is a great lady, by the way), hot-as-hell demon... We see it all again in this book.

Darby is so tired of being betrayed, the cares about her extended family so much that she's willing to sacrifice everything to get it over with.

I have cried while reading this book. My heart was nearly broken in some parts. It's amazing how wonderful and touching the characters and the events are.

I loved this story and I think it has an ending we were all hoping for.

This had me smiling before the story even started with the Dear Readers introduction lol.
I just had to drop everything and read this as soon as I saw it.
And it was worth it do much!
Darby again is fighting to save her family and the world even though they don't know it.
But you just wait and see who she finally falls for...please, like he was even going to give her a chance to say no lol.
I absolutely loved this story and series and the ending was perfect.

So, this is the final book in the Grave Talker series and oh my freaking goodness it did not disappoint. I mean Annie Anderson never disappoints. But wow what a freaking bang!!

Darby is a riot. I love her. She is legit one of those strong and sassy heroines that stays that way from the beginning to end. She doesn’t change into some wilting flower. She just gets better and better as the series goes on.

She has been through so freaking much from day one. It’s nuts how much one woman can go through and the hits keep coming in this book. But she’s just like ok, ok, well this seems to be on par for my life but I have to keep my people safe so let’s just keep going and pretty much never takes her gloves off.

And oh Aemon…just wow! What a Prince of Hell. The chemistry between him and Darby is awesome! The banter is even better. But even though all the craziness that happened there’s that something there and you straight up feel it. Yeah, he just shines in his demon way in this book.

I can’t even begin to say how much I wanted to punch Bishop in the face, like time and time again throughout the whole series. But I swear to fates this was on another level, oh there are so many choice words I have for him during this book. I swear you didn’t think he could get worse and then BAM, he does.

I love seeing all my favorite side characters in this book. Man some parts hit you so hard to where you’re freaking out with some of them. You really won’t want to put this book down until you finish it.

I highly recommend this entire series! But this book just blew me away. I couldn’t have asked for a better ending to Darby’s story.

I didn't want it to end

And at the same time I couldn't put it down to know Bishop's final moments.

I looove Darby and Aemon, their a beautiful couple and I'm soo happy they got their Happy Ending.

I'm happy we got good closure, we got to see all our amazing characters. Got a little worried there for a minute about Hildy but it all work out in the end. Can't believe it was the last one but I do understand and I'm happy with the outcome.

And to think I thought I had a bad ex! Darby has the ex from Hell, though maybe not literally.
This book is intense from beginning to end; satisfying, amusing, and emotional. It is a series that will stay on my "to be read" or would that be re-read, list.

wonderful conclusion to the series

I loved how the series was resolved. Darby and Aemon belong together and finally Bishop’s reign of terror is ended. I hope Darby, Jay, Sloane and company have cameos in the next series happening.

While Darby is enjoying a very special beach, I'll take you on a journey through the very last pages of the Grave Talker series. Yes, all good things come to an end, and I'm here to tell you if it really wàs that good.

It was a disappointment to me and many others that the Soul Reader Trilogy- very intertwined with Grave Talker, was just that; a trilogy. A tiny plaster on the wound was that those mere 3 books got a sprinkle of an extension in the rest of Darby Adler's story. And that happens in Dead & Buried as well.

How could it not, with Darby having to go after her murderous psycho ex (can we really call him that though? Now that we know...) and as a result being in constant danger herself, as well as her friends lives threatened at every turn. Having an Angel of Death as a sister comes in really handy then...

Though the Nightwatch & reaper action has been far less than the Warden of Knoxville might've hoped, especially when little sis didn't turn up in the last chapter of the previous book. As a result Darby had to endure horrific torture at the hands of Nero, under the gleeful eye of power-hungry Bishop. Not to mention the fact that most of Nero's creepy vamp kids and their daddy dearest were only killed due to a Grave Talker turned chaos witch - thx Shiloh - and the triple Prince of Hell assistance. It wasn't until grandma LaRoux, Lise the Council president, wanted to punish Darby in her place for not sending Aemon (and his two brothers. Can we get a spin-off, please? ) back to hell that Sloane came to the rescue. With Darby's reputation safe, the ABI back to working order, the Princes bound to their current bodies, a wicked witch punished severely for having a hand in all the murders and Bishop's and Nero's atrocities - and you being caught up again -, the Warden goes back to Mission numero uno: Bishop's head on a platter.

Only this time (yes, we've entered Dead & Buried) she has a rather delicious and hot - as hell, yes - partner in crime. Aemon will be her shadow, her right hand, her rock, and...if she can truly open her heart again and trust; he'll be her everything.

The last Grave Talker book really focuses on just those two things: finding Bishop and ending his reign of terror for good + a potential love life with Aemon. How Darby overcame her trauma and the idea that "everyone she cares about leaves anyway", that's for me to already know and for you to find out.

One thing's for sure: despite her new chaos-witchy powers, our main character wouldn't have reached her ultimate, deadly goal without Aemon. Prince of Hell might sound evil, but if there's anything we've learnt from the Grave Talker series: someone's job title doesn't say much about their character. He's the one who calms the chaos inside Darby, both mentally and witchy. He's the one that gives her moments of necessary relaxation, also bringing the duo closer. And he's the one to seek out contacts who might know where Bishop is hiding, and who helps (together with - tada, finally - the Night Watch) fight for the lives of her friends when they're sneakily attacked at every turn by Bishop's powerful Blood Magic. Each attack being more revolting and hateful than the other.

It's eventually Darby trying to overcome her traumatic experiences in the caves (remember the zombies?) that also help her realise how to get to the hated Blood Mage. But by that time it looks as if it is too late and Bishop's final attack also means Darby's last breath. There's only one person who can save her now... but it comes with consequences Darby might not be able to face.

Annie Anderson wouldn't let her ghost whisperer-witch choose the Elysian fields with a psycho on the loose, so you probably guessed it already. She goes for Door 1: a different kind of life.

After nearly escaping death for the gazillionth time, the Angel of Death finally comes through. Fortified by the itty bitty help Fate allowed Sloane, Darby's on the move again for the final smackdown between Koo Koo La Roux and our Grave Talker-Witch. When Bishop sees her alive and... well, standing, you'll come to the realisation in what horror-fantasy this possessive creep has actually been living.

With Darby using Sloane's contribution in every possible way, fate is altered enough to eventually secure a different outcome than the very sad one initially expected. And a final "middle finger up" to Fate makes sure not just two lives, but also that of a VIP ghost are saved. All's well that ends well. Seeing as Dead & Buried ends with sun-bathing sans UV- damage, "well" is absolutely the right word to use (does anyone have Persephone's number for me?).

Grave Talker isn't the best book of the 7, but it's still a solid 7.5/10, coming up to 4 stars. Like all its predecessors it's well written, fast-paced, full of action and a large dose of anguish for our heroine. Only in this case we have a Darby who can no longer compartmentalise her grief and traumatic experiences. Working through it is necessary to come to the conclusion of the series.

The reason I'm not throwing around an extra star, is because several things seemed a bit repetitive, and for me a tad predictable as well. That wasn't the case in earlier books. I guess the fact the focus was small and the end in a way expected, made for less of a rollercoaster-story. That the happy ending involved a royal "stick it" FU to the main psycho of the series is something I can wholeheartedly support though.

I initially thought the new love story was a little too soon and going too fast, but having reread books #5 and #6 before finishing Dead & Buried it somehow didn't seem that hasty after all. What's more, by involving Darby's trust issues and trauma in a good way, and Aemon's very consistent behaviour, Anderson made it seem genuine.

Despite predictability and all that, I still had moments with "the feels" (angry, sad, happy) and of course I enjoyed this final installment of the Grave Talker Saga - or you would've seen something below 4 stars. It is just that Annie Anderson is a fab writer who has shown she can do even better and earn herself a topscore.

In the case of Dead & Buried it seemed she did what was expected of her. Finish the series: clean up loose ends, give the bad guys their just deserts, let Darby overcome & win, happy ending, bye. Nothing more, nothing less.
Still, a must- read for all Grave Talker fans who stuck with Darby till now. At the very least you want to know how a Grave Talker vacations, right?

This was the final full book based on the wildly wonderful Darby Adler and her rag tag group of friends, family, and allies. I laughed, I cried, I even swooned a time or two!

I’m so happy with how this story played out I’m not even sure I can put it into words, but I’ll give it a go.

From book 1 we have watched Darby grow as a character. Who she is on the first page of book 1 is so SO far from who she is on the last page of book 7. I think this of what makes the story so good! Darby is real to us because she changes and grows!

I think my favorite part of all of Annie’s books is that she has the perfect balance of spice, snark, and enough reality to make it relatable to most people. If you want a great series to binge, this is it! I’ve read most of this series several times, this book will be no exception.

Don’t miss the audio book when it’s released either! The narrator for this series, and all of Annie’s books, is absolutely amazing. She doesn’t read you the book, she tells you the story! Best narrator I’ve heard in almost 200 Audible book purchases. Run, don’t walk, to buy it!

The ending is exactly what we all would want for Darby, but everything that happens before the end is an absolutely wild ride! Annie Anderson does not know how to disappoint! Action, romance, danger, but most importantly snark! Oh how I’ll miss that Darby snark! Or maybe not, if you “read between the lines” I think we’ll be seeing Darby in upcoming stories that have yet to be told. 😉

I see many more stories in the future with appearances by all of our favorite Annie characters coming in the future, hopefully for an extremely long time! 🤞🏻 The World she has built for all of them is absolutely fantastic.

Thank you Annie for sharing this character and her adventures, it has been amazing to read it all! Can’t wait for the next story you tell!.

Dead and Buried - the Grave Talker Series Book 7 - Review

Couple: Darby Adler & Aemon

Author: Annie Anderson

Tropes: thriller, PNR, ghost romance, mystery, lover-enemy, demon romance

Review: The end of an era...Book 7 is short and epic. Even though this is the shortest book in the series by a lot, it ties up all the things we want to know and then leaves us with a twist that will open up to the two spin off series that take place after this series.

Book 7 takes up to the final battle with Bishop and Darby. Darby grows into all her power…and she has A LOT. We see her learn to harness it and step up to protect the supernatural in Haunted Peak and Knoxville together. All the friends and ties she made in previous book are put to the test in this book when she embarks on a journey to hunt Bishop with Aemon.

Their hunt takes them all over the place and ends up with them fighting enemies and helping Ingrid with her tragic past. It takes Darby to the Night Watch again and we learn how much Bastian’s influence is when they are reverent to her. It also takes us to Aemon’s home.

Their relationship takes off in this book after Aemon shows her just how much he likes and loves Darby and her matter self. The couple becomes stronger together once they air out all the dirty laundry and Aemon shows Darby that she can lean on him.

The epic battle scene between the three of them was also swoon worthy. Aemon could take it into his own hands but knows that Darby needs the retribution after all the deception Bishop put her through. I felt like this book brought everything together and I loved seeing Sarina again.

Rating: 100/10, a great series ender and bittersweet to say goodbye

Darby and the crews last book, and what a book it was! This is the conclusion to the Grave Talker series that began with Dead to me. If you haven’t read the rest of the series start with that one, you can thank me later!

So, Darby is still recovering from the shenanigans in Dead Wrong and trying to convince herself that one of the princes of hell stopping by just to see how she is, is nothing unusual (the chemistry between Darby and Aemon is just beautiful!)
Bishop is in the wind but still managing to cause death and destruction and It’s up to Darby to find him when starts targeting the people she loves.

The story is fast paced and beautifully written and I wanted to just sink into it and not come out. It is a tough read in places (there are warnings for a reason) but it also just made me smile. As a finale it was the perfect mix of plot and catching up with old characters from this series and the crossover series Soul Reader. A few surprises and a few ‘Oh, about time people’ just added to the feeling of completeness in this book.

Triggers- Lots! There is a warning on the first page, take it seriously, Annie does not mess about in this book.
Nothing too major in the language and sex department either so all good if that’s not your cup of tea.

When I first began on my journey in the Grave Walker series I was very impressed and excited. Then it slowly started to dissolve into something I no longer recognized. “dead and Buried” is the final book in the series and quite honestly, I am glad. I just don’t seem to care for the characters anymore.

With that being, Darby is on the hunt to track down and destroy her ex lover, Bishop. He has betrayed her in the worse possible way, hurt those she loves and taunts her whenever possible before he disappears once again. It’s difficult for Darby to want to trust anyone but she needs someone and Aemon seems to fit that bill. Together they embark upon journey to end Bishop. The question is will they be successful before all that Darby holds dear is snatched away from her?

This installment wraps things up nicely making sure to tie up loose ends. It wasn’t fabulous but it wasn’t bad either. Just a basic “3 stars” out if 5. Now, if I find a new series that can consistently keep me interested I will be happy.

Hearing it was the last book for Darby made me so sad but reading it just makes the reader realize that Annie Anderson knows how her character should go out.
There was so many different emotions for Darby and Aemon to go through and feel and it made this the best Darby Adler read. I felt like crying shoot I did cry and laugh so many times that I felt like I was watching a movie with this book. That was a actual thought that I had while reading this book that this would make a excellent movie.
This book also left room for future stories with other characters that have been in the arcane world with Darby that I was looking forward to seeing and maybe will see some more of in the future.
The perfect ending for a perfect strong woman character and all those who supported her in this last book written by a talented strong woman author.

This was the book I liked the best out of the whole series. It kept me on the edge of my seat wondering what was gonna happen next. Some of it was repetitive. Things that had already happened. The attacks on the Dubois nest, the Warden House, the Night Watch house, and Jay and Jimmy. Now the ones on Jay and Jimmy I don't think could have been avoided because that was needed to get Darby moving in the right direction. But the rest of it? I really wished the author had chosen another way. It was just a bit repetitive and seemed to be more for shock factor then anything else.

I did find myself liking Darby a little more in this book versus all the others. That was a plus. I can't say that I really like her character, but I don't hate her either. I loved everything about Aemon! Really need more stories with him in it. Darby not so much, but definitely more Aemon! Also more of Jimmy, and Jay.

This is the seventh and final book in this series. But never fear there are more books coming in the Arcane Souls world. Darby and beyond tired of not being able to figure out where Bishop has gone. Aemon a prince of hell is helping her. There is more there between them. But, how could anything come of it after what Bishop did. Aemon and Darby are about to go on a wild ride. They finally catch a break on where Bishop maybe hiding. But, not before Bishop begins attacking everyone Darby loves. I loved reading more about Darby and that she has finally found her soul mate. Aemon is a perfect match for Darby. He wants to protect and be there for her but not stop her from protecting herself. He just wants to be there for her. They are a perfect match for each other. I can’t wait to read the next series in this world. Fantastic job once again Annie.

I was sooooooooo excited to see Darby Adler back again! I always love Annie's books and every series of hers I have read. Darby is determined to put a stop to Bishop's evil and preferably end him. We get to see our favorite characters and some from Darby's sister Sloane's books. Darby is as always her hangry, coffee addict, sassy, butt-kicking self. You would think that everyone would have learned by now not to mess with her, but obviously they aren't very smart. Oh and the chemistry between Darby and Aemon, The Prince of Hell is off-the-charts! This is action packed and we get an ending that we all were hoping for. So sad to see the end but very happy their will be spin-off series. If you haven't started this series you need absolutely need to begin with book 1 - Dead To Me. You are in for a heck of a ride. The last installment of Darby Adler's story does not disappoint. This author has put Darby through so much in this series and she takes it all in true bad ass fashion. Loves, loss, betrayal, revenge. Darby takes hit after hit and keeps moving forward. This story kept me riveted. The supporting characters, some new ones, some old favorites, bring the humor and relief and annoyances to Darby that make you relish the entire book. I honestly did not want this to end, with the exception that poor Darby has been put through the wringer throughout this series.
Masterfully written, with humor, sadness, hurt, heat and loyalty like no other in these characters. I took my time reading this, savoring each step and watching the mystery unwind. It is with a bittersweet smile I say well done.

When her ex gets involved again, our heroine decides enough is enough. It is time to end this (and him) once and for all.

This is book seven of the series and its conclusion. This one really should be read in order for maximum effect.

This is an urban fantasy story with a heroine that can speak with the dead. The story is very well written and grabs your attention right out of the gate. I love our heroine who is tough and smart, my favorite kind. The characters and setting are also well done and get better with every new book. The plot moves at a good pace and this one is particularly busy as it draws things to a close. Overall, a great wrap up to the series and I look forward to seeing what our author comes up with next.

Highly recommended.

Okay, I fell for Aemon! Darby has her hands full with Bishop being a jerk, wreaking havoc all over the place. Aemon has a lead that takes them to Paris and into the catacombs which is Darby's nightmare come true. And its all part of Bishop playing her. Then Aemon's house gets destroyed and sets Darby on the warpath. Bishop is putting blood curses on family and friends while blowing things up everywhere and Darby gets sick of it. When J gets hit, that's it! She calls in the big guns and starts taking back control of the situation. Her sister lends a hand, or scythe rather, to get the job done and the end is nigh. A very satisfying ending!

I have enjoyed each of the books in this series featuring Darby Adler and her friends. I have to say that I am sorry that her adventures are coming to an end!

Darby is the Warden of Knoxville, but her main concern is finding and destroying her lying ex, Bishop La Roux. But, she can't seem to find him and none of her sources can find him, either. Darby has to go through Hell and back, but she is determined to destroy him at all costs! "Spite was a hell of a motivator, after all".

If you enjoy a tough, foul mouthed heroine, some incredibly sexy bedroom scenes and tons of supernatural creatures, you have come to the right place with this series and this amazing book.

I don't want to give any spoilers, but oh my goodness this was the best ending beyond what I expected for Darby. I love that she got an happily ever after that made sense for the character. I hope we get to see Darby and Sloane in future series in this universe because I'm just not ready to let these characters go yet. I love how relatable Darby is even with all her added powers. You feel her grief and her trust issues because of Bishop's betrayal and her inner thought process as she works through it all. Absolutely love Aemon he's perfect for Darby without being a cliche hero. Can't wait to see what Annie comes up with next!.
