Considering its conciseness, it's a good book for those who are new to C++11/14 features. The first chapters enable a reading that's not too dry, but still, it could focus a little more on the features of the language and a little less on its history.
A very high-level overview of what happened with C++ over the past years, but not much more. When reading this, expect an ode to C++ rather than a detailed overview of the new features.
It's a good book to get an overview of all the new changes being introduced in C++. Seems like Beast is definitely roaring again but it is not back yet. Future is unpredictable!!!
I got this as a promo a few years ago and just got around to reading it as part of an effort to systematically attack my insanely long reading backlog. This was bumped up to the front of the list primarily because it is on the shorter side. This monograph presents a clearly-written, concise history of the evolution of the C++ language and its resurgence to popularity after a brief period of waning interest in the first decade of the 2000s.
It's now slightly dated since it was published just prior to the C++17 standard update. However, it's still useful as a quick guide to newcomer to the C++ ecosystem as well as to those who have not used the language since before the regular updates to the standard every 3 years starting in 2011.
I don't see any major problems with it. I haven't tested all of the examples yet but they seem OK. I only give it 4 stars because I reserve 5 stars for the best of the best in my collection.
