Children will delight in learning about Irish folk tales, traditions, and customs in this brand-new Pictureback®!
It's St. Patrick's Day, and Jack Mouse is visiting his cousin Sean in Ireland. Sean tells Jack about the myth of leprechauns, and Jack is determined to catch one for himself!
I learned some Gaelic phrases: Cead Mile Failte means a hundred thousand welcomes. A Shillelagh is a stout oak club that a leprechaun carries to defend himself.
It's a cute St. Patty's Day story about catching that Leprechaun. The characters are Irish Mice and a cousin from America. This was late coming from the library.
The kids enjoyed this book. It's funny how children seem to relate any story better if it's an animal than a person in many cases.
This book was a recommendation for an extra lesson after we did our unit on Ireland and Europe. The kids learned some Gaelic words and some typical Irish traditions so it was a nice reading to enforce some already learned concepts. It was also fun to learn about leprechauns and St. Patrick's Day, something they remembered from us celebrating it this year. Overall a fun book, somewhere around a level 2 reading level.
Adorable! I especially loved the little explanations of Irish traditions in the story. You learned a little about the history without sacrificing the cute story. And the illustrations are so full of detail - I loved it!
Jack traveled to Ireland to visit his family for St. Patrick's Day. Once Jack had gotten to the house his aunt asked him to find three-leaved clovers the symbol of St. Patrick's Day. While Jack is out picking the clover's he hear's a "Tee-hee! Toe-ho-ho!" Jack turned around and there was a leprechaun. Once the leprechaun was spotted he took off running. Jack attempted to catch him and get his bucket of gold. But as soon as Jack crossed the wall the leprechaun was gone. Will Jack get to catch the leprechaun?
I would use this book in conjunction with a celebration of St. Patrick's day activities in a first grade classroom. I would tie the book in by having students do a writing where they make their plan on how they would catch a leprechaun.
Jack has been invited over to his cousin's house for St. Patrick's Day! His cousin, Sean tells him about Liam the Leprechaun, a tricky little leprechaun who if you catch him, will give you his pot of gold! Jack's aunt then asks him to pick shamrocks for the St. Patrick's Day party. While picking them, Jack spots Liam the Leprechaun! Will he catch him? I love these illustrations! They're so great and the mice are so cute! Follow @bronteandwilder on Instagram for more fun book recommendations!
A nice edition to our St Patrick’s Day basket. Would be fun to create some Gaelic vocabulary words to pair with this book as well as a recording of Danny Boy.
