Not all books are read for their artistic literary or abstract ideas. I wonder, why there are fewer reviews on this book. I think, the author had a remarkable story to tell and she narrated it beautifully, weaving it with her own views about politics and such. I was shockingly impressed with the dedication and unwavering faith on her love and immense capacity to adapt. There are a lot to take and learn from this book If one is perceptive enough. Good Read

I want my time back. This disappointing memoir is full of telling rather than showing, and it reads like a poorly made documentary for high school history class. There might be an interesting story in there somewhere, but you'd never know it from the paragraph after paragraph of simplistic writing lacking dialogue or literary style. Deceivingly this book is neither unconventional nor is it extraordinary. Don't waste your time. I've wasted enough for all of us.

I found the subject matter of this memoir extremely interesting, but the execution of presenting the story was somewhat lacking. I wish this was told in a more cohesive and chronological way. It is rather disjointed and repetitive ... almost as if each chapter is an essay on different topics. I do feel like I learned quite a bit about Indonesia.
