immediately bought the book

It starts out with plain and delicious. Amish and Mennonite recipes are great on their own but they also always make an amazing base recipe. So buy this book!!

This was a productive cookbook. I saved 30+ recipes from it & am anxious to get started. I wish it was more than me to cook for. I left all my taste testers back in Georgia, haha.
I have some issues but they were big enough to prevent me from giving this more than 3 stars.

1) There is no index. There might be in a paper edition but the Kindle does not.
2) No servings are provided. It's a given that a pie serves 8. Well, that is if my dad isn't cutting it. If he's cutting it serves 4-6. Casseroles, for example. Does this recipe serve 6? 8? 10?
3) Sizes of baking dishes aren't always provided. Not so bad for experienced cooks buts newbies might have some trouble.

Overall I think this is worth the investment.

Very basic instructions like put into a square or rectangular pan, what size? Lists Clear Jel as an ingredient which one, cook type or instant? A peach pie with only 2 cups of sliced peaches🤔 peaches in a baked pie shell, what size? Substitutions, one is wrong, 1 square unsweetened chocolate is not just 3T cocoa powder you need to mix it with 1 tablespoon butter or oil.

People are fascinated with the Amish way of life. This cookbook not only features wonderful, economical dishes but also gives readers a glimpse into Amish living. The recipes in this book are ones that the author fed her family, including her three sons. Popcorn Birthday Cake, Funeral Pie, Shepherd's Pie, Rice Krispie Hamburger Bake, Calico Beans, Chicken Tetrazzini and Snitz and Knepp are just a few of the hundreds of recipes featured in this book. "Wunderbaar Gut."

I was given this for Christmas. It is not the kind of cookbook I normally play with but I thought i'd give it a try. Too many of the recipes included ingredients that are not staples in my house. Velveeta Cheese for example. The couple of recipes I did try were O.K. but nothing I will do again. Desserts make up about half the book. Several looked tempting but right now I don't really need another dessert. Still carrying to much of the holidays around.

The order of recipes is a little odd. They are arranged in alphabetical order within category. This puts things like Leftover turkey croquettes between Lasagna and Liver and vegetable skillet.

Recipes look good...just some typos

I am writing this in the hope that some corrections would be made. I looked through the recipes and they look amazing! However, sometimes important numbers are missing. Several times either the amount of an ingredient, the oven temp or how long it is cooked/baked is missing and there is a dot there instead. Please fix this Ms. Varozza! Your recipes have my mouth watering :)

a few too many processed & canned (high sodium) recipe items for my taste but also quite a few wonderful scratch Dutch recipes. I enjoyed reading & seeing recipes I grew up consuming. Very easy recipes to adjust.

This book has yummy recipes. The Pear Pudding Cake was easy and yummy. I am making that one again. Some of the recipes were abit "modern" for what I thought Amish cooking was about. But, what do I know, I am not Amish...
