Can summer love survive amid mystery and mayhem?

When Abigail Greenwood and her cousins settle in for their annual summer retreat at the stunning and impressive Sagamore Resort in the Adirondacks, all she wants is to spend as much time as possible plunking out stories on her typewriter. But when her cousins insist she join them in the tradition of choosing a beau to adore from a distance during their stay, she reluctantly plays along, setting her sights on a mysteriously quiet and aloof guest. What started as harmless fun soon changes as Abby finds herself captivated by debonair—and handsome—Jackson Gable. Who is he, and why does his arrogant amused smile exasperate her so much?

When a series of events causing mayhem and mischief begin to occur at Sagamore, journalist Jackson Gable is determined to get to the bottom of it, since his father is an investor of the resort. Jack has a nose for mysteries, but he may have to use his recently earned law degree and some of his posh family connections to sleuth out the culprit. Are the events connected? Why are they happening? And why can’t he get the beautiful Abby off his mind?

2 stars, personally. No big content concerns and I think the cover is gorgeous, but I struggled so much with this book and the writing style.

(Side note: I can’t be the only one who hears the word “sagamore” and not know it, so my brain autocorrects it to "sycamore", and therefore I had the Sunday School class song go through my head the entire time I was reading this book. 🤪)

I really struggled with this book—but not due to any major content problems, because of the classic-style writing style this story was told in. It’s no secret that I’ve never been a classics fan and I would be very curious to see what those who do enjoy classics would think about this book. I found that there were way too many detailed added in that added very little to the plot, such as described of all the trees, her dresses, and the food everyone orders at the hotel. I frankly grew bored at times and had this book been longer, I probably would have marked it as a DNF, but because it was under 200 pages, I decided to stick with it.

There’s a handful of mentions of events that took place prior to this story starting that feel like it’s hints of prior books, but I don’t see that there are connecting books with these characters. On that note, some readers who are not Pentecostal may be uncomfortable with the mentions of a revival that the main characters went to prior to this book starting and the mentions of miracles that are said to have happen there.

We have more details about her clothing and attraction to him, and very little that made me cheery for them as a couple. I did find it a little annoying that she didn’t want to fall for him (yet was obviously doing so) but when he asked twice if he could kiss her, she said yes. I don’t understand how she had a good head on her shoulder for most of the book but didn’t realize that intimate action would affect her emotions/feelings towards him. (It doesn’t help that I really didn’t care for him because of some glimpses of pride/an attitude.)

Overall, I don’t have any major content concerns with this book, it was just a massive miss for me and not my cup of tea. I do think some readers will enjoy it (perhaps those who really enjoy Grace Livingston Hill’s books) and the writing style, but I was unfortunately not one of them.

I find the Gilded Age to be a fascinating era to read about, so I have been enjoying this new Christian historical romance series set in this time period. Author Lisa Prysock’s descriptions of the Sagamore Resort on Lake George, NY, made me feel like a visitor on site enjoying the amenities along with the characters. The yearly vacation game that Abby, her sister and cousin engage in proved to be most interesting, as first impressions might not always be what they seem. The unfolding mystery surrounding the mishaps occurring at the Sagamore kept me turning pages along with the blossoming romance between Abby and Jack, who are both writers. I liked how the personal faith of the main characters was openly discussed and lived out through their actions. This was a quick and very enjoyable read from a new-to-me author that took me to a fascinating time and place as an armchair traveler.

I received an advanced reader copy from the publisher and BookFunnel via Celebrate Lit Bloggers and Reviewers. I was not required to write a positive review and all opinions expressed here are mine alone.

A charming story which appears to be a summer romance so you fallow couples as they indroduce themselves and start to do things together. But the author throws you a curve ball and a mystery ensues! Adding to the charm of one of the couples.

Throughout this story it’s sprinkle with “life’s lessons “ lessons from the Bible, and what Jesus taught. Just enough to bring attention to it to the reader but not so much as “in your face”. I personally love the way this author mixed it within.

There is also a message of if a friend drifts away from you and down a bad road. You don’t have to blame yourself for “not being there”. Often to many close friends blame themselves for the acts of the other. The message in this story was very nice!

Each chapter ( as in all this authors books) starts with a scripture or a quote adding to the chapter. A nice addition.

This was a wonderful “has a little of everything “ in it romance story. It keeps the readers attention and you don’t want to put the book down. Very nicely done!

“Something is amiss at the Sagamore...”
This is an intriguing story of summer courtships surrounded by mysterious goings on at the Sagamore Resort in the beautiful Adirondack Mountains in 1907. A well-structured plot that flows at a steady pace, engaging characters, and a strong faith element combine to make an appealing, entertaining read. As in her previous books, I appreciate the scripture verses and apropos quotes the author includes at the beginning of each chapter that add interest and inspiration. I enjoyed this short yet satisfying read and recommend it especially for fans of historical romance. Note: This is the second book in the Romance at the Gilded Age Resorts but can be easily read as a standalone.

A Summer at Sagamore is a sweet read. I enjoyed the historic and luxurious atmosphere the Sagamore offers, as well as the elements of mystery, faith, and romance.

Abigail and Jack are interesting and easy to connect with and root for. I enjoyed witnessing their relationship progress. The fact that they are writers is a plus because, for whatever reason, I adore characters who are readers, writers, or own bookstore owners. I found Abigail’s faithfulness and reliance on God, as well as her grandmother’s, so inspiring.

The author incorporates humor, adventure, and mystery very well, and the threads of family traditions, spiritual faith, and romantic love make this story all the more special.

First Line: At the beginning of every summer, Abby thought the world lay at her feet.

This is my voluntary review of a copy I received from the publisher.

The characters were well done, kind and intelligent, but with some flaws. The mystery was well done, too. There were clues and reasonable suspects to follow. It all came together satisfactorily for this reader.

What fun!

Delightful read. I was very intrigued by the premise of this series, Romance at the Gilded Age Resorts. Definitely adding some of these resorts to my list. With well-researched historical detail and beautiful prose, Ms. Prysock brings to life the setting and the easy atmosphere of the resort.

When Abigail and her family arrive at the historic Sagamore for their summer holiday, she finds more than just a summer romance awaits. Abby and Jack combine their efforts to solve a mystery. While predictable, I loved reading the way their relationship developed to the expected happy ending. Ms. Prysock expertly weaves a faith thread through her story in a way that is not overwhelming but quite realistic for her characters. I highly recommend for a sweet fictional escape to a bygone era.

This was a good story with a great setting. I enjoyed visiting the Sagamore Resort in the beautiful Adirondack Mountains in 1907. Just when you think this is going to be a sweet romance the author throws you a twist with a mystery.

I really enjoyed that this author had the storyline filled with lessons from the Bible and it is mixed in a way that truly flows with the story. It never feels forced or preachy which is a gift for authors to capture.

The main characters of Abby and Jack were great in the story and kept you smiling as you saw their growth throughout the story.

Overall I thought this was a great story and despite it being part of a series I felt like it read great a stand alone. If you enjoy Christian Historical Fiction I definitely recommend you grab these books!

I received a copy of this book for review. I was not required to post a positive review. All views expressed are only my honest opinion.

If you enjoy stories about wealthy families during the Gilded Age, this one’s for you. Prysock writes as if she lived in their midst, with great attention to details of dress, food, and the setting.
Abby Greenwood, her sister, and a cousin accompany their grandmother to Sagamore, a resort frequented by the wealthy. They meet Jack Gable, a journalist to whom Abby is attracted.
A unique twist was having the heroine, Abby Greenwood, describing and writing about the Azusa revival, which she had recently attended. There are also some mysterious things happening at the resort, which serve to throw Abby and Jack together. As they work to solve the mystery, they develop a romantic relationship.

Lisa Prysock has written another intriguing, inspirational, and picturesque novel of a beautiful place where the wealthy people go to enjoy their summers in the early 1900’s called Sagamore. I love to read about this era and the colorful characters in the book are so much fun to get to know and love. I especially loved the main heroine, Abigail Rose Greenwood, or Abby, as she’s called throughout the book, as she strives to keep herself in the Lord’s will for her life. This was truly HER summer at Sagamore, where she met the handsome, wealthy, debonair, and unflappable Jackson Gable. Although Jackson had graduated with a law degree from Harvard, (to please his father and to be able to take care of the family’s many businesses legal matters) he and Abby found out they both were aspiring authors. Of course, Abby’s Gran had taken Abby, her younger sister, and their cousin, on a summer trip every summer for several years now and all of the girls were hoping this would be “HER” year to find their love of a lifetime, although Abby would be happy to finish writing her book! The previous summer they had gone to the Azusa Mission in Los Angeles, where they had witnessed miracles, such as a man’s arm grow back-first the bone, then sinew, tendon, veins, and skin!! All of them had had a life altering impact that summer in their relationship with their Savior! Now, Abby was in the process of writing her book about that summer calling her book, “Azusa”! The adventures never end, as you can imagine, with three single girls, and a selection of rich, handsome men, every which way you turned. There was swimming, boating, horseback riding, tennis, picnics, dances, and delectable meals at every time of day. Then, there were the mysterious occurrences that were happening a little too often to be accidental…Abby (aka Watson) had great instincts about who the perpetrator of these crimes was, but Jack (aka Sherlock) vehemently disagreed with her…until he saw the light! I can’t tell you any more about this delicious story without ruining it for you, and you know I will never do that! So, buy this wonderful book for yourself and treat yourself to a very fast paced, scripture filled, uplifting book with all of the craziness of three young ladies and their beaus and their loving Gran! You must to find out if any of them find their Prince Charming or love of a lifetime! You’ll be glad you did! I received a copy of this book. The opinion is my own. ♥️♥️♥️

I truly enjoy Christian Historical Romance Books and I also like reading books that are part of a series. A Summer at Sagamore by Lisa M.
Prysock is Book 2 in the Romance at the Gilded Age Resorts series. The series is written by Various Authors and I had the pleasure of reading Book 1 and now Book 2 in this series.

The Setting is 1907 in the Adirondack Mountains. Abigail Greenwood LOVES the Annual Summer Retreat she goes on with her cousins. They have arrived at the Sagamore Resort in the Adirondacks and Abigail is looking forward to getting some stories done on her Typewriter during the Retreat. Abby's cousin eventually encourages her to play their annual game of "Adore the Beau", choosing a guy to adore from a distance. Abby chooses handsome Jackson Gable, a local journalist whose father also owns part of the Resort. Abby soon finds she really wants to get to know Jackson, as even from a distance she is falling for him. Jackson Gable is bewildered by recent happenings at the Resort and he decides he needs to figure out what is going on. He is a journalist so "sleuthing out the story" comes naturally for him, he just needs to "connect the happenings" to find the person or persons responsible for the mischief at the Resort. He also has met Abby and now he is wondering why he can't stop thinking about her. Will Jackson discover who is creating mischief at the Resort? Will there be a romance between Abby and Jackson?

WOW, the storyline grabbed my attention right away and I kept reading until I was finished! I LOVE how Abby and her cousins have Summer Traditions. The Era of the book, the early 1900s is also a favorite of mine. Jackson is a GREAT character in the book and I really enjoyed reading how his sleuthing skills. The book is filled with Faith, Mystery, Family, and Romance. I believe the author has done a GREAT job of connecting the characters and the book flows smoothly. FANTASTIC BOOK!

A beautiful story that captures the time period with grace, romance and a hint of romance. I loved following Abby and her family on vacation as they spend the summer at a resort. The description of the resort sounded wonderful and the perfect place to relax and perhaps find romance. With vivid details of the dresses worn, I could imagine how elegant the women looked as they went to different activities. Abby loves being at the resort but she also wants to concentrate on her writing. Will someone draw her attention away from her typewriter?

Jack is a dashing gentleman who captures Abby’s attention right away. I thought it was funny to see Abby try to not look interested but alas she was smitten with Jack. Their time together is spent having picnics, horseback riding and attending dances that are festive. I was rooting for Jack to win Abby’s heart and loved how respectful he was towards her.

The author puts in a delightful mystery as sabotage soon takes over at the resort. Guests are treated to a soup laced with too much salt, a break in at one of the guests rooms and a mishap with a saddle that could have caused someone to be critically injured. Jack and Abbey decide they must work together to solve the mystery before something tragic happens. The pair sort out clues and begin to also develop feelings for each other as well. The faith that was evident in the story brought peace and wisdom to our characters.

I loved how the mystery was solved and adored the ending. This book has been a joy to read and I look forward to the next in this delightful series.

I received a copy of this book from Celebrate Lit. The review is my own opinion.

This story was like a gentle, flowing river. The pace was smooth and gentle too. I love to read books like this. Of course, I like face-paced books at times but it's very enjoyable to read books like these too. Since it is set in the early 1900's, the pace of the book fits the times. The wealthy vacation for the summer. Seems inconceivable to me, however, that's what a lot of them do! The Sagamore resort is in the Adirondacks and Abby has gone there with her grandmother, sister and cousins. The girls always have a "game" of choosing a man to set their sights on for the summer. Abby is a writer and wants to write during the summer. She doesn't want to choose a man but does just to join in but won't follow through! However, when she chooses Jackson, she thinks he is a "rake" and wants to observe him from afar, nothing more. It was so interesting to see what the wealthy did at that time and how people lived then. The author was very descriptive! As the young people do more activities together, they realize, something is amiss at the Sagamore! There is a mystery going on! Abby and Jackson decide to solve it. I very much enjoyed the characters, the writing, the setting and the mystery! A delightful book!

I was excited to read another book in the Gilded Age Resorts series. (The books are not tied together in any way other than they take place at resorts during the Gilded Age) I also liked the fact that Abby was an author. Right from the beginning, I felt like I was missing something with the repeated reference to Asuza. I thought maybe it was from a different one of her books, but when I looked, nothing seemed to fit. Then Abby mentioned it as a revival, so I googled it and found the reference to a historical event. It was almost as if the author expected that everyone would know what she was talking about. But as a denomination other than Pentecostal, I had never heard of it before. I also was a little uncomfortable with the so called miracles that Abby said happened at this event. I would rather not read a book that is so far apart from my own religious beliefs. I would have liked to have felt more like I was in the setting. We did get descriptions of every single dress that Abby changed into which I didn't care about. I look forward to reading more books in this series, though.

I got a free copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own and given voluntarily. No compensation was received for my review.

What a fun and unique story! I love historical fiction novels and I love visiting places of the past. This sounds like somewhere that I would love to visit! Can someone please provide me with a device that makes it so I can go into a story? I’d greatly appreciate it.

I loved getting to meet some new friends and watch them do life! In this book you’re going to meet Abby and Jack. Abby is off for a fun season with her female family members while Jack is there for business. When Abby is challenged to choose someone to crush on for the season she chooses Jack.

And let the adventures begin!

Then mystery begins! Things are happening that shouldn’t. Both Jack and Abby are writers. So of course, they have to solve the case! Let the fun begin!

This read quickly and I really enjoyed it. You’re going to love it too. I loved and read the first book in the series too though you don’t have to read them together if you don’t want.

I have voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book which I received through Celebrate Lit. All views expressed are only my honest opinion. I was not required to write a positive review nor was I compensated in any other way. All opinions expressed are my own. I am disclosing this in accordance with the FTC regulations.

A Summer at Sagamore by Lisa M. Prysock is a work of Historical Christian Romance. Perhaps mentioning one of my favorite authors and one of my favorite books made me appreciate this book. Or perhaps one of the main characters, an author, may have grabbed my attention. But I found myself unable to put this book down.

Abigail Greenwood, her grandmother, and several other female relatives come to the Sagamore Resort in the Adirondacks. The girls pick their favorite men among the men at the resort. Abigail finds herself unwillingly drawn into their plot. I loved how Lisa M. Prysock developed the relationships between the girls and those around them.

Jackson Gable, the man Abigail sets her sights on, provides the perfect male lead for this story. The way the author developed both characters and the storyline captivated me. I loved the mysterious events that occurred at the resort and how the author moved the story along. The setting and scenery descriptions provide the perfect backdrop for this story.

So if you enjoy works of Historical Christian Romance, check out A Summer at Sagamore by Lisa M. Prysock for yourself. I definitely recommend it.

I received a complimentary copy of this book, but this in no way influenced my review. All opinions are my own.

What could be better than getting away for the whole summer with your grandmother, sister, and cousin and at a beautiful resort in the Adirondacks? For Abigail Greenwood, this sounds like the idea writing place for her novel. Plenty of promised uninterrupted writing time, along with spending time with family. However, her sister and cousin are out for some matchmaking, so they set up a little game and wait and see what will come of it. For all of them.

All three pick their gentlemen to fantasize about and see what opportunities may arise in meeting them. Plenty do arise and all three girls get to spend time with their selected beaus. But something is going on at the resort, and undercurrent of malice. There are too many accidents and coincidences of bad stuff happening. It is possible someone could get seriously injured if Abby's and Jack, who Abby thought at first as a rake, don't get to the bottom of this mystery.

This was a delightfully refreshing summer novel in the Gilded Age with a romance, family, and mystery all together.

I was provided a copy of this novel from the publisher. I was not required to post a positive review and all views and opinions are my own.

MY THOUGHTS ON THIS ⁰
For their annual summer retreat, Abigail Greenwood and her cousins choose the Sagamore Resort in the Adirondacks. Staying with tradition, they all pick their favorite man for their stay. But just to look at and adore from a distance during their stay. Abby plays along, but her main task is staying at the typewriter and typing as many stories as she can. Her mystery man Jackson Gable, was becoming a little more than just wanting to look at though.

This was a great historical fiction story that I really enjoyed. The characters were fun and a delight to follow along with as they spent their time at the resort. Lisa M. Prysock does a fabulous job keeping my interest throughout the story. I didn’t want to stop reading until I finished the book. A Summer at Sagamore is getting Five Stars from me. If you enjoy a good clean historical fiction. This one is for you!!

A special thanks to the author/publisher for a copy of this book. I am not required to write a positive review, the opinions here are mine alone. I am disclosing this with my review in accordance with the Federal Trab731a3ff-pde Commission’s 16 CFR, Part 255.

Abigail Greenwood has a unique opportunity to accompany her grandmother, sister and cousin to the prestigious and luxurious Sagamore where they will spend the summer. I thought it unique that each of the girls chose a young man as someone who they’d like to be their summer boyfriend. Abigail chooses a young man named Jack Gable who she is attracted to, despite her first impression him.

Strange things begin to happen at Sagamore. Accidents begin to occur, rooms are ransacked, and food is made inedible. Abigail is an extremely curious person, and with the help of Jack, sets off to see who is creating havoc and why would they do such a thing. Seeing Abigail and Jack’s relationship grow as they uncover clues was really fun.

Abigail’s grandmother was one of my favorite characters. She was witty and wise and encouraged the girls in their faith. She was extremely supportive of each of them and was an example to them.

I never thought in a million years that this was a novel about thee "Sagamore". I lived in Albany, New York. I spent lots of time in Lake George, cruising on the steamboats. Passing millionaire row and the Sagamore. In fact my daughter had planned to marry at the Sagamore, their plans changed as they we transferred to Florida for their jobs.

The Sagamore is magical with beautiful suites and villas even a castle. its place to meet others from all over the world. Just as Abby, Elizabeth and Catherine did. As they arrived at the Sagamore for a summer vacation they befriend both females and males, to have adventures with. As friendships are made, love lurks around the corner, but so does evil.

So Pre-order your copy today so that on release day ,March 14th, you can go on an adventure as well. You will find friendships, romances, heartbreak and a little mystery and you won't be disappointed.

A Summer at Sagamore by Lisa Prysock is part of the series titled, Romance at the Gilded Age Resorts Book 2. This is a series with several different authors making contributions. Lisa Prysock is a newer to me author but I enjoyed her descriptive and easy to read style. Enough characters to feel like it takes place at the Sagamore Resort in the Adirondacks but not so many as to be confusing in keeping up with them all.

Abigail Greenwood is a wonderful character while her cousins are also if not as mature as Abigail. There is a mystery going on at the resort that Jackson Gable decides to get to the bottom of by solving. With Abby “Abigail” at his side they endeavor to do just that very thing. A charming romance follows. A lovely story with a faith-based perspective.

A wonderful romance/mystery read taking place over a hundred years ago.

The publisher Wild Hearts Books provided a digital ARC. I have voluntarily decided to read and review, giving my personal opinions and thoughts.

A Summer at Sagamore is the second installment and Lisa M Prysock’s contribution to the multi author series, Romance at the Gilded Age Resorts. Oh my goodness, what a wonderful addition it is. I adored Abigail’s story and found she had wonderful chemistry with Jackson. The two made a fabulous team as they try to solve the mystery. I enjoyed reading on to see what would happen from scene to scene. Not one that I could easily predict. I thought it was great.

I am giving A Summer at Sagamore five stars. I highly recommend it for readers who enjoy reading clean historical romance. I look forward to the third book from the Romance at the Gilded Age Resorts series, Sherri Wilson Johnson’s A Season at the Grand.

I received a paperback copy of A Summer at Sagamore from the publisher, but was not required to write a positive review. This review is one hundred percent my own honest opinion.

What at first appeared to be a lighthearted love story turned into a more serious novel than I expected. This fun story offers history, humor, suspense, and romance among other elements, providing a captivating tale that keeps readers guessing. Reading about the opulent life and accouterments of the wealthy during the Gilded Age may make readers think about their own lives and attitudes. And the importance of faith in the main character should inspire readers to make this an important part of their lives too. I also liked that the main couple were each writers, as I am, so that always adds enjoyment to fiction for me. And the sweet clues Jack shared with Abby near the end of the book are endearing. The drama should appeal to romance enthusiasts as well as those who enjoy historical fiction (especially with suspense). It could make a worthy read for a book club too. I received a copy from Celebrate Lit. All opinions are my own.

A Summer at Sagamore is written by Lisa M. Prysock. This story is set in the Gilded Age and is set in Sagamore Resort on Lake George, New York. The author did a great job describing scenes that you feel like you’re there watching it unfold.

Abigail Greenwood is at the Sagamore Resort with her cousins and grandmother. She wants to sit inside and work on her stories the whole time. Somehow her cousins bring her into the game of choosing a guy to look at all summer.

Jackson Gable is a journalist and Abigail has caught his eye. He also has a nose for mysteries and wants to try and find out who is behind all the chaos going on.

These two characters were a good match. I loved seeing their relationship grow throughout the story. I also love that they both loved to write. I loved getting to see the Sagamore Resort.

Thank you to the author, publisher and Celebrate Lit for allowing me to read a copy of this book. All thoughts are my own.
