The year is 1865. The Civil War between the states is raging on. General Sherman, along with over sixty thousand Union troops, has just forced their way into Columbia, South Carolina. By the time the sun rises the following day, Columbia would be in ruins. Three-quarters of the once-striving showcase of the South would be reduced to ashes. The pride of the South, the pride of the Confederacy, would never recover.
Wow! This had so much promise when it started but then fizzled into a sickly sweet ramble of love and God, which eventually died of boredom. I cannot believe the story of a North/South conspiracy involving president Lincoln could end up as a lovey dovey bore fest. Really disappointed !!!!
This is a decent read about the uncovering of a long lost Confederate treasure in the year of 1955. In the town of Mattersonville, Georgia, Michael Gibbes and Katie Windslow meet and instantly fall in love. In the ensuing days, Michael's sister, Melissa, and his friend, Rick, are joined together in a journey led by Katie's father to find this nearby treasure.
The first half of this book was very exciting with lots of twists and turns, and I mainly enjoyed reading that part. However, almost the entire last half of the book was pretty flat and boring with the plot not going to far anywhere. The ending of the book was a good conclusion bringing closure to the story, so that did ultimately make up some for the pitfalls of the overall monotonous second half.
