Alexander Lowen (1910–2008) was an American physician and psychotherapist. The story of his life is a story of how he honored the body and healed his mind-body split. It is also the story of how, along the way, he helped mankind.
During his lifetime, Lowen earned four college degrees: his Bachelor of Science; his Bachelor of Law (L.L.B); his Doctor of Sciences of Law (J.S.D.); and his medical Degree (M.D.). He developed Wilhelm Reich's beliefs into Bioenergetic Analysis and created a large and viable organization, the International Institute for Bioenergetic Analysis (IIBA) to sustain and promote his therapeutic approach. The IIBA now has over 1500 members and 54 training institutes worldwide. Bioenergetic Analysis is now practiced not only in the United States, but also in Canada, Europe, Latin America, Israel, New Zealand, Australia, Japan and other countries.
Dr. Lowen has authored 14 books (translated to as many as eight different languages, collectively) as well as numerous articles and other professional publications. He also has presented his ideas in untold numbers of interviews, on video and audio tapes, and lectures worldwide. The establishment of the Journal for Bioenergetic Analysis gave him much satisfaction since it provides an ongoing forum for examining and furthering the ideas he pioneered. When asked during an interview in 2004 what has given him the most meaning in life, he responds without hesitation, feeling the pleasure and life of the body.
“What you are really doing is caring for your body, and caring involves being interested, feeling, and sensing with affection ... Be your body in its movements, actions, and expressions. That is what this book is about” (158).

What do these exercises really do?
They help open up the extra-respiratory pathways so that you can breathe deep and be more grounded. These two characteristics are the cornerstones for true self-expression. When you are grounded, you are in touch with reality, with the ground, like a tree; you are more aware of what is happening in you, more accepting. From this place, you can easily express yourself. Any unconscious withholding of thoughts and emotions will lose its hold, and you find yourself free to express your natural spontaneity in any given circumstance.
No more lies, in a way. No more running away from truth. No more running away from yourself. You come to appreciate who you are more fully by doing some of these exercises.

En este libro se comparten ejercicios básicos y complementarios de bioenergética, no sólo para el mejoramiento de la postura sino también para un mejor equilibrio corporal a través de un mejor manejo de las emociones y la energía. Es una buena guía que cumple con los propósitos que antes mencioné y que puede integrarse muy bien a otros aspectos de desarrollo y equilibrio personal.
Ottimo manuale esemplificativo sugli esercizi tipici della bioenergetica, facile da approcciare e dà una visione d'insieme e decisamente meno teorica sul modo di percepire il proprio corpo e le sue tensioni e come scioglierle. Sicuramente non posso dir altro da neofita. Più che altro - nel mio caso - un manualetto da consultazione.

Szczególnie w tym przypadku zrozumienie treści można pogłębiać tylko przez praktykę.
Autor zaznacza, że system bioenergetyki to nie terapia i nie zastępuje terapii. Ważne by zrozumieć jakie są tego implikacje. Jeżeli ktoś szuka pomocy w wyzwaniach związanych z ciałem lub emocjami, lepiej odnieść się do naukowo opracowanych terapii jak CBT czy psychodynamiczna.
Jednocześnie autor pisze że jeżeli potrafisz wykonać ćwiczenie to świetnie, ale jeżeli masz z nim problem to znaczy że naprawdę masz problem. I że wymagana jest pogłębiona praktyka.
Niestety, mając duże nadzieje związane z całym systemem regularnie praktykowałem ćwiczenia, nie na trafiając na żadne wyzwania czy 'blokady' które opisuje autor. Nie znalazłem też ulgi czy rozwiązania moich wyzwań związanych z ciałem czy emocjami.
Czytelnik jest więc skazany na powtarzanie i testowanie ćwiczeń jedno po drugim, aż w końcu znajdzie takie, które sprawia mu trudność.
W moim przypadku mam odczucie że ten czas mógłby być lepiej spożytkowany.
Dodatnie punkty jednak za zwrócenie uwagi na zgłębienie świadomości ciała i przeniesienia uwagi na obszar brzucha.
Very helpful book to get started with bio-energetic exercises. Despite some texts that introduce and clarify the exercises, the explanations about the method itself are quite brief. But if you're ready to get started on some work on your own, this is the book to get.
