Sinclair Brides #3

Her Dearest Sin

Rate this book
Honorable, gallant, courageous—Sebastian Sinclair mirrored his notable brothers in every way, even when it came to pursuing an intense, impossible love. Surely the flame in his heart could be nothing else, for it drove him to rescue a brave and beautiful Spanish noblewoman—held prisoner to another man's dangerous desires.

"Mi corazón," she whispered. My heart...Doña Pilar tasted the sweetness of the epithet upon her lips and knew she'd named Sebastian Sinclair well. For the fearless Englishman had dared to snatch her from the grip of monstrous evil, had wed her to preserve her honor and had now become Her Dearest Sin.

About the third Sinclair brother, Sebastion, also known as Sin, this story starts in 1813 and then jumps to 1814 during the period when Wellington was a diplomat to the Spanish and French courts. Sebastian is on his staff. I found the book a little too gory for me, and just couldn't like either Pilar or Sebastian as much as I had hoped. There is plenty of action, but the villain was a little too evil for me.

While this was a great adventure to read, the romance didn't gel for me. Not sure what it was but the heroine, Pilar, seemed to be lacking . Sebastian was a great hero and the brothers are all awesome, which made the scenes back in England really enjoyable.
The villain is well written and definitely had me hoping for his demise.
I would be interestd to read the earlier stories if I can get hold of them.

Pilar and Sebastian Sinclair meet on very strange circumstances. She is trying to steal his clothes so that she can run away from her guardian/fiance. Needless to say, since we are just starting the story, she gets caught, he gets accused of trying to help her, and her guardian Julian Delgado is very angry.

Sebastian and Pilar meet later, of course, and all sorts of crazy things happen. All of which make Julian even more upset. (Julian is not very nice.)

I really liked Pilar, and she was written in a way that allowed to reader to understand her actions even when they seemed to go against what she should do. Sebastian on the other hand, was a bit of an arrogant fool...at first. He slowly changes and learns and becomes a better man.

Not too bad for a Harlequin. The story and setting were very interesting without too many hot and heavy scenes.

While I would've liked Pilar to , I appreciated that Gayle Wilson wrote a strong female lead with skills and interests that influenced the outcome of the narrative. Sebastian irritated me from time to time, but he charmed me after a fashion. I like that he realized his errors and that both Sebastian and Pilar talked about their feelings. Though a little slow to start and a little melodramatic, Her Dearest Sin was sweet and I imagine anyone invested in the series would appreciate the glimpses of Val and Elizabeth and Ian and Anne's future. For me, it was a cute addition, but after a pretty decent story, I could've done without the florid sex scene. Overall, though, it was a nice way to spend my morning commute.

The English captain hero met the Spanish heroine when she held him at swordpoint and tried to steal his clothes. But her guardian caught up with her, slashed the hero's face, and took her away again. Nearly a year later, horribly scarred, the hero meets her again in Madrid, and wants revenge. His friend is killed by the abusive guardian--who has plans to marry her--so the hero decides to rescue her. Whether she wants to be rescued or not. He takes her back to England, after marrying her in a makeshift ceremony. Each one is trying to do what the other wants, but they never come out and say what they want themselves, which is true to life, but makes one want to bip them on the head. This is a very emotional story and very enjoyable. An oldie but goodie.

Very good read. pilar was a complex character that I found refreshing because I was never for sure what she might decide. Also reminded very much so , that women are abused. recommend it a must read for all women so you to can have a happy ending.

After rereading this book and having made the mistake of reading 4 books of this author in a row, I become very bored with her formula and have dropped this to a three stars from a four.

Not too excited about this book. I found that it couldn't keep my interest enough to keep reading, especially considering I was more excited about the friend at first, rather than the hero.
