This book has werewolves, vampires and sidhe (fairies). It's a young adult fantasy novel.

If you finished Twilight or are waiting for the next Vampire Academy or House of Night novel and need a new book to read, try this book.

Now, I don't usually write bad reviews of books, because I know how hard authors work to write them, but I just couldn't NOT write something after reading this book. In a word, it was horrible. The writing was some of the worst I've read, and I've read a lot of books. It seemed to me like Ms. Banks was so preoccupied with getting to the next big event of the book, she didn't really care how she got there. In the beginning, I was taken aback when But that's not cool, it's just poor parenting, no matter how you put it. I was also very frustrated with the way that Artemis This makes her come off as not only naive, but stupid. Not to mention how creepy Ares actually is. Despite the reviews promising this great romance, there is no chemistry between Artemis and Ares at all. He just comes off as stalkerish and controlling. Lastly, because if I don't stop myself I could go on for hours, I hated the way that Artemis treated her best friend. I'm not even going to pretend to remember his name, but he (for whatever strange reason) clearly cared about her and she dismissed him like he hadn't been there for her when no one else was. I get that there is supposed to be a love triangle in which she only falls for one of the guys, but she was outright rude to him. I wasn't even able to finish the book, and I'm not ashamed to say it. If you are a fan of any well-written books (Harry Potter, Mortal Instruments Series, Percy Jackson, etc.) I BEG you not to read this book. It is just a waste of money and time.

Divulging my true thoughts about this book would be cruel. This book is not for the discerning reader. Also, the author should invest some money in a decent editor.

How was this book even published?!?!?!Who in their right mind reads something like this and says,"Boy, is this riveting!I should immediately put it out on to the market!Who cares if it reads like a first draft composed by a middle schooler? It's pure gold!"

It sucks so much that I barely finished to where Artemis's dad tries to shoot Ares.(Which would not have been a bad turn to the plot.)I mean, the characters. In the beginning, I was sort of OK with her dad taking her and that one guy to a bunch of places and stuff, but then I wonder to myself,"Why isn't Artemis speculating on why her dad is suddenly taking to a bunch of super expensive places and letting her and her GUY friend sleep in the SAME room and on the SAME bed?!?!?!I mean, whatever happened to taking care of your little girl?!!!!
Seriously, the dad lets her and her dude friend GAMBLE and DRINK BEER with FAKE IDS.Honestly, I just sort of sat there trying to figure out if I was being punked or if Artemis was suddenly going to start stripping for the club they were at.Her dad is so "cool" that this should be no problem. Here is exactly the part where I sat dumbfounded:
" We hurried to the house and I climbed straight into bed. Bret followed me in and closed the door behind him. He set our bags down and sat on the bed next to me. “I’m sorry we had to leave so early,” I said to Bret.Bret shrugged as he settled himself next to me. “It’s not your fault, Artemis.”I rolled over and laid my head on his chest. We had been sleeping like this for so long that I barely thought about it. I focused on the beat of his heart and closed my eyes. Bret softly rubbed my back and I fell asleep."

Speaking of the leading lady herself, ARTEMIS SUCKS BUTT AS A NARRATOR.She has absolutely no personality at all.Half the time, she is merely telling you exactly what happened to her with little to no personal input at all.Off the top of my head, I can think of half a dozen instances of this terrible narration:

Bret set me down in the truck and got in the backseat. I stared at Darren in shock.“What’s happening? Why won’t you let us watch the news? What’s going on?!” I screamed at Darren, knowing he was up to something.
“Just do what I say.” He started the truck and took off out of the parking lot, spraying gravel from his tires as we raced out on to the highway again.I felt my anger rising at Darren and my body began to heat up. I turned to yell at him then felt my body starting to twitch. I grunted in frustration as I had a seizure. Bret screamed,“Darren!” Darren pulled over and Bret held me down against the seat so I wouldn’t thrash around and hit my head. Darren grabbed a cold water bottle, unscrewed the lid and splashed it on my face. I closed my eyes and focused on the cold feeling, willing myself to calm down. My body slowed its convulsions and then stopped altogether. Bret sighed. “I wish I knew what the hell caused those.”

There are so many places where you could have added how Artemis felt about in the 100 plot twists I managed to crawl my way through. And, I almost forgot; why does Artemis refer to her father as Darren and Dad?What sense is that supposed to make?Does the author want to capitalize on the nonexistent cool dad factor?

And how Artemis is like a an amazing person who is so awesome. In fact, she is not at all a judgemental person who is following a well-worn and irritating feature of some YA books:The mean and stupid Barbie girl syndrome.
I shrugged then talked around a chip in my mouth. “Maybe, it depends on how I feel after shopping. I generally get tired from dealing with the Barbie girls here.”
Billy frowned. “What Barbie girls?”
I looked around us and saw at least ten blonde haired, big-chested, slutty dressed girlsand laughed loudly. “Look around us Billy. It’s like an ‘I wanna be Barbie’ convention.”
He looked around us and smiled. “I guess I see what you mean.”
I scoffed. “As if their looks weren’t bad enough, these girls all act dumb and talk in high pitched voices.” I changed my voice to as high pitched as I could get. “Like ohmyGod Billy! Did you see her hair? It is like totally last summer.”
He laughed loudly at my mocking and shook his head. “So, why is it that you have been the outcast in our group when you are so much fun to hang out with?”

Like I said, she's AMAZEBALLS.

I don't want to even talk about Ares the creepy stalker to whom the "tough" heroine keeps submitting to.He's just so one-dimensional, I'm absolutely flabbergasted. It's clear the author tried to make him seem appealing and failed miserably.

So, based on the exactly 35 pages I tortured myself with; this is a terrible book and I don't want innocents to be lured by the synopsis and cover and spend their money on this, this creature.I wish I could give it 0 stars, maybe 1/2 for actually getting a book out there.

And, normally, I wouldn't rag on a book so much, but I truly dislike this book.So Ms. Banks, sorry for the blatantly disappointed review and, I will not be following this series like, ever.

Bottom Line – With it's intense yet tender story, Song of the Moon drew me in...I read it in about 24 hours, it's a quick read that I did not want to put down, though I can tell you with 100 pages to go, part of me wanted so desperately to put it down and finish tomorrow, JUST so I could have a reason to reconnect with Artemis, however the part that won out demanded I finish! I have read several reviews on goodreads that liken this book to Twilight, and though there's a love story, I honestly did not see the connection at all, Catherine does have the ability to draw one into a story much like Stephanie Meyer, Song of the Moon could not be more different than Twlight! I give Song of the Moon 5 mushrooms, it's a must read for fans of the paranormal!

In a nutshell? This book was a utter disappointment and sadly I couldn't even get past the first few chapters.

I'm not going to give anything away of the story, partly because I barely read any of it, but the writing was simply too awful to read. There was absolutely no flow and the dialogue was about as flat as a piece of cardboard. Not to mention that the characters felt like zombies barking out scripted infomercials instead of living, breathing, people.

Yes, I realize I could have given the book the "at least half" once over, but the horrendous style kept me dragging my feet. Please, where are the talented were-wolf authors? Where did they disappear to?

This story could have been something in the hands of the right author which left me disappointed and wanting a refund. Not worth the read.

EDIT
I finally forced myself to keep reading and at least make it half-way. I was actually surprised when the book started to pick up a little in the character department as well as the plot. Unfortunately the writing and the dialogue did not improve in the slightest, but my previous review was a tad too harsh. I even added a star to the rating.

Artemis Lupine: Song of the Moon, is an great story with equally amazing characters. It has werewolves, vampires, and a touch of the fae, everything you could ask for in a good young adult paranormal novel.

The world Catherine Banks conjures up for this tale is darker and more intriguing than the typical backdrops in most YA novels. Banks’ writing style is a bit rough and there are a couple plotline issues but in the end, it didn’t effect the story too much.

All in all this book was a delightful read from the beginning to the last page. I would recommend this book to anyone that enjoys a howling good werewolf tale.

Artemis’s life is changed forever when she meets the man she has been dreaming about, Ares, who claims she is a werewolf and is also his mate. With the humans being killed, will Artemis be able to accept herself, her mate and her destiny? I read Song of the Moon because I really liked Banks book, Mercenary, but unfortunately I just found this book OK as I could not connect to the characters. I especially did not like how the main characters are either part of, or OK with killing or enslaving humans, and as a human myself I am against this.

It is extremely rare for me not to finish a book but I just couldn't push through this one. I don't like any of the characters and the whole thing is a convoluted mess. I had to quit at 65% when Ares seemed like a controlling old man whore than a fated mate. I tried to cut Artemis some slack because she is so young but she is wishy-washy and just plain stupid at times.

Overall I really enjoyed this book. I thought the chemistry between the main characters was well-done and this was probably why I liked the book so much. There were a few minor things that distracted me a little, but not enough that I didn't continue on to read the second book. My main issues are as follows: There were some words that were repeated--a lot. For example, the word suprise. Everyone is always suprised about something when it comes to Artemis. I know the author was probably just trying to create the feeling that Artemis was special and that the things she was doing weren't typical, but sometimes the idea and use of the word seemed repetitive to me. Also, the idea that Artemis had never, ever in all her life looked in a mirror because her dad didn't have one and wanted to hide her heritage from her seemed implausible. She never looked at herself in the lake when she went swimming or when she went to the restroom in public places? It never occurred to her to look at herself? Really? There were just little things like that throughout that took away from the book a little for me, but they are nit-picky. I have re-read this book several times, which shows that it was likeable despite its little flaws and like I said, the chemistry, for me, more than makes up for it.

I have been wanting to read this book since forever, well since I heard about it. I sat down to read it and couldn't put it down. It was interesting but Artemis was so tiring I had trouble getting through it.
I'm a sucker for werewolves so I felt obligated to finish. The story line was kind of random and repeated itself. All she did was eat, sleep, deny that she loved a sexy wolf man and was kept in the dark about what she is. It was a little weird but thanks to Koda, Matt and Victor I cracked up alot through out the story.
Overall it was a pretty good read and I am going to buy the second installment.

I really liked the book and the interesting take on the Catherine's world she has created with Artemis and Ares and the supporting characters in the start of this little saga. She has definitely taken some time fleshing out the current story line where we are introduced to the characters. With the end of the book it leaves you wanting to know what happens next with the impatience of your favorite TV show cliffhangers. Hoping to see more books soon and maybe some more background history into the world of Artemis Lupine.

I really loved this book. I can't wait for the next in the series. Artemis (main character) is a strong women and has to deal with a lot. She does so with humor and class. Ares is the strong, hot, half naked man we all want to take care of us. The on going battle they have about who controls this relationship is great. Oh and I just can't get enough of the twins Matt and Koda. Very well written. Good Job Catherine Banks.
I recommend this book to all the fantasy book lovers out there.

So I had some serious issues with this book. First of all the writing needed lots of work. The Plot was confusing, hard to get into, and down right poorly written. Not to mention that there is absolutely no character development whatsoever in this book. The main character Artemis refers to her father as "Darren" unless actually speaking to him which is really weird. He acts like more of an older brother or friend than a father. He acts extremely over protective, but in the next breath get's her a fake ID and sends her off on her own to gamble? And he also get's her and her guy friend their own shared room and sees no problem with this? Yeah...right...

There were also a lot of bits of random information that wasn't explained or just popped up out of no where. Oh, the main character has seizures? Okay. And where does she live again? And how old is she? Oh and she also likes to talk to wolves and "Trying to show the wolf that he is not dominant to" her because that's totally normal (keep in mind that at this point she has no idea werewolves exist). Oh and the people where she lives (still no idea where that is) are all afraid of her for some unknown reason? 'Kay. And she suddenly knows all this stuff about wolf behavior and thinks all this is weird...but...normal...at....the same time....? What???

The whole book was just really random and disconnected, as though no thought was put into the plot or flow of the book at all. For example in one day alone she hung out with the person who seems to be her only friend, then they separate in a huff. Then they see each other later in the day. Then they get into an argument and separate again. Then later in the day he shows up at her house. Then she leaves again 'cause she's mad at him. Then she get's hurt so she goes to his house so he can treat it (cause that makes sense). Then because she's (very minimally) burned she stays the night at his house. Oh and then they're just settling down when the guy she was just with earlier (when she was mad at her friend...both times...) shows up in front of his house and is randomly shooting at the wolves that also randomly showed up for the uptinth time that day. Then they go to sleep. But in the morning her dad suddenly shows up at breakfast....

Anyways I was getting pretty frustrated. By this point I was getting whiplash. You know those old dramas where everything is all of a sudden really dramatic and the world is ending and then the next second it's like nothing happened, but then it's all drama again? That's this book.

I honestly tried to get into this book. I wanted to love it, or at least not hate it, or hell just be able to finish it. But it made me sad and mad and not in any way that you want a book to make you sad or mad. I do not recommend this book.

Quick Info
Standalone/Cliffhanger?: Cliffhanger
Part of a Series?: Yes
----------------------------------
Meeting the Characters
Artemis
Ares
Koda
Matt
Bret
----------------------------------
What happens?
Artemis thinks she is an ordinary human being. Unaware her seizures are her wolf trying to surface she is shocked and taken aback when Ares turns up and informs her she is infact half a werewolf; similar to him a prince of the werewolves.
She is unaware of what her other half is until its proven that people are trying to kill her.
Final thoughts
What happens is not detailed enough but if I say anymore it'l ruin it for others that want to read this.
Things are majorly overlooked and I'm going to try and say how without spoiling it.
1) The big event her father won't let her watch on the news is just swept under the rug by Ares. He confirms hes behind it all and then its not mentioned. She doesn't fight in my opinion hard enough to stop him and its left sort of on half. I assume still ongoing but its not clear.
2) Her dad. He just disappears. I get hes run from capture but theres no threats from him, nothing from her point of view.
3) Bret. I didn't like him and I can see another reviewer thought her callous towards him but if you just think of someone as a friend, you don't have to be nice to them because they like you. I see her as keeping him in his boundaries and she gets a bit unfriendly when he tries to push them. I just didn't get the point of him... Hes around for a lot of the book.
4) Are werewolves/vampires/fey bad? Are humans bad? Its not clear what side I'm fighting for. I'm on the humans side from what happens to them, I get the supernatural are trying to survive but it seems drastic. To me, I just don't like the supernatural. I feel no loyalty towards them, I don't want them to win, I don't want them to live, I don't want her to be one of them or be with one of them. I'm confused.
I get what this author tried to do, and for the most part it was fine but I feel more confused reading this, I was checking where I was in the book at certain parts wondering when it would end, would it reach a semi resolution and it doesn't. We get a cliffhanger, fine a lot of YA authors do this but I have more questions coming into the next book (which I won't be reading) than I did starting this book.
I kept this on my TBR since Dec 2014 and I'm kind of disappointed I even read it, I wouldn't gravitate towards this book now.
Would I read again?: Nope
Would I read this author again?: Maybe?

I was sucked into this book right away. Artemis is such a strong character that knows her dad is keeping something from her. She has been having strange dreams of a black wolf that turns in to a man but she doesn't believe in werewolves. While on a trip with Darren her father and best friend Brett she sees the man in her dreams at the casino they are in. Darren makes them leave right away but she is so drawn to the man she doesn't want to leave. Once back at home her father still will not tell her what is going on but the wolves from her dreams are now showing up around town.

Artemis has never had many friends and soon learns that her father had keep her in the dark as to why. She is part werewolf and they all can feel a predator in her. Brett never seemed to feel it, he is very protective over her and wants to be more than friends. Artemis only feels a brotherly love towards Brett. She dreams of the wolf more but tells no one. Finally when they are caught in her yard with Brett almost shooting them does Ares the black wolf from her dreams shifts and tells her what they are, what she is....

He tells her soon she will change and be with them but she just can't wrap her head around all that is going on. Artemis decides to go with Ares to keep her town safe. He tells her they are destined mates and he doesn't understand why Darren never told her of her race. Ares and Koda, a pack mate, try to fill her in on all they can but they are keeping lots of secrets. She wants the truth but people keep attacking them and she is still trying to fight her shift to werewolf not ready to except what she is. The entire time she feels a pull to Ares, yes he is one hot werewolf, but its more than his looks she feels as if she has known him forever. Not understanding they mating she doesn't realize how strong the connection is between mates, till Victor the Vampire Prince explains a few things.

Artemis is on information overload. While trying to deal with this Brett tries to save her even though she is save. Because he came into the werewolf village now he must die or change. Knowing Artemis would never forgive him for killing Brett, Koda changes him.

This book is full over attacks, several hot make out scences, and just a great story that sucks you in wanting more. It leaves you with a huge cliffhanger at the end. You have to have more... I went from this book right into the second.

Great series, a 5 stars.

Can I please just tell you that I still cannot believe how quickly Banks had me hooked to her Artemis Lupine series. I'm honestly still in shock! I took one look at this cover (I'm ashamed to say) and almost put the book right back down. I can't quite put my finger on what it is that bothered me so much but I immediately felt like relating to these characters, let alone coming to enjoy myself in Banks' world would be nearly impossible. I can't stress enough how wrong I was. Banks had me hooked I think after the second or third chapter, and at that point I was doing everything I could to fly through the pages as quickly as possible.

Don't even get me started on how excited I was to find that the second and third installments in the series were already out and available for me right away, or how depressed I was to find out that the fourth book had not yet been released. Finding that out was a bad day to say the least. Artemis, Ares, Koda, and the rest of the gang had me invested from the first moment they entered the pages, and I'm still wishing I could find out more about them. Artemis was hard not to feel for and so I became a cheerleader for whatever decisions she made...with the exception of the moments she was doing her best to resist Ares. I can't be alone when I say that he was beyond adorable and everything a girl would want if they were Artemis, right? Banks had me sympathetic to Artemis' situation with the people she grew up with and the less than welcoming vibe they always put out when she was around. Brent was the exception, but that's a whole different story, and one that frankly I'm still trying to figure out.

So after Artemis won my heart as far as heroine's go, Ares and his pack were next in line. They had me drooling, laughing, tearing up and rooting for them all each and every step of the way. If you haven't had the chance to come across this series, do yourself a favor and pick up all three installments immediately....you won't regret buying them, but you might regret not buying them all in advance when you finish book one and wish book two was right there to crack open.

I had high expectations for this book, especially after reading all the good reviews on it. After reading it though, I was a bit disappointed.

The story was well made and let me say how much I like love Ares. He's the perfect example of an Alpha. And boy, do I like Alphas. Artemis also kept me engrossed in the book. Now the main problem I usually see with the heroine of books, is that they are insubstantial. But Artemis was strong in the beginning and towards the end, she was even stronger. It was a nice change from the usual crybaby act.

Another nice change was the lack of the heroine having trouble with choosing between men. It's either you love this guy or you love the other guy, and when you make your choose, the other guy humbly accepts defeat. Thankfully, Artemis knew who she loved and who she didn't from the beginning. Although many others may find it annoying, I find that denial can be healthy in some cases. What's a good story without denial? It's only natural for a person who's been thrust into a situation such as hers to react as she did. I am completely fine with that.

Brett seemed like a good friend at first, but honestly he was a Class 1 Jerk. It was his own delusional self that kept him thinking that she liked him, and when she rejected him for her "True Mate", he throws a tantrum.

Now of course in every story there are flaws. Banks writing was a bit rough and more than once I had to reread lines because I didn't quite understand what was happening. Her minor characters, like Koda and Matt, were a bit undeveloped and making me wish that she would get a bit more in depth. Also, Artemis could be viewed as unlikable in some ways. Her out-of-the-blue tantrums when you think that she is finally adapting, really throws me off guard.

Despite the fact that the book is in need of some editing, I feel that the plot line made up for that. In fact, some of the problems actually kept me from putting my book down. Although the book had some major flaws, I felt that the overall story made up for it.

I started out publishing a really mean review out of frustration with how much I dislike this book. I stand by my opinion about disliking it, but I will apologize to the author for the review - even if you don't like something, constructive criticism is the way to go, not bludgering and badgering something someone worked hard on. I'm really sorry.

As for constructive criticism. A story should absolutely have hints to the theme, but this book has too many, and they don't feel "real", they feel forced. Like just her name, Artemis Lupine, or the fact that she "wolfs down" her food and "whines like a puppy" while waiting for food to arrive. It doesn't add to her character or her story, when it's in unison with all the other things just like these two examples.

The character can absolutely be evil, mean, judgemental or just a general shitty person, that's fine, I've loved books where the main is a true bad person. What I don't like here is the fact that the main character is an awful person, but it's explained in the book that "it's just the way she is", when she starts hacking on a girl for no other reason than that the girl doesn't like her. It just doesn't make sense for a character that is supposedly kind but a bit weird.

The last things that really bothered me where the relationship with her dad and the werewolf boyfriend. They are so bad for her, and as a general concept of relationships, yet it was made out to be "cool" and "good". The dad lets her drink alcohol because he's "cool", although that is just plain bad parenting. The boyfriend arc of the story is too obvious. He is made out to be dark and handsome yet kind, but he is actually a bullying, stalking crazy person who doesn't take no for an answer, especially not from women.

I'm sorry, but it's not that I just didn't like the book, it's that it sets such bad examples for younger audiences that it's supposed to cater to. I wouldn't want my daughter reading this and wanting to have a life like that because in the book a stalking creep is made out to be romantic.

Over and out.

This was an excellent and fun book to read - couldn't put it down! The plot was intriguing and well paced. I am a fan of good dialog and this book has more than its fair share of zingers and memorable lines. The characters are colorful, but I feel the author could have done a better job making them more distinctive. For example, I know that Koda and Matt are twins and probably will act very similar to one another, but at the same time, there should be some quirk that helps the reader distinguish some semblance of individualism between the two (besides hair color and pack order). Each character needs to have their own signature. I am also confused as to why Brett is in the story? He served a purpose in the first few chapters, but then became completely irrelevant - that is a plot hole if I ever saw one. If the author is planning to bring back Brett's character in the future of the series, Brett's exit from the first story was a bit too short and the reader all but forgets he ever existed when they reach the last page. I found Artemis' character a bit unlikeable; she was too petulant. There were times when she reminded me of Zoey Redbird from the House of Night Series while other times I pictured her as a bratty 5 year old throwing tantrums left and right. I get that in a hero's journey, the hero is flawed but changes and grows as they are challenged; however, if the hero is skewed too far in one direction, the reader will find it difficult to believe the character can or has changed. The book needed a great deal of editing (i.e. many typos and plot issues), but in a way, it made the book more intriguing. It felt as if I was reading an unpolished manuscript - raw, but powerful. Overall, despite some novice storytelling mistakes, the book was enjoyable, fun, and a highly recommended read. I cannot wait for Book 2: Kiss of a Star.

Catherine Banks had created a new and dark world within the first book in the Artemis Lupine Series - Song of the Moon. Weaving a mysterious tale that’s filled with werewolves, vampires and fae, Banks has created a great foundation within the Young Adult genre.

Our main character – Artemis is different, she knows it, as does everyone else, but no one knows exactly why… or do they? She’s strong, independent and feisty with a side of herself she knows nothing about that is hidden just underneath. With dreams of wolves and a beautiful man she doesn’t know but is drawn to – Artemis is thrown into a world she never knew existed.

Enter Ares, An alpha werewolf and someone who has just about all the answers that Artemis is looking for. These two characters are drawn together in many ways and are forced to face many unknown challenges along the way. Their banter back and forth was often snarky and gave me many laugh out loud moments, and yet other times their dialogue is true and honest. It was nice to see through the walls each had and watch their relationship change throughout the course of the book.

The writing is good, yet at times I found it somewhat confusing or hard to read. However neither took away from the story or characters in the slightest. I comment Banks for all she’s done with this self published title.

All in all, I’m happy to say that yet again, another self published author has pleasant surprised me. With twists and turns from start to finish, more then memorable characters and a cliffhanger ending – Song of the Moon will leave you more then ready for the sequel – Kiss of a Star.

Song of The Moon is one of those books that draws you in and doesn't let go.

The way the story starts out I thought it was going in a different direction that it ended up going. The author blew me away with the story and the characters. Artemis is a strong, independent chick. She hasn't had many friends except for her best friend Brett.

I liked Brett in the beginning, he's a good friend but somewhat overprotective. His story line just kinda ends so I am wondering if he will reappear sometime later in the series. When Ares comes along, I totally forgot about Brett. I mean he is like a God, so hot and romantic. Whew I was wishing I was Artemis lots of the time. I mean she has this Godlike werewolf mate plus two more super hot werewolf twins Koda and Matt in the pack. What more could a girl want? At first she is not sure if she should feel the way she does so quickly towards Ares, she falls fast and hard for him. I would too if he came my way.

Ok yes there are really hot werewolves and I mean really hot, vampires and sidhe (fairies) but there is so much more to the story. The plot is well written, the characters are all so likeable and the ending will leave you wanting more. It has everything I love in a paranormal romance... action, romance, hot guys, kick butt heroines and a cliffhanger ending. Did I mention lots of romance and hot guys? LOL

I am reading the sequel right now and it does not disappoint, it is so good too.! I can't wait to continue with this amazing series. A truly spectacular read for any young adult paranormal romance fan!

3.5 stars

I took it as a personal mission this month to read as much insta-love novels as I could master so that I'd really make up my mind about all that 'love at first sight' plot.

From everything i've read so far, Song of the Moon was the only one where the the girl (Artemis) actually tries to fight the ideia of loving someone after being together only for two hours. She questions it more fiercely, admitting the absurd of all that cause, as most the main characters on a supernatural story, she was raised human. In her world, love at first sight is beautiful only on the paper. It's not something that happens with people...

So this questioning her connection to Ares was one real thumbs up (even more if we take into consideration her confronting Are's alpha male atitude, like he owned her). Of course it didn't took much for their "connection" to stick, but then, no-one's perfect.

I really enjoyed the pack relationship between Matt, Koda and Artemis, even with Ares, and Victor was a true sight! I'd find myself laughing overtime he appeared.

Catherine Banks created a very interesting world were all the different types of preternatural beings interact and have their own law and political structures. I'd probably like spending more time with them.

However, as I said, rating this gender I had to make sorta "compare and contrast" exercise and, despite being a very intriguing and well planed story, it still lacked a bit in the narrative style. Sometimes it was a bit too fast, others it got a bit disconnected, like missing on Artemis's thoughts. Banks has still a lot of room to grow on this first installment, but the characters were definitely a 5 star! =D

First I have to say that I would not recommend this for anyone under the age of 18. The adult situations alone keep me from making the recommendation.

That being said I enjoyed this thoroughly. I look forward to Kiss of a Star, later this year.

Darren's realtionship with Artemis (his daughter) is strange from the onset. He's raised her alone since she was five lets her friend (a boy Bret) sleep over on a regular basis or vise versa. I don't deem that fatherly but his attitude to what is normal is odd. The book starts with them on a road trip hitting Vegas (gambling and drinking) Bret and Artemis sharing a room while he has a separate one. Then moving to Reno for more of the same then ending in Tahoe which is where the story turns....

Artemis sees for the first time the man she's been dreaming about for weeks; things heat up and not in a good way with Bret and a local Billy both vying for her attention when she doesn't want either one and can't quite figure out why. All she can seem to want is Ares and she's frustrated by how fast that seems to progress.

Then the pace gets faster; moving to the mysterious man Ares, his pack Matt and Koda and the race is on so to speak. Artemis gets a crash course in who and what she is with the human race being thrown literally to the wolves and Artemis discovering her role in the whole affair.

There is no paranormal missing from this story from vampires, fey, werewolves to ogres they are here and for paranormal readers who love the blend you'll enjoy this read.

ATTENTION FELLOW SELF RESPECTING FANTASY READERS... AVOID THIS BOOK AT ALL COST!

Ok.... So usually I don't write reviews on the books I read unless it's the best damn thing I've ever read, or it's such garbage that I couldn't even finish it. Unfortunately, this book in particular happens to be the latter. Everything about this book was just absolutely terrible. First of all, two seconds into the book I'm already confused at the fact that the main character's (Artemis) Father not only is allowing her and her friend Bret to drink, BUT HE ALSO BOUGHT THEM FAKE IDS. I know this was probably a tactic to make him seem like the "cool" dad, but Jesus Christ someone call social services on this guy. Not to mention the fact that he's just totally dandy with having Bret the friend sleep in the same bed as his daughter (in what world would this be realistic). The setting was confusing, and I just found myself holding hope that I would lose the discombobulation this book gives. The overall plot was boring and predictable, and the writing was erratic. I found myself concerned with a point in the book which some boy (I think his name is billy, but I can't be bothered) essentially forces himself on Artemis where she is struggling to get him to stop kissing her, and then next thing I know they are totally fine and smiling at each other. Like seriously, wtf?!?! Overall this book is a waste of time and money, and I am honestly baffled at the fact this book got any good reviews at all... let alone a lot.
