A very short but highly informative book by Lincoln Borglum, the son of Gutzon Borglum who was commissioned in the 1920’s to construct the monument. Gutzon was a world famous sculptor who became very dedicated to this project. Not only did he sculpt the heads of the four presidents, Gutzon was totally engaged in all aspects the day-to-day work. Lincoln was only 12 when his dad’s work began but was there from the start and took over through the completion after Gutzon died.
Several astounding facts are woven throughout the book that makes this beautiful monument even more impressive. If you have not yet been to Mount Rushmore, make the trip. You won’t be disappointed and it will stay with you for the rest of your life.

Their is a series of books with the subtitle of “The Story Behind the Scenery.” This is the best of the numerous ones I have purchased and read. Written by the sculptor son, it becomes a very personal story without being over indulgent. Well written text illustrated with quality photographs.

As the subtitle states, this book tells the story behind the creation of Mount Rushmore. The text and some of the photos came from the sculptor’s son who continued the work after his father died.

Written by the son of the person who was commissioned to crave Mount Rushmore. He writes about the creation of the monument and the backstory of it.

A very well written introduction to Mount Rushmore, from when it was a mere idea to when it was completed. The photography is memorable and supports the history of the making of this memorial very well.
