Tooko Miyagi piirtää uskomattoman kauniita, suorastaan eteerisiä hahmoja, mutta takakannessaan "100% kauhua" mainostava manga, jossa kauhu kuitenkin alkaa vasta jokaisen tarinan lopussa ja jonka viimeinen pitkä tarina (eli lähes puolet pokkarista) on historiallinen, ei oikein lunasta lupauksiaan.

Olisikin kiinnostavaa saada oikeasti pelottavaa kauhua suomalaiseen mangajulkaisuun.

Stinen varhaisteineille kirjoittamia kauhuromaaneja.

Consists of four short suspense/horror stories plus a longer folk tale. The short stories are pretty good, except one of them (with haunted storage house and group of boys) was a bit messy; jumping in time and place, but I liked them all nonetheless. Art is quite good too, the line's a bit thin so some panels can look slightly scribble-y but it's a small complaint.

The fifth story is based on a folk tale and I probably liked it the best of the bunch. It's not a suspense story but a tale of a girl who seeks for the person who betrayed their people, resulting in a massacre. It touches a tiny bit on themes of prejudices and racism but don't except too much social commentary, the focus is on the main character's personal journey to deal with the past and her feelings, and through it, start anew.

Enjoyed this one-shot book plus the cover art is the prettiest I've seen in a while!

Started off great, and then ran straight off a cliff. What the hell happened?

Greeting: Legend says a female oni lives in the woods, building a perfect doll out of lovely corpses. However, expectations are completely subverted and there's a shiver up my spine. Also, the sensation of a long hair being wrapped around my ankle until death comes for me... awful! I love it. 5/5

Burial: A haunted warehouse, a twisted child who wants nothing more than to see the 'moment' of someone's death, friends who did something terrible to a homeless drifter, a living spirit lying in wait... This one was more confusing than creepy. Did the kids lock Kazumi in the warehouse to die? Or did Kazumi do all the killing? 3/5

Fallen: Adorable foxes guard a crumbling shrine on a sacred mountain! A trombone-playing schoolgirl who keeps returning to the shrine, unable to move forward. The ending wasn't a shock, but I still liked it! 5/5

Invitation: The Curse of Ito's Pond and a beckoning white hand. Interestingly, the curse was stymied from being passed on (for a little while) because the recipient couldn't see ghosts. 4/5

East of the Sun, West of the Moon: Well, that was certainly... different from all the other stories in this book. It was a little love story that hit both sides of the skin-color spectrum with people being against a dark-skinned girl and an albino bishop. It didn't really feel like it belonged with all these other fairytale-type stories. 3/5

Overall, not too spooky or bloody, but intriguing. Beautiful artwork, especially the ladies and the scenery. Nice quick read too. 4/5

Kesäyön tarinat on pokkarillinen pieniä kauhupätkiä sekä tekijän aikaisemmin piirtämä fantasiakertomus Remuluksen kylästä. Jälkimmäinen oli mielestäni itse kauhupätkiä laadukkaampi kertomus. Toki molemmissa on omat ongelmansa.

Tiiviys synnyttää läpijuoksemisen tunteen. Kas, tuolla on vaja, joku kuoli, vajaan!

Ainoastaan kettujumalten dialogi tuntuu edes osin uskottavalta. Pahempaakin on nähty (looking at you, Trinity Blood), mutta silloin tarina on pelastanut paljon.

It's hard for me to rate this manga... I checked this book out because the Manga Book Club group is doing a Rainbow challenge where you can read mangas with colors in the titles... well believe it or not, those are hard to come by... especially at the library :-p But the library had this one so I checked it out. I was pretty excited to find it was just a short instead of a series. And I was even more intrigued it was supposed to be scary horror stuff.

Now, of course the scary horror stuff isn't scary at all and anyone who thinks it is is a complete wuss (just Saiyan), but in terms of the short stories, they weren't horrible by any means, and I really did enjoy the artwork. But what threw me was the random story at the very end that had nothing to do with the Tale of a White Night short stories. That last story (I think it's called "The East of the Sun, the West of the Moon") was actually really boring and very predictable. At first I wasn't sure if this was another story from the author or a preview to a different manga... I had no idea and the artwork was very different from Tale of a White Night...but I think it is also done by Tooko Miyagi (only because Raul and Chris looked very much like Miyagi-san's artwork). Anyway... I'm not sure what that story was doing in this book but I didn't like it.

The first half that has the actual Tale of a White Night is decent. It's not great, but the short stories aren't so insanely bizarre that I went "That'd never happen." (which is a good thing, in my opinion) I truly did enjoy the artwork and it was a quick easy read. It's a shame that last story had to ruin most of it.

the collection of stories were interesting. they most certainly had elements of horror and suspense that kept me guessing till the last page was turned, well, for the white night stories that is. the last third of the book is east of the sun, west of the moon. when i saw that title i got excited; i had that book in my to-read pile! i quickly put this book down, grabbed the other book and devoured that 5 page tale. yes, it was really that short. so, i felt prepared to compare miyagi's rendition to the actual tale. i really shouldn't have done any of that because it didn't matter. other than the area being difficult to find and a girl searching for a guy, there weren't any similarities. this isn't to say that it was a bad story, it was fine, but i was disappointed. who wouldn't be after reading about a girl who listened to everyone but herself, went on a world tour, duped trolls to save her prince, and almost lost the love of her life? instead we have a girl discriminated against because of her skin color and searching for the boy whom she believed not only killed her brother, but stole his heart. like i said, it wasn't bad but i was looking forward to the first more than the second

This was a nice book. It consists of five different stories which contain elements of horror. Personally, I liked the white night stories. They were a little creepy and reminded me of some Asian horror movies I've seen. I love watching Asian horror movies, so for me the creepy aspects of the stories were a good thing. The stories also had me guessing who is who and what will happen, which I liked.

The bonus story on the other hand was not much to my liking. I didn't really dislike it, I just felt there should have been more to it. The idea was that a girl tried to find a guy who killed her brother and that's basically all that happened in the story. I feel like there should have been something more...not quite sure what...but something. Or maybe a different conclusion would have been better. This one was a bit too predictable in my opinion. Anyway, these are just my opinions and I must admit this book was a little different than the mangas I usually read, so maybe I just haven't got used to this style of manga.

Oh, and I must say I love the cover because I love the combination of pink and black. :)

Alun lyhyet, perinteiset kauhutarinat olivat koukuttavia ja tarpeeksi hyytäviäkin kohderyhmää ajatellen. Kauhumanga on todella iskemässä Suomen markkinoille tosissaan.

Piirrosjälkeä on kehuttu kauniiksi.
