Dolphin Diaries features a girl and her family from Florida, who travel around the world as marine biologists and study dolphins. Animal Ark features two children who work together to help animals and solve animal-related mysteries. The books were written by commissioned writers in the UK under Baglio's instruction using the pseudonym Lucy Daniels. Each ghostwriter is named with a 'Special Thanks' on the copyright page.

Using his real name he also wrote the book series The Pet Finders Club, featuring a group of three children who search for peoples lost pets.

I think Mandy is really worried about Sasha the dog who risked her life to save another dog but got seriously hurt when Sasha did that and now Sasha is in the pet hospital and is on the verge of dying I think Mandy doesn't want that to happen because Danny Sasha's owner and his friends will be crushed if that happens. Danny, Mandy, and James are trying to track down Rupert's owner Rupert is the other dog Because Rupert's owner is hiding now I think this makes Mandy more determined to find him. Rupert's owner because he left Rupert to starve in his empty apartment. When the found they owner they gave him a summon to come to court and Sasha got better This makes me think Mandy will be really happy.

The premise of this one was way too unrealistic for me. Moreover, Danny allowing Mandy and James (literal children) to go with him to investigate a potential animal cruelty case alongside a freaking cop is not appropriate or realistic at all. I’d be super pissed if someone put my kid in a dangerous situation like that. Not cool.

The rest of the story was pretty decent.

This is a review of the UK Hodder edition, credited to the fake author Lucy Daniels. The real author was Jenny Oldfield, who wrote the majority of the first 40 books in the series. In America, this would be the 33rd Animal Ark book published by Scholastic. Now, Scholastic would choose not to publish about 35 books in the series. Why they chose to publish this book is mind-boggling. Some books they didn't publish were ... well ... too British. This is such a book.

The book centers on the work of the RSPCA, which is one of the finest animal rescue charities in the world. The American edition claims that the work is done by the SPCA. America has nothing remotely like the RSPCA. There is no national SPCA. Trying to make a book set in England to be more American is just terribly stupid. American kids are fully capable of understanding that different countries HAVE DIFFERENT THINGS.

This is a very unusual story from Oldfield. First of all, it centers around dogs, and Oldfield doesn't seem to like dogs much, if her other writings outside of Animal Ark are anything to go by. She certainly hates pit bulls, and dogs with any bulldog in them. There's a bull terrier in here, portrayed as a dog that is violent to other dogs. Let's be sure to perpetuate those stereotypes, Jenny.

When I saw the cover and title, idiot me thought this would be about a foxhound. But no, she's a beagle, which is a miniature foxhound, really. I think the foxhound would've made for a more interesting story.

The story itself is okay, but is intense, which is very different from the usual slapstick and shenanigans from Oldfield. I have a feeling that Oldfield just watched a couple of episodes of Pet Rescue and Animal Hospital and wrote a kind of pastische. No RSPCA inspector would ever let a kid tag along on his or her rounds, considering how dangerous the job is. So, the book does suffer from not only overdramatics and bull terrier stereotypes, but from the unreality of letting kids work with the RSPCA like this.

Another problem are the illustrations. Jenny Gregory just couldn't draw dogs well. Her dogs all seem like stuffed toys rather than living animals, if you know what I mean.

Unfortunately, I had to downsize my collection of books because of limited space. Still, before donating the books, I picked this one up out of curiosity because of the curious beagle on the cover. The book is reminiscent of the typical animal-lovers 90s style of books (namely, I think of Pony Pals), but I had never read an Animal Ark book before. I forgot how hectic children's books were in the 90s because this plot shook me around like a chew toy. The book is plenty enjoyable, the characters are fun and fit into their archetypes, and the story is coherent: It's a very decent book for animal-loving kids. It is a bit gorey and graphic, however. Descriptives of fair detail into the operations and surgeries, this particular issue of the series dealt with animal abuse and neglect, assault, violence, and a surprisingly detailed scene describing two dogs getting hit by a motorcycle. By the end I was basically praying for these animals to be okay and for these kids to not be traumatized.

Overall, it's very enjoyable, and despite my being outside the intended demographic, I really enjoyed it. It was an exciting light read.

This particular one was a bit dramatic for my tastes- BUT, I'm glad I read it. I used to love these books as a kid, but never spotted how much they resemble a kid version of James Herriot's books. I love that one of the kids is named James. Baglio has to have been a fan of the James Herriot books at some point. I've bought a few of these in hopes that one day my kid grows beyond Wimpy Kid and Captain Underpants. I don't know if I'll read the rest of the ones I own or not- but, I definitely recommend them for kids who daydream of being a veterinarian.

Loved this series growing up, likely one of the top contributions to my desire to pursue veterinary medicine as my career choice. This one in particular was my absolute favorite because #1 I was a huge beagle fan growing up, but #2 is because it is a story of truth in vet medicine, the dog gets hit by a car and Mandy is horrified that the dog could very well die she was in such a bad way. It ends happy thankfully but there were many twists and turns to Sasha's recovery much like many of us experience when our beloved pets are ill.

It's alright. It has a great tendency to put animals before people and it obviously biased toward environmentalism. However, it's a simple and fun book for young children to read and has interesting facts about different animals.

It was good! Warning, *SPOILERS*

Mandy and James are invited to spend a week in London and help the animals and vets there! They accept and are really excited about it, especially since Danny, their host, has a beautiful retired police dog named Sasha! But on their first day, Sasha gets into a bad accident and returns to the vets with pretty bad injuries. Danny and his wife are very upset and worried because they both love their dog very much. Mandy and James are upset, too, but they have lots of animals to take care of and other jobs to keep them distracted. Until Sasha takes a turn for the worse.

I'll let you read it to find out what happens. I enjoyed reading it, but then, I say that about every Animal Ark book. :P

Mandy and James are glad schools out for summer. The first week of their break is going to be great. ASPCA worker , Danny Davies has invited them to go back to London with him to help at the animal hospital. And the best part is that they get to spend a whole week with Sasha, a goregous beagle. While in London, Mandy and James help Danny to try to get an awful by the name of Carl Hickmann to bring in his dog, Rupert for an exam. When they arrive at the apartment, they find Hickmann is gone and left Rupert behind.Since the poor dog had been trapped in a room ,when Danny opened the door, Rupert runs towards the door. He bolts out in to the street with Sasha close behind. As they run in to the road a man on a motorcycle speeds toward them. The motorcycle hits both Rupert and Sasha.Rupert was barley hit,but Sasha took the full impact. They had to rush her back to the hospital to try and save her. Will she make it, or will she die on the operating table?

If I were to rate this when I first read it years ago, I probably would give it four stars. Of all the Animal Ark books, this was my favorite. Mostly because the dog, Sasha, was a beagle and I love beagles (I have a dog and he is a beagle). I can't really remember the exact events in the book, but I think Mandy and James visit the SPCA and Sasha is injured. Anyway, it was pretty good. The whole series in general (or the books I read- I didn't read the whole series) is pretty good and I would recommend for kids ages 8-10.

Sasha is a beagle, and she got run over by a motorcycle! Mandy and James really hope that she'll heal properly! Will Sasha get better, or is it to late to save her? Read the book to find out!
