Adrian is an Alpha—a genetically enhanced assassin—thought dead by the people who created him. Living outside the Gate, a high tech shield that protects the enclosed city from the contaminated and lawless land outside, he is the leader of the Resistance, living only to bring down the Gate and the people who sought to kill him.Charity Caruthers is the daughter of one of the most powerful and brutal men in the inner city—the General. She risks everything sneaking outside the Gate to get a message to Adrian.
Passion explodes, ripping apart the foundations of both their lives. Charity begins to understand true sexual desire as Adrian teaches her the passion to be found in dark fantasies. Loyalties are tested and trust pushed to the limits as the final confrontation is at hand. Some will die. Some will live. And Adrian and Charity’s fragile relationship could be the final casualty in this war of retribution and freedom.
Once upon a time N.J. had the idea that she would like to quit her job at the bookstore, sell everything she owned, leave her hometown, and write romance novels in a place where no one knew her. And she did. Two years later, she went back to the bookstore and her hometown and settled in for another seven years.
One day she gave notice at her job on a Friday morning. On Sunday afternoon, she received a tentative acceptance for her first erotic romance novel and life would never be the same.
N.J. Walters is a New York Times and USA Today bestselling author who has always been a voracious reader, and now she spends her days writing novels of her own. Vampires, werewolves, dragons, time-travelers, seductive handymen, and next-door neighbors with smoldering good looks—all vie for her attention. It’s a tough life, but someone’s got to live it.
Alpha’s Revenge is book three in the Project Alpha series by N.J. Walters. This book was previously published as Sweet Charity.
“Real courage is being afraid and doing it anyway.”
Charity Caruthers always knew her father was evil. Her father is known as “The General.” Charity knew abuse at his hands growing up and was forced into an abusive marriage. Now widowed, she is often overlooked which gives her the opportunity to overhear things she shouldn’t. That’s how she learned of the prisoner being tortured for information about the resistance. When she went to see him, he told her to carry a message to Adrian that the General was coming in three days. How would she get outside the gate? How would she find this Adrian? But she had to try. Her father had to be stopped.
Adrian is the leader of the resistance and the third remaining Alpha. He envies both Tienan and Logan finding their mates. He had given up on the hope for himself until Charity was brought in claiming she had a message for him. One look and he knew she was the one, that she was his.
“He was an Alpha, bred to be stronger, faster and smarter. But he was also a creature of instinct. And every cell in his body was screaming that Charity belonged to him.”
Charity feels the same pull towards Adrian, a man she has never seen before. And it doesn’t take her long to figure out what he is. She’s heard of the Alphas. What will happen when he finds out who she really is, who her father is? The father that is the mortal enemy of the resistance.
“He should be her enemy. He was an Alpha. A killer. She should be terrified of him. Instead, she’d never felt safer in her life.”
I LOVE this series! This book was a perfect ending to the trilogy. We met Adrian before but didn’t truly know him. I loved his reaction to Charity. And I especially loved his way of making sure she was his. He decided to work on the physical connection first so that the emotional connection would come because of it. And boy did they connect!
There are many twists and turns. The General thinks he is orchestrating everything but he might be the one in for a surprise! The whole time, Adrian is convinced Charity could never love him because of what he is, and Charity thinks Adrian could never love her because of who she is. But that chemistry burns strong.
“The end of the game was at hand. Either he would defeat the General and bring down the Gate or he’d die. There was no going back.”
“The General had created a monster and now that monster had returned home to destroy his maker.”
This series is sexy as heck, suspenseful, and just plain awesome. I absolutely loved every single page of all three books. I hope you will too! N.J. Walters, you rock!
Finally, we get Adrian’s book! I’ve been waiting for him to get his HEA since I met him in Embracing Silence. He was the first alpha to escape and he became the leader of the resistance, determined to bring the gate down and take out the General and the Piedmont Corporation. He’s extremely driven, which is a given since he was created to be a weapon. The only thing he cares about is his adopted sister, Silence. In his heart, he’s yearning to find the woman who completes him, just like Tienan and Logan have.
Charity is General Caruther’s daughter. Supposedly life inside the walls is safer, but for Charity, it was a cruel prison and anything but safe since she was continually at her father’s mercy. After learning more and more about her father’s atrocities and then finding out his plans for the resistance, she decides the terror of the unknown that’s outside the walls was a safer bet than being a pawn for her father. She also has a warning to deliver to the resistance, but as the General’s daughter, they very well may not listen.
I have to say, I did not feel the connection between Adrian and Charity at all which threw me off. In the first two books, you had Tienan and Silence’s cat and mouse game that they played for weeks making the instant connection and quick seduction more believable. Mercy and Logan had the patient/healer connection before they got between the sheets. Here it’s kind of a wham bam, Thank you Ma’am thing and it just didn’t work for me.
There were things I really liked about the book. For instance, in the midst of the chaos of a completely desperate plan, all three alphas have to learn that sometimes doing the logical thing isn’t the best choice. Lessons like this are just alpha crack to me.
What I didn’t like was the lack of connection and the lack of trust between Adrian and Charity that showed throughout the book. I also wasn’t impressed by the rather abrupt ending, especially considering as far as I’m aware it’s the last book in the series. Things felt unfinished to me especially since I didn’t even get an epilogue showing me alpha babies and a settled city. I’m hoping this means we’ll get another book or two now the author has the rights to the series back from the publisher whose name we don’t speak.
Overall, this was good but not up to par with the first two. Since I was so looking forward to Adrian’s story this was a disappointment, but I think the problem was that I had built it up so high before reading it. I think on a reread I’ll enjoy it a lot more since I won’t have the high expectations.
Rating: 3.5 Wham Bam Stars
Note: Alpha’s Revenge was previously released by the author with the title of Sweet Charity.
I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book.
First book in the Project Alpha series, we get a nice introduction to this new world. Second book felt like a filler. This third book, Alpha's Revenge, definitely felt like it had a bit more meat to it. The final battle between The General and the Resistance is played out. Of course, the good (Resistance) wins but we get a peek at those supposedly living the good life.
Meet Charity, The General’s daughter. A pawn to his evil doings and having suffered at his hands all of her. She in attempt to save one of The General’s victims, she learns of the plot to find and kill the Resistance and its leader. She escapes out of the inner city, finds the rebel leader, Adrian, and tells him what is about to go down. There is attraction and suspicions between each other. Is she a spy? Oh no, he’s an Alpha! Battle between good and evil ensue, each sacrifice themselves for each other, Resistance triumphs! HEAs all the way around.
Okay, I have to admit, she found him way too easy but I’ll buy into it on principle. There is once again boinking happening to fast for my taste, but this time around, we get to learn more of this world, and its people. We never really learn why the rest of the world was destroyed just the way it is now. We do learn more about Alphas and the evil that created them. There are a few items that never really get answered, but overall, it was a good series.
I received this book from the JeepDiva for the express purposes of an honest review. The opinions and rating of this review are solely mine. Stars – 3.5, Flames - 4
Yep, soldiers created to be stronger, faster, and more dangerous than most and who find themselves enraptured by a special lady friend are my weakness. Adrian certainly fits the bill on all counts. Besides the obvious physical prowess, he is enthralled by Charity from the first moment he lays eyes on her.
The fact she's the General's daughter makes things a little tense. Well, tense-ish. More with the others than with Adrian. You know how Alphas are. They see what they want and they go for it, regardless of the obstacles in their path.
Along with the scorching romancing going on, there's also some nice resolution to the issues with the city and the Resistance. Danger! Romance! Heartache! All the things a girl needs in a book about enhanced soldiers and the women who love them!
Lots of heat in this one! It covers a lot of turmoil that is gurgling below the surface, and some serious trust issues. We finally see the bad guys brought to justice and all our alpha’s happy and in love <3
A dystopia world where the haves and have nots are clearly divided by a wall. Those who are special and stay within the wall and they are given food and shelter. It is supposed to be an utopia society. But it isn't. Charity Caruthers knows this only too well. As a daughter of one of the inner circle leaders, one would think she is treated like a princess. Not so. Instead she is a whipping boy for her father and a pawn to be married off for favours. Charity is miserable and believes living on the outside cannot be worse than living on the inside. Little does she know how desperately hungry people are on the outside.
The concept of this story is good. From the first few pages, I was intrigued. Ms. Walters sets up intrigue and a dire backdrop. Then as we learn more about Charity, I started to lose interest. From a character perspective, Charity didn't pull me in. She tries hard but is just too weak for me. Her sudden love interest in Adrian didn't do much for me either. Adrian is a product of an experiment and whilst he is designed for a reader to feel sorry for him, I did not. He is an admirable guy with good intentions. I could not connect with him. The chemistry between Adrian and Charity was okay. It felt a little forced. Their interaction led them down to a predictable conclusion. Their declarations of love and willingness to die for each other was a bit fast and odd. Still, in desperate times, people act in illogical manners.
The plot of this story is simple revenge. It is a justified revenge. It is predictable in how it is carried out plus how it ends. Between the characters and the plot, the story lost its momentum and ended up as a lighter version of stories with the same theme. This post-apocalyptic tale is recommended for romance readers who root for the underdog and like happily ever afters.
I received a free copy of this book to read and review for Wicked Reads.
In the future, Earth has a different look, a different feel and a different class system. The elite live inside the gated wall, protected by the corrupt politicians and military general that run their world. Those who live outside the walls struggle to survive both the elements and the savage military patrols. Adrian is one of those who has struggled to survive outside the walls. Except, he isn't like the others. Adrian is an Alpha.
Alphas were created to be super soldiers, born to kill, to obey without hesitation, to be true killing machines. Those who didn't live up the expectations of their trainers were terminated. Adrian was lucky, he survived his termination by sheer will alone and now he wants to overthrow those will created him.
Charity has lived inside the walls her entire life. Knowing in a split second that she had to help the poor man she found hidden in the bowels of the government building in which her father worked, she bravely found her way outside the gates. Not knowing if she was being used or followed, she let her sense of justice lead her to Adrian and the fate that awaits her.
I really enjoyed this series and now I'm anxiously awaiting to see where Ms. Walters takes me next.
3 1\2 stars I could have used more story with the sex.
This is the first book I have read by N.J. Walters. I have to be honest I had no idea it was Erotic when I requested to read the book from Netgalley to give my honest review. I normally never read erotic AKA Mommy Porn but since I requested it I decided to suck it up and read the book.
The backstory or concept is interesting and I think this book had a lot of potential is she took out the graphic sex and stuck with the story. Don't get me wrong it will be your blood flowing with no problem and N.J. Walters has a ways of painting the picture to give the readers a graphic to sex scene making you blush in your own home. N.J. Walters has a way with words the story is development, dialogue and flow of the words, bring the characters to life. This story fall in in the same pattern I see with everything under the label of romance the intra love. This story two people meet they sex, than they have more sex, than a little story, more hot sex, and finally, after a day or so, fall deeply in love. It Erotic the alpha talks dirty if that is what you are looking for its your read.
I just barley made it through. I feel like this series had so much potential, but it all falls flat on it's face with the constant sex and instant attraction and love the characters have. I can totally get behind all of that if the story behind the Alphas was more prevalent, if there was more background to the civilization inside the gate, more information on the resistance and what they were doing. Sadly, there was not a lot holding this together.
ARC provided by NetGalley in exchange for my honest review.
I'm going to give the same review to all three books in this series. I thought N.J. Walters was a good writer. I liked the story development, dialogue and flow of the words. I guess I've come to realize that when I'm reading a science fiction or fantasy story, I want that story....not an erotica story. These three stories had the makings of a decent short futuristic sci-fi, but somehow I just felt it was a set up so each story could show two people meet, have some irresistible pull towards each other, have smokin' hot sex. Then have more smokin' hot sex, and finally, after a day or so, fall deeply in love. I would have preferred to have one book, with the story of the futuristic city and the overthrow of the ruling evil council with the various love stories woven in. I will definitely read other work by this author, I think she is talented.
Adrian doesn't mind giving his girl some reassurance, "she reached out and tentatively stroked her finger down his hard length. His ***k jerked toward her. She pulled her hand back, her eyes flying to his. “He likes you,” Adrian said, deadpan." When it comes to Charity, Adrian is always primed and ready to go, “you’re still awake.” Charity’s sleepy voice made his balls pull up tight to his body. This woman only had to speak and he was instantly hard and ready. He rolled, taking her flat to the mattress with him looming over her. “You’re also insatiable.” I really enjoyed this book.
The year is 2133 in a post apocalyptic time where the haves live in a protected city under the a corrupt Council land a ruthless general and the have nots struggle to survive outside the city.
Charity Caruthers is the General's daughter and has been physically and emotional abused by him and her now dead husband all of her life. When she comes across a tortured and dying man in her father's cells, she willingly takes the man's last request to deliver a warning to the rebel leader. Standing up to her father is the scariest thing she's ever done but it's the right thing to do.
Adrian is an Alpha, a genetically enhanced human created in the City's lab and now the leader of the rebellion. When he lays eyes on Charity everything in him says she is his and he will keep her, even if she might be a spy.
These two burn hot, but like previous books in this series insta-love didn't work well for me, especially when he spent so much time away from her. In saying that, when they were together the chemistry was off the charts. There's more intimate moments than story and this couple deserved more time for their story.
The couple has their HEA and we finally get the battle between the rebellion and the General but the story ends rather abruptly leaving a sense of things unfinished. I wished we'd had a brief epilogue of what their new future looked like.
This book was previous released as 'Sweet Charity'
Charity had always known her father was evil but she hadn’t realized he was some kind of monster. Charity had been summoned to the government building by her father which was never good. When she got to her father’s office her father’s assistant told Charity he was too busy to see her. As Charity was walking through the building Charity heard two of the police talking about her father interrogating someone.Something urged Charity to find out what was going on. Charity went down to where the man was and he was hanging and it looked like his skin had been peeled off him. Charity asked the man if there was anyone he wanted her to contact for him and he told her “ Adrian Not safe General attack in three days”. Charity asked his name he said Manuel the shortly thereafter Manuel died. Charity’s father was the General. Charity’s father had forced her to marry a cruel man who was twice her age- Martin. Now she was a widow. Her husband’s death had been suspicious Charity was pretty sure her father had something to do with her husband’s death. So once again Charity was back with her father and under his thumb. Charity had been a widow for a year and lately her father was bringing up Charity getting married again. Charity then decided she was going outside the Gate that was around the inner city where all the rich and important people lived in comfort. Charity now had a chance to do something important and worn people of an attack by her father. Adrian was the leader of the resistance. Adrian was an alpha, a loner created as a weapon to be used by the General Thanks to genetic enhancements Adrian's senses were more acute, than a regular person, his reflexes were stronger , his body faster. He could also learn at an incredible speed. He was the perfect killer. But there had been a problem with the program and the scientists had decided half the alphas were to be terminated He and two other alphas had survived. It had taken weeks for Adrian to recover and he was a bitter eighteen year old. Adrian vowed to destroy the corporation that evolved him and kill the General and bring down the Gate. He would never give up he was an Alpha and Alpha’s didn’t give up. Adrian wanted what the other two Alpha’s had found- a mate- someone to trust , to want to be with them and make love to them each night. Charity had escaped the inner city and was found by Mouse and taken to Adrian when she said she had a message for Adrian only and it was from Manual. Adrian was instantly attracted to Charity and Charity feels the same and had never even seen Adrian before. I really liked this story of soul mates that had been born to be star crossed lovers but had overcome the obstacles that should have been between them. I was glad charity seen how truly evil her father really was. Also I was glad Charity did get to Adrian to help him and the resistance as well as fill in the empty spot in Adrian. This had a great plot. I liked the characters a lot. I liked the courage and strength Charity showed to do some good. I like how Adrian was determined to rid what was left of the world of the corporation as well as the General. I loved the twists and turns of this story and I recommend.
“Real courage is being afraid and doing it anyway.”
I loved some of the quotes in this book, the resonated so well and fit the situations perfectly. That was easily my favorite aspect of this read.
Alpha’s Revenge is book three in the Project Alpha series by N.J. Walters and was previously published as Sweet Charity.
Adrian is the leader of the Resistance in a post-apocalyptic dystopian era who are fighting against the corrupt government controlled by General Caruther and Piedmont Corporations. Created as a weapon and an ultimate soldier Adrian and those like him are known simply as the Alpha’s and they are all warrior and instinctual male.
“He was an Alpha, bred to be stronger, faster and smarter. But he was also a creature of instinct.”
Charity is General Caruther’s daughter who has grown up under her father’s thumb more than perhaps anyone else in this world who are suffer under his rule. When she comes across his latest victim, a member of the resistance, and finds out the general’s plans for those beyond the walls of the city who are fighting against the regime. With her newfound information she receives the courage she needs to take her life into her own hands and leaves the supposed safety of the city to find those fighting for a better life for the entire population and give them the information they need to bring down the corrupt government and her father.
I felt like the book was a little rushed. The principle was great and although I haven’t read the first two books in the series I could tell this was the culmination of the series. The speed with which everything happened though threw me. When the Charity and Adrian get together it’s so quick, literally right after they meet, and it just feels a little over the top fast. They also didn’t seem to have a real connection and the lack of trust showed quite a bit. I understand that for Adrian and how his genes basically make him zero in on the one woman meant for him and all that, but as Charity is just the average human despite being the evil general’s daughter I’m not really certain what her motives for jumping into bed with this unknown man so quickly are.
The ending felt extremely quick too. We don’t really get a good idea of how things fully turn out for the city and all the inhabitants long term. I’m not sure if the lack of that information is because there’s going to be another book, although it certainly didn’t seem set up for that, or if it was simply the author just being ‘done’ with the series too much to fully finish those wrap up thoughts or what, but I was a little miffed at the lack of complete closure.
I’m not sure if it’s in the other books, but I was a bit confused as to what happened to the world to create this crazy dystopian world the general is ruling. I felt like I was missing some key elements because I hadn’t read books one and two, but while I was not quite lost in this world I was definitely feeling a bit unsteady on my feet after having just been dropped into it with very little information.
Overall, I really enjoyed the book though. I think I’ll go back and check out books one and two now as well. The writing was great and I enjoyed the premise.
**I received an ARC of this book for my unbiased feedback and review.**
In 2133 the world is not what it once was. It has been ravaged and when the dust settled some stayed in the walls of the city to prosper while others lived outside and did their best to survive. In the Alpha Project trilogy three Alpha survivors have their stories told. They are laboratory bred men that have been created to be the perfect killing machines – until they are deemed less perfect than machines and set to be terminated. This story tells of Adrian, his soul mate and concludes one portion of the story though more could be told in a future series should the author choose to do so.
Adrian has been on his own outside the city leading the resistance for 12 years when Charity arrives to bring him the dying message of one of his men. The message causes the resistance to step up their plans to breach the gates of the city and take down General Caruthers and the ruling party. The other two alphas from books one and two make an appearance with their mates to participate in the revenge and conclusion of the trilogy.
In this series Alphas seem to know their soul mates as soon as they meet and it is no different for Adrian when he meets Charity. There are some surprises, some trust issues and some steamy scenes, a huge battle and a conclusion that is explosive in more ways than one.
Thank you to NetGalley and Carina Press for the ARC. This is my honest review.
This is the final story of the Alpha Series. As I've said before, this focuses more on the sexual part than the scifi. I can't get how Adrian easily succumbs to his desire after meeting Charity for a few minutes. My respect for his character somehow diminishes after that. As for Charity, I like her character and strength in resolve. The actions she made makes me proud of her. The ending is not as fulfilling as I hope it to be, but it is still good for the people on the outside of the gate. Anyway, it is still an entertaining read. The cover is hot though I can't comprehend how a man has abs like that.
Set in the fictional future, Charity is the daughter of the general, the evil tyrant. Manuel a dying man gives her a message for Adrian, the leader of the resistance. Adrian is an enhanced soldier the general fears. The romance was instantaneous but so sweet. This book is a keeper.
Alpha’s Revenge continues Ms Walters theme of hot, passionate and action-packed adventure; a foundation that was set by the previous books in this series.
A fast-paced novella with charming characters and the ultimate climatic end; Alpha’s Revenge is sure to captivate readers and is a guaranteed to be devoured in one sitting.
Alpha’s Revenge is the third book and final installment in the Project Alpha series. I really enjoyed this story it was a quick, hot read with great characters.

Somehow this cover reminds me of Top Gun Tom Cruise on steroids. A lot of them. Doesn't quite convey what I imagined the cyborg Adrian would look like. Oh well, don't judge a book...
Great ending to this series. Lots of suspense and drama in this fast paced read. I loved both Charity and Adrian is oh so sexy. I was hooked from beginning to end. I loved it!
