On the day Davan Shanahan was assigned as doctor on the military pleasure ship, she was having a bad hair day, which was actually an understatement. Her hair looked as though she'd placed her hand on an antique generator. Every dark auburn hair on her head was repelling each other and standing on end. When Cair Ghrian met Davan, he was coming off one major drunkfest. Known far and wide as The Black Sun, the scythelord of Amhantar was a prince of the royal house, an infamous Deathwielder and a force to be reckoned with.especially when riled. Hating his assignment as the captain of what everyone in the universe called a flying cathouse, Cair's first words to her were, "By the Goddess, couldn't you even be bothered to comb that frizzy mess before reporting to me, woman?" Right from the start, Davan and Cair pushed each other's buttons. She loathed his arrogance and dominating personality. He looked upon her as a nuisance and happily joined the rest of the crew in playing tricks on the new doctor. Thrown together, they would rub each other the wrong way until the rubbing got hot, steamy and incredibly intense.

I believe that this book is the first in the Windreapers series. Because it was impossible for me to look up the word "Foehn" in the goodreads search box and I still have no idea what it means, to me this book could have used an alternate title. Possibly "Reaper? I Hardly Knew Her!" If any goodreads authors or marketing people are reading this post and want me to retitle your book, feel free to email me.
Okay, this book has a load of terrible reviews, so I just want to state upfront that this book isn't that bad. It isn't that great either, but it is a comfortably midrange Ellora's Cave book. Maybe what I am trying to say was it is pretty bad, but I liked it a lot anyways. Sometimes I have that problem. That is why I am reviewing Pleasure's Foehn and not The Help.
This one was a really slow starter- I skipped like the first 20 pages because I was looking for sex. There was a lot of boring spaceship shit that I didn't really care about. It was like a star wars universe book disconnected from a popular movie that spawned it. The second half of the book seems like it was copy pasted from a different first half and I actually quite liked it.
A lot of people are also upset that the hero punches his whore ex girlfriend in the face, and that she is then raped to death by an alien with two penises and forced to die giving birth to hundreds of alien baby lizards. That sounds bad when I write it here, but to anyone who has read a lot of old skool bodice ripper type romance, it was a pretty familiar variation on the "asshole hero" trope that wouldn't be out of place in a Rosemary Rogers or Kathryn Woodwiss. Provided that people in the 80s were more interested in aliens with 2 penises. The internet hadn't been invented then, however, and women weren't so wierd.
I mean, its an Ellora's Cave book that they gave out for free. It is like a rule that there has to be some fucked up shit. However, Ellora's Cave is falling down on the job because this book did not contain a scene where the heroine was forced to wear a see through dress, which I had previously thought was written into the contract of all their writers.
Really aside from that, there was nothing in here that you wouldn't find in a mainstream romance. It was rather poorly paced but not terrible. I have no idea who I would recomend this to- perhaps people who wish that a terrible sci fi channel series had more naked werewolves in it, but I enjoyed it well enough and would probably read the other books in the series. As far as free downloads go, I have read loads that are worse.
Spoiler Alert Please give this review a read before dismissing this book. I was noticing that this book did not get alot of great reviews. Mine may be a borderline rating but this does not mean I do not like the book but rather had some issues with it but I by the end I do look forward to reading the second book. My issue was that the first half of the book had too many quick plot ideas that could have been fleshed out better. Such as when the two main characters meet they are annoyed with eachother and verbally fight alot, but with the next chapter they realize they are being bullies and can be friends. Then they quickly like eachother. Soon being made to marry by his mother but they seem okay with it. Then she gets kidnapped. If you stick with it so far keep going. This is one of those books where the end is much better than the end. I liked where it was going in the end and could see all the potential books for the future and have my own wishes who should next get books. I would have to see with the second book whether the writting gets better but it is my honest opinion that it will. Se please give this author a chance.
Ugh. This book sucked total ass. I don't know why I even bothered. I only got it cause this was one of the first books that I got for my Nook. And most importantly it was free.
I should have known better when I realized it was an Ellora's Cave book. In my experience those are books that have a slight plot with a major dose of sex. Basically porn for women. There are a few that are well written, with a plot that is actually fleshed out. This book, unfortunately missed the mark by a mile.
The fact that I spent time reading this is a shame. I only hope that this was the author's first book published and her other works were better. I do know that I won't bother in finding out.
This was more than one story, and with so many sub plots it really should have been broken up and fleshed out the individual components to create two if not three books. Really liked the premise of doctor on the spaceship brothel and the less than perfect and perpetually drunk captain. The characters worked, but the shifts in plotline were awkward.
Interesting world building and twist toward the end. Some of the story lines came to an abrupt stop which was a little unsatisfactory. This is a long series and Pleasure's Foehn is the first book.
I'm whittling down my TBR...purchased this in 2012...its now 2020. Title this review: I just can't get into Scottish brogues in space. The story was fun, but I will not be continuing this series.
