Joanne writes books that turn responsible women into bad, negligent mothers.

"Obsessive" or "driven" don't even begin to do her justice...

Joanne wrote what she thought was going to be her first three books in 99 days, then went on with the labourious tasks of editing and judiciously applying retcon (can you call it that when it's all still effectively 2000-odd pages of drafts?) to make the story internally consistent; that continues to this day in a much more manageable 7 volume story arc with one more waiting to be written.

To keep herself sane during this process, she wrote another two books - the first one of which is Danann Frost Falls from Grace.

Joanne firmly believes that having a Knight in Shining Armour ride in on the Deus Ex Machina at the last moment is no way to tell a story; she also believes that everyone should get exactly what they deserve - good, bad or otherwise.

Joanne has two children, a loving husband and a laptop with the letters worn off the keys.

There's a free PDF Taster edition of Danann Frost Falls from Grace, about the first quarter of the book, available for download here.

Why haven't more people read this book?!? It's madness! This is a FANTASTIC love story!
It begins in the 1800's when Seth, a vampire or "Dark One", sees an angel for the very first time. She can't remember her given name when she's not in her plane of existence so he gives her one - Danann. In over 800 years Seth, Prince of the Galways, has never been in love. Being an angel, Danann's never been touched at all. They spend time together and fall in love. Her devotion to Seth causes her to make the choice to Fall from Grace, which is an exceptionally rare occurrence for an angel. She makes her descent back to Earth and that's when everything goes horribly wrong. Through a series of false assumptions and extreme misunderstandings, they are seperated and do not meet again until about 200 years later. Their reunion is bittersweet. Seth is upset about losing her so many years ago and comes back as a demanding, arrogant, asshole with that "You are mine" caveman mentality. Honestly, I found their game of cat and mouse quite sexy even with him barking commands at her and telling her who she can and can't spend time with. Danann disappears every chance she can get and Seth always finds her. To make matters more complicated, Danann cannot go into the light as a condition of her Fall. If she does, she bursts into thousands of pieces and does not exist again until nightfall, losing a piece of her memory during the process. So everytime Seth begins to make progress with her, she makes a mistake, gets hit by sunlight, and forgets most of what has happened between them. It's frustrating and exciting at the same time. I simply cannot count the number of times that the two of them distance themselves based on simple misunderstandings. A small improvement in communication skills would have solved all of their problems, but where is the fun in that? :)
My first complaint - and it's a minor one - is the use of the word "whilst" throughout the book. It bothered me, but it wasn't anything I couldn't pass over. Secondly, there are several chapters before Danann and Mia's "secret mission" that slowed down the pace of the book dramatically. I skimmed over a lot of paragraphs because the story became a little dull. But once Danann and Mia took off, I was absorbed in the story again.
To anyone who hasn't read this, you should! I bought the kindle version for 2.99 (Thank you Amazon), but I love it so much that I'm going to buy the paperback too just so I can display it on my shelf. Awesome job, Valiukas. You Rock!

Well that was an unexpected pleasure. This is the story of an angel named Danann who happens upon a lonely vampire who thinks she is a goddess. His name is Seth and the setting is Ireland. They fall in love but to be together, she must fall from Grace. She decides to do so in order to be with Seth and through a series of unexpected circumstances and bad decisions, they are separated for 200 years post fall. The setting for the story and the love affair is told in 3rd person removed but switches to 1st person (Danann's perspective) once she falls. Although the book is only 300 plus pages, it seemed longer for some reason perhaps because I was reading on the Kindle.

I loved the flow of this book. Danann was ever evolving and dealing with the challenges of having fallen. She could not go into sunlight because she was no longer of the light. Any physical contact with humans resulted in Danann experiences their emotional state be it lust, anger or whatever. She learns to survive without Seth because she believes she has to. Seth finds her after 200 years and he believes she has stayed away from him because she did not want him. The kind, sweet Seth is gone and has been replaced by an angry possessive man that Danann does not understand. The bulk of the book focuses on their continual miscommunications and mistrust. Normally, I would have gotten frustrated by the endless dialog around these two characters overwhelming one another but that was not the case. I fell in love with the character Danann and her journey to return to the angelic plane and fight for her light because she believed that love was not a sin. There are other key character's in the story that flesh out and add dimension to Danann and Seth.

This is the first book of this series. Yes, there is a cliffhanger and it's irritating. However, you will be so exausted by Danann and Seth's journey that you will be glad to put it down for a bit to catch your breath. The next book has been written but not published yet according to the author's website. I am 100% committed to reading it.

"I believed that and I clung to it as, once again, I Danann Frost Fell From Grace"

I absolutely LOVED this book!!! This book was recommended to me several months ago and sadly it just sat on my TBR list until now.

This uniquely written book is about Danann Frost an angel who Falls From Grace after she falls madly in love with Prince Seth a Dark One (Vampire).

Once Danann falls, Seth sends her away telling her to never come back, it's heartbreaking to read, but he still loves her but miscommunication seems to be their main difficulty throughout this book. He was only trying to protect her, because she was in imminent danger and he planned to track her later and flee to safety together for the happily ever after, but their fairy tale ended there.

He searches unsuccessfully for Danann and they both spend 200 years apart lost in their agony of love for one another. Their love story is truly epic as Seth has no boundaries to what he will do get Danann back even if he makes her angry in the process. Upon seeing eachother Seth is a complete barbarian the way he behaves toward Danann, truly a complete asshole but I love every minute of it! He's incredibly sexy and even more so when he's angry. His angry, possessive alpha behavior reminds me of the Archangel Raphael from Nalini Singh's Angel's Guild series which I love. Seth is ruthless and savage in his means that know no limits to make Danann Frost his Godess once again.

At one part in the book I loved it when Danann in heat of anger slaps Seth across his face painfully hard but instead of being angry he grabs her hand while smirking and kisses her palm, telling her that he doesn't want her to hurt herself when she slaps him. *sigh* Definitly hot romantic moments. This book has plenty of amazing sexual tension because it seems everytime I turn a page Seth and Danann have another misunderstanding drawing an emotional wedge further in their relationship but making the book so much more fun to read! Seth is possesive, jealous, angry, demanding while Danann is very stubborn and willful and makes it her goal not to let Seth rule her life, but when he comes back the fun has just begun for me as the reader ;-)

"Seth, I never thought to return to you because I believed that you did not want me; that you had sent me away. My King.......I Fell From Grace For You . Does that not tell you all you needed to know about how I felt?"

"My Godess, if only you could feel for me now as you did then.....Danann save me, my Godess, say that you love me. Promise to love me, only me always."

Danann Frost Falls From Grace is a breath of fresh air in the PNR genre.

I would recommend this book to those who love PNR and also fans of The Notebook. It reminds me of The Notebook with a paranormal flair. I simply Loved it!!!

Thanks Cat for the recommendation and also thanks to Mrs. V for your help in persuading me to read it :-)

I LOVE THIS BOOK! That pretty much sums it up, i'm not posting much for review right now as I will be hosting this book on my blog the week of Feb 7th, I will post my full review after that. But for now take my advice, get this book, it is a MUST read!!

I will start out by saying that this is one of the best books I have read in a long time! I LOVE this story and can't wait for more! I am going to do my best to not give away too much because I believe that even in snippets from me you wouldn't get the full story and everything wrapped up with it. I don't think my words will ever do this book justice, my vocabulary just isn't big enough or diverse enough to fully portray my feelings on what a good read it is. I have to say my favorite character is Ash (Asher) he is just mmmm yummy to me, that vamp could park his fangs in me any day!! But this is a story about Danann and Seth an Angel and a Dark One, but ultimately it's about Danann and her fall from grace and having to live 200 years in the dark, awaiting another chance to win back her "Light". Danann takes you on a journey through her thoughts, feelings, ups, downs, love, and pain in searching for love. You will be sucked into this book so fast you won't even realize what goes on around you. Kids need fed, dog needs to go outside, hubby needs some lovin??? you won't have a clue, as your whole world will become about Danann and HER life. What happens to her you ask...well you will have to read it and find out. But you may not have to wait long as the author has graciously give me a few copies of her e-book to give away!!! Yup you may get your very own copy free!! Just go HERE to enter and please tell all your friends!!

I give this a 5/5 on my rating scale.

Review October 25th/26th

In this sweeping paranormal romance, Joanne Valiukas combines myth and legend to craft the the love story of Danann and Seth. Danann Frost is an angel who falls in love with Seth, a vampire prince. When forced to choose, Danann falls from grace to follow her heart, only for a cruel misunderstanding to separate her from her love. Two hundred years later, Danann and Seth are reunited. Can they forgive each other, or will Danann give up on love and win back her wings?

Danann Frost Falls From Grace is character driven, and the love story between Danann and Seth is the focus. The opening chapters where they meet and fall in love, are richly developed and will satisfy any romantic. I felt this beginning was a real strength of the book, and drew me into the saga.Valiukas has given a lot of thought to her mythology. She has developed her own lore for her vampires which is both familiar and original. I particularly like the combination of an angel and vampire falling in love.

Valiukas has developed distinct characters that are interesting and believable. After the separation we follow Danann to Australia where , because of the curse laid upon her by Archangel Uriel when she fell, she has made a life for herself within the vampire community. One of the more unique aspects to Danann is her inability to exist in the light, she shatters when exposed to sunlight and this adds interesting possibilities and complications. She struggles with the loss of her angelic abilities, even after 200 years and we learn that she has periodically sought to have her ‘light’ returned. Danann has a companion in Asher but has never really embraced the life she has, still yearning for Seth and feeling as if she doesn’t belong. This vulnerability makes her a sympathetic character.

Seth is an unknown quantity when he reappears in Danann’s life. His intentions are initially unclear, Seth never understood why Danann left him and he is bitter. I liked Seth as a hero – he is loyal and honourable and when he learns the truth behind their separation grieves for what may have been. His strength and obvious love for Danann make him an appealing protagonist.

Trust is understandably an issue for the pair when they are reunited and Valiukas uses that to sustain the conflict. Given that it is a romance it is inevitable that love will win out, however the ending has a suprising twist that doesn’t neccessarily provide a traditional happy ever after ending. The conclusion is a set up for the continuation in the sequel.

While the story is compelling, I think in places the flow and pace could have benefited from some trimming where the detail extends the story, without moving it forward. There are ideas that are unique to the book, such as Danann’s light sensitivity and her effect on humans that could have been better explored to provide additional conflict and interest. I also found I was distracted by the italics used for emphasis, and in the latter half of the book the phrasing and dialogue could be awkward and stilted at times.

Joanne Valiukas has created an imaginative, sweeping romance with characters that you can care about. It’s a timely publication given the current popularity of paranormal romance and urban fantasy, and offers something original and interesting.

I have nothing but the highest praise for this book, it really did blow me away. Every review that I've read was glowing and after finishing it I understand why! The synopsis had me intrigued from the get-go. This is a love story that takes the saying "opposites attract" to a whole new level. What two supernatural beings could be further apart on the good vs evil scale than an angel and a vampire? But that's not the only thing that differentiates them. The two main characters have lead entirely different lives and their mannerisms and thought processes are also very different.

Danann puts everything on the line for her beloved Seth when she chooses to fall from grace for him. She wakes up on Earth after the painful experience of being de-angelfied only to be separated from her soul mate because of a miscommunication. Danann finds herself alone and forced to live a life that she's not accustomed to. I imagine going from being an angel to a human is quite the adjustment! Unfortunately for her, she doesn't have it easy at all. Her new existence is full of tragedy and heartbreak. At first Dannan's new weaknesses worried me. She becomes very dependent on others and needs to rely on vampires for many things. She gives off a strong useless vibe, which for me in a main character is a bad thing! But in her case it works. This book is probably not for you if you're looking for a kick ass heroine. Dannan's strength comes from within. The author writes this book in such a way that you end up really grasping this fallen angel's reality. It's hard to know a person until you've spent a day in their shoes and this proves to be very true in this tale.

This novel really takes off when Seth waltzes back into Danann's life. I loved the extreme contrasts between the two of them. Their worlds are so different that it's hard for them to understand each other. All of the assumptions that people typically make about others don't hold up in their case. They have a hard time understanding each other's feelings and actions and as a result Danann and Seth often think the worst of each other. After having been separated for 200 years because of a flawed assumption they are reluctant to trust each other (with good reason!). Their minds and hearts are pulling them in opposite directions. Danann and Seth feel inexplicably drawn to each other but at the same time their preconceptions clash to the extreme. Many of their mistakes are obvious to the reader but Joanne Valiukas' writing style makes you understand why they're not able to see what's right in front of their eyes.

It's hard to put into words how much I adored this book. Danann Frost Falls from Grace is about overcoming differences, how dangerous assumptions can be and how in the end, love conquers all. The dark vs light imagery in this story is truly remarkable. Don't be fooled by the title and cover of this book because it's an incredible tale and when you finish reading it you'll find yourself wanting more.

First of all I must say I totally enjoyed this romance. Being a true romantic at heart and loving the parnormal books I was left with an ache in my heart, wanting more and wanting to know where this love took Danann and Seth once again. Angel and Vampire not your normal vampire romance. Unique !
In this parnormal romance, Joanne has created a world around Danann a Fallen Angel ** Seths godess** and Seth A vampire prince. Danann falls from grace, to be with her love Seth to be only thrown into a world of hurt, betrayl and darkness.Danann is saved from her death bed after falling to be taken and cared for by the priests sister and after years pass and Deidre dies Danann goes to Australia and lives her life with vampires. She works at a night club during the night, She feels safe with them, she can only walk in the night due to her curse and lives her life around the ones who make her feel safe. If she walks in the light she ceases to exist , she shatters and often looses her memory.
She is unable to have contact with humans, there touch brings out the physical aspects , she feels how they feel whether it be hate, lust or anything, she feels what they feel and she is unable to stop herself and this can get her into alot of trouble at times.
The story continues Seth and Danann are reunited after 200 years of being seperated, can they forgive each other, find there true love again or will all evail and Danann reaches to find her light and regain her wings.
The characters development is fantastic, the chapters well in unisen, flowing freely and on a uphill bolt to the end. With so much detail it is important that you read every detail, this all adds to a fantastic read. Be sure to read the Glossary in the begining of the book this will also give light to certain aspects involved throughout this book.
I enjoyed the characters much so, falling in love with Ash and Seth both there love for Danann on differnt levels but unique.
Seth is a romantic at heart his love for Danann passionate there love an unsure battle throughout,a rollercoaster but will true love find there way.
The ending was a cliffhanger and we are now left to wander how Dananns life goes on from her confrontation with Uriel and once again falling from Grace.
I recomend this to all who enjoy a great love story, it contains some *saucy* parts, ;) and the ending not your every day happy ending but leaves it open for more to come.. Can not wait for **Embraces the Darkness**

So...a couple of days ago I read a book called Danann Frost Falls from Grace. Let me tell ya, I absolutely loved it. It starts out in 1800's Ireland with a vampire, Prince Seth, who meets an Angel. When said Angel is on the human plane she cannot remember her name so she asks him to give her one. He decides to name her Danann. They fall in love and she decides that she will not give him up and go back home so she decides to fall from grace. As soon and she does this Seth and his village is under attack. Seth see's Danann and doesn't know that she has fallen and notices that the enemy is closing on her, so he tells her to get away so he can protect her. She thinks that he really meant for her to leave because he didn't want her. So 200 years pass. She's "moved on" he finds her and basically demands that she be "his". She's been heartbroken for 200 years because the love of her life rejected her and left her to the wolves and he is pissed and bent on revenge because he thinks that she left him. The whole situation was a BIG misunderstanding

Anywhoo....I absolutely love this story. As soon as I read the plot I knew that I would like it...I mean come on! A vampire and an Angel falling in love? What's not to love right?! All they had to do was communicate and things would have been good. But what's the fun in that right?! I just fell in love with the characters...the story was original. I just don't know what else to say but Bravo Joannne Valiukas!! I really hope that the next installment of this series gets published soon because I can't wait!! If you are reading this please get off your asses and get a copy of this book right NOW!! It's well worth it!

As a reader I usually like to remain safe with my choices I read, I usually like to stick with Authors and genre's that are familiar to me. The only way I will give a book a chance is when I hear so many good things about it. So for Christmas when my sister gave me Danann Frost Falls From Grace, my first thoughts were "what is this, and what am I in for". My sister was very persistent that i read it straight away, and she said I will not be able to put it down, once I start reading it!

I left the book for about a week then I decided I would give it a go..... My first thoughts when reading were, this is something different, this is a little more grown up to what I am use to reading.....After that first chapter I was addicted, I was a women obsessed with what was happening, I could not put this book down, the author had bewitched me so much that she had made me able to give my all to the book and feel like I was not only reading it but was a part of it.

Danann Frost Falls From Grace, has everything you want in a story, and the biggest thing of this story is that you can tell the author has put her all into this, she has put her blood, sweat, and tears. She has gone into great detail and pain, to make you understand and appreciate the lives of her characters as they get you to walk in their shoes for this story.

Danann Frost falls From Grace, has romance, betrayal, fantasy, love, humor. It takes you into a world where you can dream, but these dreams are set in reality.....Its a story that is about a angel named Danann Frost that falls from grace, for her love a dark one named Seth, known also as a vampire. Their new found love is torn apart due to dark forces, that want to destroy them at any cost, the odds are against them. The author is cheeky as she keeps you guessing and keeps you on your toes till the last page of the book, and even then you are still on the edge and need more, it makes you want and desperately need for the next part of the story to come out.

One thing I did find is that at first you seem to think that this story is about the love of the two main characters, but as you read on you see that it too is Danann's journey, its shows how she grows and evolves.

Joanne Valiukas, I want to say a big thank-you to you, you have made it so I can put my trust into new authors and genre's. I feel I can not say a negative thing about this story and what you have wrote has made me not only want but have a huge need for me. I need to read the sequel to this story, I want to read the sequel, hurry and bring out the next chapter of this story. You are so brilliant to have let me feel like I was one with this story, this is a must read.........

This is the first in the Danann Frost paranormal romance series. Valiukas has created a world within our world which includes shapeshifting vampires, living vampires, angels and archangels (who are both Seraphim), innocent all consuming love and devastating betrayal.

The female lead, a lovely young naive angel, mistaken for a Goddess swan lady, is discovered by Seth and named Danann. She later gives herself the last name of Frost.

Seth, the male lead, is a very rare born vampire who even though he is 839 years old is still treated as a child by his parents who are only about 200 years older than himself. Even though he is what the Seraphim call a Dark One, Danann can see his soul is full of light except for a very small dark spot.

Their forbidden relationship starts out in such a sweet funny manner. Danann is all "child-like in her innocence" while he is very experienced and perplexed at how to handle her and her continuous questions.

The first 17 chapters read like a fairy tale being told to the reader. In narrative form, we are told the story of Danann and Seth's meeting in Ireland and their young relationship. It is a sweet fairy tale that goes horribly wrong - a cautionary tale to remind us of what happens when we assume. Told this way, I found it hard to continue to read, unable to relate to the characters, but was rewarded when making myself read past page 80.

Chapter 18 skips forward 200 years to present day Australia and is now told in Danann's first person point of view and the story turns into a very good paranormal romance and the characters come alive for the reader. Danann's punishments for Falling are inventive and imaginative and the story has several twists before ending in a kind of a cliffhanger. There isn't a "happily ever after" yet at this point but the potential is there in the sequel, Danann Frost Embraces The Darkness, due out June 12, 2011.

On the sexy scale of 1-4, I rate this as a 3. I would have given this book a 5 star content rating if not for the first 17 chapters being told the way they were - as a sweet tale but in a dry manner like something from Grimm's Fairy Tales or Aesop's Fables. But I am very glad I continued because I would have missed out on a very compelling read. I think fans of the paranormal romance, paranormal angel and vampire genres will enjoy this book.

I really wish I could have given this book three stars, but I couldn't quite bring myself to do it. There were things I like about this piece, but there were also a few negatives, so let me start with those and get them out of the way.

The book opens in third person narrative, but the point of view shifts back and forth between Seth and Danann in the middle of scenes, which I found distracting. Then, suddenly we are moved into first person narrative as Danann tells her own story. This improved the pov issues considerably and I was able to relax into the story a bit more until the bizarre switch back to third person for the last few pages.

An excessive use of italics for emphasis also began to irritate me, especially when some of the words emphasised just didn't make sense. I found myself stopping my reading to sound them out just to be sure I wasn't imagining it.

I did find myself skim reading chunks of the middle section of the book too as it became very repetitive, with what was essentially the same argument/scene playing out between Seth and Danann many times. As an editor, I would have made a few hefty cuts to improve the pace. The dialogue in this middle section also became rather stilted and unbelievable.

So those were my gripes, but, as I said, there were also things I enjoyed about the book. I loved the story idea. The limitations placed on a fallen angel were well conceived and original and I wish they had been explored more deeply. The idea of an angel loving a vampire and her subsequent fall interested me and it was that initial interest that kept me reading. Danann and Seth are both great characters and the spark is there, it was just that, for me, some of problems with the book eclipsed that at times. I also liked some of the secondary characters such as Mia and Asher. Both came across well and played important roles in the story.

As I said, I wish I could have stretched to three stars for this book as it did have promise, but sadly I could not overlook some of the problems that spoilt my enjoyment of the piece.

What a journey! Please Joanne Valiukas...give us more!! You have left us hanging, you have left poor Danann hanging!!

I have to say this was one of the most emotional journeys a book has ever taken me on. Your writing had a way of making me feel like Danann was a part of me. Her character is so relatable... and perceptive...and smart!

The descriptions in your writing are so vivid, I feel like I have seen all the places you take us to, even though I have never been there.

No questions are unanswered. Too many times I have read a book and wondered about certain things, only to get to the end of the book and never know. Though I have questions for the second book, as to what will happen, etc, I just know Danann will demand the answers to the questions we ask along the way.

Very predictably, my favourite part of the book is 'the swelling sickness'...written so...delicately. I loved it! It had me laughing...and gasping with my hand over my mouth wondering what on earth was coming next!

Finally, we all have to ask...what wonderful men does Joanne Valiukas have in her life that she can create a character like Seth? Strong and fierce yet gentle and so very lovable. What girl doesn't want a strong man who would move heaven for her...

Please....PLEASE JOANNE VALIUKAS (yes, I'm shouting)....where is the next one?????

i loved how the novel progressed from the ancient to the modern world and how Danann had made a life of herself amidst her pain over Seth's rejection. i liked the fact that the vampires were not stereotyped as savage predators but ones who own businesses, have jobs, go shopping and even surf. i admired the author's creativity in describing Danann's punishment. it is certainly one of the most brilliant and original writing i have ever read.
Danann and Seth's reunion and its aftermath are the highlights of the book. i never thought that an angel and vampire would make for an explosive combination much less a story that kept me riveted to its pages.
Danann Falls From Grace is filled with fascinating characters and is pure enjoyment from start to finish. i smiled, laughed, frowned, felt sad and experienced a gamut of emotions. Joanne Valiukas's imagination has created a page-turner that kept me reading and reading and reading. when i reached the last page, i wanted more and with a sequel in sight, i hope to get my wish soon!

There can’t be many people who can think up a story about an Angel – a creature of the Light being tutored by Archangel Gabriel no less – and a Dark One (read: Vampire) falling in passionate love. Ms Valiukas must have a fertile imagination, that’s all I can say about this wonderful idea for a plot.

She is an artist when it comes to describing and our first sight of Danann, the Angel, is “…the young woman unfurled the most beautiful, feathery white wings.” Seth, the Dark One, is spellbound by her and calls her his Goddess, which is fair enough since every time they touch they’re showered in golden sparkles. But this can be no ordinary romance because the pair are poles apart – and more. When the Seraphim discover what’s happened, her punishment for falling in love with a Dark One is banishment and Danann, that fragile, ethereal creature, “falls from grace”, exiled to a life of cruelty.

This is a story of pure fantasy but delight. Who’d have thought that Archangel Uriel would turn out to be hateful? And the reader constantly asks how Danaan can possible survive for hundreds of years living on the edge of humanity with a group of vampires. Misunderstandings have lead to Seth and Danaan’s separation and Seth is now out for revenge.

As the story develops, and Danaan tries to regain the Light, it becomes inhabited by an assortment of juicy characters who are either bent on her well-being or on her destruction. It’s action-packed with a very surprising, unpredictable, ending. I recommend and congratulation Ms Valiukas on her fabulous imagination and ability to make it real. I understand there's going to be a sequel to look forward to.

I liked this book and didn't like this book all at the same time. How is that possible? There is a wonderful story here, but it is buried and in need of pruning.

The novel begins with backstory, Danann's fall from grace, which is imperative to the narrative, but it means so much more once it is given the context of the main story, her struggle to regain her Light. Without that context and conflict, it comes off flat. Therefore, it is over eighty pages before I really connected with the character of Danann. Her backstory is so much more interesting once you gain perspective on it. It would have been even more interesting if it had been revealed a little at a time, trimmed down and told as flashbacks and dreams. Don't get me wrong, the story needs an introduction, but if it were me, I would have started with Uriel casting Danann out and with Seth's dismissal of her, then skipped to present day from there.

Also, because the backstory is so neatly laid out at the beginning of the book, there are no surprises. Everything is revealed. The reader knows what happened between the characters, is aware that it is all a big misunderstanding, and then spends the rest of the book waiting for the characters to figure that out too, which can be frustrating.

I do, however love Danann and Seth -and Asher and Mia too. Joanne Valiukas created something special. The characters are wonderfully rich and I would rather have spent more time with these four than all the minor characters, interesting though they may have been...

Seth who is a vampire(Dark One) longs to find love and happiness after many years of boredom stumbles across a woman at the Lake (Ireland) and becomes instantly entranced by her little does he know she is an Angel.

I loved the forbidden love between the Angel and Vampire- and the consquences for that love. This book grabbed me and I couldn't read it fast enough.

What I thought was interesting was the switching from 3rd to 1st person though at first it confused me but after a page or so, I fell comfortably back into the story. I believe this is the first book I ever read written that way and to me it was very unique.

I liked as well the transition from 1800's Ireland to Modern day Melbourne, it flowed very well. The characters were also well written, though I found myself getting a bit frustrated with Seth for a bit for his bitterness towards Danann.

Overall I loved this book and am eagerly waiting for the sequel because I want to know what happens next- oops almost gave away the ending of this book.

Would I recommend? Yes I believe this is nicely done debut for Joanne and I can't wait for the next book.

I think the plot of this book had great potential but I feel the writing was lacking. I wasn't captivated by the story or the characters. Seth was just over-bearing and Dannan was all over the place, I mean seriously make a decision and stick with it.

About 80 percent of the story was Dannan eating, sleeping, showering, or talking about doing these things in more detail than necessary. I just think the writing was missing that pull thats has you unable to put it down.

So after struggling through I finally made it to the end, the final show down, the big battle the entire book has been building up to. The big bang was not more than a little pop. She learnt to love, took her light, and after all Dannan's complaing about how much she dislikes living as she does, she falls from grace again no better than when she went into the 'great battle'.

So basic sum up; good plot idea, thus the three stars, story itself maybe two stars.

OH Seth and Danann just can't catch a break! These two just keep getting knocked down and their relationship torn apart. I was so frustrated when neither of them would believe the other but at the same time I loved it. Seth tries so hard to win her and would give anything to keep her safe. He was such a wonderful character. Danann was amazing, I actually found myself getting upset with her when she thinks Seth doesn't want her, and happy when he professes his undying love for her.

This book was fantastic and can't wait to read the next one, if any1 deserves a happy ending its these two.

This book was incredible. I thought Twilight was good but this was so much better. I want the sequel so bad, I can't believe everyone doesn't know about this book. The story is intense and the characters are stuck in my head. I've read this book three times since January and it's always in my head. everyone has to read it. Please.

A different take on a vampire/angel romance. I think this is the only book I've come across where an angel and a vampire actually fall in love.

This is one of those books where I'm going back and forth on how I feel about it. I thought the story was interesting enough but there was a lot of repetition in what the characters were thinking and doing. A lot. It's okay the first time or two but when you're constantly retreading old ground it really slows down the book. Beyond that, Danann has a few memory lapses which, while they are legitimately explained in the story, they take to narrative backwards in a very jarring manner. The memory lapses and subsequent narrative backsteps contribute in a big way to the repetition.

I had a really tough time with the beginning of this book. In fact, I started it then I put it down for about a month and a half before deciding to bite the bullet and just finish it already. I freely admit that once the story kicked forward into the present it really picked up and I started to enjoy it more, but it was a tough ride up until that point.

I liked Danann well enough but, as I mentioned before, her memory losses were killing me. She'd have these big epiphanies and then *boom* memory loss. She'd forget everything leading up to the revelation as well as the revelation itself. Seth didn't help matters with his secrecy and well-intentioned lies. Actually, I can't even say that they're well-intentioned. He lied to her because he was afraid he'd lose her if she knew the truth. They were very self-serving lies. Despite that, I liked him. I can understand where he was coming from with all the pain he'd been put through. I don't sanction lying to the love of your life over big life altering events, but I can accept it in the course of the story.

While the overall arc for this particular story is tied up, there are a lot of questions left unanswered. I see that there's a sequel coming out in mid-2011 so I'm sure those dangling threads will be tied off and tidied up. I'm still waffling over how I feel, though. I liked it well enough that I want to know how Danann and Seth end up but I'm not madly in love with it at this point.

I don't know. I have confusion. And now I want waffles.

THOUGHTS/OPINION:

First take a vampire (aka Dark one) throw in a an Angel who does have human modesty and you have the plot give or take. The fact that Seth (aka dark one) thinks that Danann (aka angel) is a goddess (hence the name) and that Danann is really an angel but doesn’t tell Seth makes a pretty good love problem. Also throw in that Danann cannot be with Seth unless she falls from grace which she does (hence the title) Danann gets a rude awakening because falling isn’t anything like she images.

This story takes us all over the place during lots of different times. Danann is cursed there is betrayal and hurt and well after all love but can it conquer is basically the whole plot. This is a character driven book so if you don’t like the characters you are going to be in trouble.

THINGS I LIKED:

- I did like the aspect of a vampire and angel love which is why I picked this book to begin with. I am obsessed with Angels and I love any story that has to do with them. I also liked the idea that someone from the light can fall in love with someone who is supposed to be dark.

- There is wonderful mix of mythology and own creation in this story that makes it unique besides the angel and vampire mix. The vampire lore is different and to me so was some of the angel lore that I’ve come to read. Making this a well-built fleshed out world building… well world.

- I did enjoy the fact that two men were introduced and the fact that character loved each one in her own way. I knew who I wanted her to end up with but I also appreciated the whole falling in love in different ways.

THINGS I DIDN'T LIKE:

- OMG seriously a cliff hanger I could’ve done without I wanted my HEA I needed my HEA after reading this book. It has A LOT of details. Other than that little bit (but important) note I did enjoy the book.

Here is the good and bad (for me) about this book.

If I'm dishing out stars for a storyline then I'm giving this story a 4 stars because I really did enjoy the storyline, the characters and all of that. I was caught up in it, no doubt. Vampires, angels... it was a compelling paranormal read.

BUT this book was not for me because of the explicit sex throughout and the swearing. I'm a girl who personally likes her books clean. For that I give one star.

I hate endings that leave me hanging. This one sure did. Where was my resolution and happily ever after?! After ALL that?

I received this as an e-book for review. My thanks for that.

I found this book sexy, fascinating, and engaging. The main character was incredibly vulnerable through circumstance, but I enjoyed how she handled it and how the other characters played their part in it all. Joanne Valiukas makes unbelievable characters, believable and very enjoyable. She has urban fantasy writing down to a craft. Angels and vampires work uniquely well in the supernatural atmosphere she created. I really enjoyed this book and look forward to reading the next one to follow in the series. I want to know what comes next.

My thoughts:
I thought this was a fantastic story! This was a new idea for me - angel meets vampire and ends up falling from grace.

Joanne creates wonderfully thought out characters and places them in a world that has been built with imagination and focus. The attention to detail can be seen in all aspects of the story, and because of it the story comes alive. This book will draw you in and not let go until the end!

What are you willing to sacrifice for love? What is too much? How long is too long? Can love really be that strong? You will have to read to find out!

Not my type of book at all- the reviews did not mention vampires etc. Have given it to my daughter in law to read, she loves these type of books so will give her review when finished. 20.1.11- she advises she couldn't read it either, couldn't follow the story as it jumped too much from scene to scene & didn't seem to have a theme. Just our opinions- maybe others think it is great but all personal choice.
