Bernard Waber was the youngest in a creative family. At age 8, he ushered in a movie theater after school, so he often saw only the last ten minutes of a movie. He made a game of inventing beginnings and middles. When he returned from a tour of duty in World War II, he entered the Philadelphia College of Art. With a diploma and a new wife, he traveled to New York City, where he began working for the Condé Nast magazines as an illustrator. Reading books to his three children inspired him to apply his pen and ink and watercolor style to his own picture books. His first book, Lorenzo, was built in 1961. Today, his characters are some of the most beloved in the library. He and his wife, Ethel, live on Long Island.

Written in delightful rhyme, a city mouse finds his way into a very, very quiet home. They eat quiet food, they never speak, and all is silence for them...until...
the mouse finds his way to the pantry and takes his fill, falls asleep and snores. Snores so loud everything in the home quakes, and food crumbles. The house itself shook, and he shook himself awake!
They find him in the pantry and inquire why is he here? He tells his sad story, then waves good-bye. They say he can stay, and he learns to be every so quiet....except when he was alseep! But...this time they do not awaken because...they now wear ear plugs!!

Very cute. 3.5 stars. The best part is just how fun it would be to read aloud, what with the different volume levels and the rhyme. Yes, the rhyme; I know that I've said I don't care for rhyming picture book stories but that's when they're forced and/or awkward... this one flows beautifully. I highly recommend, if you're lucky enough to have a child who will listen to you read aloud, and your library still has this, to check it out.

Another gem from the late Bernard Waber. I love books that rhyme while weaving a wonderful tale which this book does perfectly. A quiet family has to contend with the intrusion of a noisy mouse who has taken up residence in their home. The outcome of this story is brilliant as are the illustrations which compliment this wonderfully imaginative story.

This quiet family does everything in hush tones. They dare not even eat foods that make to much noise. One night they were awaken by a loudly snoring mouse. They were going to kick him out until they found that he was homeless. This book can show students how to use commas and when they can needed. This will help improve their writings.

The boys and I laughed and laughed at this mouse who snores so loud that he cause a parlor chair to go out the door! They made me read it to them 3 times in a row. A new favorite book to add to our "books in rhyme" list.

A story about a very quiet couple who lived with their very quiet parrot and cat. Then one day noisy mouse moved in. A good book to use to talk about the times that it's good to be loud or quiet.

This book is about a boisterous mouse who awakens a quiet family in the middle of the night. This book can be used to teach the different ways to use Rhyme.
