The Founding of the United States Experience: 1763-1815

Rate this book
Brilliantly conceived and beautifically packaged, this unique narrative spans the French-Indian Wars of the 1760s and the Jacksonian era--a period in which the fires of rebellion were stoked, and a fledging nation took her place among the world's powers. Through text and photographs, we are immersed in the civil, military, and political events of a momentous age. Readers relive the period by holding and examining faithful reproductions of more than thirty pieces of memorabilia--much of it unpublished--from America's finest private collections and public archives. Among the documents and effects included are hand-drawn maps, diary excerpts, letters, newspapers, handbills, and other effects from the late-Colonial era and early Republic.

I've had this book for about two years. The recent national dialogue relating to gun control motivated me to flip it open and review what our founding fathers stood for and what they did to establish the nation and its guiding documents.

Aside from why I read it, the book is a great collection of the pieces of history from 1763 to 1815. The addition of various items (tucked away in pockets on a few pages) are great, but in many cases the quality is beyond readable. However, to see and get the general vibe of what the original message and guidance was during that period........makes you really consider what the strategic vision was for our great nation at such a critical point.

This publication should be in every American's bookshelf---we owe it to ourselves to appreciate how and why our nation was founded in order to embrace the direction we take today---Right, wrong, indifferent.

This is a very nice coffee book style volume that shows many of the important events in the history of early America. The most important aspect is the replicas of important documents in US history. I can see this being a handy book to use when teaching the kids.

Do yourself a favor and buy this book. What an amazing reference! It's jam packed with information, not to mention the various primary source documents pocketed in the pages. SOOOOOOO worth the money spent, especially if you are a history / social studies teacher!
