From decorating the classroom with hearts to eating cupcakes and making Valentine's Day mailboxes, Little Critter is having the best day ever. He's even making an extra-special card for an extra-special valentine!
Mercer Mayer is an American children's author and illustrator. He has published over 300 books, using a wide range of illustrative styles. Mayer is best known for his Little Critter and Little Monster series of books.
It’s Valentine’s Day and Little Critter is all in at school. He does as much decorating and hearting as he can. It’s a cute story. I loved getting the little cards at school and seeing all the different kinds of cards you got.
This has life-the-flaps. It’s 1/4 of the page that reveals action that Little Critter is up too. The artwork is all Mercer and it’s glossy.
The nephew thinks this day is fun. It’s another day to get candy. He read this and we have read several Mercer Mayer books and he enjoyed this one too. He gave it 3 stars. He has a little crush on a girl and he is making her an extra special card this year.
What I liked about this book is each page folds out to reveal a hidden illustration. For example, one page mentions and shows Little Critter making a box to receive Valentine's and when you fold out the page it shows Little Critter with his finished product. This is a fun idea, an extra hidden surprise. Also, I'm a sucker for Valentine's Day stories.
Synopsis:"It's Valentine's Day, and Little Critter's class is celebrating! They're decorating the classroom with hearts, eating cupcakes, and making Valentine's Day mailboxes. Little Critter is making an extra special card for an extra special valentine. Who will it be? Pull back the flaps and discover all the fun Valentine's Day surprises."
My Review: Another fantastic Little Critter book, like you would expect anything different. We picked this one up in anticipation of Valentine's day. It does a great job of keeping the story simple and short but with the fun addition of page flaps and of course our favorite characters. I like how this book introduces the types of things that might be seen in a classroom valentine celebration and also how it pulls the reader away from the idea of getting to creating and giving.
Growing up I always liked Little Critter books. In this book Little Critter is celebrating Valentine's Day at school. He makes his Valentine's day box and wonders about what sort of Valentine's gifts he is going to get and who is going to give him one. This book brought back good memories.
This book is geared toward the younger elementary schools students, probably K-2. I enjoyed the illustrations in the book, but there was really no point to the story. I would probably read this book at a Valentine's day party. Other than that, I probably wouldn't read it to my students.
Parker’s first Little Critter tale! And while we were not reading this during it’s Valentine’s season, it was still wonderful fun, especially the lift the flaps.
4/23/22: Cute installment in the Little Critter series. I like Little Critter so most of what I read in the series, I enjoy. The pages aren't really paper, they are stiffer than paper but not quite board book stiff and there are flaps kids can lift so I'll probably get it out for the grandchild closer to Valentine's Day next year. Fun book.
