Ela Montahue is a talented sorceress with the ability to heal, but distressed over a complicated ancestral legacy. Long ago, a mystical woman known as Boadicea, the famed queen of the Iceni tribe, issued a difficult decree. As her descendant, Ela must wed for love, not practicality, or she will forfeit her supernatural power. In medieval England this is not a socially acceptable order to follow. For her family’s sake, she should marry Lord Thomas de Havel, a vile landholder with a cruel streak and a desire to see slavery reinstated—a man with good connections to King John’s court. This arrangement would put the Montehues in a safe position in the new regime. The stakes are high—her dignity, her pride, and possibly her life in childbirth. When Ela refuses this repulsive marital transaction, Thomas de Havel abducts her and wages battle against her father in retaliation. Only Osbert Edyvean, a knight with the highest creed—honor, faith, and logic—can save her and preserve her gift. A businessman for the Earl of Norfolk, Osbert has been paid to find Boadicea’s spear. Rather than bring back this obscure artifact, he rescues Ela, intending to take her to the earl and obtain his parcel of land. Wary of the supernatural aura surrounding this woman, the admirable knight fights his overwhelming passion for a beautiful lady he wants to protect . . . and love. This is Boadicea’s true legacy. - See more at: http://medallionmediagroup.com/books/...
Librarian Note: Author also goes by name Traci Hall
My name is Traci Hall and I love to write...sounds like the beginning step of a program! However, I am not sorry that I love to write, so I guess I'm in it for the long haul. Finger cramps, slumped back and numb feet from sitting all day aside, there is nothing I would rather do than tell stories. Hearing back from readers makes it all worth while. Cool stuff to know: I've been interviewed on radio, web radio, web tv and Fox and Friends. I've been included in a 'Fifty Great Writer's You Should be Reading' anthology, and I've been in a few magazines. I love teaching workshops, online or in person, so feel free to contact me @ traciella@aol.com, or if you are a fan who would like to connect, visit www.tracihall.com
Ela is a confident and courageous witch who knows her own mind and is determined to end the Boadicea curse on her own terms. If she marries without love, her powers will be gone and with it the horrible dreams of bloodshed and war. Her future, however unhappy if may look, was planned. It was an arrogant and self-righteous knight that stumbles upon her one night in the throws of casting a spell that ruins all her plans.
Osbert is a man loyal to God. Raised by a monk who taught him the evil ways of women, Os is determined to remain chaste until her marries. And he refuses to marry until her has a true home, land to call his own. It's the search for the Earl who can gift him that land that leads him to the one woman whom he never could have prepared for. She is a wild woman. She doesn't hide her magic though Os makes it clear it is a blasphemy against God and the church. She is also very free with her sharp tongue and unwomanly opinions. But there's something about her that draws him in.
When Ela's husband to be threatens her life and the life of her family, it's Os that saves her and on their travel to safe lands, the pair become closer and closer. It may be fate that draws them together but the love between them is powerful enough to get them through anything.
I was enjoying this book for the most part but there came a point where I begun to lose interest and it was when they reached the Earl. For some reason the plot sort of fell off and became repetitive and it became boring to me. Ela was a likeable character, though not at all behaving in a manner of a Lady of her time. She would have been burnt or at least shunned if she went around
proclaiming herself to be a witch. Os was perfectly within him rights to be put out by her brutal honesty. He was a man of God and did act more closely towards the time period. I did, however, enjoy his ability to look past his Bible teachings and truly see Ela as she was. And I loved their up and down relationship throughout the book as it did read as a real partnership.
This book was just the romance I was in the mood to read. The characters are extremely likeable—the heroine, Ela Montahue, is the right combination of fiery and feminine. The hero, Osbert Edyvean, is hunky and conflicted, his heart always in the right place. Both of them have a sexy chemistry that burns up the page. I found myself caught up in their sexual tension, their mere kissing making me read on. There is definitely enough romance and steam in this book. And the dialogue was witty and so much fun to read—one of the best parts!
The eternal love story crosses the dimensions of time, enhanced by supernatural elements. The second half of the book really delivered in that department. We learn that there are very good reasons why Ela and Osbert are so connected; and, we also discover that there are secrets in her past that make her so head strong and empowered. The heroine’s magical abilities provide conflict for her and her true love. We wonder if they will be able to iron out their feelings for each other and get over their fears of falling deeply in love—magic or no magic.
Villains, intrigue, real life and death danger speed the plot along. I found myself wondering if her former suiter and almost husband would come and destroy her chances with Osbert. The former fiancé is deliciously despicable and I feared he was never really gone from the story, likely to raise his ugly head again. Several plot twists later and I was suddenly at the end of the story. The last 100 pages were hard to put down. I found myself not wanting the suspense to end. There could SO be another book after this! Was bummed to find out there wasn’t…
Nice conclusion to the series. It left things a bit open ended so maybe the author will do more with it. The thing that I find a bit odd about this series is that it almost feels like a different person wrote each of these books. Not necessarily from the style of writing but just because each story is so different if they didn't have some of the same characters in them you wouldn't think the stories went together at all. Anyway, if you are looking for a period witchy romance, this series may spark an interest.
