A scared young woman accused of theft stands in front of Marshal Jake Huntley’s desk at the jailhouse. The lawman generally has no tolerance for criminals, but when she focuses her doleful blue eyes on him in a way that makes his heart race, he wants nothing more than to protect her.
Elizabeth Matthews is in desperate need of help, but she refuses to tell the truth when the marshal demands it. It’s his job to protect people, but it’s also his job to punish criminals, so how can she?
Though the lawman doesn’t plan to use the law against her, he’s not opposed to delivering justice in the form of a hard, bare-bottomed spanking over his knee. After her bottom is thrashed to a deep shade of crimson, her secrets spill out. Will the marshal be able to save her from enemies on both sides of the law?
Publisher’s Note: This standalone story has been expanded and revised from its original publication under the title Missy Meets the Marshal. It contains adult spanking and sexual scenes. If that doesn’t appeal to you, please don’t buy this book.

This is another wonderful read, great characters and a wonderful plot that will hold you riveted
Marshall Jake Huntley has previously worked as a bounty hunter so knows what its like to put yourself and your life on the line and knew when enough was enough. At 33 years of age, he has now become the Sheriff which is still a challenging undertaking which he takes very seriously, ensuring that his town and the inhabitants are kept as safe as humanly possible by him.
One day a young female is brought into him by one of the businessmen who also happens to be a trouble maker, he wants the book thrown at her and she is pleading for him to listen to her and her explanation of innocence while her captor Henry continues to call her a liar!!
The young woman is obviously frightened and Jake knows that if he is not seen to be taking appropriate action she will never be accepted in their town, however he had not expected to have such deep feelings for the young, spirited and beautiful woman. I guarantee that you will enjoy this book that is packed with lots of action and will keep you totally enchanted by this book. assure you that you will love every moment of this book it is simply a fantastic read. I voluntarily received and review an Advanced Reader Copy I thoroughly enjoyed the book and look forward to reading any future publications; keep up all the great writing.
In true Smarts form, Amelia has landed another spanking winner! Marshal Jake Huntley is a 33yo former bounty hunter and like many who land in Porter, Texas previously a rouser, in his case a gunslinger. He’s lived a tough life but he has a heart of gold. As he’s closing the Marshal’s office one day Henry, a local businessman and busy body, brings in a young woman in tattered clothing who proclaims her innocence while Henry calls “Liar!” After calming Henry down and getting him to leave, Jake talks to her to get to the truth. What he finds is a sweet but scared young woman in “Missy” which is Jake’s name for the 25yo woman. He suspects she’s lying and indeed finds out quite a bit more when he follows her. Oh. My. Word. I loved this short historical romance. If you like spanking as a form of disciplinary love, you’ll want to read this book full of passion and of course spanking. I volunteered to review an ARC of this book and it comes recommended to lovers of Amelia Smarts stories. Well-written, fast-paced and full of rough cowboy charm with intrigue from a former husband!
FINDING A PLACE TO STAY OFFERS MORE FREEDOM THAT IN FLIGHT
I enjoyed this fun western, with a bit of mystery and suspense. My heart breaks for Elizabeth aka Missy and all she endures her entire life and can understand her flight to try and have freedom. Marshall Grover Huntley has seen much in his years, the good, the bad, and the ugly. He can recognize lies and he can also see that sometimes the law has its gray area.
The plot kept me captivated and the pages turning as the mystery unfolds. I found the dialog to be open and heartwarming with a man who believes in honesty and a penalty for lying. This is a time when dominant men believed in spanking naughty women.
NOTE: I previously read this story when it was originally released as Missy Meets the Marshal
Jake is a lawman and Missy is a young woman looking to escape from her disastrous first marriage. From the beginning, Jake wants Missy. He wants to protect her, but first, he needs to know what is going on. To get the story, he disciplines her until she talks. He decides he will marry her after they make her a new identity. But Missy doesn't tell him everything and that is what gets her in more trouble. Jake loves Missy and he will protect her even when she is trying to protect him. Great story. I enjoyed the original story, but this is a wonderful revision and expansion.
I received an advance copy and this is my honest review.
This is a hot little short western romance where the town marshal, Jake Huntley, falls for the married, lying beauty brought into his office by one of the town locals. A ragged young woman is deposited in his office, accused of theft. He doesn't believe she is a thief, but she is hiding something. When he questions her and she continues to without the truth, he allows her to sleep in a jail cell while he goes for food. He allows her to leave for just a few minutes and follows her. His discovery leads him to take her home with him. This is an insta-love story with sexual content, spankings, and so much heat!
Overall, a 2.5 star read. I enjoyed it, so I rounded it up to 3 stars for this review. It's a short read and decently written, predictable plot, but I liked the characters. I had a few issues with this book. She is fleeing an abusing husband and then immediately gets into a relationship with the marshal. Which I'm fine with. However, the spanking borders onto bdsm. It goes a bit past sexual and into pain. Which normally I would be fine with, but the characters history just makes it an odd choice from the author. The book is tagged correctly with spanking and bdsm, so at least readers are aware. I just would not have made that decision with the FMCs history. It could have been not as intense and still had the same effect. There were 2 typos, but the book is short and probably not edited as extensively as longer more established books. So I found this acceptable. There was one plot hole or misstep in the storyline. Where Henry all the sudden knows Matthews name, which would have alerted him to who he was. Matthew's doesn't introduce himself and even reprimands himself for drawing Henry's attention to his poster (which had his name on it). That is a bit more of an issue for me than just typos and an overzealous bottom smacker.
Warning: For mature readers and spanking is involved. A 'concerned' citizen brings a bedraggled lady into the Marshall's office and wants her locked up for trying to sell him 'stolen' goods. She denies the charge but agrees to let the Marshall lock her up if he will give her 30 minutes. The Marshall agrees and then follows her and gets a shock. He is intrigued by the lady and winds up taking her to his house to try and get to the truth by disciplining her. He wants her to understand that he can only help her if she will trust him, and she has never had anyone to care for her that much. Can these two make a go of it? Perhaps with the help of some good friends and a bit of luck they will be able to find their happy ending. I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
A wonderful short historical romance that includes lots of sexy spankings. Elizabeth (Missy) is on the run from her outlaw husband and runs into trouble when a store owner drags her to the town sheriff, Jake, accusing her of stealing things. As time goes on, Jake and Elizabeth start a relationship, but they still have to worry about her outlaw husband. When Jake hears who he is, he's stunned as it's someone he knows. I loved how Jake took care of her and also how feisty Elizabeth is. It's a cute story that made my heart happy!
This talented author's stories are enjoyable. They are well done with real and rounded characters that carry the story. This one is a bit choppy. Jake meets "Missy" and within a day is willing to throw his whole moral code into the bin. There are plenty of hot erotic sexy scenes that really work, and some well deserved spankings. I enjoyed the interactions of all the different characters. I liked how the author invoked the image of an1800's Texas town. I voluntarily read an advanced reader copy of this book and I recommend it. It is worth reading this sexy spanking story.
I really enjoyed Missy and Jake’s story. Jake is a take no prisoners type of marshal who meets Missy when she’s brought in to his jail when she tries to sell a broach. He’s immediately taken in by her, not knowing that she’s wanted by the law! The story has a lot of action and plenty of steam and spanking good fun! It was a great read, and would expect nothing less from this author!
This was a great read. It was fast paced, sweet and had a lot of good steam. Jake is the town marshall and doesn't put up with any shenanigans, until he meets the lady he didn't know he needed. Missy is sweet and independent but takes a lot of convincing to trust Jake. He knows exactly how to deal with her. I really enjoyed this story.
The woman was too foolish. She seemed stupid. The Marshall was too quick to spank her and they fell in love too quickly. The story lacked in the way of a slow tease. The reason I gave it three stars is because though the start lacked believability, the story did build to a good plot, a believable one in the end.
Wow. I mean I certainly never had a go at reading any western style books before but this was immense. The tension between the characters. The build of their relationship. The background plot. Ooh had me feeling some way. Think I've found a new fave style
Oh lord. If you want your IQ to drop several points, have at it. Terrible writing and dialogue. Weak woman and unlikeable man. Glad I stopped reading early on.
What a crazy insane story, only in the wild old west. You were left with an in depth knowledge of the two characters. I loved that things are taken seriously, not like today.
