Sir Robin of Locksley, the boy with the unruly raven hair and blue eyes, who makes my heart beat faster when he smiles at me. I’m not supposed to yearn for him as I do. I’m betrothed to Sir Guy of Guisborne, one of Robin’s rivals.
Now in my last summer of freedom, we have one final night together to carve memories into our hearts. But we have an enemy who seeks to tear us apart. With Robin gone, sent to fight in the crusades, he makes his move, making an offer I can’t resist.
Rumors emerge of an outlaw dressed in green, who robs the rich to give to the poor. An outlaw with a chip and a bow on his shoulder; a quiver on his hip and perfect aim.
Robin Hood, the king of Sherwood Forest, is back to seek revenge against the Sheriff of Nottingham. He’ll stop at nothing to reclaim what was stolen from him. He’s a thief in the night, robbing the rich of their gold. And now he wants all of me. But he hurt me once, and if I don’t guard my heart, he’ll do it again.
NOTE: The King of Sherwood Forest is a dark reimagining of Robin Hood. Please check the author's note for trigger warnings.
Holy shit…. Have you thought about hiring a credible editor? I have never in my life seen something so vehemently against its own era. Nothing like the lines “you dodged a bullet.” “I never wanted the bullet aimed at my sister.” To remind you an author does not care. You name drop the crusades enough I would think it would be a catalyst to learn they didn’t have guns??? Or engagement rings for that matter????
Not to mention the fact that we’re just supposed to go from Robin understanding marriage contracts and how unfair they are to women, to believe that after he took her virginity there would be no repercussions to her??? Cool you went to war Robin, but yeah it’s definitely in her control to be forced into another marriage?????
Jesus Christ don’t even get me started on her just having to forgive him for having sex with another woman like he’s Ross Fucking Gellar, but he can call her a whore every two minutes for being betrothed. . .
This book is so BEAUTIFULLY written. I can’t put into words the amount of feeeels that oozed out of me. KOSWF is a dark, second chance romance, reimagining of Robin Hood. It’s the perfect blend of historical world/setting, mixed with some modern language/references. I cried, I CACKLED, I fanned my face at the FILTH (Sir Robin of Locksley has quite the mouth 👀). &My gods, MAIDEN MARIAN?!?! I can’t even describe how much her character meant to me during the journey of this read y’all!
I was a bit nervous before starting the book because I adore Robin Hood and was worried this would not do it justice. Thankfully, I was wrong. This story actually is the version of Robin Hood and Marian’s love story I always dreamed of. It was action packed, full of dark moments that kept my heart beating and an amazing friends to lovers romance with lots of angst… a treat. I can’t wait for the next instalment because, of yes, I fell in love with the side characters too!
Although I’ve had nearly 24 hours to collect my thoughts and gather my feelings I’m still left speechless by this book while reading this 1 million and 1 thoughts ran through my head but not a single one was bad.
Reading this was a whole journey a journey of self discovery for the characters and new beginnings but one thing I love about harleighs writing is it feels so incredibly familiar and she writes in a way that is so effortless to tell a story that you can’t help but just get lost in the world she is creating for you. You start with 2 characters that you know are just meant to be together and that are so helplessly in love but all the odds seem to be against them and reading this love story is so incredibly brutal In some parts.
the pain of the characters truly translates so well that I just couldn’t help but cry in so many part’s because your overwhelmed by this knowledge that they should be together and you know they will but you have to get Through all the struggles to get to the parts that make all the pain and heartbreak so worth it.
And I will tell the pay off is so incredibly beautifully. To see two characters that individually and together go through so much and then to see them over come every single hardship it was so moving to read about but don’t let that make you think that harleigh didn’t give us all the nitty gritty parts because she did ohh she did she gave us a story about characters that fuck up and make mistakes and are sometimes clumsy in there efforts to see there wrongdoing’s but in the end they get there and you follow there whole path in to making amends.
I remember back when harleigh first announced she was writing this book I was so incredibly excited for it.every little teaser and snippet made the excitement grow and I can honestly say that not once was I disappointed or felt that anything lacked or could have be done differently it was that good and although i know harleigh will never disappoint with her writing I have to say ‘the king of Sherwood high’ is proof of that statement alone .
Harleigh writing a Robin Hood retelling!!?? To be honest it was a bit weird at the beginning, being used to her contemporary stories. But jesus she outdid herself!!! 😍 I love how immersive this book was from the beginning, I felt like a princess in medieval times or like an outlaw roaming Sherwood Forest. Honestly, I fell in love with the settings in this book! And the characters were sooo cute and easy to love! I can't really say I hated any, even the villains had their human side. I really need spin offs for most of the characters please, they deserve their own stories 🙏 The last 20% was freaking INSANE!!! Action, action and more action, I couldn't breathe. And I really loved the turn of events, I think it gives a very modern touch to the classic tale. I couldn't finish this review without mentioning Marian and Robin. Who do I love the most? 🤔 I can't decide. But if you were worrying you would miss Harleigh's spicy scenes with alpha males.....you're safe. The King of Sherwood Forest is delicious 🥵 and the best thing is that Marian is a Queen herself 😈
I loved this dark retelling of Robin Hood! There was so much adventure, action, plot twists and the most lovable characters (even if a little morally grey).
I grew up with the Disney’s Robin Hood (which is a classic), but let’s just say that I’m beyond thrilled that I can now read this steamyAF retelling.
I love that Marian was able to save Robin. She was a badass, strong, brave and loyal main character.
Robin with his raven hair and ocean blues eyes, swoon. He is a cocky, stubborn but his love for Marian is so very fierce.
Robin Hood is one of the best found family stories there is and The King of Sherwood Forest did not disappoint. I loved all the Merry Men or Wolfshead. They had it all with their banter, wit, humor, drunkenness and loyalty towards Robin Hood.
I received an eArc in exchange for an honest review!
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️!
This was goooood. Definitely dark & spicy-so check out the trigger warnings if you have any concerns regarding its content.
This is an imaginative retelling of Robin Hood. I loved the childhood connection between him and Marion. I LOVE that she’s not some annoying helpless wisp and that Robin isn’t this perfect man on a high horse. It has a quick pace, action, heat, and fun. Multiple POV’s. It’s definitely a character driven story, with completely modern language, and phrases (there IS an authors note in the beginning) while set in the historical timeline. My only complaint about that was it did jar me out of the story a bit here and there. It was good! I recommend this story to my dark spicy romance people!
Marian and her sister Adela grew up with Robin and his friend Lucien, but Marian’s parents die. Marian and Adela go to live with King Richard. The King has decided Marion will marry Guy who is Robin’s enemy, and she can’t say no. Robin and Marion have always been close and as they get older the feeling are deeper. One night changes everything. Great characters and storyline. Highly recommended. Amazing book. I love Marian and Robin and the supporting characters are amazing. I couldn’t put this book down. This is my first book by this author definitely not my last.
I never knew how badly i needed an actual Robin Hood retelling till this story ! It was perfect. It had action - drama - plot twists and the love all know between Marian and her Robin. This book didn’t leave me wanting for anything and when I saw a book 2 is going to be released - i found myself smiling cause I’d love to return to Sherwood Forest for more adventure !!
WOW. This book was captivating!!! I was sold when I saw “Robin Hood Retelling”. I loved this entire story. This book was very well paced with a lot of action that kept me glued to the pages. Robin is DREAMY. I loved Marian’s desire to just be wild and free - it was all just so great!
4.75 stars! While I felt like this story was a little bit slow to get moving in the beginning, once the pace hit, I very much enjoyed this dark and twisted Robin Hood retelling! Starting with young Robin and Marion, childhood friends, turned crush, until she’s betrothed to another, and he becomes betrothed to her sister. But when they decide to take at least a slice of fate into their own hands, an unexpected betrayal tears them apart, and has him off to the crusades, and her sent away from home. The story flashes forward a couple years, upon Marian’s return, nothing is as it used to be, Robin is still away fighting in the Crusades, and Marion finds herself at the mercy of the prince as his ward while King Richard is away fighting the Crusades, and in sights of the Sheriff of Nottingham. But Marion is holding out hope for Robin’s return, until devastating news is delivered, and she finds herself betrothed to the sheriff. Meanwhile, Robin returns from the Crusades to find him lands have been stolen out from under his family, and his love is betrothed to another. With nowhere to go, he finds himself traveling through Sherwood Forest, where he comes upon the rebels and outlaws who will soon become his closest friends, and staunchest allies.
The twists and turns of this book are great. There’s some early spice, but then it turns slow burn. Be sure to check trigger and content warnings, as there is definitely a very dark side to this tale. But as Robin and Marion uncover unexpected truths and find their way back to each other, there are plenty of other forces at play that are working against them. As infuriating as each of them could be from time to time, I really did love their relationship, both strong willed, and strong hearted people, and they clearly were meant for each other. The found family aspect here is very strong as well, with a great collection of side characters that only added to my enjoyment of the story. A great HFN ending for Robin and Marion, with more to come in this series.
“I’m a girl. I don’t get a say. I’m nothing but a bargaining chip.” -Marian
The story of Robin Hood is well know and each interpretation is appreciated. Most of my experience with this story is through movies. First there is Robin Hood: Prince Of Thieves which had Alan Rickman who is a magnificent “bad guy.” Next there is Robin Hood: Men In Tights with goofy songs and all the comedy. While Disney’s Robin Hood has foxes and singing roosters. Who could dislike that?
Then we get to this version. It has the seriousness of Prince of Thieves with a sliver of silliness from Men In Tights. The bond Marian and Robin have can be sweet like their fox counterparts in the Disney retelling, with a much kinkier storyline.
Marian is not a damsel in distress in any of the stories, but it was superb to see her be a force to be reckoned with in this version. She is fierce, strong, and determined to survive a world built for men. Girl power at its finest. She will make sure no one will use her leverage and does so splendidly.
As always, Robin is his stubborn, cocky, hotheaded, kind, and compassionate self. It is never a wonder as to why the people of Nottingham praise him and the Merry Men look up to and follow him. He may be of noble blood, but he will do what is right for the greater good. This just proves no matter what your station is in this world, having a good heart and character is why people will love and respect you. Ruling by fear only makes people afraid of you, not make people want to stand with you.
Having a POV from Marian about what took place was fascinating. Most of what happened in Sherwood Forest has mostly been presented to me from Robin Hood and his Merry Men’s tales. As women in this time are used mostly, if not completely, as clout, having the story play out from her POV is a great spin.
When I tell you this book was a breath of fresh air. Harleigh isn't a new to me author, but I have only come to know Harleighs writing through her novellas, which if you have read them, they're chaotic and wild.
The King of Sherwood forest however, was so damn good. Its a Robin Hood retelling, and let me tell you, I've never actually seen Robin Hood, nor have I read any retellings of Robin Hood, so I jumped at the chance to read this because it was so unique to me.
Without seeing the film, I already know Harleigh did it justice, because I told my husband the entire plot and he was impressed🤣
I loved Marian, she was feisty, stubborn and she never let her light dim, even in the worst situations (we'll get to that in a minute). I also adored Robin, he was so sure of everything that he did, and he was possessive and so protective over Marian. And his family 'his merry men'. At times I honestly wanted to knock their heads together and stop them from being so stubborn.
I have never HATED a character as much as Lucian, aka The Sheriff of Nottingham, God that man was awful, he lied, he hurt, he gaslit and manipulated Marian, not even mentioning locking her in a room. But God was I happy that she made a friend in Edith, and it was eventually Edith that sought to put everything right. Thank god for Edith.
At one point I had tears in my eyes, and I won't forgive Harleigh for that. The spice was so good aswell. I can't believe I forgot this book was going to be a trilogy, until right at the end, and I cannot wait for the next book to release!
This is a reimagined version of Robin Hood & it was so good. I became completely invested in this book to the point of, if I wasn’t reading it then I was thinking about it constantly. I enjoyed putting myself in that time where things were drastically different than what they are today. Robin peaked my interest from the beginning, I mean the formalities that was required back then amazed me. Marian definitely went through the wringer after being sent out to London, thank god for her maid thats all I can say. Lucian disgusted me & gave me an uneasy feeling especially when he showed up when she returned. Most definitely read the triggers because there are some intense reactions that Lucian has when he finally shows his true colors, which had me wide eyed reading what he was capable of. Now what happens in Sherwood Forest between Marian & Robin amongst the outlaws in their shelter had some pretty good spice, but we all know everyone on the outside enjoyed the noise! Definitely a good book & I’m obsessed with the whole story. I’m interested to see what happens with Sir Guy now that his pregnant wife is gone.
Robin and Marian are childhood friends, but that all seem to change during a summer visit when Robin learns of Marian’s betrothal to Sir Guy! At least it should, but instead they embark on a journey full of forbidden love and lust. When the affair sees the light of day, Robin is sent off to fight in the crusades and for two years Marian is oblivious to what has become of him.
A story of young love at a time when such a thing was frowned upon. Where a woman was meant to keep quiet and be a man’s property without thinking for herself. The King of Sherwood Forest is a beautiful tale about friendship and betrayal.
A reimagining of Robin Hood. This tale has many faces and while the movie shows one of them, this story by Harleigh Beck is another. When reading a story like this, it’s imperative to keep an open mind. It’s not for everyone and that’s okay, but never judge a book by its cover! I loved it and I cannot wait for the next one!
The King of Sherwood Forest by Harleigh Beck. ⭐⭐⭐⭐&🌶️🌶️🌶️
It's actually book 1 in what may eventually be a series called The Wolfsheads.
This is a straightforward Robin Hood retelling. And the main trope is Second Chance Romance.
I found that it was very well written, with a decent amount of spice scattered throughout and good character development, especially of Marian.
Honestly, the only reason I knocked a star off was because the deviations from the original story were slight. So no big surprises or anything. It reminded me very much of the original story, just with a good injection of spice. That is in no way a complaint though! 😂
I very much look forward to the next installment, once it is published. It's supposed to be Will Scarlett's story and I 👏 AM 👏 HERE 👏 for that!!!
I definitely would recommend this to anyone wanting to take a trip into Sherwood and re-experience the Tale of Robin Hood and his Merry Men.
Robin and marian have been friends since childhood. As they get older, their feelings begin to change, and they become much more than friends. However, Marian is betrothed to Sir Guy, and Robin is betrothed to Marians sister. They decide to embark on a summer fling where they fall more and more in love with each other. When Marian and Robin are caught, they are split up and sent away. Years later, they are back, but life as they once knew it is forever changed, and they must fight to find each other and overcome all of the obstacles put in their way.
This book was an epic retelling of Robin Hood but with a much dark storyline, including a dirty talking Robin and a badass Marian. The spice is 🔥🥵 and i just didn't want to put it down.
They were in love since before they knew what it meant and were tragically ripped apart. Now three years later she is back and is told the love of her life is dead and agrees to become the wife of the man that betrayed them. Robin comes home to find everything gone and goes into the forest and becomes Robin Hood. After nursing his wounded heart after find out about the life of his life he sets out to help the poor and hurt the rich like the classic story we all know and love. Of course he gets his girl and all is right in the world at the end. This was my first book by this author and I am impressed at how I enjoyed this twist. I’m a sucker for all things fairytale and this retelling did not disappoint and I loved how it wasn’t packed full of spice it was a quiet perfect story.
We all had a crush on Robin Hood, Right? Cause if Disney taught us one thing it's that the good guys do bad stuff for the right reasons.
And this retelling is no different. There's heartbreak and sadness and love and happiness. The characters are brilliant, the plot is scrumptious, the heartbreak is enough to make you want to cry and above all else? It's gonna leave you wanting more.
So. Much. More.
Boom one gives us Marian and Robin, fighting for their love, for their freedom, for the lives of anyone who isn't the Sheriff of Nottingham or King John.
And the fight is so good. I still think about it, to be honest.
I cannot wait for book two. If this is how book one has left me, book two is gonna be a roller-coaster and I'm ready for the ride back into Sherwood Forest.
Gather round for a retelling of Robin Hood and his Maid Marian - Harleigh Beck style. This retelling did not disappoint! The King of Sherwood Forest was a fast-paced, exciting, steamy story right from the start. Robin and Marian together are absolutely fantastic, their chemistry is off the charts hot. She is his “Little Wildfire”. I loved her character- strong, smart, feisty, and determined. She is a queen. Robin has a tongue of quicksilver (take that in all the ways you’re thinking it could go). He’s a fighter, he will burn the world for the ones he loves and he is one of the best MMC’s Harleigh has written. I loved this story and I cannot wait for more to come.
✨ARC Review ✨ *** Thank you to @author_harleighbeck and Passion Author Services for the ARC to review. *** The King Of Sherwood Forest was so good. I loved the betrayal and revenge in this book. The storyline was so good and I was constantly on the edge of my seat. I loved Robin. He was hot, an alpha male, and so sexy. Marian was amazing. She was strong, badass, and so caring. The ending was a bit sad but still so good. I cannot wait to see what happens next. *** ⭐⭐⭐⭐ ***
I loved the dark retelling of Robin Hood so much. I had a hard time putting it down and just wanted to get lost in the book. This book is full of action, not to mention the plot twists thrown in. This spicy second chance romance that Robin and Marian share is so deliciously forbidden, that it was the perfect story. Definitely make sure you check this one out, it's well worth it
I can’t believe I even finished this book. I would leave it at that but it says I need more words for the review.
Both characters were immature and unlikable. I know the A/N note said they had modern references but Jesus. I don’t need to be reading a medieval book and still reading the terms “dodged a bullet” or “nah man”.
Of you are looking for a Robin Hood retelling, The King of Sherwood Forest is a perfect place to start. This is the only Robin Hood retelling I've found and this was so good. Harleigh Beck knocked this book out of the park.
This is gonna be a long one y’all. Grab your drinks and your snacks because what the hell did I just subject myself to? I started making notes in my notes app because I couldn’t believe what I was reading, so this may be somewhat chopped up like a powerpoint.
Let’s begin with the start of the main characters relationship. They’re childhood sweethearts. Cute right? Wrong. We never see their relationship develop and are just throw into them being in love with each other - but we’re told that they’re oh so in love with each other, so it must be true! He also started calling her “his little wildfire” at 7 years old. Please someone direct me to a seven year old that would use that -cringe- language. Don’t get me wrong, i love a good pet name, but when it’s repeated like every sentence and he’s said it since he was 7 you do start questioning your own sanity.
He REALLY loves licking her belly button. Not sure why i included it in my notes but if i had a penny for every time he licked it i’d have two. Which isn’t a lot but it’s weird that it happened twice.
He swears in every sentence. Well scrap that. Every character swears and talks the same with at least one “fuck” or “fucking” in every sentence. I think i stopped processing the other outcasts names after a while because all of their characters just blended in together with almost no personalities. Besides the guy that played music and the twelve year old, they’re the only reason this book even gets a 1*.
The author tells us that things happened that we didn’t see so they must have happened. Really convenient events too. We randomly get told that she robbed a kings guard and got some arrows from him conveniently, a random girl with no stealth skills can best a kings guard and steal from them, and we don’t even get to read about it, yeah, that checks out. This was a theme during the book but I just didn’t feel like noting every time this happened.
The time pacing of this book is also terrible. We get told it’s x months or x years later and never get to see what happens during that time. If we didn’t get to see these time skips the book would be complete in about the time frame of 2-4 weeks.
The villain is weak to say the least. Don’t get me wrong, he’s a terrible person, obviously. But the best villains are ones with sustenance and an actual decent story. Jealous boy from childhood just didn’t personally do it for me - and it’s like the author thought in every scene he was involved “what’s the most messed up psycho thing he could do right now?” and then just wrote it down.
Robin gets forced into the crusades and suffers a lot of trauma and has to kill a lot of people for 3 years fighting to survive. That’s so traumatic. Except we don’t get to read about any of it, so we don’t get to experience any of this pain or trauma or suffering. We only get to hear how much he suffered having to kill people with swords for three years. Multiple times.
We get told by all of the characters how wild and brave Marian is. But that’s the issue, we’re told and we aren’t shown. She’s brave for surviving her abuser (of course) but she did nothing before to be.. brave or different before that, which was where her wildfire nickname came from i’m guessing. Another offender of saying buy not showing.
Robin was excessively obsessed with taking Marians “virtue”, “innocence” and just “had to be the first” to take her virginity. All this does is just make him the same as every other man in that time, and i expect MMCs to act better than this. Yes the book is in the past, but the author is in the present. Women don’t like being told that our innocence or virtue is lost after we have sex with someone. I certainly didn’t feel comfortable reading it, and I haven’t liked the MMC since. Well, i never did, but that really did validate my feelings. He also has this “you’re mine” typical possessiveness but like… not in a hot way? Usually i don’t typically mind that in a dark romance, not exactly sure how the author made it unattractive here.
They got separated for 3 years and the first thing he thought of when he got back to try to see her again was how horny he was and how much he wanted to fuck her. Okay. Not to mention he basically cast her out of society because of the weight that virginity carries at this time. He doesn’t seem to feel too bad about it though?
The first couple of chapters basically spoil the entire book. The book somehow had managed to spoil itself. It doesn’t take a genius to read into which character is who in the future.
“one of the big busted girls refills it, her tits threatening to spill out of her dress. I don’t even spare her a glance.” okay so how did you know her tits were spilling out of her dress if you didn’t look? interesting. Had to include this because i had to ask my boyfriend to read it for me and we had to laugh because what the hell was that even for?
The maids somehow have the most intriguing life advice and they all feel like quotes ripped out from tumblr when i was in my depressed era, nobody actually talks like this, and why are these lines given to unimportant characters? it makes what they say also unimportant. You may think that Marians maid does become important, but her only purpose in this book is to advance Marian’s story and nothing else. All characters are like this just seem like shells to me. This maid also decided to risk her entire life to let Marian out of her room - someone she barely knows. But she decides to risk both of their lives so that Marian can go and see Robin. This doesn’t work and then the maid ends up going on her own to explain the entire situation to Robin so he can stop calling Marian a whore and actually go and try to save her from her abuser. Maybe the maid should have just done that in the first place and saved us all the hassle.
Every time Robin gets angry he decides to punch a tree or knock things over. (which is all of the time. I don’t think i’ve ever seen this man happy unless he’s fucking Marian. Actually, he’s even angry when he’s doing that so idk) It’s giving man who lost a video game punching walls vibes. Not a good look.
“You need to show her who she belongs to” is said by one of Robins friends. This feels distasteful considering Marian was currently being forced into a marriage she didn’t want and abused by that person. But hey, the girlies love a possessive man right? (no, it’s weird, knock it off)
Robin calls her a whore the moment he finds out she is to be married and says he will kill her when he was well aware before that women had no choice who they got married to, ( he was literally betrothed to her sister without his consent) but suddenly forgot about that because his feelings were hurt - whilst she’s currently being assaulted by her new fiancée but boo-hoo, poor Robins feelings are hurt. I think Robin forgot what era he was living in? Common sense doesn’t exist here, I fear.
Robin somehow manages to just rob a princes carriage with no one getting harmed. Kings guards may i remind you. This is so silly. This is a pretty minor offender considering the entire book but it makes villains useless.
Robin and Lucian are both terrible and there’s nothing attractive about Robin. Just because Lucian is worse doesn’t change that. Now let’s pause and imagine that the author actually described Robin as ugly instead of a pretty raven haired / blue eyed boy. Let’s see how it grosses out the readers then, considering how deranged and ANGRY this character is at any given time. I’m not kidding. This dude is never at peace.
What is it with everyone cupping each other’s cheeks constantly? it’s weird and repetitive and do these people not have any boundaries? Let’s also mention a few repeating offenders : they really seem to love wincing and breaking sticks. Every character apparently. Let’s not forget how everyone also loves to pick at grass and that the sex scenes are all the same just in different settings. I also wish I could count how many times Robin tells everyone how he was betrayed by his childhood friend and had his home snatched away from him.
Robin jerked off in the middle of the forest. Just feel like leaving this here :)) “releasing a breath i didn’t know i was holding” classic mention of course.
She learned sword fighting by watching Lucien and Robin do it. That is not how sword fighting works.
Marian says she misses her mom and thinks about her everyday to her maid yet she hasn’t thought of her since the start of the book and we barley even know anything about her mom, and the maid somehow fills this mom void. I couldn’t tell you one fact about her mom.
Now let’s get to the part of the book where Robin finally saves Marian from her abuser and sexual assaulter. Now THIS is a part of the book i cannot forgive. He just found out the love of his life is being abused and somehow makes it about himself and his own pain? Yes it was your fault that you didn’t save her earlier, because you kept calling her a whore when she was being forced into marriage. No, i do not have sympathy for you. Robin was checking her for bruises after saving her from an abusive fiancée and got hard during it by staring at her breasts. Nice one. Let’s not leave out the part where - the maid told him that she was beat everyday and locked up in the house and Robins response to that is to put Marian in a tight chokehold and demand her to tell him what exactly happened. Feels a little traumatic and distasteful no? I don’t think I am surprised anymore. He then tied Marian to a tree overnight and gets hard when he sees her the next morning. tied to a tree. covered in bruises, given by her abuser. Ok. - Doesn’t comfort her at all, just repeats more abuse and it’s somehow okay because he’s horny and constantly angry but screw Marians feelings amirite? Robin is impressed because Marian can peel a carrot. Not sure why that was there but umm.. 🥕.
- “i fucking hate being pussywhipped” is actually a sentence in this book. Yeah.
Going back to the whore thing - he calls her a whore for assuming that she slept with Lucien but then he slept with someone else and got mad when she was upset that he was a pretty big hypocrite because he slept with some random girl because he was big angry. Angry? Robin? Never. Marian then runs away and INSTANTLY gets caught by the villain. Marian and her sister get kidnapped and tied up and all she can talk about is how much she loves Robin whilst the sister she’s been begging to see the entire book (her pregnant sister) is forced to listen. Take that in. Her pregnant sister is gagged to a chair and kidnapped and her sister is crying because robin slept with someone else.
A twelve year old saved the day. Honestly probably the only bearable character in this book. Love ya Much.
Oops! Never mind, the author decided to kill the only good character in the book. bye Much :( They then proceed to have sex during Muchs funeral because why wouldn’t they? (what the fuck?)
I don’t know why I did this to myself. I did tell myself you know - maybe this book just isn’t for me! Now all I can think is - Hey, what the hell? 😃
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
I read this in a day - I was in a chokehold (sorry @rhiannon_thecrochanqueen and @traybake4, I couldn’t stop myself.)
This book has everything I love - second chance romance, first and only love, a truly evil villain, betrayal, revenge, angst AND spice.
The characters were everything! Even the ‘evil’ characters were so well written, there were times I could feel myself shaking with anger whenever they were on the page.
One of my favourites was obviously Sir Robin of Locksley. Never did I think I would be this attracted to Robin Hood but DAMN, this man is fineee 🥵 His relationship with Marian was the cutest (and spiciest) - I adore how their love stood the test of time, stood strong despite distance, and persevered against all odds, even during times of perceived betrayal or miscommunication. They truly are perfect together and I adored their relationship.
Although my love of Robin is fierce, my adoration of Marian stands stronger. Her journey of self-discovery was not an easy one, but it was so beautiful to see her find herself. This woman faced some seriously dark and difficult times and there were moments I worried that she would give up, but she always remained strong despite the terror. After losing her parents so young, seeing her experience a motherly figure who supported her during trying times was beautiful.
I laughed, I cussed, I had to take a cold shower (lol, I joke, but it is seriously steamy), and I cried, this was truly a fantastic reading experience.
