Cameron Hay owns a tavern called Highlander that sits between the Grant and MacPherson lands. He had been left as a babe at the doorstep of a healer in a basket with a golden brooch as the only clue to his past.
Ella MacPherson owns a golden brooch as well, a gift from her Aunt Anne. She and her sister Ada are escaping the prison the castle has become in order to go to the tavern for one night of freedom. When they are accosted outside the tavern, Cameron rescues them, sees Ella’s brooch, and follows them back to the castle.
With a bet on the table that Cameron will make Ella fall in love with him, his best friend Blair comes up with a scheme for Cameron to join him as a guard in the castle, the better to get close to Ella. So, with shorn hair and a half-mask to hide his identity, Cameron agrees. And, on his first day as a personal guard, Cameron comes face to face with naked Ella in her bath!
Thus Kenna Kendrick set up the plot line for her latest medieval Scottish romance that features a great cast of characters. Cameron and Ella have a long journey filled with intrigue, angst, confusion, steamy romance, and a surprise ending that I did not see coming. Adventurous, Intense, Mysteries to be solved in this Exciting tale. Two Sisters locked away like prisoners in there own castle. There Father the Laird trying to protect them and keep a secret. Now as young women they wanted a life. Getting harder to control them more guards were brought in. Only were they the right choice ? Was there a secret hovering over them ? Would there be protection o something else ? What of the mysterious Brooch ? Would that be the answer ? Many question in this storyline to keep you on edge to figure out all the way to the end.
Ella MacPherson and Cameron Hay met one night under difficult circumstances. From there the relationship takes many paths. Indentities, secrets, bets, pasts, even with all that could love beat the odds ?

He has carried it around his whole life hoping to find out who his parents were. When a beautiful young woman, Ella and her sister Ada are attacked behind his tavern he rescues them. He is immediately drawn to Ella but she is afraid of his advances and throws whiskey in his face and runs out. He follows to make sure she is safe and discovers that she is the lairds daughter. Ella was wearing the same brooch. Their story includes a mysterious past, family secrets, kidnapping, deception, inappropriate bets, and forbidden love. Great book with two romances. Some of it is hard to believe but still fun.

Deja Vu
This whole story I kept thinking I have read this before, but when I finally got to the end it was entirely different. I think it was the tavern owner who didn't know his past, A bet that is sure to cause hurt feelings, and two daughters sneaking out secret passages... The good news is in that other story it had some much sadder endings, in this story only a bad guy dies and rest are well working on happy endings of their own... The secret passages were a neat part of the story...

Very Good Story!
Some laughs! Laird Grant was skeevy. I figured it out with the brooch. Since Ella looked like her father that Cam wasn’t related. Then it fell into place. I’m glad they married and I thought Ada and Blair would be together. So much anger so much love lol. Back to my Highlander Series by Marti Talbott. 🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰💜💜💜💜💜😘😘😘😘😘

Ella and sneak out of the castle and head to a tavern owned by Cameron Hay. He rescues them from 3 mean men. Their father finds out and puts 2 guards on her and her sister Ada. Blair the guard in charge makes a bet with Cam on getting Ella to fall in love. Laird Grant is a Laird who has fried to kidnap them before. Lots of action in this story.

Cameron,an orphan,a bar owner,a ladies man has to win a bet to make a girl fall in love with him so his long time closest friend will be his partner at the bar. Easy right? Not when the girl has an overprotective father who keeps her imprisoned in his castle because of fear for her and her sisters safety. Their story is funny, dangerous with a bit of mystery mixed in. A great read
