Lucy Score is an instant #1 New York Times bestselling author. She grew up in a literary family who insisted that the dinner table was for reading and earned a degree in journalism.
She writes full-time from the Pennsylvania home she and Mr. Lucy share with their obnoxious cat, Cleo. When not spending hours crafting heartbreaker heroes and kick-ass heroines, Lucy can be found on the couch, in the kitchen, or at the gym.
She hopes to someday write from a sailboat, oceanfront condo, or tropical island with reliable Wi-Fi.
Divorced, empty nester Brooke is focused on becoming a new, better version of herself when she meets Vonn, the bass-playing punk rocker she's crushed on for decades. Is he the key to achieving her life-long goal of becoming a music journalist?
The short but entertaining story drew me in from the very first paragraphs and kept me engaged until the very end. I am not a huge fan of winter but this time, I was all for the snowstorm that forced Vonn to miss his flight hehe. The chemistry between Brooke and Vonn was sizzling hot and definitely was all they needed to stay warm wink wink.
"Vonn said nothing but gave Whinnie a long stroke down her neck. The horse shivered with delight. I couldn't blame her."
If only it was a full length novel, I would have given it a 5 star rating. This was my first taste of Lucy Score and wow wow wow. I can’t wait to read more!
I was in the mood for a short read and I’m so glad I read this one. Many of the books I’ve read had FMC that are 35 and younger so having this be about a 46 year old woman, who is divorced and is a mother to older kids was a nice change. It’s taken place at Christmas time but honestly could be read at anytime. Where do I even begin?!? Vonn Barlowe is a silver fox musician and hot as hell!!! I’m absolutely obsessed with both Vonn and Brooke (FMC). So much so that I actually cried TWICE while reading this short piece of magic! I LOVED this novella so freaking much. I’m 37 but that feeling of not really knowing what you’re going to do with your life once your kids grow is super relatable. The storyline was great, the length of the novella was perfect and I honestly want to read it over again right now.
You can get this short story off her website. There is a Bookfunnel link 🫶
Short, sweet, a little spicy Christmas novella to keep things moving! I’m not loving the book I’m reading so when Lucy Score added this in her newsletter today I knew I had to read it!
I actually loved the insta-love rockstar romance. Brooke is trying to refocus her life after her divorce and now that her kids are grown up. She’s been in tour with a band for two weeks when she gets almost trampled in a mosh pit and gets to take a trip with the grumpiest guy in the band.
I loved Brooke and Vonn. They connected so quickly and deeply! One snowy Christmas and everything changed and I loved every second!
One Night Only is about a free-lance writer, Brooke Zimmerman, covering the goodbye tour of the "Sonic Arcade". With a gyrating Santa, Vonn Barlowe, playing bass guitar, the punk rock version of White Christmas when Brooke some how becomes an unintended victim of a mosh pit. Vonn was able to get her from under those people and then taken her for medical assistance.
I read this story before in an anthology, it was steaming then as it is now. Something I might have wished for in my younger years, being with a band member, now I'm lucky enough to remember the words of my favorite songs.
Lucy Score books are amazing! Once you start reading you can’t stop! Brooke is a middle aged mum trying to reinvent herself. Both kids have left her house, she’s single and trying to change her life. She’s always wanted to be a musical writer and is given the chance to go on tour with a band who’s retiring. Only the main guitarist is moody and won’t give her what she needs. She goes to their concert on Christmas Eve and ends up getting hurt In a mosh pit. Her hero, the moody guitarist who spends one unforgettable night with Brooke! So good!
Cute! I really appreciated this older couple Christmas romance. I just wish the epilogue had stopped at cupcakes and glitter, and not added parades, fireworks, and flying unicorns to proclaim its HEA.
Brooke is on tour with a band and is almost trampled in a mosh pit. The grumpy member of the band, Vonn, comes to her rescue. She is a divorcee' with 2 grown children who keeps talking herself out of finding love. Vonn wants no part of her saying no to him, so he takes the opportunity to rescue her. He then spends some time with her and she gets to know the real him. She likes what she finds and soon she realizes that she is falling for him. You will need to read this story to find out what happens between these 2. It was a cute, easy read.
Okay, this short story was absolutely perfect. Brooke has always had a crush on lead singer of Sonic Arcade, Vonn. So when this 40-something year old finds herself in the ER after touring with the band for 2 weeks… her pulse starts to race a bit more.
Brooke is trying to find her way as a new post divorce Brooke, not Shane & Addy’s mom, not an ex-wife, just Brooke. She wasn’t expecting to fall even farther into that silver fox’s spell, but being trapped in the house on Christmas Eve, she lets down her walls. As does Vonn.
I loved how quick this story was but also how realistic and authentic the story felt. Highly recommend!
Von Barlowe singer and song writer for Sonic Arcade. Brooke Zimmerman/Aucker is a divorcée with 2 grown kids who followed with the band for a story. This is the farewell tour. While at the Concert, Brooke gets trampled on and Von takes her to the ER. And the most unexpected thing happens. Von is bossing Brooke around and takes care of her. She is so shocked that she hardly speaks. Oh boy, wait till she gets her wits about her. Hang on to your hats.
I read...A LOT of books in a year's time. Every so often one comes along that sticks in my mind as a "keeper" to be re-read in the future. One Night Only is one of those. It struck quite a memory of being single, mid-life and in need of a new start myself. I liked the positive emphasis on the storyline as well as the "real person" quality of the characters. Thanks for a great feel-good holiday read.
Brooke is a 40-something music journalist who gets trampled in the mosh pit of a punk rock concert on Christmas Eve. Vonn, the sexy bass guitarist, jumps ff the stage to save her. He takes care of her injury and they spend the holiday together.
If you have an hour to read and are looking for a Christmas novella, check this one out!
I recently discovered Lucy Score and I have to say that I am loving her writing. This was a sweet, fast read on Christmas Eve (that put's me 1 book closer to my reading challenge goal). Since it was a Christmas Eve Story, it was the perfect night to read it. I enjoy stories where the characters find themselves as they find each other.
This was a super cute days read of a mom trying to “become” after becoming a divorced mama of 2 children they were hiw adults.
As she goes in a quest to get a top story from a famous band member, it changes her life quickly…. For the good or the bad, you have to read to find out!
Quick, cute, easy read! Well written and fun main characters

My first read of the year and it’s was great! Lucy Score did an amazing job with this sweet short novella about a strong woman, Brooke, and her long last crush, Vonn. It was awesome to read how you can face changes in a meaningful way while you BECOME your new you! Cheers for a fabulous new year 🥂🍾
4* Brooke is still trying to adjust to her new life the kids have grown her ex remarried. Vonn is coming to the end of his farewell tour after the death of his best friend and fellow band member he's never spoken out. When Brooke is sent for an interview to achieve her dream job he's hesitant until she gets hurt. I thoroughly enjoyed reading this story.
I just received Lucy’s latest newsletter and saw this book was included so I stopped the book I was reading (and not really loving) and started this one. I loved it!! Of course it was too quick but everything you need in a great story was included. Loved Vonn and his romantic gestures!
This was a wonderful quick read for a new-years Eve! Fell in love with this silver haired fox and middle aged mom in the middle of a life change! A perfect little book for the last read of the year!
Novella that tells the story of a aging punk rocker bassist and the middle age divorcee that wants tone a music journalist. It seems like it should be a fantasy but Lucy Score writes it so you believe it is true. And she makes both Vonn and Brooke come across as real.
I don't even know when I got this, I was looking thru my kindle for Christmas books to read, and there it was. It's a great holiday novella, with characters that aren't 20 something! I enjoyed how much was really there for such a short story
Loved this rocker Christmas story! Lucy tells a story like no other. Vonn is on a farewell tour. Brooke is a journalist. He saves her from the mosh pit and takes care of her. They share one night. Such a great read!
