Tom Sawyer and I have an interesting history. As you might expect, I saw the Wishbone episodes--they did a two-parter--based on the book as a kid; I did so more than once, if I remember correctly. When I was in seventh grade, we attended an assembly where a local theatre group performed scenes from the novel; I remember our teacher was waiting for our long-winded principal to finish talking over the intercom before explaining to us the history of the story, but ended up getting so frustrated that she talked over him. The book was also part of assigned summer reading my freshman year, but, I skimmed it; most of what I wrote in my essay was based on either the aforementioned play or the Wishbone episode.
So, when I randomly found this version of the classic story at a local thrift store, how could I not pick it up? While I've read several Wishbone books over the past decade or so, this was my first time reading this one. I enjoyed it; those who have trouble with the antiquated English used in the original may find this version easier to understand. While I wholeheartedly suggest reading or listening to the original Mark Twain work if you can, this was still great fun.
"The Adventures of Tom Sawyer" gets a special touch in this adaptation of Mark Twain's famous story. Wishbone will leave readers wagging their tails and begging for more!
