This book is for children, so I will rate it for children. I thoroughly enjoyed reading about M.L.K. Jr.'s learning experiences, what made him a great civil rights leader and orator. He knew, and was raised, with a strong sense of what was right and what was wrong.

In the biography from the Heroes of America series, Martin Luther King, Jr., the author Herb Boyd goes over the life of civil rights hero Martin Luther King, Jr. After reading this book, I truly got a better understanding of King’s life and the work he did, the struggles he overcame, etc. When King gives his famous speech, “I have a dream”, it really resonates with you. You feel inspired to make a change with the injustice you have in your life. In the story, as a young child, Martin starts preaching and imitating his father, who was the pastor. It encourages me and makes me know I want to do better. I would recommend this book to a classmate and every minority in the United States because every person should know King’s life story, it’s an important part of American history. However, I do wish the book had a bit more action, even if there wasn't much other than things like his house was put on fire or he was assassinated, but the author should have still found a way to describe it better. I definitely will continue reading the Heroes of America series to get a better understanding of our nation’s history. I I give this book a 4/5!

I recently read martin Luther King, Jr.'s "I Have a Dream" speech in its entirety. That speech was so eloquently written and thus delivered that it sparked an interest on the man who led his people to change in a peaceful nonviolent manner. That's why I bought this book today and read it in 45 minutes. I discovered that there was much more to learn about this man and others involved in the civil rights movement. For every inch of progress there was loss of life both innocent and among those who fought on the side of liberty for all Americans. The most prevalent part of the book for me was the speech he gave in Memphis in which he spoke of the fact that he had "been to the mountain top" and that he may not be here when the fruits of his labor ripen. The very next day, he was assassinated. Im grateful this book was written in a very base way so that children of all ages could read and understand it, lest we forget.

This book is about an important person and that person is Martin Luther king, Jr. In this book, he tries to change America so that people could get along with others around them in a different tone and also when he goes to Washington D.C he was going to say his " I have a dream " speech in front of millions of people.

What I liked about this book is that Martin had impressed many people and also myself because when I was reading this book he had created something that nobody had done before and that was to make white people communicate with black people in the United States of America and that had changed America in many years from today.

"I just want to do God's will, and he's allowed me to go to the mountain top and I've looked over and I have seen the promised land". During the age of the civil rights movement there were many influential individuals who help bring about change; and one of the most influential of them all in my opinion was Martin Luther King Jr. In Herb Boyd telling of this amazing individual he starts by telling the story of young martin growing up with the dream of being a preacher. Throughout his young life he noticed and was appalled by segregation and after graduating from college he put his foot forward to becoming a minister. This book, in detail, showcases Martin's journey through life from early youth to adulthood fighting for change and even as a young man people believed he would be great.

This book utilized several Illustrations, used to help place emphasis on certain moments on the adjacent page. For example, on pg. 230 in conjunction with his quote, "The whirlwinds of revolt will continue to shake the foundations of our nation until the bright day of justice emerges". there is an Illustration of Martin standing before the scales of justice. On several other pages the illustrations helped me sense the power and emotion of the moments therein and in the text. Boyd captures the feeling of Martin's words very well and in the final pages talking about his legacy and those who knew him the eloquence of the words moved me. While there are many biographies on Dr. King I believe for younger demographics this is a good book to read I highly recommend it.
