“Even if that temporary family was nothing but an illusion doomed to fade… for just a little longer… for just a little bit longer, I wanted things to stay that way.”
I enjoyed reading this volume because it expands the world in such a satisfying way. Even though I already know everything that’s coming, I still find myself completely invested in every conversation. There’s a lot of dialogue and exposition, but it never drags for me because every scene adds something meaningful. I especially liked revisiting everything about the Organization. Knowing the reasons behind many of its decisions doesn’t make me agree with them, but it does make them feel more believable. I also love seeing the characters wrestle with everything they’ve learned and begin deciding for themselves what kind of future they want.
Ugh! I feel so bad for Isley. Honestly, even when I first read this part of the story, I couldn’t help but feel a little sad, and rereading it again didn’t change that at all. His story still hits me the same way every time. By the way, Helen absolutely stole the show in this volume. It makes perfect sense that she’s on the cover. I have a really soft spot for her, and every time she shows up, she put a smile on my face.
One of my favorite things about this volume is how much it changes the way I look at the story without changing any of the events themselves. It adds so much context to everything that came before, and I appreciate that even more on a re-read. I also love how it explores the idea that knowing the truth can be just as important as having the strength to fight. This volume isn’t packed with constant action, but I never miss it because I enjoy spending time with these characters and seeing the world become richer with every chapter.
