3 stelle stanno bene.
Re-reading a favorite from my young adulthood. (I was fortunate enough to get a complete set of the orginal issues at my Local Comic Shop for a great price!)
And wow! While I'm looking at it with a more adult eye and 30+ years experience, but this immediately captivated me and brought me back to that time.
From the art, to the "flipped" format that used to be so common for translated manga, this is just a FUN read! No, it's not as nuanced as stuff that has come out since, but it doesn't NEED to be.
And I appreciated that it had a planned beginning, middle and end. (Yes, most manga does, but it may take years, or even a lifetime to get there. I'm loving ONe Piece, but that is NOT a short saga.)
Ultimately Mai: the Psychic Girl is a fairly light and shallow 80's schoolgirl action romp that would be relatively unremarkable if not for the mind-blowingly beautiful art by Ryoichi Ikegami, one of the greatest comic artists of all time. It's like if Norman Rockwell illustrated Archie Comics for a year
3. Stereotip 'Komik adalah bacaan anak kecil'. ...Lah wong saya belum SD aja kok ya udah dikasih hadiah buku ini--yang temanya soal perang nuklir, konspirasi internasional, pertarungan berdarah-darah (meskipun gak rame), dan sedikit bumbu nudity.
Kind of interesting how this is basically just the same as Valiant's Harbinger series. In fact, it would only take one small change to have this entire series happen at the same time as Harbinger.
