Michael is the poor cousin, living on charity and a scholarship to an exclusive boys' school, Collingsworth, after his parents' deaths. With the help of a sympathetic teacher, Michael is outfitted for the formal masked ball, and when the girls' school pulls out at the last minute, the Headmaster of Collingsworth holds the event with only the boys of Collingsworth attending--and Michael may have the chance to recognize his dream and dance with his longtime crush, David. But will it mean nothing in the end and leave Michael despondent and alone for the holidays?
Andy Eisenberg, a lifelong avid reader, writes as an escape from her career as a microbiologist. She has more interests than time, enjoying everything from building furniture to needlework. A cancer survivor, she has spent the time since her recovery in more quiet pursuits and has concentrated on writing--one of those things that she always wanted to do but put off until there was more time.
Her husband, her own personal happy-ever-after, provides the background music to her writing in the form of his PS3 and XBox360. Andy and her husband are both transplanted Yankees who now make their home in Virginia at the foot of the Blue Ridge Mountains. They live with two large dogs, three cats, and assorted fish and houseplants and enjoy watching baseball and football together.
This is a wonderfully warm 'rags to riches' story which happens to end with Christmas. The focus is on the main character, Michael, as he struggles to imagine a place for himself in the society of the early 20th century.
He starts out as the 'poor cousin' who hopelessly admires his classmate David for six years of school. Always being on the outside of his class as well as society due to lack of money, he doesn't expect to lead an easy life. This miraculously changes when a teacher discovers Michael's cousin has cheated him out of the money that was rightfully his after his parents' death. Suddenly a future going to college is possible. Having discoverd that David returns his interest, Michael now faces a happy future and gets his happy ending.

I really enjoyed this story. It was well wriiten, with a style and voice I thoroughly enjoyed. The plot was nicely paced and I found myself easily falling under it's spell and suspending any disbelief for the sweet, lovely story that it was. The characters were extremely likable and I truly craving their HEA. A sweet, lovely Cinderella style read I would recommend to anyone who enjoys m/m romance.
