This book is FANTASTIC, it's about different stories of different soldiers who were in Iraq, fighting for our beautiful country, during the War on Terror. Such as Sergeant Scott Montoya, he was in a huge firefight while invading Baghdad.

Even though it was a short book it was good. I like hearing and reading about the different war stories and true acts of heroism. I would recommend this to anyone who likes war stories. This was a double sided book so the other book would have the same review

War Heroes Voices From Iraq
Allan Zullo
To begin with, this book was about ten war heroes that fought in Iraq and did everything they could for America. There were ten heroes from this war Sergeant Scott Montoya, Corporal Jeremiah Workman, Staff Sergeant Daniel Bogart, Specialist Jason Mike, Corporal Marco Martínez, Hospital Corpsman Second Class Juan Rubio, Lance Corporal Mark Camp, Hospital Corpsman Third Class Joshua Chiarini, Chief Warrant Officer Lori Hill, and Staff Sergeant Chad Malmberg. Sergeant Scott Montoya saved five people in one day which was a big event. Corporal Jeremiah Workman went into many houses and fought off insurgents in Iraq. Staff Sergeant Daniel Bogart was the person that stopped IED's from blowing up witch was an improvised explosive device typically known as a road side bomb. Specialist Jason Mike rescued his three comrades and helped some insurgents. Marco Martínez was considered a thug when he was younger but changed that around when he joined the marines and killed lots of terrorists. Corpsman Second Class Juan Rubio did everything he could do to save his friends and he ended up saving many soldiers, and when he got hurt he still kept on saving lives. Lance Corporal Mark Camp lost many friends from an IED and got bad burns when trying to fight the bomb off. Hospital Corpsman Third Class Joshua Chiarini was a smart man and did not kill an insurgent in the open field because he knew he could make the insurgent give valuable information. Chief Warrant Lori Hill flew a Kiowa witch is a military plane and shot down enemies. Staff Sergeant Chad Malmbeg was in along tiring battle and finished it off by shooting an AT4 at a big group of insurgents. Finally, these are what the main characters were like and what they did in Iraq.
There was many themes that were important to recognize in this book. First, all the soldiers showed pride to American and fought for our country. I found this as one of the themes because they were willing to sacrifice their lives to keep us safe. Another theme was working hard and set a goal to overcome. They all worked hard by doing jobs they thought was hard and they set a goal so this way they could beat their enemies. Finally, the last theme was heroes are rewarded for what the accomplish. This was a theme because all the heroes fought their hardest and in return got different medals. All these people in the military sacrifice their lives everyday to keep you and your country safe.

War Heroes by Allan Zullo is a non-fiction novel about how the US soldiers train, help each other out in combat, and how they deal with their enemy’s. The soldiers love to fight for their country and keep the people that live here safe. How they risk their lives for civilians even if they aren’t American and keeping them safe.

Staff Sergeant Chad Malmberg must find a way to save his convoy ambushed by well armed insurgents. He faces grim odds, because he and his small band of soldiers are outnumbered ten to one..... and they’re running out of ammo.

Five times throughout a fierce firefight, marine scout sniper Scott Montoya spots an injured comrade in the street. And five times Scott disregards his own safety and rushes out into the open, braving enemy fire to rescue each wounded marine.

These and other American heroes risked their lives serving their country in Iraq. You will never forget their incredible true stories.

War heros voices of Iraq to me was not a very exciting book until it got to the war scene. The book made me think about all the people that died horrible deaths there and how long this war has gone. The part of the book that is haunting my dreamers is when it describes when the people were on fire and almost died. If you are a person that loves suspense, action and leadership I would definitely recommend this book for you.

this is about many American soldiers who got medals for acting very well and doing so many things for their country. it shows how each one of the people felt and thought about during the war and when they got the medal. I didn't really like it because it was like a long speech then a story.

I like that it has different stories about marines and stuff but there is no beginning like it starts at the middle of the career. That just bothered me because i usually read full stories about there career.

Did not finish. I rarely give up on a book, but this writing did not engage me at all. I really tried. I wanted to hear these phenomenal stories of our war heroes. But the stories were not well told.

A good storybook about the Iraq war, there were a lot of interesting stories involved, tons of vehicles and buildings being blown up, lots of gunfire, loads of landmines, and lots of freedom.

War Heroes Voices from Iraq is a non-fiction book about true stories of United States military personal who are serving their country in Iraq. Each chapter is written by a service member telling his or her story of fighting the war on terror. As I read this book, I could feel the pain that each person was going through. The way they told their stories, made you feel as if you were right there with them. War Heroes Voices from Iraq will have a significant impact on the readers because of the devastation and loss our troops go through every day while fighting in a war. This book will have a lasting value because I will never forget what the troops have done for our country. War Heroes Voices from Iraq will have significant and lasting impact on its readers because of the military members who serve, suffer pain and even die for their country.
After September 11, 2001, when al-Qaeda struck the United States in the most devastating terrorist attack in the nation’s history, President George W. Bush accused Iraq of being a threat to the free world. He accused Iraq, under the dictator Saddam Hussein, of having links to al-Qaeda. He believed that Iraq was giving the terrorists weapons of mass destruction. President Bush launched Operation Iraqi Freedom to invade Iraq and overthrow the dictator, defeat his army and dismantle his government. After the attaches on September 11th, Americans joined the military in record numbers to serve and protect our nation. “The continued mission of the U.S. military has come at a price: more than 4,000 American troops killed and another 30,000 seriously wounded as of March 2008, the end of the fifth year of the war” (3). Brave men and women fought to protect our country from having another terrorist attach like September 11th. People who serve in the military leave behind their parents, wives, husbands, children and their everyday lives to serve in a dangerous environment because they want to protect the United States. I will always be thankful for the people who serve to keep me and my family safe.
People who serve in the military, not only suffer incredible physical pain, but they also suffer emotional pain. Corporal Jeremiah Workman was part of Operation Phantom Fury, the largest military action since the invasion of Iraq. The mission took place in the Iraqi city of al-Fallujah. Many troops died in the fight or were severely injured. Corporal Workman had to witness his team members get killed by grenade explosions. “I’ve never seen a dead Marine before. For a moment, his mind went blank and he stood still. We just lost Marines in combat. I just lost two of my friends” (27). Most service personal who suffer life changing injuries or witness death also suffer from depression, especially once their tour is over and they come home.
Death is a major consequence of war. Not only do our military troops and our enemy troops die, civilian casualties happen more than not. Thousands and thousands of people have died in this war. One of the most dangerous ways of fighting is improvised explosive devices, or IED’s. Our military has special troops who are part of the Explosive Ordnance Disposal team. Their job is to dismantle IED’s. Staff Sergeant Daniel Bogart is part of the EOD team. He has seen the devastation an IED can do to military vehicles, supply trucks and his fellow marines. If a person drives over or steps on an IED, is blows up and kills or severely damages who is around it. “Suddenly, to their stunned amazement, a section of the entire road flew up and over them as if sucked off the ground by a fierce tornado. Then came a thunderous roar. The explosion was so powerful that it lifted their 26-ton vehicle off the ground” (37). Death affects not only the service personal, but their family and friends.
After reading War Heroes Voices from Iraq, I have a greater respect for the military and all the people who serve in it. I will never forget what I read and the people who wrote it. I can only imagine the pain they went through in Iraq. These men and women did countless brave actions to protect their men and their country. Because of the military members who serve, suffer pain and even die for their country; War Heroes Voices from Iraq has left a significant and lasting impact on its readers.

Book Review By: Jacob Grote
War Heroes Voices From Iraq by Allan Zullo tells the story of ten “war heroes” and their accomplishments in the war in Iraq. In this story ten men and women relive there most heroic moments in the war. All the soldiers have different stories and different situations. Some are people who defuse IEDs, some are pilots, some are in the field doctors, and some are marines or Navy. Allan Zullo wanted to write a book to tell some of the breathtaking acts of heroism shown since the war in Iraq began. He picked ten soldiers that received some of the highest military medals. He conducted long interviews with each of the veterans. All of these stories are told as they happened.
I would strongly recommend this book for anybody that wants to see what war is really like. This book is very graphic. It talks about people getting all sorts of injuries from burns, to shrapnel hitting them all over their bodies, to gun shot wounds, and even explosions. It is kind of hard to relate to this book as I have never been to war. This story does however show you what war is really like and what people fighting must do to survive. Many of the soldiers spoken about in this book have had to make extreme sacrifices, like leaving their families, pregnant wives, children, and their old lives. I think this book is more appropriate for an audience a little bit older. I think this, because the graphic details in this book are extremely detailed.
The veterans that were willing to relive their most heroic acts are Sergeant Scott Montoya, Corporal Jeremiah Workman, Staff Sergeant Daniel Bogart, Specialist Jason Mike, Corporal Marco Martinez, Hospital Corpsman Second Class Juan Rubio, Lance Corporal Mark Camp, Hospital Corpsman Third Class Joshua Chiarini, Chief Warrant Officer Lori Hill, and Staff Sergeant Chad Malmberg. All these people told their story as it happened. Some of these soldiers saved wounded men, killed countless insurgents, did life saving first-aid, and tried to rescue soldiers who were in life threatening situations. They all showed amazing courage when facing great danger. For all the acts of courage these soldiers showed through out the book they all received one of the highest rewards given to a soldier.

The book "War Heroes: Voice from Iraq", by Allan Zullo, is about the many brave men and women that have fought in Iraq, seen things we hope we will never see, and done things we pray we will never do. However they do their country a great favor by protecting us from harm. This book tells individual stories from those men and women and how they had to deal with this war. This book doesn't really have a main character since it's about the lives of the men and women and not just one person. The plot is different in every chapter since every chapter is about another persons story.

I honestly think this was an amazing book. I love war books and this met my needs. I love hearing these people's stories, even though some were sad since their friends were dying, because I like to know how they fight, how their tactics change, what weapons and vehicles they use, and how they deal with this stuff. This book moved me, in some situations ( I didn't cry I have some honor), when people were in a battle and they realize their friend just died. If I was in the Army and my best friend died I would be devastated. The author did an amazing job writing this book and I enjoyed reading this and i want to read his other books.

This book deserves 5 stars. I loved this book as I said before. I loved every part of this book BUT the death parts. I would recommend this book to anyone that loves war like me, wants to learn more about war, has a family member who is in the army, or people joining or thinking about joining the army or any fighting force that leaves the US to protect us. I would not change a thing in this book. Even though there was a lot of death I still enjoyed reading this.

Imagine life behind enemy lines, and under attack every day and night. This book I'm talking about today is full of stories of marines with heroic acts of war. When their location is key their fighting is also. And this is how begins.
When you're in a war do you want to fight in a good climate or a very bad climate. These marines stories are all in Iraq which as the reader knows is not a very appealing climate. In Iraq the temperature is around 110-120 all of the time, and then there is a heat index which makes the whole year of service suck even moreover . In one of the story's a soldier said that in his whole platoon all of his guys had had heat stroke at least 2 times. So as the reader can see the soldiers in Iraq go through some pretty bad conditions just to keep us safe throughout our days.
Can believe that people, for their job, live in horrible conditions. In Iraq, U.S. soldiers have to live in these horrible and unforgiving condition . They do this all while fighting for our country. One of the marines story's says it was one of the hottest days of all time and it was a strategy for the Iraqis to fight on hot days because the Americans couldn't handle it as well. We won the fight but they needed water bad so they called in a Blackhawk to get water for them and it took them 3 hours to get water. What I'm saying is that soldiers need a little more respect.
Do you want to live like this because I sure don't. My book was called war heroes voices from Iraq. Does anybody like living in extremely hot environment and under attack during this. After the reader has read this book they will want to thank you to all the marines out their.

War Heroes Voices From Iraq Book Review

This book was about the solders in Iraq and how dangerous the war is. There are ten true tales about how brave and heroic the solders are for example in one story the solder goes back in to a flaming car while bullets are just barley missing him. This book really shows you how brave the soldiers are that they would go thought anything to save a comrade. This novel told me a lot about the war that I didn’t know about before. Im glad I read this book.

This book was very good in my opinion. I say this because its filled with action throughout the book and makes you think how brave and smart the solders in Iraq are. I like how the book had a lot of detail for example when they would described the loud sounds of the explosions and how the bullets are buzzing right over there heads. This book was entertaining.

This novel was tremendous. If I were to rate it on a scale of one to ten I would give it a nine. The reason why is because the description put you right in the book and you could visualize everything that was going on. In conclusion the book lets you know how smart and heroic the solders in Iraq are. Also the book was very descriptive and I knew exactly what was going on in each story

Voices from Iraq
Allan Zullo

War heroes, voices from Iraq is 5 separate true stories of marines in the heat of battle in Iraq. The book explains the story of 5 different soldiers and their experiences in the Iraqi war. The book focuses on marines in the hear of battle and what they did to help save others. There are stories ad marines being ambushed and having to fight back. The book explains te actions that took as a medic of a field men to help save their comrades. The medics were explains to be running around tending the downed marines while his comrades helped him with cover fire.

The theme of this book is to never give up as well as to help each other in any way possible. The reason that you never ever give up is because like the marines, if you give up you will lose. And in a marines case you will probably die. The reason why you should always support your friends of family is because working together in unison is much safer and more efficient way of working and cooperating. If marines don't cooperate then bad things happen like mix ups and huge mistakes that might cost them their life. That is why forking with each other in unison and to never give up is the theme of the book.

"War Heroes: Voices from Iraq (Ten True Tales)" by Allan Zullo is an exceptional book that shows the true american patriotism. It features 10 true tales of some of the bravest American soldiers facing opposing forces in Iraq. Some of the soldiers even received the Medal of Honor for their brave actions. That is what makes this book really special because the Medal of Honor is the highest ranking award in the Army.

I really think this is an awe-inspiring book because it shows the true bravery of American soldiers. One of my favorite chapters is when a sniper for the US Army dives into heavy enemy fire to save 5 American lives. If he hadn't then he would have to live with the fact that he left 5 fellows out to die. This shows the true brutality of war.

I would recommend this book to sixth graders and up because of the scary and graphic images that the author describes. I think anyone in that range should read this book because there is so much to be learned from a couple of pages. It helps you realize what you should be thankful for.

My book is called War Heroes by Allan Zullo. War Heroes was really good because it was all about the Iraq war and how it was handled. It was also about what the soldiers did to keep this country safe and how they kept going. They were really brave because they were fighting for hours. I learned that Iraq is a dangerous place for the soldiers that were in the war. In the book it said, "In Iraq death has often lurked inside rusty tire rims, discarded shoe boxes, and oil cans." This shows me that they might have hidden dangerous things in these materials.

I like this book because it's all about the military and how they fought the war. I learned how they were fighting and how they tried to win the war. I like how it tells you about how they were in war and the history behind it! I like that the author tells us a lot of stuff that we did not know about in the history of the Iraq War.

I would recommend this book if you like wars and their history. It's also a good book if you want to learn more about the Iraq War.

War Heroes Voices from Iraq by Allan Zullo was an okay book. It was all about true stories that happened in Iraq. Overtime they all served for our country. Plus it had ten true tales about soldiers in the Iraq wars and the soldiers accomplishments.

In my opinion I didn't really like this book because it really wasn't my type of book. But I did like how the author made it exciting to read but like I said before it wasn't my type of book that I would like to read. I didn't like how he didn't put a picture of the soldiers in the book. It would've been cool to see them in the book.

I would recommend this book to whoever likes war books or just nonfiction books. Probably 3-6 grade readers.

The book War heroes by Allen Zullo is a story about the war in Iraq. This has stories and stories about people in the war. The book has so many stories about different places and people it.

If you have an interest in history, and most especially these amazing men who put so much on the line for thier friends and country. This is the book for you.
Facinating detailed stories of what these men did to recieve thier awards.
I just wish we in this country were a little more careful about how we use the word hero. Because after you read this book, it will be hard to think of a basketball player, or movie star as hero.A fun readVery inspiring accounts of the actions of Medal of Honor Recipients. Easy to read and you don't want to put it down.

This book was about 10 True hereos that risked their lives serving their country. This book showed a great deal of wise decisions when pressure is on, it gave great moves that the soldiers did with their weapons. This book was great. It had a good lede, rising action and turning point and all of that... It was great. I like it because it had very good descriptive words it was very suspensful with the action. Reading this book made me feel like in the war. This book is descibed just like a video game i played with all my friends..."Modern Warfare 2". I like anything that has to do in the battlefield and this book was all about that, which is why i give it a Thumbs up.

this book opened my eyes to what the guys/women really go through. it was a shocking reality.

this book also taught me some interesting things and to never give in and never give up.

This book helped me to understand im not the only who feels like a mess up who is trying to turn their life around (hint chapter: from thug to hero )

The book is all about the men/women who have served and what they go through... it is chilling at times but a really great read. i never wanted to put it down. but at parts you just have to stop and breathe and think.

I'm not into war stories but some of my students are obsessed with war so I thought I'd read one of my war books. I know these stories are for kiddos, but this book leaves out a lot of the death and devastation that comes with war and I think it's important for the kids to know that war isn't fun and games. But this book definitely makes you appreciate what the brave men and women who serve our country do for us. I sure couldn't do it.

I think this book is a wonderful book. In this book I can clearly tell that the author is trying to tell us what is really going on in the war from true heroes who have and still risk there lives, this tells the whole store of a battle unlike the news report. What makes this book better than most others in my mind is that it isn't just one guy talking about one battle the whole book, it is several guys, one per chapter with that chapter only being one story.

Every American should put this on their reading list! It is amazing to me that there are individuals out there willing to sacrifice all for our sakes! I was brought to tears over and over again on their humanity, strength, courage, and humility! We are blessed as Americans to have such outstanding soldiers defending our right to freedom...the freedom I feel I take for granted waaay too often! Thank you to those who serve doesn't seem to even come close to enough.
