When Bonnie Cassidy catches her fiancé cheating on her, she leaves the same day. No second chances, no questions asked. She knows who she is and what she’s worth. And it’s more than that. She ends up back home, living with her dad above the mechanic’s garage she grew up in. What she doesn’t expect to find is Alejandro Castela—a grumpy mechanic working for her father.
Alejandro has his own reasons to hate everyone and everything around him, things he doesn’t necessarily want to share. He never expected Bonnie, never expected to let her in and become the only person he likes being around. He never expected her to slowly climb over the walls around his heart and make a place for herself there.
He wants to buy the garage from her father, have his own name on it. But he’s breaking the only rule his boss has—his daughter is off limits.
Violet Bloom is a thirty-something woman who discovered her love of writing later in life. It wasn’t until after going to college and receiving a Bachelor of Science in Nursing, and working in health care for close to a decade that she realized she had another passion—writing.
DNF at 25%. The book is very poorly edited. Preachy to the extent that being a fat woman myself who is gaining body and self confidence—myself being preachy about diet culture and fatphobia and shit— this was annoying as hell.
The fact that she felt SO superior to her sister who obviously struggles with disordered eating was pretty shitty honestly. The main character pointed out several times how her sister was always unhappy and stressed and looked ill, and that her blood work and blood pressure was worse than the MC’s and she’s fat??? That’s not cool. It’s fucking shitty to feel superior about your medical wellness and how you’re better because you are medically well.
Also? Super just an annoying character otherwise. She contradicts herself constantly, saying she’s the most extroverted person and doesn’t realize she annoys the shit out of people, yet back in her hometown she doesn’t want to shoot the shit with the folks just trying to catch up with her.
I got 25% into the book, there has barely been a romance plot in this romance book, and it’s entirely about fatphobia. You know how there are movies or shows or whatever that try to be woke with more diversity in the cast, and then that diverse character(s) has all the shit thrown at them and it ends up being more harmful because it’s not just showing them as a goddamn person just like the other people?? This book is like that. It’s so focused on it that it’s actively making it worse, at least to me. If you want a mixed-race romance with a fat female protagonist that’s actually good? Read a Talia Hibbert novel. A better way of reducing fatphobia is to show them as a regular ass person who happens to be fat and it’s not a whole THING. Those kind of books are the ones that have actually helped my body confidence. This book would not.
My life as a fat woman does not revolve around thinking about diet culture constantly or fatphobia. Sure I absolutely deal with that and it sucks but. Idk. Maybe it’s an entirely different experience and I shouldn’t equate them. But. As a fat woman who has made huge strides with self confidence and body confidence and eating and all that— it seems that if she was truly so body confident and food neutral she wouldn’t be constantly thinking about it to the length she is.
I don’t know y’all. Maybe I’m being too preachy about this book being too preachy. It just hit me wrong and I’m fired up about it.
I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
Unfortunately, I had to DNF this book about 25% in. I didn’t love Bonnie as a character. This book does deal with some fat phobia and although Bonnie loves herself and the body she’s in, I found the way she describes intuitive eating as almost preachy? Idk it just rubbed me the wrong way and I didn’t love it.
When Alejandro showed up though, it was a bit better but not enough for me to continue. Because I didn’t finish the book, or get far enough, I didn’t feel like giving it a rating was fair.
As always, Violet not only convinced me with her beautiful covers but also with her amazing writing style.
Bonnie is a confident, independent and strong minded business woman. Her calling is to teach other people how to eat intuitively, and to show that having a little extra weight on the scales isn't necessarily a bad thing. She herself is a part of the plus size community and clearly deals with the topic as everyone should: self-confidence and open about it.
Aljeandro is grumpy, hot and passionated about cars. If it is fate that he is working for her father and not only does share the same love for older cars as she does, can be disputed. But fact is that he has been drawn to her since the beginning.
Although he was really confused about his feelings in the beginning, he realized quickly that Bonnie is a unique and special woman in many ways. Also it was very lovely to see how both of them got closer and closer to each other over the time and how Aljeandro goes from his rather quiet and grumpy way to a more open and affectionate version towards Bonnie. All in all, it is 100% clear that both support each other in every decision and are having an equal relationship.
I really wanted to like this book, so bad. It is the first book I’ve read with an inclusive, plus size FMC. But I ended up DNF. Bonnie’s inner monologue is so very repetitive and the author basically beats you in the head with the diet culture topic. I mean, just over and over. I also don’t appreciate that the fact that Bonnie being plus size is constantly the topic of conversation. Like, as a mid size woman, I love that this book was inclusive, but being plus size shouldn’t be the WHOLE plot. There also was not a real ‘climax’ to the book. And the only confrontational aspects of it are juvenile. Writing was also fairly rushed, IMO. It does have good smutt scenes, but towards the end of the book (I DNF 90% through, I just couldn’t take it anymore) it’s basically all smutt with a few page breaks in between so take that as you will. Refinement and editing would make this book so much better.
Over the Hood is one of those heart-warming books that you read while being all cozy in bed with a cup of tea. It honestly took me by surprise. Author Violet Bloom takes us on an emotional ride filled with so many amazing characters. Like I wish they were real because I want to be Bonnie's friend so badly.
The characters are so relatable and easy to connect to. Our FMC is Bonnie who just finds out that her fiancé cheated on her, so she moves back to her hometown to her dad's garage, where she meets Alejandro. They have that cute grumpy-sunshine type of relationship that I just always love to read about.
If you are looking for something sweet but also spicy then you definitely need to check this book out. This book comes out on October 12th and I am so grateful that I received an ARC of this book by Nisha's Books and Coffee PR.
Bonnie’s caught her fiancé cheated on her and left him that moment and went home. Home is above the business of her dad. When she gets there she sees Alexjandro who is a mechanic and works for her Dad and lives upstairs in the second apartment. Bonnie is a sweet, smart, fun, and loving person and Alexjandro is a brooding grump that barely talks. The two start to become friends but secretly they both want more. The problem is Bonnie’s dad has a rule nobody from the garage dates his daughter. Great characters and storyline Highly recommended Amazing Book. Love Alexjandro and Bonnie and the supporting characters are very lovable. This is my first book by this author definitely not my last
I am so obsessed with this book. So obsessed. I loved how from the get go we’re introduced to a strong, powerful and confident woman that is purely inspiring. I absolutely adore Bonnie and the way she holds herself and the people around her in such high standards and respect. Bonnie creates and radiates so much love for herself and those she cares for. Not only those she cares for but those she meets as well. She’s the type of person to make you feel immediately welcome and loved with no doubts. This whole book felt like a warm hug full of support and appreciation. Seeing Bonnie love and treat herself with so much love inspired me to do the same with myself, especially because I also deal and have dealt with body image and self esteem issues. Even with the mentions of those types of things and those related to them was so incredibly respectful and loving. Alejandro, ugh, he was a dream. I adore the way he adores Bonnie and creates a safe and loving space for their relationship to healthily grow. Like I said, the relationships in this book were so beautiful that I can’t imagine anything else now. Alejandro and Bonnie’s love is now my standard, no questions asked. The way that Violet Bloom wrote this book was so respectful and heartwarming that I’d give her a 15 min standing ovation if book reviews were like the Venice Film Festival. I am truly astounded by how much this book has become near and dear to me as well as the amount of love there was. I honestly don’t know if anything I read soon will hold a candle to this because I loved it so much. I truly recommend and hope that, if you read, you enjoy it as much as I did.
Thank you so much Violet Bloom and Nisha’s Books and Coffee for the ARC.
Tropes: grumpy/sunshine, plus sized FMC, forced proximity, contemporary stand-alone, dual pov Represented: plus sized rep, Latino, mental health, eating disorder, body image issues, addiction
Over the Hood is a 5 star read for me. We have a Grumpy/Sunshine troupe, body positive plus sized fmc and a sexy brooding mmc who speaks dirty words in Spanish 🥵🌶 I think I connected with this book because I am also going through a mindset change and healing my relationship with food. I knew I would either love Bonnie or we wouldn't click and girl.... we clicked!
Bonnie is a plus sized dietitian and she specializes in intuitive eating and trying to help people move away from diet culture and face fat phobia. It was incredible to read about a fmc who I could see myself in. I connected so much with her inner monologue and I wish I was as self aware as she was. I think this book could be healing for some women who are going through similar struggles. I loved that she was strong, independent, knew her self worth and never settled for anything less than she knew she deserved 👏🏻
Alejandro aka Ale was 👨🍳💋🤌🏻 I was not prepared for the mouth on that man 🥵. Alejandro is a mechanic in Bonnie's Dad's shop. He works on classic cars. So. Hot. He is always covered in grease and wears his coveralls on his hips 😍 He is what dreams are made of! He is a man of few words. He enjoys the peace and quiet, so you can imagine how annoyed he is when sunshine Bonnie moves back home with her Dad after her fiance cheated on her. He is a mystery to Bonnie and it's her mission to find out what Ale is all about. I loved his storyline and especially his parents. His parents are from Cuba and moved to the states a few years before he was born. I loved reading about his culture, the food and the love between him and his parents. When he spoke Spanish to Bonnie it gave me all the feels!
I stand for a man who worships his woman! Ale never ever had 1 single negative thought about Bonnie's size. She was and is a sexy goddess and he never seen her as anything but. I loved the banter that they had. You could see Bonnie chipping away at Ale's broody exterior piece by piece. And when they finally gave in to their connection my God, it was hot! We're talking a one hand read iykwim 😜 And who knew I loved a man with a God complex??? I sure did though. I ate it up!
Another thing I loved about this book, is there was no breakup from miscommunication. Once they were in it, there was trust and understanding. All of the angst (it was a pretty light read) came from outside parties. The main one being Bonnie's sister, June. I hated her for 90% of the book. She was awful to Bonnie, but it was healing to see them work through things and come out better on the other side.
This was a really great read and I would 6/5 recommend this book. The spice was perfect. The side characters were great. I don't think there is a single thing I had an issue with or that I would want to change. Alejandro is definitely on my top 10 book boyfriends list. The things he could do with mouth, hands and body 🥵 It will be living rent free in here 🧠 for a long time 😍😜. After I finished, I immediately went to Amazon and ordered the paperback to put on my bookshelf!
Having never read anything by this author before, I went into this book completely blind, and i am so glad I did because i really enjoyed it.
I haven't read a book with a plus-size heroine in a while, so it was incredibly refreshing. Bonnie was amazing; I adored her self-assurance, beauty, and she had a clear sense of what she wanted.
After discovering her fiancé's infidelity, Bonnie returns home. After settling back in she comes across the quiet, broody, and sexy Ale, who also works for her father.
Reading about these two coming together and the emotional connection they have was everything. This wasn’t just a sexual connection (even though that was 🔥), but a deep friendship grew between them, that I found so beautiful. The push and pull between this couple was electrifying.
Thank you to nishasbooksandcoffeepr and the author for this ARC. I am leaving this review voluntarily.
I'm torn. When this book was good, it was good. But there were many parts where the writing was extremely repetitive and even though Bonnie was constantly talking about how "okay" she was being plus sized, it was done so much that it didn't seem like she was really okay being plus sized. Alejandro was done right and definitely sexy, loving Bonnie unconditionally. This one just didn't win for me.
This is the first time I have read anything from this author and let me tell you it was so good. I loved that the FMC was plus size I could really relate to her being plus size myself. I love that she knew her worth and wasn’t going to let anyone come in and take her confidence.
Then Ale the grumpy man that spoke a few works. But then by the end of it was a man of dirty talk. This book was very spicy and I would recommend it to all my friends.
Very cute and steamy read! I loved the plus sized heroine and grumpy cinnamon role being pitted against each other. I learned a lot from Bonnie and her convictions - I loved how strong she was, how she knew exactly what she wanted and wouldn't settle for anything less. Her and Alejandro together were perfection!
I've not read anything by this author before but I'll tell ya what, I really enjoyed it. Bonnie is absolutely everything. Talk about body positivity and inclusion. I love her. But Small town, Grumpy sunshine and Plus size FMC won it for me. And Ale - that grumpy man frustrated me at times. But due to previous situations you can see why! The heat he brought 🔥 The family dynamics and friend group around these two were so good. Apart from her. I really didn't like her at all. These characters are all so sweet and charming and most definitely worked their way into my heart
Alejandro is probably in my top 5 favorite dirty talkers of the 130 books I've read since July. I WISH I'd had Bonnie's confidence at that age, heck even now!!! I really enjoyed this book!!
I honestly loved Bonnie’s character I know a lot of people said that they didn’t like her character but I found her relatable. Alejandro’s character I honestly found him relatable to my fiancé. This was a great car romance story and I loved it and can’t wait to read more by her!
Potential Trigger Warnings: fat phobia, eating disorder, alcoholism, grief, cancer and death of a parent.
This one is expected to release this October 12th. Bonnie Cassidy, the female main character, runs her own online business as a dietitian. She has a fairly nice life with her fiancee Christopher. That is until she walks in on Christopher with another woman. In what we soon learn is pure Bonnie self-confidence and knowledge of her worth, she quickly leaves him. Bonnie returns home and decides to stay with her dad, who owns a mechanic shop, until the can decide her next move. She quickly encounters the standoffish overtly grumpy mechanic Alejandro, who has a host of things he is also working through. Alejandro cannot stand Bonnie feeling that she talks too much and is too loud. He sees her as a disruption to the peace he has found in his life and job. A problem that becomes more evident to him, when she begins to encroach on his personal space. Alejandro lives in the second apartment above the shop which shares a common area with Bonnie and her father. Bonnie's father has given all his employees one rule: HIS DAUGHTER IS OFF-LIMITS. However, soon Alejandro finds himself struggling to follow this rule. This book is a cute and quick read and once the spice arrives it is there to stay. I enjoyed the dual POV because it enabled you to see the development of this relationship from both sides, and I don't think you could truly appreciate it without that. The book has some pretty obvious plot points, which you can tell are coming based on the way things are written. Like say you didn't read the summary, it would take all of 5 seconds to figure out she is going to walk in on Christopher cheating. However, it is still a cute story. Bonnie is a character who you can't help but want to be like. She is confident, successful, knows her worth, knows what she wants and deserves. We should all be like Bonnie for real. I think my biggest issue with this book was that it brings in some very heavy topics for them to be minor plot issues that I don't necessarily think are handled as thoroughly as they could have been.
Grumpy/sunshine. Working class hero/plus size girl. He’s a Cuban mechanic. She’s a daddy’s girl who runs an online life coach business.
This very much reads like a first novel. The main character comes off as extremely preachy major Aries energy with her intuitive eating schtick. This had the potential to be a noble idea in theory. Then the hero also starts preaching it in his internal monologue almost verbatim. It was so out of character for him even though he loved her body sexually. The narrative mentions her FUPA, belly, and fat labia.
The first 40% is pretty boring until their first date. There’s almost zero tension besides him constantly raking his eyes up and down her body (maybe it’s a Cuban thing?). He’s monosyllabic and a huge grump bordering on asshole. Once they move to the bedroom of course he’s extremely verbose in the dirty talk department. Though I think he could’ve been a bit more creative with the Spanish dirty talk. It seemed like the author was writing this because she had a fantasy of being with a Spanish speaking man.
Of course they do it on the car. In the car. Against a trellis in public. There’s peach play in the epilogue. The smut starts at about 40% in and never really stops. The whole god complex thing 🤮. Alpha jealous possessive.
There are a few half hearted attempts at plot. She has to introduce him to all her friends. Her dad of course is mad one of the grease monkeys is dating his little girl but easily comes around. Her sister is a piece of work and miraculously flips from a bitter anorexic to getting along with her sister. The author definitely had an axe to grind against anyone who would ever count calories or try to lose any weight.
The characters were just so black and white: all bad or all good. Cartoon villain sister. No nuance. The writing over explains simple concepts. I don’t need to know how mundane details about everyday living like showering and eating. The same phrases repeated over and over again in the writing. This could’ve been better with some polish.

This book was more than I could have asked for... a fat FMC, a Cuban grump of a MMC, and some of the BEST spice scenes I've ever read!
As a fellow plus-size pretty, I absolutely LOVE Bonnie and she feels so relatable! Her confidence is something I strive for everyday when it comes to my body image. In the book, she's a dietitian who offers group coaching on ditching the diet culture. I would 1000% give her my money!
Alejandro (Ale😮💨) is a grumpy Cuban mechanic who will not succumb to Bonnie's sunshiney personality that everyone else gravitates towards. Until one day, he does! He's tall, tanned, and sexy as sin in his grease-stained t-shirt and coveralls. I love Ale's relationship with his parents and, later on, Bonnie. But honestly... he is just so ... I would like to order my own Ale, ASAP! Since he was raised speaking Spanish in his home with his family, he will speak Spanish occasionally throughout the book (glossary in back) and especially so during spicy scenes.
Speaking of spice... here are just a few of MANY lines that I have highlighted. This book had me like
“You taste so good, hermosa,” he whispered. “Addicting. I’ve never tasted anything as good as this pussy.”
“Eyes on me while I slide inside you,”
“Come for me, hermosa.”
“Got thirty minutes to worship you,” I whispered against her neck, cupping her heavy tits in my hand. “Not nearly long enough.”
BRB.
Anyways, I can't believe how much I loved this book. I'm buying a physical copy and it will become a comfort read for me, no doubt. Not only because the spice is amazing and on point for my own preferences, but because there are some genuinely GREAT points regarding body image that I need to tell myself.
OVER THE HOOD by VIOLET BLOOM . I was in a reading slump when I received this bokk and the fact that I had to give an honest review brought me out of it.
I am so grateful . Thank you VIOLET BLOOM and NISHA'S BOOKS AND COFFE for this opportunity, this ARC.
Some of the trigger warnings are listed as follows ●fat phobia ●eating disorder ●Alcoholism ●death of a parent.
I kind of relate to the fmc at a tiny base. She's a dietician (I'm studying to be a dietician). Now, as cliche as it may sound, the story line is that her Fiancee cheats in their relation (cheating is a no-no for me). But our Bon Bon (and yes I'm taking after Damon Salvator to call Bonnie, Bon Bon) made me so damn proud when left him (I wish I had done the same. *sigh*). She comes to live with her dad, who is the boss of a very GRUMPY -.... ✔ GRUMPY SUNSHINE TROPE INCOMING ✔ Alejandro, who dislikes Bonnie from the first, because....... ▪She is too loud ▪ Talks too much ▪ He has his own issues ▪ Shares a common area with Bonnie and her dad 👀👀 ▪ Forced proximity 😏😏😏😏😏😏
Comes in the OFF LIMITS RULE put in by dad dearest.
BUT RULES ARE MEANT TO BE BROKEN. RIGHT??????? OBVIOUSLY.
Dual POV is kind of my own kryptonite. So there you go.
Bonnie is :confident, :successful, : knows her worth :knows what she wants and deserves
THE SPICE 🌶🌶🌶🌶🔥🔥🔥🔥 *swoons* Alejandro is a big grumpy bear, I tell you. He cares for Bon Bon and the scenes with the spice made my heart go in a pitter patter and meowww somewhere towardsthe south.
So it's a REFRESHING READ for me even though the plot is obvious.
Rating 3.4☆
I just wish some things were dealt a bit carefully and that it had been a tad bit less obvious.
🖤 Grumpy x Sunshine 🖤 Forced Proximity 🖤 Plus sized FMC
This was a nice change of pace from all the dark romances I’ve been reading lately. Bonnie stole my heart as our beautiful, plus sized goddess of a heroine. Bonnie is beautiful and confident and everything I aspire to be, she’s a dietician working on helping people have healthy relationships with food and not to fall into the trap of toxic diet trends. After walking in on her fiancé doing the worst she moves back home and back into her dads above the family garage. With her comings and goings she meets Ale who works for her dad.
Ale is our Cuban GOD of a man, he’s brooding, barely says two words to anyone which means he’s completely desirable, to me at least 😂 Bonnie is desperate to get under his skin and break down his walls and he’s desperate to avoid her at all cost.
I loved watching these two navigate their way from past broken relationships to a unlikely friendship to falling in love. I am a sucker for endearments in foreign languages and Ale delivers this 100%
I am going to post a trigger warning ⚠️ this book contains fatphobia, eating disorders and talk about toxic diet fads. Our lovey heroin breaks it down everytime but just be aware going in 🖤
The spice between these two was extremely hot, Ale knows how to treat a woman that’s all I’m going to say. 🥵
When Bonnie Cassidy comes home one day to find her fiancé cheating on her, she immediately dumps him and seeks solace with her father, who owns a garage. She expected some time with her father and some quiet time to work on herself and her business. What she didn’t expect was Alejandro Castela, a grumpy mechanic who immediately catches her eye. Alejandro has his own reasons for hating the world, but even he is not immune to Bonnie’s light. As Bonnie and Alejandro grow closer, everything seems to fall into place - but now, they must figure out how to tell Bonnie’s father, whose only rule for his employees is that his daughter is off limits.
Holy crap, this book was freaking fantastic!!! Bonnie and Ale’s love story was both heartwarming and swoonworthy, and I loved every second of it. As a plus sized woman myself, it always makes me so happy when I see a character like Bonnie, who loves herself no matter what and always knows her own worth. Bonnie was sweet, smart, and funny, and I loved how she never let anyone put her down, not even those she cared about. And Ale! I loved how much he loved his family, and how hardworking and dedicated he was. I loved Ale because he loved everything about Bonnie, and he wasn’t one of the people who tore her down. Instead, he did his best to always lift her up. Their relationship is one of the sweetest things I’ve read about in a long time. I’ll definitely be going back to reread this!!!
Bonnie and Ale are just the sweetest little couple and I love and adore them together so so much. I really enjoyed how the book played out and in someways it was very different from other romance books, but that is something I’ve noticed with violets books, she always finds a way to make them unique and different. This book was so fun and interesting not only dealing in the normal romance aspects, but also body image and the culture surrounding. The representation was one thing that I really liked in this book and how they were presented was both very hard for me to read but also very beautiful described and approached.
The smut is amazing, as always with Violets books and the developments of the characters feelings toward each other was so cute. The sunshine vs grump was one of my favorite parts in the books and how they talked to each other was so endearing.
You should read this book if you like a strong independent FMC and a MMC who shoots right in on the book boyfriend list with high pointes. And a book that is inclusive and representative. I would definitely recommend this book!!
This was an absolutely adorable, sweet and heartwarming story that captured my heart right from the start and I never wanted it to end.
Bonnie was such a relatable young woman with a fantastic attitude about herself, her weight and just life in general. I love how much she loves herself and the fact that she doesn’t give into the hate or drama surrounding her. Ale is the perfect match for Bonnie. He may be grumpy and a bit angry but that just made me love him more. Bonnie and Ale’s back and forth banter was hilarious and filled with so much sexual tension that at times these two had my toes curling and I couldn’t wait until they finally gave into their desires. I knew it was going to be hot and it definitely was!
I really enjoyed this story. It kept me fully captivated, entertained and consuming it quickly to see if Bonnie would get her well deserved happy ever after. It continually pulled on my heartstrings and kept a smile on my face throughout. I can’t wait to read more by this amazing author.
I don't remember why I picked this one up, but I am thankful I did! Alejandro is one sexy Latino MMC who delivers everything in a quiet and brooding way. Meanwhile, Bonnie, the MFC, is as loud and cheerful as she can possibly be, which pisses Alejandro off!
I loved the dynamics of the relationship - we don't have a third act and everything runs smoothly. The only drama between these two is from the people they are surrounded by. Bonnie's dad is sweet, her sister a big biatch, and her ex - can't say much more than "jerk". Alejandro's mom and dad are amazing and supportive, it's his ex that broke his heart and made him grumpy. But with Bonnie's help, he starts to heal and opens his heart to new love. Let's not forget his kinky side - I assure you, I won't be forgetting about it anytime soon.
Aside from the positive, the negative is the Spanish the author used. I wish she would have had some help and gotten the mistakes correctly. Something to keep in mind for Spanish-speaking readers.
Triggers - fatphobia, alcoholism, cheating, cancer, and the death of a loving parent.
This book is for you if you love strong, confident heroines who know their worth and embrace their desires. Bonnie is young but fierce and when her life goes off track she doesn't let it hold her down.
Alejandro is that perfect quiet broody hero who you know has so much simmering just under the surface. I loved their chemistry and banter. As each chapter revealed more of his character and backstory I he became more and more likable and charming.
Although there are some very sweet moments, this book is also mega steamy and super size inclusive. Bonnie embraces her size and even her business model is about intuitive eating and health over the number on the scale. Alejandro also loves all of Bonnie's curves and the author normalizes the size inclusivity in all aspects of their relationship even their intimate scenes.
I would love for this to be a series, because I feel like there are more stories to tell in this small town auto shop!
was this book spicy as fuck? yes. i loved it yes, however, the constant mentioning about her being plus size was overwhelming. Don’t get me wrong! i TOTALLY appreciate when there’s a plus size FMC in any book… it just gets exhausting to read about the same thousand thoughts i personally have, run through the FMC head 24/7.
I love the message the author was conveying. you can be bigger & still be healthier. absolutely! i freaking love it. but when it was shoved down my throat every second it got a little much. it just fell a little flat for me.
yes yes, this happens irl i’m aware!! i was so connected with the story, until it was just non stop about her being bigger & healthier than her sister who has ED, but instead of empathizing with the sister she judges her for it. it just felt like her being fat was the whole plot of the book…
This book was fun and sexy. I liked it a lot. Bonnie felt very real to me as a person. The sex scenes felt very real too as a fat person and I liked that.
Alejandro was the book boyfriend we all want.
Okay, so yes, it’s a little preachy about diet culture, intuitive eating and fat phobia. Growing up as somebody in a larger body with a sister in a thinner body (who was relatively kind and didn’t ever put me down about my weight) I understand why Bonnie didn’t say anything to her sister about the problem she was facing. June is not her client. It’s hard to approach the subject with somebody who doesn’t think they have a problem and sees you as a problem.
In every other book the thin girl can girlboss about her meetings, projects, etc. so why can’t the fat girl do it about her chosen profession? Even if it’s a profession we don’t normally see larger people in?
So again. We’re not going to literary excellence, it’s just a hot story with a thicc female protagonist.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
This was a first for me from this author. So let’s un pack this book. So first of all let’s get into the fact that the sister June was a total ass to Bonnie. oh boy June was real piece of work. I mean i understand she had this fear because of the way their mother died but come on she was just nasty. I did not like the fact that the dad never put her in her place because it doesn’t matter how much he loves both daughters he should have put her in her place many many times. Bonnie I liked the fact that she was comfortable in her own skin but there was just something missing that didn’t fully help me connect with her. Then there was Alexandro I loved him. He was sexy and broody and I loved that he knew and loved cars. I enjoyed this story but I felt there was a bit missing but I would definitely recommend.
