Fixed Moon
After breaking her engagement and travelling 800 miles to start her life over, literature student Zoie is ready to live her life within the books she reads and the worlds she creates on the page. She will live her life solo - only her stuffed animal Judy by her side.
Werewolf and literature professor Hugh has long been wary of letting people into his life, even for someone who's almost 200. His life in Birmingham, Alabama, and his only two friends in the world are enough to keep him content. Not happy, but as near as he figures is possible.
Neither is ready for the literal sparks that fly when they meet. But Hugh knows those sparks mean his heart belongs to Zoie, whether she wants it or not. Desperate to prove he's worthy of her, Hugh takes Zoie to places mortals are forbidden, drawing dangerous attention to them both.
Now, together with their closest friends, Hugh and Zoie fight against ancient foes and even more ancient laws for their lives and their love.

Fixed Moon by Katie Groom is an action-packed supernatural romance novel that introduces readers to a world filled with werewolves, mermaids, witches, vampires, and more.
The story follows Zoie, a college student who is starting over in a new city, and Hugh, a werewolf and literature professor who is cautious about letting people into his life.
The author does a great job of building a complex supernatural world with its own set of rules and laws. However, the characters lacked depth and compassion, leaving room for improvement in the next book.
Overall, this is a fast-paced and engaging novel that will appeal to young adult readers who enjoy paranormal romance.

FIXED MOON is the first book in a new series. Zoie is unlucky in love and has vowed not to fall in love again. Hugh is a nearly two-hundred-year-old werewolf who can't believe he has found his mate. But life is complicated...
I wanted to like this book. It had everything there so that I should have liked this book!!! Instead... I didn't.
Zoie has whiplash emotions - literally going from "I don't want to see you," to "I'll see you for dinner tonight" in one conversation. Hugh is probably the best character, but then he acts completely OUT of character when he does something to scare his mate. He also constantly lies and hides the truth. The other characters aren't much better. Cade goes from being a supportive best friend who admits they are jealous, to an uncaring jerk in the blink of an eye. And don't get me started on Stevie. That whole part just didn't sit right. Alvin, Jack, Rheon, Miles - all trying so hard to be the big bad and none of it quite working.
The premise of this book is a good one and, with a bit of help, it could be a great book/series with a fantastic, gripping overall story arc. For me, it just didn't work out, but I know others will love it.

Fixed Moon: Grad student Zoie meets a Hugh, a hot Lit professor, and sparks literally fly. Turns out this professor is a almost 200 year old shapeshifter of the wolf variety. Zoie discovers that the world of the supernatural is real, traveling to new places with her mate Hugh and his friends, fellow shifter Cayden and their partner, mermaid Stevie. Soon, trouble finds them and the four of them are in a life or death situation.
I didn’t really know what to expect from Fixed Moon, but I saw “werewolf professor” and knew I had to read it. I devoured Fixed Moon. Hugh is a dreamboat. Zoie is a dreamboat. This book is hard to define genre wise, which made the ending particularly shocking. I had so much fun reading this book and when I finished, mouth hanging open, I had to search and see if this was the first book in a series. Luckily it is!
The world building is top notch. Fixed Moon is familiar, yet like nothing I’ve read before. My advice: don’t try to compare it to anything else while reading it.
Now, I am a huge Twilight fan. And I think Groom was so smart by embracing the inevitable Twilight comparisons. There are werewolves (I’m using the shorthand here)! Anyone who has read Twilight, or seen the movies, will think of Twilight when reading a new paranormal romance(?) with werewolves or vampires. So Zoie asking “is this like in Twilight?” was so funny and so clever. We are all thinking it! I just love that Groom doesn’t act like the reader won’t think about Twilight or that it doesn’t exist.

I really liked this. I’m always interested in stories that contain supernatural characters, so I was excited to get the opportunity for a free ARC of this. The author takes a fairly unique approach towards the concept of werewolves, vampires, and the like, and it was refreshing to not read the same old (read: tired and overused) rules and restrictions governing these beings.
I found myself really liking Hugh, as his general personality is that of someone with whom I could see myself being friendly in real life. In fact, I lived most things about Hugh except for the hair-trigger temper that he demonstrates towards Zoie. I’m used to general werewolf lore saying that werewolves are dangerous, they can’t control their tempers, you have to be careful around them, you don’t want to be anywhere near them when they change into wolf form, etc. So maybe those instances of Hugh flipping out and hurting Zoie are manifestations of the general werewolf temperament . They just felt out of place at times, at least to me. Zoie …well what can I say about her… I wanted to like her, and I did, it not consistently. Much like Hugh’s bouts of temper, I felt like Zoie’s reactions were sometimes a bit overly dramatic. Zoie’s mother is horrible and got on my nerves. It made me angry that Zoie was such a doormat when dealing with her mother. I liked Stevie’s mother, as well as Stevie herself, until the reveal that she was the one who betrayed Zoie and Hugh. This just felt odd to me, but to each their own. Overall I enjoyed this, and encourage those who enjoy supernatural characters to give it a read.

I really liked the premise of fixed moon and when I began reading it drew me in straight away. I was intrigued by Katie Grooms take on the supernatural and wanted to learn more about all the different mystical individuals, their magic and how they lived and fit into the world.
Unfortunately, I found the writing to be a little clunky and there were also quite a few grammatical errors. I felt the ending was rushed, maybe even the entire book, it could have used more world building and character development.
My other grumble is that the characters relationships felt rushed and that all of a sudden it seemed like they'd all known each other for a long time when in reality Hugh and Zoie has been on two dates and she'd only just met Stevie and Cayden, it was as though time had been skipped all over the place and it was a bit jarring.
Overall, I enjoyed the story that Katie Groom has started to tell, and I am looking forward to reading the next instalment, but for me it needs a little work.

This delivers a satisfying blend of cozy atmosphere and supernatural stakes, perfect for readers who enjoy their romance with a side of literary flair and werewolf lore. The novel follows Zoie, a literature student starting over after a broken engagement, and Hugh, a nearly 200-year-old werewolf and literature professor who has resigned himself to a life of quiet solitude. Their meeting described with “literal sparks” sets off a classic fated-mate narrative that is both tender and tense.
The book’s greatest strength is its relatable, grounded characterizations within a fantastical setup. Zoie’s desire to lose herself in books and Hugh’s centuries of cautious loneliness are immediately sympathetic, making their reluctant attraction feel earned. The academic setting and their shared love of literature provide a charming, intelligent foundation for their relationship. The central conflict escalates nicely from this personal connection, as Hugh’s desperate attempts to prove his worth by breaking supernatural laws put them both in the crosshairs of “ancient foes and even more ancient laws.”

Plot: mating bond between a supernatural creature and one that doesn't know it yet. A forever kind of love that gets severed abruptly.
Characters: all the characters, from Zoie and Hugh to Stevie and the villain Miles feel a little bit ... flat. You understand most of their motivations (except that last, STEVIE), and yet you constantly kind of want ... more.
Setting: I'm intrigued enough by the different species and fantastical options, and I feel subsequent books should expand on that.
Magic: a little haphazard, because it's never exactly explained how it's passed down (ie, is Miles a werewolf or a warlock?)
Overall, this is an okay read, but it would need tighter editing and clearer time breaks, as well as room to breathe because sometimes it feels like chapters worth of stuff just happens on one page within 10 sentences. It was an okay story that has a lot of potential to grow better, but sadly none of the characters grabbed me enough to really make me want to read more.

I thoroughly enjoyed the book. It was a slow start but the story arc is different and I was feeling the characters development. This author has a very twisty mind. I like that in an author BTW.
However just as I settled in for the ride? Things escalated and the book ENDED. On a CliffHanger! No no no.
I am now fully invested in this new paranormal world n it's people and I am feeling very disgruntled about how long I may have to wait for answers? If you are an avid reader and love mouthy irreverent characters you will Love this book.
There were a few sentence grammatical errors but they never irked me to the point I stopped reading. Although I did highlight every one. WHO Proofs for writers these days?.
Worth the read if you can stand Cliffhanger endings. Books with those should come with a warning label

(3.5) First time author for me and I am betwixt and between. I was intrigued and then it slowed down, then it would catch my interest again. It seemed very heavy at times, but that could be the world building be laid for future books. It has a wonderful mix of paranormal characters with new takes here and there. I was surprised with the twist at the end, and disappointed. A few pages later and I was like wait, what... that's it? It's not really a cliff hanger per se (imho) but it was an abrupt ending. I think some people will be absolutely over the moon (hehe) with this book. Thank you for the arc, I freely volunteer my thoughts and opinions. #booksirens #fixedmoon #katiegroom #cinnabarmothpublishing

This is a must read for the fantasy/romance/young adult lovers! I instantly fell in love with each of the characters. You immediately are drawn into them, like they’re your friends or you’ve know them a long time! Katie’s style of writing really draws you in and keeps you wanting more throughout. Each character is unique and developed well. This book takes you through every emotion, like you are living it as well! I also really enjoyed the little nods to pop culture. I couldn’t put it down! I look forward to more books from her and hopefully with this series! I definitely recommend this book, you won’t be sorry!

Supernatural characters with a true Blood type love story. You know, with werewolves, mermaids and a witch.
Great tale, but some parts were a little boring and too rom com, without the com.
But, the was enough story to just keep me engaged enough to get to the end.
And, subsequent tales will unfold, but I'm happy to end it here.
Thanks to booksirens for this ARC.

This is my second time reading this book. I had to come back and revisit these characters. If there’s one thing Katie Groom can do it’s flesh out a character so you feel like you know the person. Having already met Hugh in his introductory short story in an anthology, I really enjoy seeing him again. He’s a likable guy.
But Zoie is why I wanted to read this book again. She’s a truly lovable person. Sweet, funny, self-effacing, Zoie. You can picture her when you read each part she’s in. Especially through Hugh’s eyes (the book switches back and forth between the two characters’ POV.
I do have to say I just really never trusted Stevie; Groom makes sure there’s just something off about her throughout the book. Her partner is friendly and you sense he’s trustworthy, but not Stevie.
The mother-daughter dynamic between Zoie and her mother is all too real, and I’m glad, even for this sweet fictional woman, that her mother’s boyfriend is a good guy.
I think this cozy werewolf fantasy is well worth the five stars I gave it the first time through. I will say the author was done a grave disservice by the publisher, who gave the book a cover which gives sci-fi vibes that have nothing to do with the story, and clearly spent no time or money on editing. The story is good enough I can easily overlook that and enjoy the story. I’ll hesitate before reading other books published by this particular publisher, however.

Fixed Moon took me by surprise on more than one occasion. It is filled with lots and lots of twists and turns that kept me glued to the pages. The suspense was so intense it kept me hanging on page after page. I couldn’t wait to see what lay around the next corner. I must say that Fixed Moon is unlike anything I have before. I loved the new twists or take on the vampires.
After breaking off her engagement Zoie, a literature student travels 800 miles to attend the University of Alabama at Birmingham in Birmingham, Alabama. All Zoie wants now after breaking her engagement is to be left alone where she can throw herself into her writing and studies.
At the university, Zoie meets Werewolf and literature professor Hugh. Zoie and Hugh meet each other in the hall one day while Hugh is reading a book and not paying attention to where he is going collides with Zoie.
Hugh has some problems of his own not to mention he has a few secrets that he is keeping from the world. Sparks start to fly between Zoie and Hugh from the first moment they lay eyes on each other.
Once I picked up Fixed Moon I was hooked and I couldn’t turn the pages fast enough to see how it was all going to come out in the end. And speaking of the end, that was one ending I never saw coming. It took me by surprise, I was so flabbergasted. I mean I didn’t know which end was up for a while there. I couldn’t believe what I had just read. I was like no way that didn’t just happen but needless to say it did. I must say that it was heart-wrenching, to say the least.
I enjoyed reading Fixed Moon so much that I would highly recommend it to anyone looking for their next great read! One-click your copy of Fixed Moon today!

I actually finished this book several days ago and I kept writing and then reading my review. I am just not sure how to accurately depict how much I loved this without giving away any spoilers. I absolutely adored Zoie and Hugh. I love that Zoie is not the typical lead female character. She is shy and unsure of herself. Hugh is everything you could want in a protagonist. Their story together is sweet and interesting. But the twists that come out at the end?! Shattered. Heart broken. Gut wrenching. I literally had to walk away from the book for a few hours because I could NOT believe what I was reading. It was an amazing twist that I did not see coming and I'm usually pretty good at guessing what is going to happen in a story. The world building was really amazing. I think the centralized "safe zone" for magical creatures was really cool and I have never read anything like that before. The reason I gave 4 stars is because Cayden's pro-nouns got mixed up a few times. I think LGBTQ+ representation is so important but sometimes Cayden's pro-nouns changed from they/them to he/him. Additionally, the main fight scene between the protagonist and antagonist was a bit lacking for me. I wish it would have been drawn out more or showcased more of Hugh's ability. But overall, it was a great book, the story grabbed me from the get go and kept me enthralled through the end. I would highly recommend this book to anyone who likes urban fantasy, witches, werewolves or just a really great story!

It was an interesting ride.
I definitely felt that this book is a little bit too rom-com, some plot twists were expected, but i was so into this book!
As usual we have a FMC who is a normal girl without any paranormal powers, she met a shifter MMC. And their love story began. Love path was so cheesy and angsty, but i like this kind of stuff, so...10/10.
In this book we see a world building, stories about different paranormal creatures (shifters, vampires, mermaids and others) and how they interact, what problem this world has and what political games are played in the dark.
THE ENDING! Are you kidding me? i was so not ok, 'cause:
firstly, i thought that this book is a standalone (based on the reviews it's not), so this sad ending was heartbreaking;
secondly, plot twist with betrayal was so painful, i literally have no worlds how to describe it.
Lucky for me and us, there should be continuation and i hope for the best. Definitely will wait for next installment in this series.
