A Bro Code Standalone

The Setup (The Bro Code Standalone Series)

Rate this book
The first day she was sitting by herself — I felt sorry for her. After all, it couldn't be easy wrangling all the testosterone at Wingman Inc as one of the only female office managers.

The second day she literally counted her carrots during break — she had seven by the way, right along with seven sips of her drink in between taking seven tiny little bites of the first carrot.

Now I'm not one to brag, or maybe I am, but math and science fascinate me, so do problems. And this woman screamed puzzle from the way she ducked her head every time anyone looked at her, to the way she counted food and tapped the table when she didn't think anyone was watching.

I'd like to think I took pity on her that day when, in fact, she was the one that took pity on me and asked if I needed a friend. She assumed I had a learning disability since I'd been staring so damn hard.

Things would have ended there, except, my bosses need someone to test the new Wingman App and since I was the only single guy on the floor — I was nominated, right along with the only single woman, the same one who thinks I need to use my fingers to count.

Apparently rumors of my sexcapades throughout college reached even her ears, because she wants nothing to do with me, which makes beta testing a bitch. I have thirty days to win her over and prove myself to my bosses.

One thing's for certain, I'm going to have to buy a hell of a lot of carrots.

Co-worker romance!

The following ratings are out of 5:
Romance: 🖤💙❤️💚
Heat/Steam: 🔥🔥🔥
Story/Plot: 📕📗📘
World building: 🌏🌍🌎
Character development: 🙂🥰😎
Narrator(s): 🎙🎙🎙🎙
Narration type: Dual Narration

The heroine: Jillian Hillstone (a.k.a. Jillie) - she is a curvy girl who is a bit self conscious of her curves. She has had a crush on Finn since college, though he never knew she existed. When he comes to work at Wingman, Inc. where she works with a bunch of college friends, she knows she doesn’t have a chance with the 6’3” muscular and handsome man.

The Hero: Finn Titus - he grew up in a wealthy family, though he had problems at home with his parents. His aunt was in charge of the family business and family fortune and his parents always needed money. Since Finn and his sister got their trust funds, their parents have been threatening everything under the sun to get Finn and his sister to give them money. Finn decided not to go into the family business after college, instead he went in with his college friends on an elite matchmaking app. He was now the only single vice president of Wingman Inc.

The Story: Since Jillie and Finn are the only single people at Wingman, they are asked to beta test the app to make sure there are no defects in the software that pair people up with their perfect match. Not only do they have to put in their profiles and what they want in a perfect mate, they end up having to double date with the people they are matched with.

Jillian immediately knows that Finn will end up with a model perfect skinny girl, who looks nothing like her. Though she doesn’t realize how Finn is totally attracted to her and her curves. I generally don’t like curvy girl romance, because the heroine always has low self esteem, and a lot of the stories dwell far too much on her body. This one wasn’t so bad though. It was weird in that she was preoccupied with the fact that she wasn’t a perfect 10, but other times she seemed very self assured in her body image.

The sexual tension between the two main characters was great. I didn’t like the fact that Finn was a virgin. Though it was pretty funny that Jillie thought he was a man-whore because he looks so hot, and she has had a crush on him for so long. I also quite liked the back-and-forth chatter between them. There were also some pretty funny scenes, like when she needed help getting out of her spanks. Though it was a bit cringeworthy.

This audiobook was told in dual points of view via dual narration and was narrated by Aaron Shedlock and Jillian Macie. I like both of these narrators quite a bit. Both of them sound very natural and not at all like they are reading. Aaron has a quiet but sexy voice that I really like, and Jillian sounded great as Jillie.

Oh what a way to end the series! Finn Titus is my absolute favorite Pleasure Pony and boy does he have som BIG secrets.

Now that all the guys are working downtown at Wingmen, Inc. Finn is the last to join the group. Being the only single guy of the group he is paired up with their office manager who also happens to be single to test the newest app for the matchmaking company. But the thing is Jill knows Finn whether he realizes it or not. She had a major crush on Mr. Titus and now she has to go on double dates with the man for the next 30 days! Sparks fly and with Grandma Nadine thrown into the mix, hilarity ensues.

I loved Finn and Jillian! I nominate Wingmen being made into a TV series. Like a new reboot of Moonlighting!! I don't want to see the guys go.

I’m kinda sad. I don’t want it to be the end of the pleasure ponies 😭 but this book, this book was everything I wanted and more!

The Set up, was hilariously funny, the banter was on point and the side characters that we’ve come to love over the whole series, helped make the whole thing another hit from Rachel Van Dyken!

If you are looking for a light, LOL romance series to read, then this is it!

This. This was the ending that I had hoped for. And while I wish the story had been longer so it didn't have that rushed feeling that novellas often do (especially where the romance aspect is concerned), there was enough tension in this one to make it not seem like "insta-love".

I knew from the way Finn acted in the last book that he was going to be getting his comeuppance in this one, and boy did he. Not only is Jillian just the kind of feisty woman that he needs, but she is also probably the first woman in history to ever tell him no. It was fascinating watching these two characters interact with each other (even if there were times when I had trouble following their logic). The addition of the others from this series (and featuring the OG Wingmen Ian and Lex) were full of laugh out loud moments. The kind that speaks to true friendship and the desire to see your friends as happy as you are.

ALSO - GRANDMA NADINE. Need I say more? You know where she is involved hilarity is going to ensure - and I was not disappointed.

My one gripe with this story is the way it ended. I have questions that I need answers to! I feel like an epilogue would have finished this series nicely, but the way the author did choose to end this one was cute all the same. I would read more from this author!

DISCLAIMER: I received a complimentary copy of this novel in exchange for my honest review. This has not affected my review in any way. All thoughts and opinions expressed in this review are 100% my own.

I love the Bro Code series and I honestly think The Setup is my favorite out of all of the books! This story was fun, flirty, sexy and a fast-paced quick read that I enjoyed. The story is told in dual first-person perspectives which I really enjoy!

Finn and Jillian are working on the new Couple Creator App which will require them to go on dates with other people but go together. Little did they both know that this would set them up for an epic workplace romance! I enjoyed seeing all the “Pleasure Ponies” again throughout the story as it made for some great laughs!

The Setup and the entire Bro Code series was truly enjoyable! I highly recommend it to anyone looking for a funny, flirty and sexy read!

Super fun ending to this series! While each book can be a standalone, it’s WAY better to read them all. The friendship and camaraderie was super fun to experience.

Finn and Jillian were so sweet to watch. Refreshing actually. They tried to remain friends but that tricky heart of theirs wouldn’t have any of it.

The Setup was a quick and fast read with the right amount of laughter and love. And that last line, the one Finn whispers to her, it made my heart skip a beat.

I received an arc and this is my honest review.

REVIEW: THE SETUP is the fourth (and final) instalment in Rachel Van Dyken’s contemporary, adult THE BRO CODE erotic, romance series focusing on four friends known as the Pleasure Ponies who work for Wingman Inc: Knox, Finn, Leo, and Slater. This is twenty-two year old, Finn Titus, and Wingman Inc PA Jillian’s story line. THE SETUP can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty. Any important information from the previous story lines is revealed where necessary.

Told from dual first person perspectives (Finn and Jillian ) THE SETUP follows the building relationship between twenty-two year old, Finn Titus, and Wingman Inc PA Jillian. Finn Titus is the last single member of the ‘Pleasure Ponies’, and his friends are desperate to set him up. With the upcoming launch of their new Couple Creator App, Ian and Lex, along with Slater, Leo and Knox tag Finn and his PA Jillian, to test out the online features. Having entered their ‘likes and dislikes’ into the app, Jillian and Finn will be set up on several dates, with other people, dates that will also include one another. What ensues is the building relationship and romance between Jillian and Finn, and the potential fall-out as Jillian struggles with a workplace romance, and Finn battles his need to prove he is worthy of love.

Finn Titus is a multi-millionaire and believes women only want him for his money. Meeting and falling for Jillian gave Finn a chance at his own happily ever after but Jillian constantly battled between head and heart believing herself unworthy of Finn’s affections, and the fear of losing her job.

The relationship between Finn and Jillian is one of immediate attraction but Finn’s has a secret that he has kept close to his heart for all of his adult life. Jillian has fallen for Finn Titus but worries in the face of the others discovering their office romance. The $ex scenes are intimate, erotic and intense, without the use of over the top, sexually graphic, language and text.

All of the ‘Pleasure Ponies’ play secondary and supporting characters. Their one on one, and group texting is worthy of a few laughs, and sighs, knowing what they know about our story line hero.

THE SETUP is a wonderful story; a fast paced, entertaining and welcome addition to Rachel’s BRO CODE series of stand alones. The premise is engaging; the romance is seductive; the characters are flirty and fun.

I would give this book more stars for the writing because the premise of the story was VERY GOOD but I honestly felt like the book needed a little more. I left with so many questions and NO EPILOGUE!!!! **GASP** believe me I kept tapping my kindle hoping there would be a hidden epilogue somewhere, but NOPE.

For the actual story itself, I LOVED it. I loved Finn and Jillian and their chemistry and how their friends worked behind their backs to get them together. Throw Aunt Nadine's antics and a Chihuahua in the mix and it made the story great. But like I mentioned above there could have been a bit more for me with this one.

Overall Grade: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

And she’s brought it. Rachel Van Dyken’s The Setup, the last of the stories for the Pleasure Ponies, is coming. We’ve read Knox’s, Leo’s, and Slater’s stories, all of them offering some humor, some $exy, and a lesson meant to highlight some of the challenges we face daily. Whether it’s a lesson about forgiveness, loving yourself, or creating your family with the people who love you most, the guys of Wingmen Inc. have entertained, titillated, and admonished us along the way.

Van Dyken’s The Setup is the story for the last of the Pleasure Ponies, Finn. We know that he’s wealthy with a healthy trust fund, a crazy aunt, a sister who he adores and seeks to protect, and a tortured relationship with his parents who see him as only a bank. What The Setup shows us is another secret about Finn, one that may surprise the most ardent fan of Van Dyken’s Bro Code series. In this story, Finn finds himself attracted to Jillian, the office manager for Wingmen Inc. As Wingmen Inc. prepares to release a new app, Jillian and Finn, the only single people in management, are tasked with testing it for a last-minute glitch. Forced to act as each other’s “wingmen” with dates acquired through the app, Jillian and Finn recognize quickly that they are attracted to each other. However, given that they work for the same company and Jillian’s financial situation is precarious, Jillian tries to ignore her feelings for Finn. Even more, she feels unworthy of him because he’s wealthy and incredibly attractive. Will Jillian spurn Finn and his advances, or will these two accept their growing attraction and feelings for each other and find their HEA?

What I love most about The Setup and this series, in general, is its love for Van Dyken’s fans. She wrote these books because her fans wanted the stories of the other male characters from Co-Ed, Knox’s story. I love that Van Dyken listened and offered up Seducing Mrs. Robinson, Avoiding Temptation, and The Setup. In doing so, she created a series that tickles your funny bone, steams up your metaphorical glasses, and makes you think over everyday challenges.

In this book, Finn and Jillian are funny. From the outset, each teases the other in ways that ensure page-after-page chemistry. It’s clear that these two need to end up together because it seems easy. As Finn and Jillian double date while on blind dates, it’s clear that they are meant for each other. They cajole, challenge, and fight with each other as a means to foreplay, and it makes for a fun read.

Coupled with the humor of this book is a real lesson about accepting one’s body. Jillian is every woman. We get a sense of her when she says, “…plain old Jillian,” or “[b]ut not for me. I looked like a bowling ball that forgot her pants.” Through Jillian, we realize she’s not a size 0 or 4 for that matter and she probably looks like your average girl next door. She struggles to see herself with Finn who is a walking Adonis. Yet, once we see Jillian through Finn’s eyes, we know that he finds himself instantly attracted to her “curves” and “@ss.” This is a man who knows what he likes even when Jillian doesn’t love herself enough to accept it. In fact, Finn challenges Jillian’s thinking when he says, “That’s the problem, Jillian. You say you see me. But you really don’t. And in that case, you’re right, we would never work. Because I see you. But you don’t see me.” This is the challenge of Van Dyken’s story: learning to accept yourself and expecting that others will love and accept you too. I love when romance writers like Van Dyken couple a “better than average” person with someone perceived to be a Venus or Adonis. It’s a reminder that there are no “types” for someone, and it admonishes us to love for inner beauty over falling for one’s outer beauty.

Like Leo and Slater, I fell in love with Finn. Honestly, to me, he feels like the most insecure Pony. There is something special about his challenge in The Setup that intrigues you and pushes you to root for a happy ending for him. Add in his Aunt Nadine, the antics of the Wingmen Inc., and one cute chihuahua, and you can’t help but fall in love with his and Jillian’s story.

Once again, Rachel Van Dyken has pleased us with the stories of her Pleasure Ponies through The Setup. I think she’s easily fulfilled her duty to her fans (although I’d love a bonus scene where all of the PP find themselves in a quadruple wedding a la Jane Austen). Finn and Jillian’s story, like the ones that came before it, once again titillates and makes you laugh out loud. These guys who seem so secure and strong show us that no one is ever really set. There is always a challenge to overcome or a happy ending to be found. The Setup is just another Van Dyken story that leaves you satisfied and with a huge smile on your face.

The Setup is the conclusion to Rachel Van Dyken’s Bro Code series, which is a spinoff of her Wingmen, Inc. series. These are all standalone titles but if you love romantic comedy books with fun and funny characters, witty and sarcastic banter, and happily ever afters, I highly recommend starting with The Matchmaker’s Playbook and reading all of the books in the series and spinoff which are all available in Kindle Unlimited.

The Setup is Finn and Jillian’s story. Both now graduated from UW, Finn and Jillian find themselves as the two lone single people working at the top of Wingmen, Inc. So who better to test out the new matchmaking app than these two? Thirty days never seemed so long….

I loved these two characters! Finn is hot, but he’s a caretaker at heart. He’s practically raised and protected his younger sister which didn’t offer him many opportunities for a social life for himself. From the outside, it looked very different, thanks to his role as one of the Pleasure Ponies, though. But like most of us, the persona we project to the world may not quite be the true picture of who and what we really are. Suffice it to say, Finn’s got secrets that not even his best friends know. And Jillian is simply fabulous. She’s a young lady who may not be comfortable with her body in the beginning, but I loved watching how she began to realize that just because she isn’t a size 0, she’s definitely got it going on. She’s also not afraid to put Finn in his place. But she’s the only one that sees the real man behind the persona.

NICUnurse’s Rating: Word of warning: Do NOT try to read this book at night while your significant other is trying to sleep! There are so many laugh out loud moments! This book is like the perfect Christmas present for fans of the Bro Code series and really, Wingmen, Inc.too. It’s like Rachel wrapped up these guys in this pretty little package just for us. Fun times, fun dialogue, and funny as all get out dating scenes make The Setup a great read to round out the decade!

I give The Setup by Rachel Van Dyken 4.5 out of 5 stars!

Finn Titus is a man on a mission, one that could land in him in deep with his bosses... but when you find the girl that makes your heart skip a beat for the first time ever you have to go after her, right? But this girl comes with a few complications, namely the most important one is that she is forbidden... you don't ever date a co-worker, especially if you want to keep your job!

The Setup is a brilliantly penned office romance tale that will have you grinning and swooning the whole way through! I loved this pairing so much, their was a constant spark buzzing between them that kept things intense and steamy, and their witty banter was quite entertaining too. Jillian really kept Finn on his toes! These two were thoroughly entertaining, then you add Aunt Nadine to the mix, and it was downright hilarity... that woman is a hoot! I have to say this has got to be my favorite installment in the series, the charismatic cast in this one really stole the show for me, as well the heart-squeezing they had to tell. Highly recommend you get your hands on this one, what you find between the pages is certain to keep you captivated from beginning to end!

I requested an advanced copy of this title from the publisher, and I am voluntarily leaving my honest and unbiased opinion.

Finn and Jillian are tasked to work together in order to test the new matchmaking app. So, they have to go to double dates with other people. Things are heating up when they are enjoying more the company of each other than their date's.

Finn was a total surprise, he is so very thoughtful and kind. Jillian is the girl you want as a friend, she has great sense of humor.

As for their friends, they are the perfect addition to the story, they are always there for them to help them. I enjoyed so much this book.

The final installment of this series had romance, humor and deeper secrets. Rachel van Dyke delivered for the holidays the best gift for her readers as she wrote about the other heroes and friends of Knox. I also enjoyed Jillian's and Finn's story.

Their chemistry was phenomenal and the hardships they had to get through were many both emotional and practical.

Finn!!! These men-children of the bro codes keep me laughing!!!! Finn wants a chance and he's not used to being told no. Will he be able to change her mind before he loses his mind?

Totally laugh out loud moments with cameos throughout to remind you while you like these books so much! Would have liked it to be longer and left a few unanswered questions for me but LOVED it all the same!!!

Can't wait to see what's next from this author!

Another take of the Pleasure Ponies. Fin is the final story and just like the others it was fun with a little something to learn. To Jillian, Finn was the perfect specimen. He wouldn’t look at someone like her. She finds out he is more than just his looks. They are perfect for each other and with the help of the other wingmen and Aunt Nadine they realize it too. A couple of sexy times and the usual wingman craziness make this a fun read.

The Setup by Rachel Van Dyken is book four in the A Bro Code Standalone Series. This is the story of Finn and Jillian. I have read the previous books which added to my enjoyment of this one but I did think you could make this a standalone book if you wish to do so.
This was a fun to funny read about people with their corks in life who are different but yet not. Finn and Jillian are set to test the new dating app for the company they are at which brings them working together more. Both are attracted to each other but Jillian is up to resisting the pull but that can't last long.
Enjoyed their story

The Setup is a mixture of funny dialogues, at times a protective male, heartfelt moments and all around a perfect way to end a series. The witty banner between all the characters made it all the better!

Have I told you how much I love RVD?!? She is a class act, which a dark and dirty side that makes you fall in love with each book she writes!! This book does not disappoint!! She has created a world of humor and steaminess that will make you laugh and need a cold shower all at the same time. Her words jump off the page and Imprint themselves forever in your heart!!

Wingman. Omg. The last book. The last target. I can’t believe they have all found women that will put up with them. This one is no dispointment!! The way she has weaves all these characters together to create this humorous, steamy story is mind boggling and totally enthralling.

Fun and Jillian have a background. They have no clue what is about to hit them. Thrown together for a project, the sparks fly and chemistry is insane. Finn has not always been open with everything in his life. Jillian breaks through to Finn, but obstacles are in the way. True love finds its way, but it’s a bumpy path that makes them stronger. A great read by Rachel Van Dyken that will creat all the emotions and leave your heart feeling happy!!

The Setup, an all-new contemporary romance by #1 New York Times bestselling author Rachel Van Dyken, is LIVE!

This book grabbed me from page one, and I was sucked in, could barely put it down, even to go to bed! I loved Finn, and his aunt was hilarious! But not just that, it was all the characters. They all were such a fun group, snarky and seemed like in a good mood for the most part. While I thought that Finn's friends and co-workers, the former "Pleasure Ponies" were all about getting him set up with Jillian to start with, it seemed maybe I was a bit off when they had the two of them sign up to test out the app separately. However in the end, it all came together and we found out just what their friends had planned, and how it actually did prove that their app worked. All of the double dates they went on ended spectacularly and again hilariously. The secret about Finn was a really big shock, but made when he and Jillian finally did take it all the way so much more satisfying. It was a such an easy read, flowed seamlessly without a lot of extra drama that usually will irritate me in stories. I adored this book so much that I have got to go back and read the rest of the stories in the series. And it reminded me how much I love this author and that I always wait too long before reading more of her books!
