Earth was never going back to normal. All that was left in the post-apocalyptic destruction were humans trying to find enough food to survive … and running from the aliens who had come to scavenge what was left.
Raine had never been a particularly brave woman. She preferred staying at home, sipping on a latte while reading a good romance book, rather than making an effort to become hurt by a real relationship.
She only managed to survive the nuclear war by being at the right place at the right time. Now, as if having to contend with lack of food and dodging different species of aliens wanting to make her their next meals wasn’t bad enough, the other survivors in her group blame her for being a jinx for every catastrophe that has happened to them.
How was she supposed to know the feral man who she had saved was an alien Viking from Mars? How could it be her fault that, when she snuck out to check on him, two other women from her group followed and got themselves kidnapped? And, how could she be blamed for finding herself married to an alien by the simple act of saving his life?
She wasn’t a jinx; she was simply at the wrong place at the wrong time.
Still, it hurt that her new husband was beginning to think the same way as the group of survivors and wanted to give her back to the humans.
While she wasn’t crazy about the Martian side of Skars, the Viking part of her husband was hot and, like any heroine from the stories she had read, she was determined to prove her worth to him. Well, if she wasn’t barbecued first.
Jamie Begley is not your average Kentucky girl, and while she does like to cook her southern meals, this down-home momma prefers living in her biker and alien worlds!

This was a surprise, a bit more to it that I expected. Funny parts, a bit of violence, fighting with aliens. No intimate scenes other than the Hero and heroine. Plenty of material to have more books. Epilogue.

The idea of Vikings in space? Sold. The execution of this? Not quite there. This is my first Jamie Begley book and I wanted to love this. I didn’t but lemme splain.
It’s an interesting concept but the worldbuilding was a bit muddled. There’s some big swathes of info-dumping and I’m still not clear who’s who. The characters, other than the MCs are broadly drawn, but even with all this, I still wanted to like it. But there’s two things that really drag things down. First, the fat rep for a plus size heroine isn’t great, and I’m exhausted of almost every plus size heroine suffering from the “oh noes why would he want me” syndrome. Just no. Second, it’s always the romance that brings me in the door and this one was lukewarm. In attempting to build this “not tru-mates but still love,” it didn’t click for me because their chemistry isn’t strong and their love scene was meh. Just made me sad because the elements are there, I love the idea of them choosing each other not just being destiny but it fell short.
Not against checking out more in the series, so there’s that? 🤷🏻♀️ yeah that’s all I got.
I can now say I've read all of Jaime Begley's books. But this? Hmm... no unfortunately. I didn't like the FMC at all. The aliens were just there. Honestly the world building wasn't that great, and the details were confusing at times. I think JB was trying to be funny, but it didn't commute. I don't really recommend.
I mean, reading about Greer being able to heal people ect. Ok. But Viking aliens , tru mates, skin shredding , all that jazz ... I don't know. I never thought I would be reading something like that. It's just not my thing. HOWEVER. It is Jamie Begley who wrote ut and as I read ALL of her other books 3 times already, I had to give this a try as well. And I don't regret it. It's like going to a restaurant where your favourite chef is cooking. You find yourself eating the weirdest thing and liking it
First, I want to say Jamie Begley is a great writer and I love the Last Riders series.
But what in the world did I just read? I can’t believe Begley wrote this. Unless she wrote it when she was 16. I don’t even know what to say. I like fantasy books. I think the premise of this book and the execution of it were both terrible.
Like others out there im a big fan of JB Riders MC, I wanted to like this, I really did. I was hoping JB will blow the genre but others authors did it better and earlier (ie Grace Goodwin, S.E. Smith, Anna hackett etc...)
The story itself was interesting as all Jamie's books are. The one problem is world building that was lacking. As a first book in series I felt things should be better explained as there are still things that are unclear. As always Jamie made me interested in side characters and I hope there will be more books that follow and tell their story.
What I liked: I liked Raine(h). The way she would make up a lie to fit her needs had me lol. I also liked she negotiated at her wedding. Her wanting to stay on earth and make it livable again with his people just made me like her character more.
What I didn’t like: I was confused about the tru-mate (I hope this makes since…I’m on pain meds and I could have missed it) It was said that Skars(H) didn’t have a tru-mate. Later on in the book the h spots his tattoo is growing so was Raine really his tru-mate after all…..and if not I wished that some how she came out to be it.
Major Spoilers/ Details/Triggers: h is working when her boss calls her in to let her know that a nuclear bomb is coming and that if she wants she can hide out with him, his sister and few others in the bank vault until everything settles. Because the earth is ruined and most of people on earth died, aliens have come to see what they can get. The H is half Viking and half Martian. His people are on earth looking for the bad guy who blew up his planet killing the woman and children along with most of the men. He is also looking for women to see if any of them are tru mates to his men. While there H gets injured and the h helps him. In his world when a woman saves a male they are technically married. h leaves and tells the H she will be back to check on him. H tries to follow her but she gets away. Finally he spots her along with two other humans. Other aliens hear them and start to fight. The one woman gets kidnapped by the H’s cousin and the other goes with one of his men but they also get captured. H takes the h to his ship and at first isn’t sure about her because he thinks she is weak but afterwards he realizes that one of the chicks was telling her lies and bullying the h. He also has his guys get the other people from the vault and bring them to the ship. H introduces h to the seeress and she helps the h to understand their way of life. H takes her to her friends. H gets mad when he hears that the ow was being rude the h and doesn’t understand why she allows it. We find out later that she reminds her of her mom (who had schizophrenia). h knows that the is H is searching for anything useful but makes him promise that he won’t take woman just to make brides of them. Later, ow tells her that the H is bringing up female humans to see if they are a tru-mate to any of his men and if they aren’t he giving them to the other group of aliens. h upset that he lied to her demands to go back to earth. Obviously, he keeps and eye out for her and when she finds herself in trouble he is there to protect her (h is also pregnant). H takes her back to his ship. The seeress comes and talks to the h and explains about tru-mates. h understanding forgives the H and decides to go ahead with the marriage ceremony. h is worried that H’s tru-mate is out there but H explains that he was never to have a tru-mate that she is the one for him. HEA.
Descriptive Sex: Yes
Final thoughts: This was a good start to a new series. I definitely will read more in the series especially Piper’s book.

Completely different from the authors other series. The tone is more humorous, scientific and it’s more romantic than sex driven. Earth is ravaged. People destroyed it, as we suspected they would. Alien races begin to arrive after the destruction of earth and many further harm the planet and its inhabitants. The Vikings from Mars arrive. Game changer. They are looking for true/ mates and to save any one of Viking descent and take bring them into the clan. The story is creative. Do I wish the heroine could be taken more seriously? Yes, yes I do. However, there are other characters in the sorts to fulfill that role. **the sex was wild. I feel my comments about romance may lead some to believe this is not a sexy book- it’s a level 10.
I started reading this book because I’m a fan of Jamie Begley’s The Last Riders series and spin-offs. The book is good, there is a lot of information being dumped on you and some of the scenes seem spliced together. Sometimes I got lost but I have adhd so my thoughts aren’t linear and that helped me piece it together. I do think if this becomes a series it might get better with each book. The weird penis thing was weird but honestly I enjoyed it. I liked the female lead some reviews said that they hated her being so “weak” but there are some women out here that are truly damaged and act like that so that was believable. I hope to see more of the other characters.
I so enjoyed this trip to the stars. In the midst of mankind trying to kill each other with nuclear weapons, a romance begins. Human girl fighting to find food and medicine finds a Viking-Martian injured. She helps him and in his world, they are married. The world building, getting to know the Viking characters and all their background history is intriguing and sad. This has the makings of a great series. So many of the characters to deep dive explore with books of their own. Exciting. So looking forward to more. HEA, no cheating, no cliffhanger…but we know we need more of these characters as they build a future.
I went into this expecting not to like it because I am not a big sci-fi fan. I seriously enjoyed this and I have to admit that when they were doing the tru-mate ceremony I got a bit teary eyed. There were parts that I found a bit boring but that was the descripted part of the alien world. Which was out there and since I can't relate to it I didn't get it. I was a bit disappointed at the ending. I felt like we didn't get the ending it deserved. It just cut off and done. Is this book going to be a series so we get answers to some question that were left hanging? Also I seriously was disappointed that Milly didn't get what was coming to her.
It had everything to a good story. So over all it was good, but I am not going to lie the self esteem of the FML frustrated me to no end. Like curvy girls are beautiful, they can be with what society deems a "attractive man." Girl stand up for urself I understand that she was supposed to be this "nice and innocent FML" but common! That milly girl need a lesson so I'm frustrated the FML never really got the chance to stick up to her. Over all I hope the next FML's are more confident with themselves especially if they are curvy women.
These characters and storyline were very enjoyable to read about. It has been a long time since I’ve read a fantasy/science fiction with erotica storylines so it was fun to do so again! Jamie has woven the start of an alien series which I’ll look forward to reading. The premise of it is that Earth as we know it has been annihilated and the Martian/Vikings are to repopulate it. The description of the male reproductive organ is fascinating and would be every woman’s dream!
All in all, I really enjoyed this very different Amie Begley book!
I really wanted to like this book because I lime this authors other books but this book is just confusing. With all the diets terms and words I just couldn't get into this book. It could of been better if it focused more on the relationship between Raine and Skars. All the physical fighting went on to long. I just wished this book was better. I really wanted to lime it. I don't see me reading anymore in this series if there is more to come.
Ok so I know that I am a total fan girl when it comes to all of Jamie’s books but guyyyyysssssss this one is absolutely amazing!!!!! I am obsessed with the plot, which is just the perfect amount of back story to the romance piece to make this pure gold, and loved every minute!!! PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE write us more!!!!! I can’t wait to see whose story is next!
I didn't know if I would like a alien of another planet romance but this one was was great, it not because Jamie Begley wrote either but I do love her writing. The heroine was name Raine and she was so sweet but strong where it counts too. Skars the Viking Martian was just to hot to touch, they met by her saving him so she thought , so she was his in his mind. I don't want to tell everything because I want you to read it but it sad about the earth and and about the Vikings planet as well , the character in book like Skars brother Thorden the chieftain is interesting and King Murder is other character I would like to see a book on, as well as Reva the Seeress, I will tell you the sex scenes is hot and there is some funny moments just love it, there is more characters in this book that scary too! Thanks jamie love it❤
I love all of Jamie Begley's books, this one didn't disappoint, it captivated me from the beginning and Vikings from mars very nice, but and there is a but I found the female character Raine, I wasn't really feeling it from her character I don't know if it's the way she same a cross but I didn't really click with her.
I loved this book! Sci-fi is one of my favorites and I’m so glad Jamie decided to try it! I really enjoyed the book and can’t wait for more hopefully in a series!! Only thing I wish the story was a little longer. I felt like it was just getting started and the ending was a little short.
Humans destroy themselves with nuclear weapons and then the survivors are invaded by aliens. Raine is lucky to by saved by hiding in the vault at the bank where she worked but she isn't sure how lucky she is when she finds herself married to an alien Viking whose life she saved. Skars won't let Rains get away, he is keeping his wife in this entertaining read.
This was an interesting read and a new genre for Jamie Begley. The only reason this isn’t 5 stars is due to a few grammatical mistakes and because it seemed rushed in a few places and left a lot of unanswered questions. I enjoyed Skars and Raina and I hope there are more stories to come from this series.
I’m a huge fan of Jamie Begley’s MC series, the Last Riders. When I read she was releasing a sci-fi book, I knew I was going to have to give it a go. Unfortunately this one was a miss for me. It started off well enough but then just fell flat. I’ll stick to Ms Begleys MC series.
If I had not seen Jamie Begley name on this book would never have believed she wrote it. I have read all her other books and the writing in this book does not compare.
What a dramatically different story from her normal MC books!!! She ducking nailed it on this one! I can see the series and its many adventures to be written. Jaime made the most awesome adventure of all!!! Supremely amazing!!!
We are not alone and the Earth has destroyed itself. And Aliens are here in all shapes and kind. But when a human saves one all bets are off. Interesting first book and looking forward to next book.
This is the first time that Jamie has written this genre and she hit it out of the park. The characters were engaging, intelligent, sexy I filled with spirit just like her last riders characters. I was hooked from the first sentence. Can't wait to read more.
