Violet was engaged once to a man who left her at the altar. She has no time for love, nor does she trust it. But as she gets to know Jake, she finds her thoughts on the matter starting to thaw.

Lord Jake Rosemont is the middle child of our Ducal family who spends his time doing nothing much but playing the odds gambling with cards around London. Duke Dad wasn't very nice to him and expected him to basically do nothing, so that's what he's been up to. A friend of his begs him to go to a house party being held by the young lady he is into so that he can use his charms on her stodgy sister/chaperone to get her away from her charge for a bit.

The chaperone is the Sensible Lady Violet, who Has Been Burned By A Rake Before, and is firmly not getting married at age 26. She appears to take care of everything around the house as her sister doesn't think ahead and her dad only cares about whatever it is he's studying. She is absolutely not going to be charmed by Jake, who she perceives to be a person similar to the man who jilted her.

Over the course of the weekend and a few meetings beyond the two come to care for each other but must work through an assortment of issues. A very nice little focused story with a very heavy emphasis on our two leads, especially their times together, and bits of backstory and reasons for being nervous to forge ahead.
