This is a cute little tale about two monkeys named George and Jess. George lived on Banana Island and Jess lived on Coconut island. All they wanted to do was get together and make coconut cake and banana milkshakes, but they have one dilemma: sharks. Their islands are so close to hear each other shout, but too far to swim. They try digging under ground tunnels, scaring away the sharks, and even running across the water but as soon as they’re about to give up they find a way to finally meet! This was a delightful read and I enjoyed the sharks song, “yummy, yummy! Food for my tummy!” I also really loved the colors that were in the illustrations. There were so many hues of blue that it really did seem like I was in the ocean along with those silly monkeys!

This is a light-hearted and silly book about problem-solving. Two chimpanzees on separate islands want to get together to share their bananas and coconuts, but there are hungry sharks looming below. What will they do?! My three-year-old loves to think of her own ideas of how they can get together as we read along.

O original é da Little Tiger Press e, passando a publicidade, tem sempre publicações muito boas para os miúdos.
Divertida, enérgica, bem ilustrada, os miúdos gostam.

I came across this book in summer camp reading it to 4 year olds. They loved it and it is great to do funny voices as you read. However, I also teach Psychology in high school and realized that the book if chock full of Freudian references. I use it in my class and read it to my 11th and 12th graders. The male chimp lives on "banana island" and the female chimp on "coconut island" (unconscious references to the male and female body parts). The sharks are the superego trying to prevent the chimps from getting together for "banana milkshakes and coconut cake." The chimps come together when their tree tops becomes intertwined (like two bodies having sex) and then they can have their fun. I don't mean to ruin a good children's story, it still is, but the Freudian references are pretty obvious.

My daughter's choice on a library trip.
This story is quite simple and clever all at once. It tells of two chimps living on small islands within sight of each other in the deep blue sea. One island has a banana tree and one a coconut tree.
The chimps want to meet and share yummy food but between their islands are lots of sharks.
The chimps explore various options for transport between their islands coming up with some clever ideas and some funny ideas. In the end they get their wish in a clever ending!

A fun and exciting book with nice illustrations, clear exploration of methods and a nice story.

So cute! My favorite part is when the sharks say "Yummy Yummy Food for my Tummy". Two monkey's live on opposite islands and want to get together for coconut cake and banana milkshakes. They try and try but there are sharks in the water, eventually they happen upon a way to have their party. I was a little alarmed by the role of the sharks at first, but they aren't too frightening in the end. The illustrations aren't my favorite they're a little old school cartoonish.

Can Jess and George figure out a way to get together? They are two monkeys that are on separate islands. The only problem is that there are tons of hungry sharks between them. They try everything they can think of to get on the same island and have banana shakes together. It is a silly story about problem solving.

This is Taison's favorite book that his Nana reads to him. In fact, Nana bought it for his birthday. He just loves it. I know I should probably put books on here that I love, but thought we could add books for kids as well.

George the monkey and Jess the monkey live on separate islands where they can see each other. They both would love to somehow get together to visit, but the water between them is infested with hungry sharks.

My nephews loved it, they thought it was funny with the dancing and numerous attempts at outwitting the sharks. And they were happy with the happy ending.

It was an easy read with one of those repetitive catch phrases that stick in your head and make a book really memorable.

3.5 stars. I only read it for one group. They enjoyed it, but I don't think every group would. May be better if shortened a bit.
