Murder in the Mix #14

Killer Halloween Cupcakes

Rate this book
My name is Lottie Lemon, and I see dead people. Okay, so I rarely see dead people, mostly I see furry creatures of the dearly departed variety, who have come back from the other side to warn me of their previous owner’s impending doom.
It’s October and the entire town has come out to celebrate the Haunted Honey Hollow Festival. In between doling out cupcakes and partaking in the festivities myself, I happen to stumble upon a body—not just any body—one that has far too many skeletons in the closet for me to ever sift through. Add to it my already complicated love life, the ghost of a black cat named Thirteen, a surprise that I never see coming and you’ll have the most frightening Halloween Honey Hollow has ever seen.

Lottie Lemon has a brand new bakery to tend to, a budding romance with perhaps one too many suitors, and she has the supernatural ability to see the dead—which are always harbingers for ominous things to come. Throw in the occasional ghost of the human variety, a string of murders, and her insatiable thirst for justice, and you’ll have more chaos than you know what to do with. Living in the small town of Honey Hollow can be murder.

Lottie finds another dead body! This was a fun story although I was getting a bit annoyed with the love triangle. I wasn’t expecting the ending at all though! Makes me want to read the next in the series for sure!

This is the 14th book in the series, and I suggest you read from the beginning. I did not and wish I had. This book had me going back and forth as to whether or not I liked it. I had issues with Lottie having both a husband and a fiancé. The fact that she deeply loved both was evident. Now, here’s why I say you should start from the beginning. It’s not like she’s cheating. There are things going on that I won’t divulge because I’m not going to spoil the plot.
Lottie’s newest murder investigation involves the pastor who married her, who also happens to be her mother’s boyfriend. Right now, her mom’s the main suspect and Lottie is pretty sure her mom didn’t do it (read it to find out why she’s only pretty sure). At the same time, she’s dealing with her feelings for both men, and also dealing with the crazy that is Cormack.
This story is set during the month of October, so you also have parties and events going on that Lottie needs to cater to (she’s a baker). Her life’s a roller coaster and you’re pulled along for a pretty wild ride, especially when you add in all the ghosts that come into play.
The plot twist in the end had me tear up, it was so unexpected!!
I enjoyed the story and will now have to start at the beginning so that I can be brought up to speed with everything.

Gosh I love Lottie and her world! This story was another wonderful read. This series is such a joy to read as it is so light hearted and fun all while I am trying to help Lottie solve a murder. I cannot get enough. This go round Lottie and her town are in the holiday spirit when the Haunted Honey Hollow Festival gets into full swing and a murder come to her attention. It’s Lottie’s job as the resident baker to help spread the joy with her cupcakes… her killer cupcakes! The mystery, the solving of the murder and the plot were all wonderful and I am a total and complete sucker for anything Halloween themed. This story is nothing but fun and enjoyable. There are some surprise emotions involved and that ending…??!! I loved every page! I will be adding this story to me yearly Halloween collection so that I can remember to re-read it for my holiday season! I received an ARC and am leaving an honest review.

Addison has hit it out of the park yet again!! I always feel like there's no way to top the last one, and she ALWAYS manages to surprise me! Lottie Lemon and her ghostly (and not so ghostly) pals always find a way to surprise me!!

Murder is back in Honey Hallow and Lottie is back at the front of the investigation!!
A dead holy man with a shady past and a deathly departed cat isn't quite what it seems this go around! So few suspects, and so many motives!! And an ending that will leave you in tears. You do NOT want to pass this book up!!

Say what?!?

I love this series, in fact, I’m always desperately waiting for the next book. This one though, while still funny, was deep. There was a lot that was dug through and man, what an emotional roller coaster!

Wonderful! Until…

In general, I LOVE Addison Moore’s Murder in the Mix books. I was loving Killer Halloween Cupcakes as well, until the last few pages, on which occurred a twist I never saw coming and still can’t believe!
Lottie Lemon married her longtime love, homicide detective Noah Fox, in a quick ceremony in the pastor’s office. His divorce is final, he’s free, and she has Judge Everett Baxter’s blessing to explore her feelings for Noah, since they never had closure—she dropped him as soon as his wife showed up at the bakery!
The big problem: delusional Cormack Featherby, who’s convinced she and Noah are destined for each other. She finds the ring Noah bought for Lottie, puts it on, and tells everyone they’re engaged even though he didn’t ask her! She thinks the marriage is a phase, and when he tells her they have no future, she believes she made him jealous and has won an imaginary contest with Lottie, his legal wife. She even tells Lottie and Everett, who’s told his family they’re engaged to get them off his back, that they have to wait till July because she and Noah will get married in June. She’s clearly not living in reality. Poor Noah.
Lottie’s adoptive mom is thriving on her Haunted B&B tours with The Last Thing They Ate, which stops at Lottie’s bakery and gives the tour’s guests a ghoulish look at whatever sweet treat the deceased was eating or holding at death. From apple tarts to red velvet cupcakes, Lottie sells out of the murderous accessory every month. She hates it, but it’s October in Vermont, and Honey Hollow puts on its scary best, so she shrugs and makes Halloween themed cupcakes—which her ex-wrestler sister Meg destroys by inciting a food fight on Main Street.
Noah (wearing Cormack like a rash he can’t shake) and Everett (wearing a perpetual scowl) visit Lottie’s bakery, as does her mother with latest bad boyfriend, Pastor Gaines. Lottie doesn’t trust him but can’t figure out why—until she finds his body in the alley behind the bakery. His black cat, Thirteen, has shown up to predict an upcoming death. Lottie can see animal ghosts, plus a few humans; only her grandmother Nell and birth mom Carlotta can see them too, but recently they’ve started talking and, if she touches another person, they can hear what the ghost says. Lottie has been questioning lots of suspects with little success, given the motives of numerous women who look like her mother, run inns like her mother, and are too ashamed to press charges against the con man pretending to be a pastor. Her mom might be the latest—if the fake pastor hadn’t died already.
At the same time, a series of thefts rocks Honey Hollow; Lottie and Everett witness a bank robbery from inside the bank, and Lottie sees a tattoo on the gang member who swipes the “engagement ring” (really Everett’s grandmother’s), and the entire slew of ghosts shows up to help Lottie escape the clutches of the gang before they escape to Canada! They can’t help too much, because if they overstep their limits they fade away. The macaw and 200-year-old farmer have already returned to paradise, and Nell is fading, when Noah yells “Freeze!” and the whole Halloween party at the Evergreen Inn stops. Cormack and Brit (Noah’s now ex-wife), Keelie (Lottie’s BFF) and her twin Naomi (Lottie’s sworn enemy), her adoptive mom and birth mom, all demand to know what’s going on. Lottie tries to find Noah and enlists Everett’s help, but her sister Lainey’s fireman husband says they need to follow him.
That’s when the twist comes…and it’s so sad I had to downgrade the book’s rating to 4 stars. I can’t fault Addison Moore, and in a way I’m relieved that Lottie’s dilemma is solved, but it’s not the solution I’d have chosen. I still love the series, though. Wipe your eyes and read! Still recommend it.

I just have no words to even describe how I’m feeling when it comes to this book, I thought that the ending for the last book was a shock, but this one just completely blew me away. Never in my life when I’ve gotten to the end of a book have I wanted to just full on throw all the devices around me and go mad at the author, but Addison Moore managed to get such a reaction out of me for how she wrote this book. She’s done such an incredible job with it and she really should be quite proud of herself. I have no idea where Addison is taking this series, but all I can say is that I’ll be on board for the ride the entire way through until the very end. I couldn’t fault the writing, the plot or anything, I just loved every minute of it. Seriously, Addison knows how to throw some amazing curveballs out there and I can’t but eat them up each and every time. I’m excited to see where she will take this series next, and after the way she just ended this book, I know that we are in for much more of a wild ride. If you’ve not checked out this series yet, then you should consider doing so, you won’t be sorry as Addison Moore’s work is incredible.

Lottie is in a dilemma, she has just found out that she’s married legally to Noah and she’s still with Essex. You can’t blame her for not having a clue what to do, in a way she’s been given everything that she’s ever wanted but then at the same time her heart is torn because she wants to be with Essex too. Putting all that aside, both Noah and Essex want what’s best for her, even though they are still trying their hardest to win her heart. But she also has to deal with Cormack, she’s still determined that her and Noah are made for each other, but now that it’s come out that Lottie and Noah are married, she’s ready and willing to go after Lottie and do what it takes to take her down. But Lottie isn’t having any of that, although Cormack is the least of her worries considering it looks set that her mother may be arrested for Murder, but Lottie is determined to make sure her mom’s name is cleared because there’s no way her mother could be capable of something as sweet as that. Will Lottie be able to figure what’s gone on and clear her mom’s name?

Lottie and the gang are back and this time it’s Halloween in their haunted town with cupcakes to hopefully eat. Killer Cupcakes is all suspense and love triangle that will either give you a sweet tooth or kill you from the sugar high. Lottie is at a gain with her inability to make up her mind about which suitor she will pick even though she is married to Noah. Killer Cupcakes puts Lottie in the line of fire because she discovers another murder. She just happens to always stumble on these and her desserts are always at the scene of the crime. Then she puts on her sleuthing hat along with Everett and Noah and they embark on another investigation into lives of the citizens in Honey Hollow. While they investigate their loves, lives are anything but ordinary they are extraordinary and funny to read about. Then there are people in the background trying to destroy it and destroy Lottie in the process. Lottie and the gang must solve the murder before one of them gets hurts in the process. Can they do what they are supposed to do and can Lottie finally choose a suitor?
This is a suspenseful, quirky, romance meant for those who love a murder mystery that is both funny and romantic. I still can wrap my head around Lottie and her band or crazy but she has grown a little on me since the last book. She and the citizens of Honey Hollow tend to be over dramatic and that just took away from the story for me. I like drama but I just do like when it overtakes the story then you miss out on great action and wonderful scenes. Everett and Noah what can I say about them is that they are night and day. They love the same woman and I will never understand why they always end up liking the same women. It is funny to see their dynamic and how Lottie is with both of them. This a light read and you can finish within one sitting without putting it down because you will be waiting to see what they all do next. Come and join the people of Honey Hollow and help them solve this new mystery they stumbled upon.

Killer Cupcakes (Murder in the Mix #14) — Addison Moore (22 chapters) October 27-31, 2021

I read this book as a part of Cozy Halloween that has been sitting on my To-Read list for a year or more and I had a due date of Oct. 31, 2021. At this point in time in the series and I can pretty much write this series’ individual books with my eyes closed. There is not much movement/growth with Lottie; that all happens with the individual who passes. The plots are fun, by the main plot is the same old same old.

This is the last book I may read of this series, even though the author spits this series out every couple of months and she currently is on #40-something. Since she started writing this series +/- 2018, that is a lot of writing and reading! Fortunately, the books are relatively short. However, since I am exhausted with the fence-sitting on boyfriends, I can’t bear it anymore. I need a resolution on this.

Fortunately, the end of the book gives me an opening that allows me to take it and run.

Before that though, Lottie is making cupcakes as a do-over for boyfriend #1, Noah’s birthday [is that right?—see, I’ve read so many in a row here that I am getting confused!]

And of course, a death occurs, with a cupcake in hand and in the alley behind Lottie’s bakery and of course, Lottie finds the corpse. And Lottie’s mom is charged with murder.

It seems like you can tell in the previous book which one is going to bite it in the next book. This victim took longer but still appears.

The former ghosts are back; there is still trouble brewing.

Again, I love the mystery; not the boy toy issues.

Two stars.

I don't know that there is much more I can say about this book then WOW. Addison has an amazing imagination and this book I think is the best in the series so far. The ending was just mind-blowing. I never saw it coming. I really can not wait for the next book to be out so I can find out what happens next. As this series has progressed Lottie and the gang has really become like part of the family so waiting to find out what happens next is just excruciating for me..LOL

Lottie is supplying cupcakes for the start of the Halloween season in Honey Hollow. While a cupcake fight ensues out in front of her bakery someone murders the Pastor that her mother is dating out behind the bakery. Lottie's mother is the prime suspect in the death so while she is trying to keep up with all the cupcake orders and all that is involved with Halloween in Honey Hollow along with trying to deal with being married to Detective Noha Fox and still having part of her heart belong to Judge Sexy Baxter, and dealing with Cormack and her attention to the Detective. Things kind of get a little crazy. In the end, things happen that I was not prepared for in this book.

This book can be read as a stand alone but I really do suggest that you start from book one and read them all. I know that once this series is finished I plan on binge reading them all.

Killer Cupcakes is the 14th book in the Murder in the Mix series from Addison Moore who never fails to deliver crazy antics, a romantic roller coaster ride and a suspenseful mystery. It's Halloween in Honey Hollow and poor Lottie Lemon once again stumbles across a dead body. With the help of a spectral feline and her real-life best friends, Lottie dodges mischief as usual while on the hunt for a murderer. While attempting to figure out whodunnit she realizes maybe this is one murder she wouldn't mind going unsolved, but must be reminded that those aren't the rules when it comes to her supersensual abilities. On top of everything, she discovered she's legally married to her sexy ex boyfriend Noah, while still being romantically involved with Everett. Everett has given Lottie permission to find the closure she and Noah were previously denied, which means she must embrace her newfound wifely duties with Noah. You won't want to miss this newest installment in this fantastically sarcastic and fun-filled series from the delightfully talented Addison Moore. Put it on your TBR and pick it up ASAP.

Another wonderful edition to the Murder in the Mix series, however each book can be read as a stand-alone. The talented Addison Moore has added another suspenseful book to the series. I’ve got to say this is my favorite by far! Be prepared because Honey Hollow is about to get spooky.

This story follows small-town baker and supernaturally-gifted detective Lottie Lemon. As usual, things in Honey Hollow are getting bloody. The main suspect? Look no further than Miranda Lemon, Lottie’s mother. The whole town knows it’s not her, so it’s up for Lottie Lemon and her sidekicks Detective Noah Fox and Judge Everett Baxter to help bring justice.

This adventure has the trio running around surrounding towns hunting down the killer of the man of many secrets. This is a wild one. You won’t even believe it. You won’t see it coming. But the ending is Killer! Twists and turns and heartbreak awaits you in this cozy mystery. You’ll love it! It’s a sweet treat to the series. I cannot wait for Pumpkin Pie Parting next up.

Every time! Addison Moore is my hero. I really don't know how she whips up these books in no time flat! Each and every time, I am completely sucked in and fall in love with the characters.
The Murder in the Mix series has become a favorite of mine! I absolutely love Lottie, Essex, and Noah. Of course another murder happens and Lottie is right in the middle of it. Lottie and Essex are quite the team but I love how Noah never gives up and keeps fighting for Lottie. He fights for her heart and to keep her out of jail!
I am still hoping and holding out for Lottie to be with both Essex and Noah! Sorry ... Not Sorry, but I cant decide between the two and Lottie loves them both. I am really interested to find out what happens when Noah's divorce is actually finalized. Things are going to go down! In the mean time, I am here along for this roller coaster of a ride.

I read this as part of the Cozy Halloween Boxed Set.

The number of cupcakes and other sweets she makes (almost entirely by herself-staff is there to wait on customers and ring up sales) is phenomenal, can’t image one person, no matter how dedicated and organized she is, can make that many. Gives away a lot in this episode, too. And really, I guess there are a lot of immature people out there, but to start a food fight with food that you have no intention of paying for. I’d have put a stop to that real fast. The ending was a surprise to me but didn’t make me care enough to go buy the next installment to see what happens. Like I said before, a good enough read to pass the time, but nothing I’d go out of my way for.

Well, let's see if Lottie can find another body in the October season with the entire town coming out to celebrate the Haunted Honey Hollow Festival. Of course, Lottie happens to stumble upon a body—not just any body. Add to it my already complicated love life, the ghost of a black cat named Thirteen, a surprise that I never see coming. Well Lottie and Noah are now married and Carmack cannot handle it nor can Everett. Now mom is involved in the murder what will happen? If Lottie doesn't get rid of Cormack and her crazy ways what will happen to her and Noah? I don't like the ending but hope it gets better in the next book.
Listen or read to find out. There is something always happening in Honey Hollow.
Love the Author, she just keeps on coming up with more for the crew of Honey Hollow.

Miss Moore continues to bring to life amazing stories with phenomenal characters in them. This one is no different. When I first started reading this series it was only supposed to be 6 books I think, but the author chose to continue the series further, and I for one am so glad she did. I can't get enough of Lottie Lemon and the rest of the Honey Hollow gang. With the pets visiting from beyond the grave, the continuous suspense and mystery around every corner, the bit of romance, the nice-to-look-at men and the quick wit of the characters this series has everything you could want in a good read. I can't wait for what comes next. Well done to the author.

Our favorite baker is at it again! She stumbles across another body by accident. Only this time the murderer may be a little too close to home!

Now that her and Noah are officially wedded, she gets advice from several folks, including one very hot judge, to use this opportunity to get to the bottom of her feelings for Noah. To try the marriage on for size and see it it’s really what she wants and with Noah. All the Cormack Featherby is determined that Noah is her man.

This investigation takes a shocking turn. And the ending.... let’s just say you won’t see it coming!

Fantastic read, well written with a great plot and characters. I was absorbed from beginning to end. This book has everything you could want mystery, suspense, humor, romance and murder. I love visiting Honey Hallow, this is one of my favorite series. Local baker Lottie Lemon has her hands full. She's baking, enjoying the festivities, finding a dead body....and finding a killer with the help of Noah, Everett and a black cat from beyond the grave. I can't wait to read the next book in this series! I voluntarily read and reviewed an Advanced Reader Copy of this book from Booksprout.

I just FYI this one. Did not see the ending coming. This one was as enjoyable as all the others. Although this is a series Addison Moore makes sure you know what has already happened in the others before. You know how all the characters are connected to each other. Each book is stand alone I am glad I started from book one. I could easily see this being a Hallmark Movies and Mystery series.
It would not be the first one featuring a lady baker who solves murders. This one has a lady with an interesting and complicated life.

Halloween can be a sad time in Honey Hollow for many...

Not just a revisit of spooky days gone by, but sometimes bringing back things from the past brings back actual real life troubles in the now.
Those troubles we sometimes unearth with our incessant digging and prodding have all too real consequences in thos life... and the next for some unlucky souls and the ones who love them most. No spoilers here! You will have to read for yourself to see who comes out the big Halloween Losers! Enjoy!

Another great book by Addison Moore. I couldn't put it down.. Until the SHOCKING ending! This series just gets better and better. It can be read as a stand alone but I recommend starting at book 1. These characters are just to delicious to miss a bit of them. Lottie Lemon is just as sweet as her baked goods. She is the best detective around, solving one murder after another with the help of her ghostly friends. She even has 2 sexy men fighting for her heart. Whats not to love?!

Lottie finds a dead body and, this time, it is a cat named Thirteen who has been sent to help her solve it. As usual, Everett and Noah are there by her side, each hoping for her to gain some decision as to who she really will choose in the end. Her mother is beyond the pale with her new shenanigans. As usual, her cupcakes play a prominent theme in the book. The ending left me gasping and now, impatiently, waiting for more. As always, a good solid read for me.

What?!

I can't even. I've endured idiotic females, a triangle that's WAY past its expiration date, and ridiculous word usage (and overuse) for THIS ending? And I still feel strangely compelled to continue this ride... This author may have mad skills; I want to give two stars for being tricked into wasting my time but five stars for being so skillfully lured to find out what's next!

I’m still having all kinds of fun with this series, but that ending calls into question everything I thought I knew about it. Especially since I’ve read things that take place further into the future. This was another story where the mystery successfully kept me guessing almost all the way to the big reveal. The family, friends, and phantasms kept me laughing, and now I’m desperate to find out the rest of the story about that ending.

plot change

As much as I was so over the threesome this is not how I had hoped or envisioned the story going. I wasn’t surprised by the twin theme it’s been overdone. I kneel Cormack wasn’t guilty of the things Lottie accused her of but I was surprised by the actual culprit. I am distressed that after everything she’s done Cormack survived. Noah should never have been in that situation he would have been safe if not for her!

Holy catballs Batman!!!

This is truly a horror filled story. The murderer is not at all who you think even though there are plenty of other suspects to choose from like always. The spooks, old and new, are as always well done and full of entertainment and sorrow (what? They are dead still.). This book will have you guessing until the very end!!! Well done Addison, very well done!
